Unlike many RPGs, Tales of Symphonia utilizes a high-speed Battle system that is akin to many fighting games, and like a fighting game, each character is different. While most players tend to play as Lloyd, there are other options for the character that the player controls in battle. This guide exists to teach a few things about one of the other characters, namely, the game's female lead, Colette. Version History: ---------------- Ver. 1.0: Guide Created ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ######################################### #Section 1: Character Info [ChaInf]# ######################################### About Colette: -------------- Gender: Female Age: 16 Height: 5' 2" Weight: 97 lbs. Class: Chosen Race: Human Hair: Platinum Blond / Long hair Build: Slender Weapon: Chakram Occupation: Student / Chosen The game's heroine and Lloyd's childhood friend. Though normally a bit clumsy and seemingly care-free, she has a strong will and sense of responsibility hidden underneath her soft appearance -- she bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. She is not the type who looks to others for protection. If anything, she is bold and daring in times of need, always willing to sacrifice herself to help her friends. (Source: Namco) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Colette is an intersting character. She posesses the games strongest melee techs, but is rather slow, and doesn't have much durability. She can use her angelic magic, but is much better at fighting at a medium- close range. She can learn the game's strongest level 2 tech, an has an aresenal of other powerful attacks, making her the source of the game's highest damage output. She also can steal from enemies, and is the only character in the game that can poison enemies. Don't let her mediocre stats and cute outward appearance fool you, she's a very powerful character, and with a little skill, can be an incredible force that almost makes the game too easy. She initially joins at level 1, but if she's weaker than level 6, when she rejoins in the Sylvarant Base, she will be level 6. Also: She is limited in her actions until you've broken the Fire Seal by defeating the Boss, Ktugach. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Her basic attacks are somewhat slow, and she only has two hits in her basic combo. Most of her attacks are somewhat ranged, so if you're starting to play as her, you will need to get used to that range, so I'd recommend playing on Semi-Auto at first to get used to this. Afterward, feel free to switch to manual. Her Basic Attacks ("A" moves): A: She makes a swipe with one of her Chakrams. >A: She spins and attacks with one of her Chakrams. ^A: She jumps upward and attacks vA: She spins, attacking enemies at her side, and then throws her weapon, this attack can be used at a long range. Like the other characters, her basic combo is just a combination of the basic attacks, do note that vA has trouble linking with other attacks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Overlimit Information: Tension: 91 Favorite Food: Fruits of All types Least Favorite Food: Bell Peppers ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pros: + Very High Damage output + Powerful, Low-hit count, Combos + Poison Attack + Strong Techs + Can Steal from foes + Magic + Hi-Ougi + Good range Cons: - Low durability - Slow - Reliant on Techs - Can be tricky to play as - Not always availble - High Tension Rate ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ########################################## #Section 2: Colette's Techs [ColTec]# ########################################## Special Usage Techs Cannot Be Learned! They are used when the appropriate conditions are met. Event-learned Techs are obtained through the story. Techs with a /!\ Next to them cannot be used or learned until Colette has gotten her wings. Level 1 Special Attacks: ------------------------ Ray Thrust ********* Learned: When she Joins Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 5 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 1.3 In-Game Description: Throw a powerful chakram at the enemy. This attack has Colette throw her Chakram across the battlefield, damaging any enemies in its path. This has great range, but not much power. ********* Pow Hammer ********* Learned: Level 8 Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 8 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 1.6 In-Game Description: Throw a hammer at the enemy. The Tales-series staple female-lead attack. Colette will throw a toy hammer into the air, and it falls and strikes the enemy, doing damage. It's a medium range attack that can be tricky to aim at first. ********* Toss Hammer ********* Learned: Never--Special Usage Usage Requirements: Pow Hammer: 200 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 8 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 1.6 (May Poison Foe) In-Game Description: --- Special Usage: With Pow Hammer's usage over 200, this attack might replace it. Also, Pow Hammer's T-side upgrades may include Toss Hammers. A very powerful move, although it can't always be used, due to random activation. It's ability to infilct Deadly Poison on an enemy makes it one of the game's best moves, capable of taking down the game's hardest boss's HP down to 1 with one hit. It's a green Pow Hammer. ********* Ice Hammer ********* Learned: Never--Special Usage Usage Requirements: Pow Hammer: 200 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 8 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 1.6 [Ice] In-Game Description: --- Special Usage: With Pow Hammer's usage over 200, equipping Colette with an Ice Attack Attribute (A/A), using Pow Hammer will result in this attack. This attack is an Ice-Elemental version of the Pow Hammer tech. Nothing special about it. It's just a blue Pow Hammer. Level 2 Special Attacks: ------------------------ Dual Ray Thrust ********* Learned: Level 15 Usage Requirements: Ray Thrust: 50 T or S: T TP Cost: 10 Hits: 2 Damage Multiplier: 2.1 In-Game Description: Throw two powerful chakrams at the enemy. This attack is Ray Thrust done twice in rapid succession. Ray Satellite is better. ********* Ray Satellite /!\ ********* Learned: Level 15 Usage Requirements: Ray Thrust: 50 T or S: S TP Cost: 14 Hits: 5 Damage Multiplier: 2.3 In-Game Description: Hold a chakram in orbit. This attack has Colette turn one of her Chakrams into a buzz-saw and she holds it in front of her, attacking enemies. ********* Pow Pow Hammer ********* Learned: Level 18 Usage Requirements: Pow Hammer: 50 T or S: T TP Cost: 15 Hits: 4 Damage Multiplier: 2.4 In-Game Description: Throw multiple hammers at the enemy. If you have this attack, you're doing it wrong. This attack's S-side variant is so much better. You should only have this attack if you're performing the Tech Glitch, or if you've hacked the game with an Action Replay. ********* Para Ball /!\ ********* Learned: Level 18 Usage Requirements: Pow Hammer: 50 T or S: S TP Cost: 14 Hits: 4 Damage Multiplier: 4.6 (1.6 of which is [Lightning]) In-Game Description: Lightning strikes when it makes contact with the enemy. This is Colette's most useful attack, bar none. When used, Colette throws 2 red balls at the target, that should they hit, and the enemy is not guarding, a bolt of lightning will strike the foe. It deals incredible damage for a surprisingly low TP cost. This attack will form the crux of most of her combos, and should see heavy use. Do note that should an enemy guard this tech, it's damage is severely reduced: because the Lightning strikes don't happen, if an enemy guards it. ********* Ring Whirlwind /!\ ********* Learned: Level 12 Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 11 Hits: 3 Damage Multiplier: 2.1 In-Game Description: Spinning attack using chakrams in each hand. Colette spins in place, attacking anything around her for a nice amount of damage. It lacks in range, but is useful, none the less. Is a great attack to use if you're surrounded. ********* Item Thief ********* Learned: Level 10 Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 10 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 2.0 In-Game Description: A chance of stealing an item from the target. One of Colette's 2 stealing techs. Colette trips, and if she hits an enemy, she damages them. If the enemy wasn't guarding, and if it damaged the enemy, she may say "I got something!", letting you know that she stole an item from the enemy. Try not to use this attack: It's a combo-killer. ********* Level 3 Special Attacks: ------------------------ Triple Ray Thrust ********* Learned: Level 36 Usage Requirements: Dual Ray Thrust: 50 T or S: T TP Cost: 22 Hits: 3 Damage Multiplier: 3.6 In-Game Description: Throw multiple chakrams at the enemy. This attack fires 3 Ray Thrusts off in an arc. It's not very useful, and it doesn't do much damage unless it's at a very close range. Outclassed by its Strike Variant. ********* Triple Ray Satellite /!\ ********* Learned: Level 36 Usage Requirements: Ray Satellite: 50 T or S: S TP Cost: 26 Hits: 15 Damage Multiplier: 7.5 In-Game Description: Hold multiple chakrams in orbit. This attack sets 3 Ray Satellites in front of Colette. It absolutely devastates large enemies like the Dragon or the Final Boss's second form. It is a good combo finisher and is quite the powerhouse. ********* Hammer Rain ********* Learned: Level 44 Usage Requirements: Pow Pow Hammer: 50 T or S: T TP Cost: 30 Hits: 11 Damage Multiplier: 10.0 In-Game Description: Hammers fall from the sky like rain. Do yourself a favor and use the Tech Glitch, and get this attack. It's quite a powerful attack, and like TRS, it devastates large enemies. It suffers from a bit of a delay, and isn't likely land every hit. But its hammers can become Toss Hammers, making it all the deadlier. It's also used for one of the two "Cosmic" Unison Attacks, Stardust Rain. ********* Torrential Para Ball /!\ ********* Learned: Level 44 Usage Requirements: Para Ball: 50 T or S: S TP Cost: 30 Hits: 8 Damage Multiplier: 3.6 (1.6 of which is [Lightning]) In-Game Description: Multiple para balls strike the enemy with lightning. This attack is a complete joke. It's actually weaker than it's previous version, and is quite pathetic. A waste of TP that should never be used. Use the Tech Glitch and get Hammer Rain instead of the failure of an attack. ********* Ring Cyclone /!\ ********* Learned: Level 40 Usage Requirements: Ring Whirlwind: 50 T or S: T TP Cost: 22 Hits: 5 Damage Multiplier: 2.8 In-Game Description: Multiple spinning attack using chakrams in each hand. An extended version of Ring Whirlwind. Not quite as useful, and is overshadowed by its Strike variant. ********* Whirlwind Rush /!\ ********* Learned: Level 40 Usage Requirements: Ring Whirlwind: 50 T or S: S TP Cost: 22 Hits: 6 Damage Multiplier: 3.6 In-Game Description: Repeatedly attack the enemy in front and then spin attack. This attack looks like a 3-hit normal combo linked into Ring Whirlwind. It's much more powerful than Ring Cyclone, so you should get this attack. ********* Item Rover ********* Learned: Level 28 Usage Requirements: Item Thief: 50 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 22 Hits: 1 Damage Multiplier: 3.0 In-Game Description: A chance of stealing an item and Gald from the target. Colette's other Stealing Tech. It's the exact same as Item Thief, only stronger. It also steals 500 Gald if its sucessful at stealing. Its useful for finishing combos up because it is one good strong hit. ********* Grand Chariot /!\ ********* Learned: Level 32 Usage Requirements: All Ray Thrust Variants/Pow Hammer Variants: 50 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 24 Hits: 2 Damage Multiplier: 3.2 (2.0 of which is [Lightning]) In-Game Description: Throw chakrams in a cross, causing lightning to strike. Another powerful Lightning attack. A great Combo-finisher. It works like a Ray Thrust combined with a Para Ball, but even if the enemy guards the attack, the lightning will still hit. ********* Stardust Cross /!\ ********* Learned: Level 50 Usage Requirements: All Pow Hammer Variants/Ring Whirlwind Variants: 50 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 34 Hits: 14 Damage Multiplier: 5.7 (2.0 of which is [Lightning]) In-Game Description: Multiple stars fall from overhead. This attack is pretty hard to aim, but is quite powerful. Colette throws an object up into the air, causing a blast of stars to fall at about a 45 degree angle towards the ground, hitting the enemy repeatedly. This a good attack to finish a mid-range combo with. ********* Damage Guard ********* Learned: Event Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 10% Hits: -- Damage Multiplier: -- In-Game Description: Defend againsts most attacks and magic. This is Colette's version of Guardian. She can't be killed when she activates it. Magic: ------ Angel Feathers /!\ ********* Learned: Event Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 20 Hits: 3 [Light] In-Game Description: Rings of light appear and attack the enemy. Colette's first Angel Skill. This is a Mid-Level Magic, that will hit the enemy, no matter their position on the battlefield. It does medium damage. ********* Holy Song /!\ ********* Learned: Event Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 35 Hits: -- [Status Skill] In-Game Description: Increases defense and offense of the entire party for a time. The second best Status buff in the game. This spell increases all Allies damage output by 25% as well as decreasing the damage that anyone in your party takes by 25%. This effect lasts for 1 minute and 30 seconds, and stacks with Raine's status buffs. ********* Sacrifice /!\ ********* Learned: Event Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 150 Hits: 2 [Light] In-Game Description: Attack all enemies and heal all members in exchange for your life. Colette has two attacks that shouldn't be used. Torrential Para Ball is one, and this is the other. Of course, everyone is gonna use it once, just to see what it does. This spell heals all allies (even KO'd ones) besides her by 30% of their Max HP, and strikes all enemies with an unavoidible blast of light that deals out a large amount of damage. Then, as the spell ends, Colette dies. It is possible to cancel this spell in mid-action by finishing off the last enemy before her HP begins to deplete. This will cause the spell's usage counter to rise without her being killed. ********* Judgment /!\ ********* Learned: Event Usage Requirements: None T or S: Neither TP Cost: 40 Hits: ? [Light] In-Game Description: Attack all enemies with the light of Judgment. A powerful light magic spell that has lasers rain, dealing out a good deal of light damage to anything hit by this spell. Colette's version of the spell comes out significantly faster than Kratos's slow version, but her incantation is no where near as cool. It's highly inaccurate, however. -????- (Holy Judgment) /!\ ********* Learned: Special Usage Requirements: Judgment/Holy Song: 50 T or S: Neither TP Cost: 100 Hits: ? [Light] In-Game Description: --- Special Usage: When Judgment and Holy Song have 50 or more uses, cast one of these 2 spells, and this may occur. Colette's Hi-Ougi, Holy Judgment is a combination of Holy Song and Judgment. When she casts this spell she messes up the spell that she was trying to cast, and instead, her divine clumsiness kicks in, and she fuses that spell with the other, and it becomes quite strong. This spell applies "Holy Song Effect" to all allies, and calls down Judgment at 3 times its strength. An easy way to use this attack is to Cast Holy Song, and if the "Target" icon is present, cancel it by guarding. Then try again until it doesn't appear. If it's not there, the spell will be Holy Judgment. Beware of Trigger Finger. ############################################################## #Section 2.1: Colette's Compound Unison Attacks [ColUni]# ############################################################## Pow Blade ********* Other Character: Lloyd Techs: Pow Hammer (T-Series) and Tiger Blade Series (Match level) Hits: 2 Lloyd is equipped with two massive Pow Hammers, and performs a Tiger Blade upon the enemy. Damage: Medium ********* Pow Devastation ********* Other Character: Presea Techs: Pow Hammer (T-Series) and Devstation Series (Match level) Hits: 2 Presea is equipped with a massive Pow Hammer and strikes the enemy with her Devastation tech. Lightning then smites said enemy. Damage: Medium-High [Lightning] ********* Stardust Rain ********* Other Character: Lloyd Techs: Hammer Rain and Sword Rain: Alpha or Sonic Sword Rain Hits: Up to 150 (LCK based, also affected by the enemy size and shape) One of the two "Cosmic" Compound Unison attacks. The background shifts to space, and Lloyd and Colette both raise their hands and then anywhere between 40 and 150 tiny stars rain from the sky, bombarding the enemy for huge damage. Don't expect to get high hit counts from her. Her most Combo-Friendly Basic Combo is A,A. Both without directional input. Remember that. Also, due to Combo Hit damage Reduction, Colette is best off linking her level 2 attack from her Basic Combo to take advantage of the higher multipliers. Most of her combos have the Para Ball attack in them, because that particular tech is godly powerful. Just be careful to not use it when the enemy is guarding. Some good Combos: All Purpose Combos. These can be easily performed against your average enemy. These combos are versitile. All Purpose Combo #1 A,A -> Para Ball -> Grand Chariot TP: 38 Total Damage Multipler: 9.12 Hits: 8 This combo is a favorite- it hits hard and doesn't use too much TP, and it refrains from the high hit numbers that are quick to give the enemy over limits. It's also good at hitting any enemy. All Purpose Combo #2 "The Thief Combo" A,A -> Para Ball -> Item Rover TP: 36 Total Damage Multiplier: 9.04 Hits: 7 Another hard-hitting general combo. This one, however has a kick back in the fact that it also has the potential to steal items and 500 Gald. All Purpose Combo #3 "A Step Back" vA -> Para Ball -> Stardust Cross TP: 48 Total Damage Multiplier: 10.5 Hits: 19 A nice combo that is performed at a range. It is an attack that can hit from outside of most enemies' attack range. All Purpose Combo #4 "Spin Me Right Round" >A,A -> Para Ball -> Whirlwind Rush TP: 36 Total Damage Multiplier: 9.55 Hits: 11 This combo is probably a bit more useful than the first one listed, but doesn't have that edge against Lightning weak foes, and it also has 3 more hits. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vs. Large Enemies Colette is a large enemy's worst nightmare. Her combos absolutely rip them to shreds. Giant Sewer Rats? Dragons? The Final Boss's second form? They're all complete fodder against the following combos. Vs. Large Enemy Combo #1 A,A -> Para Ball -> Triple Ray Satellite TP 40 Total Damage Multiplier: 12.91 Hits: 21 A general, large foe killing combo. Vs. Large Enemy Combo #2 "It Rains" A,A -> Ring Whirlwind -> Hammer Rain TP 41 Total Damage Multiplier: 12.7 Hits: 16 Again, just a high-end combo that is absurdly effective against large enemies. A cool thing about this combo is that if you time it right, it's also a good combo to start a unison attack from. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vs. Lightning Resistant Enemies. Colette has some trouble against foes with a resistance to lightning. But a quick tech swap, switching Para Ball out for Ray Satellite or Ring Whirlwind can provide a quick and easy solution. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vs. Small Enemies Wher Colette absolutely rips large enemies to shreds, she has a few problems facing off against smaller foes. However, this is mostly a range issue. Take a few steps back from normal attack range, and she'll be able to treat the smaller foes just like normal ones. Don't forget that attacks like Grand Chariot and Whirlwind Rush are good at hitting just about everything. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vs. Flying Enemies Colette has a good arsenal of "Shoot Down" techs, that can knock flying foes out of the sky. A Good Anti Flying combo. Pow Hammer -> Stardust Cross TP: 42 Total Damage Multiplier: 6.07 Hits: 15 This combo's only purpose is to shoot down flying foes and open them up to other attacks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Infinite Combo Colette can perform an infinite Combo. To do so, it is recommended that you change Guard to L or R. To perform the infinite Combo, set a spell like Angel Feathers to B, and then hold Guard. While Holding Guard Perform the following Combo A,A->Angel Feathers (This will cancel immediately)->A,A -> (Repeat) This combo doesn't use any TP, and it can continue on forever. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Toss Hammer Toss Hammer is one of Colette's secret Techs. Once she's used Pow Hammer 200 times, you'll start to see every once and a while a Green Pow Hammer. This is Toss Hammer. It can Poison foes, and can appear out of any of her Pow Hammer techs, except the Para Ball line. There are no enemies immune to Pow Hammer's effect, so feel free to abuse it. The higher Colette's LCK is, the more likely it is that she'll use a Toss Hammer rather than a regular Pow Hammer. Higher LCK may also increase the chance that it poisons foes, so be sure to increase Colette's LCK before using a strategy that relies on the skill. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################ #Section 6: Legal Mumbo Jumbo [Lawjuk]# ############################################ This guide may be printed for personal use and given to others as long as no money is made in it.
