TRANSLATION NOTICE: There are now several skills that, typically due to them being S type while my characters were T, I do not know the names for. If you do, contact me. In related news, when the version of this FAQ reaches 2.0, I will consider it "Complete, with errors", and welcome any translation suggestions at all. Until that time, some blank sections may remain. ---Legal Notice--- All trademarks and copyrights contained in this document are owned by their respective trademark and copyright holders. This guide currently may only be used at http://www.gamefaqs.com Further, the GameFAQs version of this guide will always have the most current list, so please check that version first before wondering if a site has permission. ---Note--- This guide was written based on the Japanese version of the game. While this makes its primary, and most useful, purpose to provide translations for importers, the game content is unchanged between versions, so this guide will work for the US version of Symphonia as well. I have submitted two fairly simple maps to GameFAQs. Other than, of course, the fact that I made them late at night and misspelled Altesta as Altamista, they're fairly accurate. I'm now on my third play, with EXPx10, so I really can't tell you what level to be. I'm level 90 when you'd probably be 40. New addition -- I got the Tales of Symphonia Official Complete Guide, so all names used within this guide will now be changed to english versions appearing in there, even if it conflicts with sound test, on the basis that "hiroic" isn't a word, so the sound test is fallible. April 2004 Addition -- the June Nintendo Power reveals some name changes, such as Shihna --> Sheena, Genius --> Genis, and Mitos --> Mythos. Given that 2-3 sources can be cited, created by Namco, using the english names in a certain way, this guide will use those names. Once the US version of the game releases, information on what skill/person/item is what in that version will be added, but none of the original names, terms, etc. will be replaced. February 2006 Update -- After a long absence (sorry!) I've resumed work on this guide. As far as I know, with my completion of the Temple of Darkness section, the walkthrough portion is now complete. Contact section has also been revised slightly, as well as a lot of content added to the skill/item sections. Note on names -- Because this was written using the Japanese version, the Japanese names of locations are everywhere, and too numerous to replace. I will make note under each area name that the US name is, if it has changed, but I cannot change all instances of the name. Minor changes will be made, if I prefer the name. For example, calling Triet an Oasis instead of a Flower, or Palmacosta instead of the name Parumacosta. ______________________________________________________________________ -------------Contents------------- [Characters] 1. The numbers for the skills are borrowed from the Official Complete Guide, by Namco. Translation of all information is done by me, unless otherwise noted, so there may be errors. Any skill name listed only in Japanese means I don't know how to translate it. Help would be appreciated, and will be credited fully. Additionally, when I say hit, that's max hit, sometimes a skill will do fewer hits. Format for skill names is #. JP | (my) translation | US --Note: The "Learn" section on skills is the requirements, or pre-requisites, for learning the skill. So "Level X, used Y Z times" means that you must be at level X, and have used skill Y at least Z times. You will gain the skill after that point seemingly randomly while using the pre-requisite skill. ______________________________________________________________________ ---1. Lloyd Irving--- Lloyd is, as you'd quickly find out anyway, the main character. He fights in battle with two swords, and his techs are almost all short- range abilities. He's intended to be in close with the enemies, not hiding back with Refill and Genius. As I find to be the case with most characters, his Technical skill trees are almost always superior to Strike type. You can control other characters, but since he becomes remarkably powerful, particularly with the Majinken Neblim, I suggest manually controlling Lloyd. [Lloyd's name remains unchanged in the US version] ______________________________________________________________________ ---1.1 Lloyd's Skills--- Lloyd's skills are in kanji in the game, but to save space on the width of this file, i'll be using the roomaji, then translation, then US name, then putting the kanji on the second row... mostly for my own convenience for translation. Translations are litral, so don't blame me if they don't make sense, unless I mistransalted. -- 1. Useable after you have the Space/time swordsman title [US: Eternal Swordsman], with the Material Blade equipped, less than 15% HP, 100 TP, and you press X, A, and B. Complete waste, since the Maken Neblim is strong enough you probably won't often drop to that low HP. ______________________________________________________________________ ---2. Collet Brunel--- Collet... is not someone I used often. She has a variety of long-range skills, but is relatively weak, and dies easily. At first glance, fans of Tales of Phantasia may mistake her for the Mint of this game, but she is not -- Refill takes up that role. Collet's skills are some of the weirdest katakana I've ever tried to translate... in fact, I have no idea what most of them are trying to say. So, I'll be calling this "good enough" at what I can, and ask that anybody more familiar with Japanese than me please contact me with what these are supposed to say. His weapon in battle is... barely a weapon. Set his AI to stay away from close combat, and use items to raise his TP when it gets low so he won't start fighting. Genius's place is on the back lines, casting spells. [In the US version, Genius has been renamed Genus] ______________________________________________________________________ ---3.1 Genius's Skills--- Genius's Skills are offensive magic, and in most cases, Technical type tends to give superior results to Strike type. --Aqua Edge line, water element spells-- 1. アクアエッジ | Aqua Edge | Aqua Edge Power: 35x3 Hit: 3 TP: 8 Learn: Level 7 Effect: One 2. スプレッド | Spread | Spread Power: 95x4 Hit: 4 TP: 22 Learn: Level 17 and used Aqua Edge 50 times Effect: Area Technical 3. タイダルウェイブ | Tidal Wave | Tidal Wave Power: 40x12 Hit: 12 TP: 60 Learn: Level 38 and used Spread 50 times Effect: All Technical 4. アクアレイザー | Aqua Laser | Aqua Laser Power: 140x3 Hit: 3 TP: 20 Learn: Level 17 and used Aqua Edge 50 times Effect: One Strike --Fireball line, fire element-- 5. ファイアボール | Fireball | Fire Ball Power: 35x3 Hit: 3 TP: 7 Learn: Initially Effect: One 6. イラプション | Eruption | Eruption Power: 120x3 Hit: 3 TP: 24 Learn: Level 23, and used Fireball 50 times Effect: Area Technical 7. エクスプロード | Explode | Explosion Power: 800 Hit: 1 TP: 55 Learn: Level 56, and used Eruption 50 times Effect: Area Technical 8. フレイムランス | Flame Lance | Flame Lance Power: 200+250 Hit: 2 TP: 24 Learn: Level 23 and used Fireball 50 times Effect: One Strike --Wind Cutter line, wind element-- 9. ウィンドカッター | Wind Cutter | Wind Blade Power: 30x3 Hit: 3 TP: 8 Learn: Level 5 Effect: One 10. エアスラスト | Air Thrust | Air Thrust Power: 45x7 Hit: 7 TP: 22 Learn: Level 20 and used Wind Cutter 50 times Effect: Area Technical 11. サイクロン | Cyclone | Cyclone Power: 75x12 Hit: 12 TP: 50 Learn: Level 50 and used Air Thrust 50 times Effect: Area Technical 12. エアブレイド | Air Blade | Air Blade Power: 145x3 Hit: 3 TP: 22 Learn: Level 20 and used Wind Cutter 50 times Effect: One Strike --Stone Blast line, earth element-- 13. ストーンブラスト | Stone Blast | Stone Blast Power: 40x3 Hit: 3 TP: 7 Learn: level 3 Effect: One 14. ロックブレイク | Rock Break | Stalagmite Power: 70x5 Hit: 5 TP: 20 Learn: Level 14 and used Stone Blast 50 times Effect: Area Technical 15. グランドダッシャー | Grand Dasher | Ground Dasher Power: 65x10 Hit: 10 TP: 46 Learn: Level 46 and used Rock Break 50 times Effect: Area Technical 16. グレイブ | Grave | Grave Power: 85x5 Hit: 5 TP: 22 Learn: Level 14 and used Stone Blast 50 times Effect: One Strike --Lightning line, thunder element-- 17. ライトニング | Lightning | Lightning Power: 105 Hit: 1 TP: 9 Learn: Level 9 Effect: One 18. サンダーブレード | Thunder Blade | Thunder Blade Power: 120+100x3 Hit: 4 TP: 28 Learn: Level 26 and used Lightning 50 times Effect: Area Technical 19. インディグネイション | Indignation | Indignation Power: 1000 Hit: 1 TP: 60 Learn: Level 60 and used Thunder Blade 50 times Effect: Area Technical 20. スパークウェブ | Spark Web | Spark Wave Power: 60x8 Hit: 8 TP: 26 Learn: Level 26 and used Lightning 50 times Effect: One Strike --Icicle line, ice element 21. アイシクル | Icicle | Icicle Power: 55x2 Hit: 2 TP: 10 Learn: Level 11 Effect: One 22. アイストーネード | Ice Tornado | Ice Tornado Power: 70x6 Hit: 6 TP: 30 Learn: Level 29 and used Icicle 50 times Effect: Area Technical 23. フリーズランサー | Freeze lancer | Freeze Lancer Power: 80x6 Hit: 6 TP: 29 Learn: Level 29 and used Icicle 50 times Effect: One Strike 24. レイジングミスト | Razing Mist | Raging Mist Element: Fire Power: 100x5 Hit: 5 TP: 38 Learn: Lv. 35 and know Eruption and Spread Effect: Area 25. グラビティ | Gravity | Gravity Well Element: None Power: 70x8 Hit: 8 TP: 42 Learn: Lv. 42 and know Thunder Blade and Rock Break Effect: Area 26. スパイラルフレア | Spiral Flare | Spiral Flare Element: Fire Power: 120x5 Hit: 6 TP: 38 Learn: Lv. 35 and know Flame Lance and Air Blade Effect: One 27. ヴォルトアロー | Volt Arrow | Thunder Arrow Element: Thunder Power: 72x10 Hit: 10 TP: 42 Learn: Level 40 and know Spark Web and Flame Lance Effect: One 28. アドプレッシャー | Add Pressure | Dreaded Wave Element: Earth Power: 60x8 Hit: 8 TP: 34 Learn: Level 32 Effect: One 29. マイトアトラス | Might Atlas | Atlas Element: Wind Power: 78x9 Hit: 9 TP: 42 Learn: Level 48 and know Air Blade and Aqua Laser Effect: One 30. アブソリュート | Absolute | Absolute Element: Ice Power: 300+480 Hit: 2 TP: 46 Learn: Level 44 and know Freeze Lancer and Grave Effect: One 31. バイトオブアース | Bite of Earth | Earth Bite Element: Earth Power: 60x8+200x2 Hit: 10 TP: 44 Learn: Level 53 and know Grave and Spark Web Effect: One 32. プリズムソード | Prism Sword | Prism Sword Element: Light Power: 300x6+600 Hit: 7 TP: 58 Learn: Level 58 and know Absolute and Might Atlas Effect: One 33. メテオスォーム | Meteor Swarm | Meteor Storm Element: None Power: 425x13 Hit: 14 TP: 80 Learn: Sub event in Heimdarr Effect: All 34. フォースフィールド | Forcefield | Force Field Defend against most attacks and magic. Use Indignation when in overlimits, and if you've used Indignation at least 50 times, Genius will do Indignate Judgment instead. ______________________________________________________________________ 4. Refill Sage Refill is what players of Phantasia would expect Collet to be. This is Symphonia's Mint. Refill uses a staff, and her skills are support and curative. Like Genius, keep her away from enemies, as it doesn't take much to kill her. You may need to tinker with AI further as well, she tends to get pretty trigger-happy when it comes to Photon. Refill is half-elf, and Genius's older sister. [In the US version, Refill has been renamed Raine] ______________________________________________________________________ 4.1 Refill's Skills Like Genius, Refill casts magic from the back lines. However, most of her spells are targeted at your party members, not the enemies. I'm not really sure if Technical or Strike type is better for Refill. I had her, and all my characters, on Technical, but Strike may work just as well. Refill's spells have no power, hit count, or element, except for 3. Therefore, these stats will only be listed where applicable. Also, effect is like with Genius, the effect range/area of the spell. Shihna Fujibayashi Shihna is a ninja from Mizuho, sent to assassinate Sylvarant's Miko. Her weapons are umm... cards or something. I'm really not sure, sorry. Her skills are offensive, support (giving your weapons an element), and summoning. As another Tales of Phantasia reference, note the last name, the ninja in later versions of Phantasia was Fujibayashi Suzu. (following the Japanese system of naming, with surname first). Fujibayashi is also Shihna's last name. [In the US version, Shihna has been renamed to Sheena] ______________________________________________________________________ 5.1 Shihna's Skills Because Shihna's skills mostly use kanji, that I don't know, and I always had her as Technical Type, I do not know the names of many of her Strike Type skills. Kratos Aurion and Zelos Wilder Kratos and Zelos are unique in that only one of them is in your party at a time. When Kratos leaves for story reasons, Zelos joins shortly after. Ultimately, an event lets you choose which one you want with you at the end of the game. Both use swords, and a mix of offensive abilities, and offensive and curative magic. However, I believe only Kratos can learn Judgement. [Remarkably, Namco didn't choose to alter either of these names for US release] ______________________________________________________________________ 6.1 Kratos and Zelos's Skills Once again my tendancies for Technical Type leave me without Japanese names for some skills. 1. Next to each area name will be at least part of the Japanese name, so you can recognize it yourself in-game. Additionally, the US version name (if different) will appear under. -----Part 1 - Sylvarant to Tethe Alla----- ---1. The Village of Oracles: Iselia--- イセリア 「もういいわ。 じゃあ今の答え.... ジーニアス。 あなたが答えて」 -Storyline event in classroom, no player control. After seeing the odd light flash, Refill leaves the room. At this point, you gain control over Lloyd. You can talk to any classmates you wish, but to progress you simply need to walk toward the door. Genius will run over to talk with you. Either option will progress the story, but a little more motivation to go investigate limps over if you choose the second. Collet, Genius, and Lloyd will decide to go investigate the shrine. -Investigate the Collet-shaped hole in the wall at this point to get a title for Collet. -On your way out, you should encounter your first Skit. Hit Z to view it. -Outside the school, there is more dialogue, this time with Collet's father, Frank. Use the save point (hit A while standing on it), and then attempt to exit the map at the top to encounter your first... well, encounter. Your weapons are weak, but thankfully so is your opponent. You can pretty easily get through this just by running over as Lloyd and hitting A repeatedly. (I hope you're on Manual battle!). Note that Lloyd already has the skill Majinken, assigned to B. Your second encounter occurs immediately after, this time with two enemies. -Now, exit the map, to go to the Field. (You must hit A at the edge, you can't just walk out of town). On the Field Map, head West until you reach Martel Church. Use your own judgement to determine if you should take time to level up or not. ______________________________________________________________________ ---2. Martel Church--- マーテル 「神子はどこだ?」 "miko wa doko da?" -More dialogue. If you chose the first option earlier, the motivation will limp down the stairs now. Run up the stairs to see Dezaian for the first time. Get used to the guy named Borta, he's not going away anytime soon. -Battle Advice: If they defend too much, get behind them, an attack to the back breaks their guard. -Next up, your first boss battle! Don't worry too much, regardless of how well you're doing, your entire party falls to its knees and you are saved by a mysterious swordsman anyway. NOW the actual fight begins. You will learn to absolutely love this guy until Refill joins, as he has First Aid. --BOSS: VIDARR -HP: 4,000 -EXP: 115 -Gald: 25 -Items: Life Bottle -Battle Advice: This boss can knock you away. Hit X while in mid-air to do a nice little backflip and save time by not lying around on the ground for a while. -After beating the boss, the swordsman's Exsphere is noticed by Lloyd, and more voiced dialogue ensues. The swordsman reveals himself as Kratos, arguably the cooler of the two swordsmen you will encounter in this game. Your party will enter the shrine (though Genius does so with less enthusiasm). -The path left is blocked, so only go that way if you want some EXP, instead, head right, and down the stairs. Lloyd will notice a pedestal in the distance, and point it out to your party. Collet finds something a bit more immediately useful, a Golem. Kill it, and Collet will accidentally push its corpse down a hole in the floor. Another Golem will appear, kill it, and this time you have to do the corpse- defiling yourself. Either way, you're trying to make a path to the center pedestal to progress. There are chests to the left and right, as well. They are a Life Bottle, and a Panacea Bottle, respectively. Use the save point on the lower level if needed. -From the central pedestal you receive the Sorcerer's Ring. Use the X button outside of battle to shoot fireballs. Later dungeons will modify the function of the ring as needed to suit the puzzles. The Sorcerer's Ring does not function on the Field Map. As a nice little bonus, shoot enemies with it to stun them, and prevent battle. -Go back to where the Golems were. Take the left staircase for an Apple Gummy, a Life Bottle, and 250 Gald. Then return and take the right staircase to return to the first room. This time go up from the first area, to a barrier. Shoot the door behind with the Sorcerer's Ring to progress. Use the warp that is reveaed to travel to the final area of this shrine. There is no boss, but do not get used to that. You can assume to have to fight a boss at every shrine you go to after this. Anyway, a cutscene occurs instead of a fight, and you meet Remiel, an Angel. A little shiny...thing goes into Collet, and then you get a short anime scene out the window to show you the Tower of Salvation. Talk to everyone, yes, all three of them, to continue. -Back in the first room, you encounter Refill going Relical. Enjoy some amusing scenes, even if you can't understand why they're happening. At the least, Refill and Lloyd teach you why that hole back in the school was Genius-shaped. Leave the church, and return to Iselia. ______________________________________________________________________ ---3. The Village of Oracles: Iselia--- イセリア 「私に異存はない」 "watashi ni izon wa nai" -When you enter town, save if you so desire, then go right, and into the large flowery house there, for a scene. You will recieve the Collector's Zukan (Picture Book). Watch Lloyd lie his way out of an awkward situation, then go down to the southern exit to encounter Lloyd's...whatever, Naoise. -On the world map, head west a very short distance to Iselia Forest. ______________________________________________________________________ ---4. Iselia Forest--- イセリアの森 「あ、また逃げた!」 "a, mata nigeta!" -After the short scene with Naoise, head right and up the hill. -Head left behind a tree for a chest containing an Apple Gummy. Then go right again, and grab the Life Bottle from the chest. Continue up the path until a scene occurs with Genius. Use the save point, then go left into the next screen. Another encounter with your friendly neighborhood evil people, Dezaian! -Head left along the wall until a scene occurs with Marble (the old woman). Return like you're going to go back to the last screen, but instead go up, on the right side of the trees and rocks, and you can jump up the cliffside. Make sure to get the Orange Gummy on the way. At the top, another scene, wherein Genius gets to fry the backsides of a few guys. Lloyd uses more of his Mario-esque jumping skills as well. -One simple battle, and then Lloyd jumps yet again, this time off a rather large cliff. Why he didn't at least break a leg or seven in this portion isn't really ever explained so don't think about it too much. Genius leaves your party, so use the save point again. -This time leave the screen at the top. Up and to the left on this new screen is an Apple Gummy. Head right from there to a semi-hidden chest containing Leather Gloves. Equip them on Lloyd. Go back left, down just a little, and right again for a chest with another Apple Gummy. Follow the path down and across the bridge to the right. Grab the 500 Gald in the chest here, then keep going. Head up, and under the fallen tree. Grab the bag on top of it (an Orange Gummy), and then exit to the Field from the top. Head West to Dike's Home. ______________________________________________________________________ ---5. Dike's Home--- ダイクの家 「ただいま、母さん...」 "tadaima, kaasan..." -A short scene panning around the scenery, including the grave of Lloyd's mother. Go in the house to talk with Dike. Despite not saying that much, this conversation carries you into night. Lloyd will go outside, and then you will encounter your friends. Yet more scenes, but at least they're voiced. Note the moon that Collet and Lloyd look at. -Once you finally have control again, go talk to Dike in front of Lloyd's mother's grave. He'll give you a few items, and a Sylvarant Map. Genius will appear, and you will automatically return to Iselia. ______________________________________________________________________ ---6. The Village of Oracles: Iselia--- イセリア 「人間なんて、汚い」 "ningen nante, kitanai" -Go to Collet's house. Lloyd will read a letter written to him by her. -Following the sound of an explosion, leave the house. Use the save point, then head down to the burning house. You will have another fight with Dezaian. This time one enemy has a crossbow, keep that in mind. Head toward the southern exit of Iselia for another scene. Meet Foshtess, or something similar. His name isn't made English as easily as some others. -Time for your second boss fight. Like last time, if you get knocked back, hit X to save yourself. Don't be afraid to keep your distance though, as this boss does have a few more close-range special skills. You will probably begin to wish for a sword that wasn't made of wood, but the battle should not be too hard. -After the battle, another scene, and you learn that Dezaian has an interest in Lloyd. You also learn just who that boss was. She tells you to run, and then sacrifices herself. Genius picks up her Exsphere, and Lloyd agrees to leave the town. Genius attempts to defend him, but to no avail, so he leaves with you. Lloyd receieves a new title, "Lost Swordsman". -Head south. You'll have an event that activates EX Skills. I strongly reccomend making both Lloyd and Genius T-Type for the game. Many of Lloyd's skills have longer chains under T, same for Genius, and they're often better. For example, Genius's Lightning spell. As a S-Type, he'll learn Spark Web. As a T-Type, he'll learn Thunder Blade, and then Indignation. -If needed, stay the night at the church along the way, it's fairly cheap, and useful, enemies get a little bit harder, and in larger groups, once you reach the desert. At least stop in, as a guy here will activate and explain Long Mode for the Iselia area. Essentially, Long Mode lets you ride Noishu on the world map, thus being fast enough to avoid battles. You can still get into battles while on him though, he isn't a Chocobo after all. Head south until you reach Triett. ______________________________________________________________________ ---7. Flower of the Desert: Triet--- トリエット -Lloyd notices some Dezaian soldiers, so you sneak in behind Naoise. They hang an amusingly drawn poster of Lloyd up on a board, then walk off screen. Walk up/left toward some shops, and a fat guy will talk to you. Go over and talk to him to get Soft Leather (armor), and if you have been fighting enemies, you might have the items needed to use his Customize Shop to turn that into Hard Leather. Do so if you can, and equip the Hard Leather on Lloyd. The little kid just past him is the weapon shop. You can buy a Knight's Saber for Lloyd and a Fine Play for Genius. If you have the money (keeping in mind that you'll likely want to buy some healing items) buy them both. If not, just get the Knight's Saber, Genius doesn't do much physical attacking anyway. Feel free to sell any equipment that you replace, you won't ever need those Wood Swords again. If you made the Hard Leather, and got those Leather Gloves back in Iselia forest, the armor shop won't have anything new for Lloyd, but it's a good idea to give Genius better armor. If you investigate a nearby building, you'll see a person-shaped hole in it. You shouldn't have to guess which Half-Elf Teacher was here recently. -Items: If you're prone to completion, grab some Spectacles (last item on the list, 10 Gald). Use these on an enemy to add their information to your Monster Zukan (once you have it that is). Buy some Apple Gummies, since you don't currently have a healer, and consider Orange Gummies for recovering Genius's TP. Panacea Bottles cure status, and Life Bottles revive the dead. Get a few of each if you can afford it. -Head back to the next screen, to the farthest tent, a fortune teller. Lloyd will ask her about Collet, for which she wants 100 Gald. If you don't have it, sell the food items you've doubtless received from battles. She'll mention Efreet, but don't get your hopes up, you won't be getting Seirei (spirits) for quite a while. By talking to the fortune teller again, you can ask her about Collet, Genius, or Kratos, but this is optional. -IMPORTANT: If you want to do any levelling up, do it now, before you look at the poster Dezaian put up. You can't leave to the Field after you do. Once you're ready, look at it, then try to leave Triett. Dezaian will confront you, and a battle ensues. You win, but Lloyd is shot and stunned anyway. As he is taken away, Genius follows, only to be turned away once Lloyd reaches Sylvarant Base. ______________________________________________________________________ ---8. Sylvarant Base--- シルヴァラントベース 「何者だ!」 "nanimono da!" -Welcome to a prison cell, not the most wonderful place to be. Luckily, in a stroke of genius on Dezaian's part, the trigger to open your cell door is when a soldier is shot with fire. Use the Sorcerer's Ring when he walks by. Grab the chest, then use the save point. Head right to regain your entire inventory, and the menu screen, from a chest. How that all fit in there is something you can decide for yourself. Go a little further for your first solo battle since Iselia Forest. They attack primarily by stabbing, so don't be afraid to jump over them and attack from behind. -Next room, two soldiers will activate a security system that doubles as the next puzzle. The game demonstrates how to open the next door even. First things first though, examine the pedestal to change your Sorcerer's Ring's function to a more electrical one. To open the door, you must shoot both enemies while they're on the panels. Once that's done, go through. Note that just like the fire Socereror's Ring, this one can stun enemies on the map. In this hall, if you exit to the top, you'll reach a machine that sells everything the item shop in Triett did. It is a good idea to fight every enemy in dungeons, because from this dungeon on a new feature is added. There are inactivate save points within the dungeons, and to activate them you must use a Memory Gem. You get these after a battle with some enemy in the dungeon. You will be told when you return to the map, with some blue text, so it's hard to miss. I don't think it's a certain enemy that carries the Gem, and you can't save without one, so fight enemies at least until you get a Memory Gem. In this dungeon, I got it from the soldier in this hallway. Continue to the left to a large room with a hall, and one of the inactive save points I spoke of. -Talk to the brown machine in the upper-left to learn about this puzzle. The three spinning rods to the left rotate the colored buttons around the Gamecube by 180, 90, and 45 degrees, respectively from top to bottom. To progress, you only need to make the green buttons match. -With the green lights active, head up, and Lloyd runs away...and right to yet another guy who already knows who Lloyd is. After some dialogue, Borta reappears. Fortunately, your party returns as well, including Kratos and Collet. -3rd boss battle, Borta. His attacks are short-range, so Lloyd will probably get hurt a lot, but you have Kratos again, so you shouldn't be in too much risk of dying. He only has 4,200HP. If you want to know how much he currently has, use Spectacles on him. Watch out if he goes Overlimits (black aura), as he will do more damage and take less. If you go Overlimits, the same occurs for you though, so keep that in mind. He does have two Dezaian soldiers with him, but they're a minor threat by this point. -Borta leaves behind a staff that he pulled out of who knows where. He certainly didn't have it in the battle, so why he GIVES it to you is anyone's guess. Your party will promptly depart. ______________________________________________________________________ ---9. Flower of the Desert: Triet--- トリエット 「あんた、動物が好きなのか?」 "anta, doubutsu ga sukina no ka?" -Dialogue scene as soon as you enter. You'll stay the night at the inn and have a conversation in your room. When you regain control, head upstairs, and go in the left door. (When the green box pops up when you try, select the first option to enter). You'll have a voiced talk with Refill. After you finish talking with Refill, leave, and you'll see Kratos walking outside. Go with the first option again, and let's follow him. Lloyd learns an important lesson about sneaking up on well armed swordsmen in the middle of the night. Once Kratos and Lloyd are done, it becomes day, and you regain control back in your room. -On the second story walkway, go to the far right and examine what's there to meet the Wonder Chef. He teaches you a recipie, but don't ask me what it is... Or why he poofs out of random objects either... -Save if you so desire, then head outside. Refill will give you the Monster Zukan (Picure Book), and join your party. The Monster Zukan keeps track of all the enemies you've encountered, and gives various stat values for them if you've used Spectacles on them before. -Thanks to your new party members, you may want to stop by the weapon and armor shops. If giving Collet and Refill "armor" didn't bankrupt you, restock items as needed. Leave Triett, and head South-west to the ruins. You can see them in that direction from Triett on the field map, so you shouldn't be able to get lost. Note that Refill is the game's healer, so if you're taking a lot of damage, move her into your party. ______________________________________________________________________ ---10. Triet Relic--- 旧トリ工ット跡 「素晴らしい」 "subarashii" -Lloyd doesn't seem to enjoy the heat and dryness, so you get another dialogue scene, followed by battle against two Fire Elements. More dialogue follows. From this, Lloyd and Kratos gain suigojin, Refill and Genius get Forcefield, and Collet gets Reduce Damage. All three skills are defensive. Hit down + X in battle to use them. Whereas X normally defends, and takes off some damage, these skills guard a much larger portion of the damage. There is, however, a TP cost, 10% or so, I think. -Anyway, head left to the stone structures, and watch Refill, for the first voiced time, go Relical. If you suddenly find yourself wanting to scream "subarashii" every time something interests you, blame her. Dialogue here is enjoyable too, around when Kratos asks if Refill is always like this. Refill gains her Relic Mania title at this point. -Collet opens the door in the ground, so head down the stairs. The path very quickly branches in three. I believe this dungeon's enemy with Memory Gem tends to appear along the downward path, so if you're desperate for the ability to save, you can go that way now, but for the rest of us, let's go straight through the doorway ahead. -Most of the puzzles in this dungeon take place in this room. Head up, past the block, and around to the left for two chests, a Bracelet and a Life Bottle. Equip the Bracelet on Refill (Collet can also equip it, but Refill's defense is lower, and you may need Refill to heal you against the boss of this dungeon). Then head back past the block, and as far down as you can go in this point of the dungeon. Fight the enemy there, or avoid it, and grab the Apple Gummy from the chest. -Now we can finally get on with the puzzle. There are two blocks in this immediate area, and a gap to the left. Push both blocks into that space, and then go up the ramp (it's facing toward you, so it may be harder to tell, but vertically it goes up). This is a dead end, but it won't always be that way, so take the time to note where it is, and what the surroundings look like. -Leave the main room, and go back to the branching path. This time go down. Don't go in the door here quite yet though, look to the left and you'll see a chest covered in rocks. Shoot the rocks with the Sorcerer's Ring, then grab the Lemon Gummy from the chest. Now go through the doorway. Fight the enemy here (this is where I got a Memory Gem), and then try to walk to the right a little. A scene will occur with Lloyd and Refill. From where you're standing when it finishes, use the Sorcerer's Ring. This should give you an idea of how the puzzles here work. Notice what platforms were raised? Leave the main room via the bottom door, and re-enter through the middle (where you went in the first time). -Now, first, head back up the ramp that was a dead-end earlier, and grab the two chests that are now within reach for a Mumei Blade and 1000 Gald. Equip the Mumei Blade on Lloyd. Now go back down the ramp, and shoot the candle there with the Sorcerer's Ring to raise another platform. Exit the room, and take the upper path this time. However, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE CHEST AT THE END OF THIS PATH. It is an enemy, and one you may not be ready for. If you think you are, that's great, but wait until after you can save in here to fight it. Go in the doorway. -In this portion of the room, go up, and then left, to another block. Push it right, then down, and then (due to a camera angle change), up. This puts it in a gap, and lets you reach another candle thing to light. Grab the nearby chest containing a Stilett, a weapon for Kratos. Use the newly raised platform to go up some stairs. Grab the Circlet in a chest a short way up, then use your Memory Gem to activate the save point by the warp. Use it. -NOW, if you wish, go and fight the Fake (the chest I told you not to open). This enemy can't be hurt by physical attacks. That means that Lloyd is useless, you MUST make Genius and Kratos use Spells. If you win, you get an All Divide. Don't ever use this item until I say to, or you're horribly losing a battle and didn't save recently and it's an emergency. There are a few in the game, all from Fakes I believe, and they will save you from some very bad situations later. -All Divides reduce all damage done in battle, both to you and by you by 1/2. Healing still has its full effect however. This is your best chance to survive the fight against the optional boss Abicion. -Return to the save point and warp, if you left them. Now use the warp to go to the fuuin (seal). You must fight Ktugha, and Ktugha Born x2. Be careful, the Ktugha Born use Fireball, and Ktugha has several multi- hit attacks. Most threatening is probably his Eruption spell. If you see him start it, try using suigojin to protect yourself. You may either go after the Ktugha Born first, or Ktugha, but Ktugha does more damage. If you have trouble, try adding Refill to your party, and repeatedly making Genius and Kratos use Aqua Edge or, if you have it, Icicle. -After the battle, Efreet seems to be prevented from appearing, and instead you encounter Remiel again. Multi-colored lights shoot into Collet, and she gains wings. She also learns Angel Feather, her first skill that's actually useful to you. Save once more, then leave the dungeon. ______________________________________________________________________ ---11. Field--- フィルド -Collet is ill from what just happened, so your party camps to rest. Talk to everyone, ending with Collet. Talk to her a second time, and she ditches you to go for a walk. You quickly learn that she's lying about feeling better. After returning to the field map you should have a Skit waiting in the lower-left telling you to go to Palmacosta. But first let's return to Triett. ______________________________________________________________________ ---12. Flower of the Desert: Triet--- トリエット -Dialogue scene. Refill gains another title. Stay the night at the inn for an interesting scene. -Exit to the field map, and go far East, to Ossa Trail. ______________________________________________________________________ ---13. Ossa Trail--- オサ -Go ahead a little, to encounter a ninja who is after Collet's life. She is accidentally thwarted by a lever and hole in the ground. Collet worries about the Ninja, wondering if she died. Genius confuses Lloyd with math, but reassures her that the ninja is probably alive. -Head up the path now, and to the next screen. On the next screen, just follow the path again. I know it sounds lazy, but the path is extremely linear. Make sure to grab the Battle Staff (weapon for Refill) on your way up. Continue to the next screen. This one takes you to the top of the trail, where you will find a save point, and chests with a Mix Gummy, and an Apple Gummy. Then just head right, and down the other side of the pass. It is every bit as linear as the way up. If your characters learn any important skills or anything on the way down, go back up and save, there's a boss at the base of this path. Get an Orange Gummy from a chest part-way down. At the bottom you meet the Ninja again. Collet is happy to see her alive. --BOSS: CLUMSY ASSASSIN -HP: 1,600 -EXP: 200 -Gald: 128 -Items: Holy Bottle -Note: Summoned companion, Guardian: Wind, also fights. -You can go in the cave the ninja came out of, but first go to the field map and save (exit down from where you are now). Kratos tells Lloyd that he is not alone, and Unison Attacks are activated. After saving, return to Ossa Trail, and go in the cave the ninja broke out of. You can explore the cave for some items, but the only things of true importance at straight ahead, on the next screen. There is an enemy here that won't attack you until you talk to it. Grab the chests behind it, then leave. At this point in the game you WILL lose against this enemy. Come back and fight him later, much later. You can't wait too long, or he'll disappear, but you should be able to beat him right after the wind fuuin. Exit to the field map again, and go south-east to a village, Izoold. ===IMPORTANT: DO NOT GO NORTH. From what i've seen, and had happen to me myself, if you partake in some events involving the Wind Fuuin, you will permanently prevent yourself from reaching the Water Fuuin. You MUST go to Izoold now, and Palmacosta. I've heard of a way to still get through without having to restart if you do go to Ascard and such first, but I've never found a way. If anyone knows of a solution, or if this has been fixed for the US version, please contact me immediately. ==From: TechnoJihad It turns out that if you progrss forward (in the US version) complete the Wind temple, the Tower of Mana, and the Ascard Ranch you can take Sheena the summoner to the pool with the unicorn in it. There she reveals herself as a summoner and explains she needs a pact with a water elemental. Kratos suggests that if Efreet was released at the fire temple it would be logical to assume that Undine would be released at the water temple. Upon retuning to Izoold the quest parameters suddenly opened to me and I was on my way towards the water temple story arc. === ______________________________________________________________________ ---14. Small Fishing Harbor: Izoold--- イズールド -The first house is an inn. Use it if needed. -Go into the second house, it's a little ways back. In here, talk to the girl (not the old lady, the one closer to the door). This is Lilah, and she's important to getting your party to Palmacosta. Head to the port, and a little girl there will fill you in on the situation with Max and Lilah. Talk to people here, particularly, talk to Max a couple times. He's the guy in blue pants and a brown shirt, standing by his boat and some crates. I'm not sure who all you actually MUST talk to, so just talk to everyone you can a few times until you get an actual dialogue scene when you go back and talk with Lilah. She'll run off to the port, so follow her, to Max. After another dialogue scene, talk to Max to go to Palmacosta by boat. ______________________________________________________________________ ---15. Port City: Palmacosta--- パルマコスタ 「ドアさま!」 -Head down, and left, to enter the area of town with a large number of shops. Of particular interest should be the Weapon and Armor shops. Buy what you want, but make sure to save 1,000 Gald to make the next event easier. -Leave the docks, and as you're walking along an event will occur where another group of people drops and breaks their Palmacosta Wine, and blames your party. Go across the little bridge, and into the second building for a scene. In this store, buy Palmacosta Wine (top option, パルマコスタワイン, 1000 Gald). Return to the other party, give them the Wine, and they're leave, allowing you do so as well. But, we don't want to leave yet. Note: In the US version, Palmacosta Wine has been changed to Palma Potion. -_- -Head right, onto the second map of Palmacosta, to see an event between a child and umm... Door. It's the guy's name, not a thing, don't ask me why his parents hated him so much, I don't know. If you go into the large building on the right, the church I believe, you'll have a conversation with March. Afterward, go into the large building on the left, run in just a few steps, and you'll talk to Door. -After that event, you're finally ready to leave Palmacosta. If you feel that you need to level up more, or need gald, now would be a good time to go fight things. Among the shops at the docks is a Customize shop, where you can have a Masamune made for Lloyd. the NPC two to the right sells the needed Rapier, if you don't have one, and the Customize guy sells the other required ingredient for 10 GRADE. -Buy any items you need before you go to Hakonesia, when you return, you may find it difficult to obtain some. ______________________________________________________________________ ---16. Nova's Caravan--- ノヴァ -While you're out here, head east, and in a small forest you'll run into Nova's Caravan. First some conversation, then talk to everyone. ______________________________________________________________________ ---17. Hakonesia Peak--- ハコネシア -When you're ready, head North-east to Hakonesia Peak. My levels are higher from EXP*2, but somewhere in the near-ish future Kratos should get Lightning. (Genius as well). Lloyd's Kogahazan + Genius or Kratos' Lightning results in a nice Unison Attack, Shuushouraizan. Anyway, Hakonesia is extremely far North, but hard to miss, it's a pass through the mountains. The monument to enable Long Mode in this area is farther east, on a peninsula. There's another in the mountains far South-west, that enables it for the rest of this continent, and Thoda. -Enter Hakonesia, and go in the only house there, and talk to the only person there. Make sure to remember him, this is Cotton, and his name will pop up again if I ever add how to get the Darkness Weapons. -After you talk to him, exit for, surprise, more dialogue! Once that's over, if you stand around long enough, a Z-button dialogue will come up, and it tells you to return to Palmacosta. ______________________________________________________________________ ---18. Port City: Palmacosta--- パルマコスタ 「どけ!マグニスさまがお出ましだ」 -Return to Palmacosta, and head to the docks. Notice anything missing? (or rather, anyone?). Head to the area with the church, Door's place, etc. for an event, and a battle. ______________________________________________________________________ ---19. House of Salvation 2--- -Head north, as if you were going to Hakonesia, but stop in the small house thing along the way. At the crossroads there, you'll be given a message from Door. Head inside, and you'll encounter a familiar person, who introduces herself as Shihna. -Leave, and head east. Just around the mountain is the Palmacosta Human Ranch. ______________________________________________________________________ ---20. Palmacosta Human Ranch--- パルマコスタ人間牧場 -Head up, and you'll encounter Neal, from Door's place. You will be given a choice. Which option you choose determines the order in which some upcoming events (boss battles) occur. I reccomend, and this guide will follow, the top option, simply because it gives you more time to fight and level before encountering any bosses. -Head up, and into the Ranch. The pedestal in front of you when you enter will change the function of your Sorcerer's Ring. -Go right, and in this room, use your Sorcerer's ring to make an orb come up from the nearby pedestal. Use this to make a bridge appear, and go right, to a machine that refreshes your HP/TP. Make sure to remember where this is. Kill the enemy near it, to get a Purple Card. -Use the Sorcerer's Ring to make a bridge going up, and then use it again to make a sparkle appear. Assuming your inventory isn't full of them, you'll get a Life Bottle. Before you head back, let's get some items. All of these are sparkles, like the life bottle. Near the Refresh machine is an Orange Gummy, and near the first pedestal are an Ank Shield (for Kratos), and the item needed to make a Rapier into a Masamune, if you haven't already. -This time, exit the main room to the left. Remember to kill enemies for items like Memory Gems. A sparkle just inside is an Apple Gummy. When the path splits, head up, for sparkles containing another Orange Gummy and Life Bottle. -Now go down, and right, to find another Life Bottle. If you try to take the path down, Lloyd won't let you. This is an exit. Return to the central room, and use the Sorcerer's Ring to activate the Warp. -Just up from where you appear is a save point, and you may want to use it. Remember though, that you can't leave until you fight Magnis. -Head right from the save point, to appear in the upper part of the room with the bridges. Using the Sorcerer's Ring makes blocks appear. You may have seen the gaps in a path earlier. 2+2 = move the blocks. Also note that the center of where you're moving them to has a sparkle containing an EX Gem LV2. Use this on Lloyd, and give him the skill Personal (bottom option, パーソナル) to run faster in dungeons. Since this area is a dungeon, you will immediately see the difference. You should have seen a sparkle inside one of the blocks. well, it was actually more like under it. Go back up there and get it to get a Mage Cloak. (Genius) -Instead of using the path you just made with blocks, go right and use the pedestal to make a bridge, and here, go down some stairs. You see a machine, but you can't reach it. Collet will fly up, and you get a Red Card. Deactivate the bridge you made. If you haven't noticed, when you make bridges, the central spiral disappears, but it comes back when you deactivate them. Head back left to the save point -Now go left, to encounter some humans in storage. You will release them, and get a Blue Card. Exit the way you came in, back to the save point. -This time, head up and activate the warp. Since you have the three cards, it works. This part is a little maze. Some warps are two-way, some are one-way. There are some generic gummies and another life bottle, but assuming you've been to a store in the last three hours of gameplay, you probably don't need them. If you need another Apple and Orange Gummy, you'll have to go exploring on your own, i'll just explain how to get to the boss, and any particularly useful items -First though, use the Sorcerer's Ring here to get a sparkle to appear containing a Mix Gummy. Then take the left warp. In this area, take the top warp. This will take you to the spiral from earlier, there's a Panacea Bottle at the top, again in a sparkle. Now go down, warp back to the maze. Take the bottom warp, then the left one. Don't touch the sparkle, it'll activate an alarm and cause a fight. In the next area, take the top warp, then left, then top once more, and finally, one last left. -If you got lost, reload a save from the save point, and go to the first room of the maze. Take the warps in the following order to get to the boss without any items: left, left, top, left, top, left. -You'll have a short fight to rescue Shocola. Use the save point on the right, then follow her. Use the top warp, to go to Magnis. You'll have a lot of talking, and then a regular fight. Afterward, Magnis attacks. Since I now have the Japanese guide, so access to more information, here's some boss info. Name, HP, EXP, gald, items, are all from the guide. Attacks are noteworthy skills that I have noticed while fighting him. Basically, stuff to watch out for. --BOSS: MAGNIS -HP: 8500 -EXP: 675 -Gald: 1700 -Item: フィートシンボル, EX Gem LV1 -Attacks: Eruption, Flame Lance -Advice: Use items to keep TP up, don't let Genius, Refill, or Collet, whoever is with you, run in close to try to get TP back. If anyone dies, use a Life Bottle immediately. Magnis' Eruption is hard to interrupt, use Shishisenkou. He can use it on you as well, however. If he goes into Overlimit, avoid him altogether. Use Unison attacks at every opportunity, on Magnis, not his minions. Even with my EXP multiplied by 2, my levels around 20, Magnis was not easy. -Side note: Make sure to have Kratos and Genius use lower level magic spells. Lightning must be used 50 times to get Thunder Blade, Wind Cutter 50 times to get Air Thrust, for example. -First, go back to the House of Salvation, and rest. There will be a boss fight in Palmacosta, and it's a cheap place to do so. Now return to Palmacosta. ______________________________________________________________________ ---21. Port City: Palmacosta--- パルマコスタ -Do any necessary shopping, then go to Door's place, and head downstairs. --BOSS: KIRIA -HP: 10000 -EXP: 500 -Gald: 500 -Item: Heal Bangle -Attacks: Acid Rain, Dark Sphere -Advice: This shouldn't be too bad. She has a lot of HP, but she's not as much a threat as Magnis was. ______________________________________________________________________ ---22. Thoda Geyser Pleasure Boat--- ソダ -Head South-East from where the Human Farm used to be, to find the Thoda Geyser Pleasure Boat. Talk to the woman inside to buy a boat ride to Thoda Geyser for 200 Gald. ______________________________________________________________________ ---23. Thoda Geyser--- ソダ -Head over right, examine a pedestal, make a bridge, seen an event. Difficult, wasn't it? ______________________________________________________________________ ---24. Thoda Geyser Temple--- ソダ -At first, just follow the path. Until you get to the bottom of the stairs, there's really not much choice in where to go anyway. Items in this dungeon are in chests, so you don't have to screw with invisible sparkles. -At the bottom of the stairs, go right to change your Sorcerer's Ring again, and get a Circlet and a Life Bottle from chests. Of the two bottom paths, take the right-hand one. -Follow this path, grabbing chests along the way, until it goes down some stairs, and loops back left. Right after you change screens, there is a block next to you. Push it toward the way you came until you hear a click. Now return to the room where you changed your Sorcerer's Ring. Actually, stop by and change it back to fire. Now take the other exit (left). -Head left, and light the two torches (they're next to stone slabs with a fire symbol on them). Now go change your ring to water, and shoot the bottle on the right weight, between the toches. A door tries to close, but the block you moved earlier prevents it. -Now go back down, and through that door. Here, use water on a bottle again, just like above, and a platform will rise. -Go to the upper level, toward the platform. If you go down, rather than left, you can find a point to use a Memory Gem to make a Save Point appear. Use this, there's a boss coming up. Speaking of boss preparations, make sure Lloyd has the level 1 EX Skill Appeal アピール and the level 2 EX skill Personal パーソナル. This combine to make an extra EX skill, Lucky Unison, that will let you sometimes do a Unison Attack without draining the bar. Anyway, go left, use the warp, when ready. -Upon warping, you get a vaguely familiar series of events. Collet must be in your party for this fight. --BOSS: NODYS -HP: 10000 -EXP: 825 -Gald: 765 -Item: [I can't translate] -Attacks: Spread, Aqua Laser -Advice: Nodys is water, and ice element. Disable any spells of those elements, but encourage Lightning, Thunder Blade, etc. If you're using the Shuusouraizan Unison Attack I mentioned earlier, you're well set. After the battle, you will get a brief glimpse of Undine, before Remiel interferes. When the event is done, Collet will gain.... well, nothing. Finish this anticlimactic occurance by leaving the dungeon. ______________________________________________________________________ ---25. Hakonesia Peak--- ハコネシア -Return to the main continent the same way you came, and then head to Hakonesia again. You will be allowed to pass now, which means you can now go all the way back to Iselia, if you so desire. While we're on the subject, remember that Sword Dancer back in Ossa Trail I told you you couldn't beat? You might stand a chance now if you want to go try, but don't wait too long. He disappears soon, and the next fuuin is the wind one, that I mentioned. You can still fight him after, but I reccomend taking this time to level up a bit and try it. Your rewards for fighting the first two Sword Dancers won't be much, but the third gives you the Kusanagi. Good sword for Lloyd, especially if you can't beat Abicion. -If you can get to it, around level 25 is a good time to go back and kill the Sword Dancer. ______________________________________________________________________ ---26. Town of Relics: Ascard--- アスカード -From where you exit Hakonesia, go West, and just around a hill is Ascard. However, make a save point outside Ascard. Under absolutely NO circumstances should so save inside Ascard until I tell you to. -Anyway, enter Ascard, and head back to the obvious temple. Walk up the stairs, and Refill's curiousity takes over. When you gain the ability to control Lloyd again (you'll know it when Refill's babbling starts scrolling without you pressing anything), head around behind the stone slab. -Once the event finally ends, head down a little and right, to another map of Ascard. A house on the middle level contains the people from the previous events. After speaking with them, return to the large stone slab. During this event, you'll be required to add Refill to your party, if she isn't already in it. There is a boss fight coming up, and that's why I told you not to save. You can get stuck in Ascard until you beat the boss, and if you aren't strong enough, that means restarting the game. --BOSS: TSATOG -HP: 10000 -EXP: 1325 -Gald: 800 -Element: Wind (don't use wind spells!) -Attacks: -Advice: As I said with element, DON'T USE WIND SPELLS. Disable Wind Cutter, and Air Thrust, ASAP. Other than that umm... fight him. I was level 25, from EXP*2 and all, so I had no trouble at all. Refill and Kratos both have First Aid, and if you've gotten Kratos Air Thrust, he may have Heal Wind. So you shouldn't have too much trouble staying alive. Tsatog drops the item needed to enter Balacruf, and a Talisman -Now you may save, if you so desire. Return to the house of the people who tried to blow up the stone slab, to regain Refill, and then leave Ascard, after any shopping you may need to do. ______________________________________________________________________ ---27. Balacruf Royal Tomb--- バラクラフ王廟 -From Ascard, head far East, to a bridge. Cross it, and on this island and/or peninsula, you will find Balacruf Royal Tomb nestled within some mountains. Enter for another dialogue event. -First head left and open a chest for 1800 Gald. Then head up the stairs to have Collete open the door. There will be two boss fights in here. -Enter. After the dialogue ends, head right to find a chest with a customize item in it, and a memory gem usage spot. Note the torch, and the wind blowing into it. Head left (watch out for spikes) to find the source of the wind.go up the stairs here, and push the nearby block down. See that raised up square in the path of the wind? Move the block there. Go back to the torch, and notice that your Sorcerer's ring will light in. This is the basis of this dungeon's puzzles. Note that when you light a torch, nearby portions of the wall can now be examined for various details.... not that I know what they are. -Now go left, but this time stop at the path going up with spikes on the sides. At the end of this path is another torch, and more wind. Go left, up the stairs, and follow this path past more spikes. Note that all you have to do to open the door is light the torches in front of it. First go right, down, and right again, to grab some items from chests in the area. You can use a block to block off two more wind gusts, allowing you to light any torch. -Change your Sorcerer's ring to Wind at the pedestal, then go through the door you hopefully opened. In this room are multicolored fans. There are three orders to shoot them with wind in. Shooting them with wind either makes them start or stop spinning, depending on what they're already doing. -To get the Blue Ribbon on the left, do this order Blue -> Red -> Yellow -> White -> Green -To get the EX Gem level 2 on the right, do this order Red -> Green -> Yellow -> White -> Blue -To open the door and proceed to the boss, do this order Red -> Yellow -> Green -> White -> Blue Once you've done the third combination, you can open the door. --BOSS: HASTARL -HP: 14000 -EXP: 1325 -Gald: 2000 -Element: Wind, Thunder -Item: Paralyze Check, Mental Bangle -Attacks: Feather Shot -Advice: Not that hard of a fight, really. Lay into Hastarl with anything you have that's not wind or thunder element (remember to disable Genius and Kratos' spells as needed). But remember, since this is my second play, i'm rather over-levelled for the fight. Still, if you levelled to around 25 and fought the Sword Dancer (which is worth it), you'll have no trouble. Once you're done, say hello to Remiel again. From this, Collete gains Holy Song. -Leave Balacruf. Well, try to. Near the entrance you'll encounter Shihna again. And fight, again. --BOSS: RESOLUTE ASSASSIN -HP: 4500 -EXP: 300 -Gald: 450 -Item: Dark Bottle -Attacks: -Advice: The usual. Shihna has a friend, so fight 'em both. You may want to take her on directly with Lloyd, so she doesn't go after Collete. Her ally is a Guardian: Lightning this time. Once that's over with, leave Balacruf. -There will be another campfire event, some important matters with Collete, and her lack of feeling. Lloyd gives her a cup, and tells her it's Hot Coffe, and comments on how it's hot. She agrees with him, and then he reveals that it's Iced Coffee. Once the event ends, leave and head back toward Ascard. But this time, follow the path Northwest, to Luin. ______________________________________________________________________ ---28. The City of Devastation: Luin--- ルイン -You will notice, as soon as you enter.... that Luin is... Ruined. The Japanese name could be translated as Luin or Ruin. I prefer Ruin myself, for obvious reasons, but the guide says Luin, so that's what i'll use. You must take a roundabout path, but find your way to the next screen, to talk to Shihna, if you entered from the Ascard side. Afterward, Shihna will join your party. At this point I like to kick Collete out, in favor of Shihna. Leave Luin to the Ascard side, and go northeast to find the Ascard Human Ranch. ______________________________________________________________________ ---29. Ascard Human Ranch--- アスカード人間牧場 -As soon as you enter there's some dialogue, then a fight, then yet another campfire. Shihna and Refill disguise themselves, then you return to the Human Ranch. Head inside, then go through the NW door. Here you see another event. During this, you'll meet Kuval. -Once the event finally ends, you're in the next room. Grab the White Robe from the chest near you, then go down. Get the Iron Brace from the other chest, then continue to follow the path. Another event will occur, and via Shihna, you'll escape. ______________________________________________________________________ ---30. The City of Devastation: Luin--- ルイン -When you attempt to enter Luin, you'll get another campfire event. -Afterward, leave Luin, and get ready for trip. Head west, and south around the mountains, to Haima. ______________________________________________________________________ ---31. Adventurers' Meeting Village: Haima--- ハイマ -Just past the first house is a merchant, if you need items. He can also customize some nice weapons, if you have the ingredients. -Our objective here though, is inside the first house itself. Go inside and talk to Sophia, the woman on the stairs. -Exit the house and start to go up the hill behind it for more dialogue. After this, return to the Ascard Human Ranch. ______________________________________________________________________ ---32. Ascard Human Ranch--- アスカード人間牧場 -Examine the rock right near the entrance to enter the ranch. After a fight and an event, you must split into two parties of three. If you intend to reclaim Kratos after later events, PUT HIM IN YOUR MAIN PARTY. Failing to do so lowers how much he likes Lloyd significantly. Your main party will fight Kuval, and he is NOT an easy boss, so pick your best. Lloyd and Kratos are a given, so probably bring Refill (healing) or Genius (damage) -With your main party, go through the door to your left. After getting the chests, examine the machine on the far left, and choose Shutdown (the middle option). Now go back right, then go through the lower door, like last time. Change your Sorcerer's Ring, then use it to destroy the six generators in the center of the room. Now go up on the left side, past where the event happened last time, to get an EX gem level 2 from a chest, then go through the door. Attempt to use the warp, and you'll switch to your secondary party. -Make whoever is the strongest melee (Shihna in my case) the character you control, then exit to the SE. If you're using Shihna, note that her two-word skill with the kanji 召 in it will summon Corrine, for decent damage. It's slow to cast though. Another of Shihna's skills, 生吸符 drains HP. After the fight, exit to the south. By moving boxes out here, you can find another entrance into the ranch. Once inside, first go down to the left, then up the center path. After the event, exit right. Stand on the panel, and hit A. Then go back left, down, then right and up. Now you can get to the enemy on the other panel, since you moved the door. Move toward this enemy to fight it, and you'll automatically activate the panel. -Now go back up the central path, and repeat for the left side. You will automatically switch back to your main party. Use the save point, then warp. --BOSS: KUVAL -HP: 10000 -EXP: 1680 -Gald: 1500 -Element: Thunder -Item: Holy Ring, EX Gem Lv 1 -Attacks: Spark Web -Advice: This battle is extremely dangerous, both Kuval and the other enemies (Energyston) have multi-hit thunder attacks. If Kuval gets knocked down, or goes into overlimits, back off, he's too powerful. My characters were near level 30, and still Lloyd died twice from the massive number of times he was being hit. ______________________________________________________________________ ---33. Town of Relics: Ascard--- アスカード -After yet another human ranch explodes, you end up in Ascard. Once the dialogue is over, head for Haima. ______________________________________________________________________ ---34. Adventurers' Meeting Village: Haima--- ハイマ -Head down in front of the house for an event, and you'll gain an item that will let you enter the Tower of Mana. Head up the mountain, all the way this time, to see a tower off in the distance. Not the one we're going to yet, but note the size of it. ______________________________________________________________________ ---35. Tower of Mana--- マナ -The Tower of Mana is, on the map, the dot due north of Luin. It's hard to miss, as it IS rather tall. Once there, enter the tower. -You must leave three members at the entrance, and Collete must come with you, so take Kratos along. Head up the spiral path, grabbing the chest at the top on the way. In the next room, run up and fry the curtains with your Sorcerer's ring. Then move the block so that it reflects the light left and right, to open the door. Go left. Examine the machine, and you'll regain control of your other party. Since we left Refill behind, use her to examine the back left bookcase. -Now with your second party, go up, and fry the curtains on the left. Move the block so that it reflects the light up to the door, and exit north. -First, go left and burn the curtains to let light in. Now take the block shaped with a mirror like / and move it up into the light, to reflect it north. (this block is just right of the stairs). Now take the block to the left of the stairs, and push it far up. The light we reflected with the first block is going through an orb, and into another block. Move that block away, and place the \ block in its place, to send the light to the left. Grab the chests while you're up here. Push the other / reflecting block up into the light, to send it down. then move the /\ block down into that light, to reflect it into both of the remaining orbs. Now exit north. -Grab another chest, then go right, then down. Now go up the spiral stairs. (use an EX gem level 2 to give Shihna her personal, this makes you sometimes avoid encounters in dungeons, instead just walking through the enemy). Head up at the top of the stairs, then left. -Grab the chests, then go left across the path of light. You'll switch back to Lloyd. Head left, and follow the path until you meet up with your second party again. Use the warp when you're ready, and it's time for another boss. Like all fuuin so far, you're forced to use Collete. --BOSS: AZATL -HP: 16800 -EXP: 2650 -Gald: 2500 -Element: Fire, Thunder, Light -Attacks: -Advice: Actually... This was an extremely easy fight for me on this play, so I don't know what to tell you. Azatl isn't as hard as he looks, really. After the fight, Luna will appear, as Remiel cannot hold her back it seems. She simply asks where Aska is, then disappears on her own though. Afterward, Remiel will appear, and talk to Collete. Now simply leave the tower. ______________________________________________________________________ ---36. Lake Umacy--- ユウマシ -Umacy is the dot on the map east of Luin. When you enter, there will be an event involving a unicorn. Afterward, it's time to return to Thoda Geyser, the temple rather. To get your first Seirei, Undine. ______________________________________________________________________ ---37. Thoda Geyser--- ソダ -Just go to the fuuin, where you fought Nodys and Collete talked to Remiel. You should know the way to Thoda, through Hakonesia, then the boats, the path to the fuuin is still open from your first time here. --BOSS: UNDINE -HP: 13000 -EXP: 2110 -Gald: 765 -Element: Water, Ice -Item: Protect Symbol, Aquamarine -Attacks: Spread, Aqua Edge -Advice: Like any good summon, she's the embodiement of the element of water, so she uses many powerful water spells. She can be hard, but you should be able to defeat her. On an unrelated note, enjoy the music that plays during this battle, Fighting of the Spirits. You may want to bring Refill instead of Kratos, Undine is VERY happy to use Spread repeatedly. =====OPTIONAL (for now)===== You can also get Sylph (in Balacruf) and Efreet (in Triet Relic) now. You do not have to get them now, but you DO have to get them. I will not remind you later. ==SYLPH BOSS: Sephy HP: 13000 BOSS: Yutice HP: 12000 BOSS: Fiales HP: 10000 EXP: 6940 Gald: 6330 Element: Wind Items: Sage, Savory, Opal, Saffron ==EFREET HP: 30000 EXP: 3120 Gald: 5690 Element: Fire *Note: The ability to give a weapon the fire element that Shihna gets from Efreet turns Lloyd's Hitenshouku (lv 40) into Hououtenkuu. ______________________________________________________________________ ---38. Lake Umacy--- ユウマシ Anyway, when you're ready, return to Umacy. As a result of the event, Refill learns Raise Dead and gains the title Healer. ______________________________________________________________________ ---39. Adventurers' Meeting Village: Haima--- ハイマ -Return to Haima, go in the first house, and go in the room upstairs. -Once that event finishes, go up to the top of the hill. -When you're ready to go, talk to Collete, and choose the lower option. -Lloyd will notice Kratos get up, resulting in ANOTHER event. -Now head up to the top of the hill again, to get rides to the Tower of Salvation. ______________________________________________________________________ ---40. Tower of Salvation--- -If you get lost here, stop playing, immediately. Seriously, this area is literally a straight line to the bosses. --BOSS: REMIEL -HP: 16000 -EXP: 2795 -Gald: 1840 -Element: Light beat him, and then fight ===BOSS: KRATOS ==HP: 22500 ==EXP: 3280 ==Gald: 2900 ==YOU CAN LOSE TO KRATOS WITHOUT GETTING A GAME OVER, but beat him and you get an EX gem level 3. Regardless of the outcome of your fight with Kratos, Yggdrasil will show up and eliminate you. ______________________________________________________________________ ---41. Sylvarant Base--- シルヴァラントベース -Once the dialogue finally ends.... -Head right, up, and right once more. The machine next to you in the next screen sells items, restock as needed. -In the next area, first line up the two wooden blocks so that you can get to the metal box. You can use them to make a path to chests, if desired. To proceed, line the wooden boxes up vertically on the platform (right half), then put the metal box on the blue square on the ground. -Now go downstairs, and use the switch (to the left) to bring down the platform with the boxes. Cross the boxxes, and shoot the spinning thing there with your changed Sorcerer's ring, then activate the machine above it to drain the water. Then go push the metal box here down, then push it onto a blue panel also. Shoot the spinning device there, then exit south. -More dialogue, the nexit left then north. ANOTHER event gets you the Rhea-Birds. Well, for a time. They get you to Tethe'Alla, then break down. ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ -----Part 2: Tethe'Alla to Disc 2----- ---1. Fooji Mountains--- フウジ -Fortunately, you survive your crash into Fooji Mountains. -Head downhill (as if you had much choice) -Once on the field map, head north. ______________________________________________________________________ ---2. Sovereign Capital: Meltokio--- メルトキオ -Meltokio is kinda hard to miss, it's nearly due north, and looks like a large city. Enter. -In the event, Shihna temporarily leaves your party. Head in a little farther for some animal abuse. To the left is an item shop, you can now buy Lemon Gummies (60% HP recovery) and Pine Gummies (60% TP). First you may want to look into equipment though, so head up the main stairs. In the event here you meet Tethe'Alla's Miko.... it's the guy. Really, he's a guy, I promise. Once he leaves, go left, for the weapon and customize shops. When you're done, head back adn go right, to find the armor shop. You can very easily bankrupt yourself on weapons and armor here, which is why I suggest getting them before items, so you can be well-equipped. -Now go back, and continue up the next set of stairs. Approach the large door straight ahead for a short event. Now go down a little and go in the door to the left. Talk to the priest straight ahead to meet Presea. Once this is done, leave, and follow Presea up to the door. -You'll enter the castle, and Presea will join your party. Head left to the next screen, and then up the stairs, fully, before going right again. Here, try to go in the door for a long event. Once it's over, leave the castle and go back to the Church on the left, and talk to Zelos (the miko) who will also join you. He's essentially a Kratos clone, as far as combat capabilities, but if you talk to female NPCs with him as your field character (the one with the flag, who you see on the maps, set by hitting A on them in the menu), they'll give you items or Gald. -Anyway, when you're done shopping (and flirting, in Zelos's case), exit, and go to the gigantic bridge to the north. ______________________________________________________________________ ---3. Grand Tethe'alla Bridge--- グランテセアラブリッジ -Cross the bridge. It's long (7 screens I think) but it WILL end eventually. When you're done, head north again, to Sybak. ______________________________________________________________________ ---4. Academy Town: Sybak--- サイバック -Head left, to the second screen, and enter the building here for another event. Once it's done, leave the academy, and talk to the guy next to the weapon shop. Then try to return to the academy, but the door is blocked. Talk to the person blocking it, then go in. Head left and into the second door in this hallway for yet another event. Then go back right, to the entrance, for another event. Refill and Genius are arrested for being Half Elves, and Shihna returns. You are shown a secret path out of the academy, so take it, and head back to the Grand Tethe'alla Bridge. ______________________________________________________________________ ---5. Grand Tethe'alla Bridge--- グランドテセアラブリッジ -When you reach the Meltokio side of the bridge, you catch up to the the guards, and fight them to save Refill and Genius. -Afterward, return to Fooji Mountains. ______________________________________________________________________ ---6. Fooji Mountains--- フウジ -Head back up to the top of the mountains, where you first landed in Tethe'alla. Build up your Unison Attack gauge on the way up, there's a boss fight coming. -Lots of events at the top, and then a fight. --BOSS: PRONELMA -HP: 18000 -EXP: 3000 -Gald: 1500 -Element: Dark -Item: Rosemary, EX Gem lv 2 -Attacks: Dark Sphere, Ice Tornado, Bloody Lance -Advice: Pronelma can be pretty tough, Ice Tornado isn't just multiple-hit, but it takes you airborne, so hard to dodge too. Dark Sphere is basically a dark element Photon, while Bloody Lance is a dark Holy Lance. She also has a shishisenkou-like move that will knock you down for a while, so watch out for that. ______________________________________________________________________ ---7. Meltokio Swewers--- メルトキオ -You can't enter Meltokio the normal way, so let's do the only logical thing. No, not use one of those giant spells like Thunder Blade to blast a hole in the wall, instead, let's go through the sewers. Your party takes the path left, along the wall, to the cleanest place in town. -Just follow the path, the first time it branches is at a spider web you can't cross anyway. Use the pedestal to change the function of the Sorcerer's Ring. It now shrinks you, use the blue panels to return to normal size. Your size changes ARE reflected in battle by the way. -Shrink, and you can safely cross the spider webs. Continue to follow the path in the only way it goes until you find some downward stairs. Go down them, grab the mental ring behind them, then shrink and take the very thin path. It's incomplete, so we need to find a way to fill the gap. Go back up the stairs, and follow the path to get an event. Open the chest for an EX Gem LV3. Now go up the stairs. -Activate the machine, and it will pump out a box. There are gaps in the wall of this area, so it's time to push blocks. There are three places to push one down. The second gap down on the left side, and the two gaps on the bottom side. -Go back down stairs, and you'll notice that a small path behind the stairs is now filled, so go turn the blue wheel. However, the path to the red wheel still has a gap in it. Go upstairs, and through the door the blue wheel opened. -In this next area, go left, and down the stairs. Shrink, and then ride the box. You will complete the path to the red wheel. -Now go up to the door the red wheel opened. Activate the machine, and a box pops out. You must push this block along the catwalk. How? When you get to corners, shrink, and use the spider webs to get around to the other side. When you get to the corner without a web, push the block off to the right. Now head back to the lower level of this room. Go right this time, down the stairs, and follow the path you made. Shrink to walk inside the cage, use the panel to become big, then open the door. Notice that a panel in here makes a bridge appear... -Go back to the upper level, and new webs have appeared. Make a block, and push it farther along the path. Take it up from where you pushed it off the last time, and go right, pushing the block off to the right at the end of this. -Go back to the lower level, and push the block onto the switch in the cage. Return to the upper level and make one more block. This time, take the block all the way to the end of the path, then go to the lower level once more. You should see now how to push the block one more time, to fill in a path to the yellow wheel. After doing so, head over the bridge you made appear, down the stairs, and across the small path. -Go through the yellow door, and follow the path. Due to a broken bridge, you only have one choice in what way to go. The last chest is a Fake, so don't open it unless you're confident. Remember that only magic will do much damage. And that the prize is worth it, another All Divide. -Go up the ladder at the end, and you're in Meltokio again. From now on whenever you try to enter the sewers you will be given the option to "skip" the dungeon, and just go to the other exit. ______________________________________________________________________ ---8. Sovereign Capital: Meltokio--- メルトキオ -Head around the buildings, then right, to the normal first screen of Meltokio. There, go right, and up not the stairs, but just another path, to another research location. You'll encounter someone Shihna knows, Kuchinawa. -After the event is over, leave, and head up the stairs this time, fully. To the screen with the church and castle. Once there, go right. The second umm... mansion here is Zelos's house. When you gain control make sure to go upstairs to watch Genius awkwardly attempt to flirt with Presea. Talk to the butler, Sebastian, to sleep. -When you wake up, go back to the lab from earlier for another event, in which you get the Wing Pack. -Leave the way you came in. When you examine the manhole you'll be asked if you want to skip the dungeon, choose the top option to show up outside the city gates. Head North, to the bridge, once more. ______________________________________________________________________ ---9. Grand Tethe'alla Bridge--- グランドテセアラブリッジ -Go up to the right of the blocked off bridge, for another event. Go down the stairs and talk to Kuchinawa to get your Elemental Cargo. Strange name, but it's a boat. If you're wondering where it goes in this event, it goes in the Wing Pack. This is why you were given it. -Undine puts some of her power into the Elecar, and you take off. ELEMENTAL CARGO CONTROLS: Control stick for turning, C-stick for forward/back. A is also forward. B to get off (at a dock only, you can see them on the world map). -Follow the bridge, to a dock on the other side, hit B, and then go up to Sybak. ______________________________________________________________________ ---10. Academy Town: Sybak--- サイバク -There is an event with Kratos upon entering, but no battle, luckily. -Sneak back into the academy the way you left, and talk to Kate (the woman). After the event, leave town, and go North-East, to Gaoracchia Forest. ______________________________________________________________________ ---11. Gaoracchia Forest--- ガオラキアの森 -Gaoracchia is rather large, with a good four exits, you entered from the Sybak area. If you head straight North, you'll exit to an area needed later. On the other side of the forest, where we're going, are two more exits. One to the Mizuho area, one to the Ozette area. -Change your Sorcerer's Ring. In this area, it's a flashlight..kinda. Use this to make vines in your way disappear, stand in sunlight to recharge it. You'll know the places, they're bright and sparkling. -Head right to the next map. Here, first fill your light meter in the light, and then go up and use the light to make some vines disappear to get a chest containing a Phoenix Rod. From the chest, go right to the next screen. -Go down, when you can, and first destroy some vines to get another chest, this time containing a Witch Dress. Continue down, clearing the path with your ring as needed, until you can go right again. Go over and recharge in the light, but then go back left and keep going down. Go right again, to get a Pretty Ribbon from another chest. Now go all the way back up to where you got the Witch Dress, and clear vines just above there, to exit right to the next screen. -Just inside here you'll find another chest, with an Angel Brace. Now go down just a little, and right to the next screen. -Recharge your ring, then go down, through two sets of vines. Just past the second set are some vines covering a chest. Notice that this chest is black, and you can't open it. You need the Neblim Key. This is the location of the Jaken Fafnir, a Darkness Weapon. Make sure to remember where it is. From there, keep going right until the path splits again. If you go left, you'll run into the second Sword Dancer. Like before, if you wait too long, you won't be able to kill it, but you probably can't kill it now. I think this one disappears when you go to Disc 2, but i'm not certain. Since you won't game over if you lose, feel free to try it out, then come back when you think you're strong enough. Head down the right path to continue. -Use the save point, then continue along the path --BOSS: REGAL -HP: 12000 -EXP: 2250 -Gald: 1500 -Item: Elixir -Advice: He's a strong physical attacker, so definitely make sure you have Refill or Zelos, someone who can heal well. After the battle, exit south to the Mizuho area. ______________________________________________________________________ ---12. Village of Mystery: Mizuho--- ミズホ -Head to Mizuho, it's the only village in the area. -Talk to the ninja just outside the central house to enter it. -After that event, Regal joins your party. Now, leave, and return to Gaoracchia. ______________________________________________________________________ ---13. Village of Silence: Ozette--- オゼット -In Gaoracchia, head up and right to exit again, to the Ozette area. Ozette is just across the bridge. -Head up, right, and down a path, to an event at Presea's house. After the events, leave and exit to the field from here, down and to the left. Go to Altesta's Home ______________________________________________________________________ ---14. Altesta's Home--- アルテスタの家 -Enter the house. Enjoy some events, then leave. ______________________________________________________________________ ---15. Road to the Mine--- -Next up is Toize Valley Mine... which is rather distant. Pass through Ozette, there's nothing you can do about Presea right now. Go North from Ozette to find a dock, and hit B to ride your Elecar. Go North, again, since the world IS round after all. Toize Valley Mine is on the soutehrn part of the South-eastern continent. Get off the Elecar on a dock, and walk to the mine. ______________________________________________________________________ ---16. Toize Valley Mine--- トイズバレー -Just inside you have a boss fight, already. --BOSS: GUARD SYSTEM -HP: 12000 -EXP: 2350 -Gald: 0 -There are two chests in the entry area, go back and grab them. Then proceed into the mine. Activate the nearby machine to turn on some transportation. Shoot the switch along the path with your Sorcerer's Ring to change the path, and note the door that you cannot open. -Instead, go down the elevator to the lower level. Grab the chests, they're worth it. One contains a Saint Rapier for Lloyd, while another has a Sand Saber for Zelos. -Go right, and change your Sorcerer's Ring into a Bomber Ring. Take the elevator up again, go left, and blow up the boulder. Now change your Sorcerer's ring back, jump over where the boulder used to be, and change the switch with your normal Sorcerer's Ring again. Jump over again, take the elevator, change your ring back to bombs, and then finally take a ride over to the door to the next area again. -In this room, you will find MANY more boulders, several chests, and a few more switches to activate. Activate the two switches, and blow your way to the save point, and use it. Head right from there for an.. interesting situation. A switch on the ground makes a boulder roll, and just ahead is a spinning square slab that will kinda chase you. You need to bait it up, and then get it with the boulder. When you succeed, it is crushed on the lower level. Now flip the switch on the wall to deactivate the boulder panel, and go take the elevator to the lower level. -Examine the remains of the spinning slab to get your first Darkness Weapon, the Magan Evil Eye. Now go back up and continue past where the slab originally was, and down the stairs. Head right down there, and blow up the boxes. Get the item from a chest inside them, then leave, and return to Ozette. ______________________________________________________________________ ---17. Village of Silence: Ozette--- オゼット -There'll be a battle, and then Collete is kidnapped by Rodile. -After another event, you'll be asked if you want to skip something again. Choose to (top option), and you'll automatically appear in Mizuho. ______________________________________________________________________ ---18. Village of Mystery: Mizuho--- ミズホ -Head into the center house, talk to the guy, for an event. Shihna runs out, so go find her. Once that event is over, leave Mizuho, and go to the dock north of Ozette. The Temple of Lightning is almost straight north from that dock, on an island. ______________________________________________________________________ ---19. Temple of Lightning--- 雷 -Try to avoid getting fried, it hurts. -Anyway, head up, and then take the left path, to get to a pedestal, activate the prong..thing. Do the same on the right path. Now lower the rod on the center path, and right path, and step on the switch on the center path. This clears the block, so you can take the left path to a Sorcerer's Ring pedestal. Your ring is now lightning. -Now head up the center path, and into the next room. Use your (blue) lightning ring to destroy the block blocking the door. -In the next room, head left, up the stairs, and through the door. The next room is dark, and dangerous tap A to avoid falling down, and find your way to the next door. Exit south, and activate pedestals to make platforms break under you, to fall down (make sure to destroy the blocks so you can get the chests) When you activate the last pedestal, you will change where the lightning lands, making the water below safe. Take the door to the right into another dark room, which will take you to a familiar, high-up room. You can't do anything here yet, so go to the dark room again, and intentionally fall off into a familiar room. Go up the stairs while we're here, and destroy the blue block at the top. You should notice that that stack of three colored blocks is on where Volt will appear. -Exit the same way as the first time, but this time go down into the water. Deactivate the pedestal here, just to be safe, and then go up and change your Sorcerer's Ring again. Notice that your lightning is now yellow. Go back and destroy the yellow block on Volt's altar, then the blocks blocking off a door on the left. Don't go in, but clear the blocks from the path. -Remember the switch you activated to make the lightning stop striking in the water? Now that you turned off the swith in the water, go turn off that one as well. Now go to the room with Volt's altar in it, and exit to the right, into the darkened room. Exit that through its other door, and shoot the yellow block nearby. Go back into the dark room and fall down. Then exit Volt's room north again, but this time go right. That yellow block dropped a pedestal onto the machine, so now we can activate it. -Head to the top room again, and you'll find that machine working as well. It sends a shock up the wall. You need to modify its path or you'll get shocked. Go up the stairs. all of them. Destroy the top left two blocks. Now activate the machine, and a treasure chest will drop. Go up stairs, and destroy the bottom right yellow blocks now. Activate the machine again. -The boulder crushes the bridge, giving you a nice path down to that area you couldn't reach before. Exit south and change your Sorcerer's Ring to red lightning. Now return to Volt's room. Exit left (the door that used to have yellow blocks in front of it). Make your way through the darkened room, destroy the red blocks at the top, and get the chest, containing a Power Weapon for Regal. Now return to Volt's room, go north, and save. Make sure your party is in good condition. Deactivate thunder element skills, and make sure Lloyd and Shihna are not using thunder-element weapons, then go back south, to Volt's room. -Go up top again, and destroy the red block, then activate the pedestal. Volt will appear. Volt will refuse to make a contract with Shihna. And then... well... you see. ヴォルト! おまえの力を貸せ! --BOSS: VOLT -HP: 24000 -EXP: 3580 -Gald: 2800 -Element: Thunder -Item: Emerald Ring, Sardonyx -Attacks: Spark Web. Thunder Blade, -Advice: Own him. Volt is hard, but deserving of defeat. Lay into him with whatever you have, your strongest spells, Unison attacks, etc. My level difference from EXP*2 is really spreading too far now for me to give good advice on specifics, but even I still die. Be careful. After the fight, set sail on your Elecar again. Among the snowy area in the far north-east is a dock, and at it, the Tethe'alla Base. ______________________________________________________________________ ---20. Tethe'alla Base--- テセアラベース -When the events end, exit south. You need to find three enemies that have Passcodes, before you can get through this base. -First, go right, push the block into the path of the laser, then go in the door. This enemy drops the first Passcode. write it down, then exit, and go left, back to the circular room. Go left from there this time. In this room, head up when the path splits, then left, then in the door. This enemy drops the second passcode. -Now go right from the circular room again, and this time go up when given the chance. In this room, use the block to block lasers and make your way to the NW door. Head left again, and kill the purple enemy for the last passcode. Now activate the lift (use your changed ring to give it power), and then go back to the circular room. -Go left one last time, then up. Then this time, where you went left before to get a passcode, go up instead. Go up the stairs in the next room, and push the block that you raised onto the laser machine below. -Now go back to that large room where the purple enemy was to get those two chests. They contain a Lightning Sword and a Dragon Tooth, for Zelos and Lloyd, respectively. -Now, in the room just before those chests, go up, finally. -You need to get to the top of this room, and you have to use lifts to do it. You should know how ot power a lift by now, and this isn't terribly complicated, so i'll leave it to you. When you make it to the top, you'll encounter Yuan and Borta. YUAN HP: 16000 EXP: 4890 Gald: 3150 Element: Thunder BORTA HP: 12000 EXP: 1680 Gald: 2800 Element: Earth Once you beat them, you get functional Rhea-Birds. RHEA-BIRD CONTROLS: Control Stick: turn, altitude. A: go B: land ______________________________________________________________________ ---21.1. Nest of Wyvern--- -The Nest of Wyvern isn't marked on the map, but it's roughly SE of where you appear on the Rhea-Birds, over the ocean. -There will be a fight, of course. Absolutely bring Refill with you, you need her healing capabilities. ______________________________________________________________________ ---21.2. Temple of Earth--- 地 -Right near the entrance, change your Sorcerer's Ring, now you can cause fun little earthquakes. Walk up to the rocks blocking your path, use the ring, and they're no longer blocking your path. Walk ahead a little farther for an event with a... actually i'm still not sure what those are. -Anyway, you need sake. You can buy it in Mizuho, get Bourbon in Flanoir, or go back and buy Palmacosta Wine, any of it works. Take that to the midget dude in Toize Valley mine, then return to the Temple. -Go straight, onto the next screen, to run into ANOTHER midget dude. Now you have to go to Altesta's, and talk to Tabatha (タバサ), to get the recipie for Curry Rice. Once you get it, use the food menu to make sure you have the ingredients. If you don't, go buy them. -Return to the Temple of Earth, change your ring again, and go to the hungry midget dude. You have to choose someone to make the Curry Rice, I don't think it terribly matters who. Once that event is done, you can proceed. The puzzle here is to use the Sorcerer's ring to collapse bridges. I'm only going to detail the path that gets a few nice items, there are several ways down. Break the middle portion of the bridge, to fall pretty far. Break the bridge next to you (your only option) Go left, grab the chest, then go right and collapse THAT bridge. Go right, grab the chest, then break the left portion of the bridge. Grab the chest, and break the bridge Run right, and break the last portion of bridge. -The Dragon flying around here has 10,000 HP, but drops 10,000 Gald. Remember him, as he's a pretty good money source, like all enemies, he respawns every time you re-enter the room. -Anyway, head toward the door for another midget dude event. Go through the door... and there's another midget dude. Talk to him, and now he will follow you. Don't let any enemies touch him, or get too far ahead. Head down the path next to you, until you get to a bridge. Make sure he goes through the door BEFORE you. -Go over to the bridge, and talk to him. Time your Sorcerer's Ring blasts with his jumps to collapse the bridge, then go up to Gnome's altar. --BOSS: GNOME -HP: 28000 -EXP: 5890 -Gald: 4280 -Item: Holy Symbol, Ruby -Element: Earth -Attacks: Stone Blast, Grand Dasher When the battle ends, exit. ______________________________________________________________________ ---22. Snowy Town: Flanoir--- フラノール -Here you need to... Well, actually, the important events here take place outside of Flanoir. Get in random battles until you've gotten three Penguinist Feathers 「ペンギニストフェザー」 The enemy that appears as a Penguinist just inside the Temple of Ice, or outside rather, is a fight only with Penguinists, best place to get the feathers. [In the US version, they are Penguinist Quills] -Also, make sure to talk to the guy in front of the tall reddish building on the first map of Flanoir. This is Abicion, and he should give you the Neblim Key (needed to open chests containing Darkness Weapons) and the Maken Neblim (Lloyd's Darkness Weapon). -Take the Penguinist Feathers to an old guy in front of a fireplace in town (the accessory shop, on the left), and he'll use them to make Penguinist Mittens. 「ペンギニストミトン」 -Once you have those, slap 'em on somebody, and head for the Temple of Ice. ______________________________________________________________________ ---23. Temple of Ice--- 氷 -Enter the cave, and change your Sorcerer's Ring. It now shoots little ice things. Anyway, follow the path up (literally, uphill) to an exit above where you entered. Shoot your Sorcerer's Ring at the drops of water falling from the stalactite, to form a block of ice you can go across. At the end of this is another entrance to the cave, a small ledge. Grab the Celsius's Tear, and then go back into the main area of the cave. -This time, continue right, across the frozen bridge, and down. Use the stalactite to make another block to get across, then go over and freeze the lake using the Celsius's Tear. (Your Sorcerer's Ring is insufficient to permanently freeze the lake, as you find out if you try to use it) -Super Fun Happy Ice Sliding Time... or not. You'll notice three possible places to enter the ice from the ground. Stand in front of the left-most place, and then follow these instructions (one per line to make it easier to read) ~Up ~Left ~Up ~Right ~Down ~Left Grab the treasure chest, the enter from the lowest of the three places here, going ~Right ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Right ~Up And now you're on the other side, finally. -Time for another puzzle. Press A to rotate the ice statues. To open the door.... ~Make the top statue face left ~Make the left statue face right ~Make the right statue face down ~Make the bottom statue face right Now the door opens, and you can proceed up to the shrine --BOSS: CELSIUS -HP: 18,000 -EXP: 5,120 -Gald: 5,800 -Element: Ice, Water -Items: Mental Symbol, Sapphire -Notes: Weak to fire, very fond of using techs, including the Lion variety that knock you down. If Shihna goes into overlimits, have her summon Efreet (in other words, deactivate all other summons). --BOSS: FENRIR -HP: 12,000 -EXP: 2,600 -Gald: 1,380 -Element: Ice, Water -Items: Some customize item. -Notes: Strangely, unlike Celsius, he's weak to both Fire and Thunder. When you're done, you will be taken to Ozette. ______________________________________________________________________ ---24. Altesta's Home--- アルテスタ -After the events in Ozette, head to Altesta's. Talk to him outside, then go inside and talk to him. Your party will stay the night, but Refill has vanished. ______________________________________________________________________ ---25. Ocean Pleasure Garden: Altamira--- アルタミラ -Fly southeast-ish to an island, and enter Altamira. Regal will stay outside. -Head to the grave off to the right of the main path (past the hotel). Get an event, then go take a boat thing to the Lezaleno Company. 「レラレノ・カンパニー」 -Take the elevator to the Garden in the Sky. 「空中庭園」 -Go toward the grave to stat an event. When it's done, go down to 1F. Lloyd will overhear a conversation, and this tells you where to go to next. -Return to the world map. ______________________________________________________________________ ---26. Gate of Another World--- 異界の扉 「いかい の とびら」 -Almost due east of town is a small island with the Gate of Another World on it. Think stonehenge if you're having trouble. -Enter for some events, a minor fight, and a free ride back to Sylvarant. ______________________________________________________________________ ---27. Port Town: Palmacosta--- パルマコスタ -Enter Palmacosta, and go talk to Neal. -After the conversation, go to the Palmacosta Human Ranch. ______________________________________________________________________ ---28. Palmacosta Human Ranch--- パルマコスタ人間牧場 -Ahh, if only all the ranches were this simple. Just enter, for an event with Borta and Yuan. Once the events end, talk to Borta, and hit the top option [JP: ああ、大丈夫だ]. ______________________________________________________________________ ---29. Solitary Island Human ranch--- -Borta guides you to the Solitary Island Human Ranch. This one won't be quite so simple. -Head straight (as if you have much choice), and continue straight when the screen changes. You'll come upon some panels that light or turn off when you step on them. (i.e. change to what they aren't). -To proceed: ~Step on the first panel (lit) ~Go all the way up ~Go all the way right ~All the way down ~Up to the panel you started on, then ~Right to the center panel to finish -Now head right, until you find more panels like that. -This time: ~Step onto the top of the three left-most panels. ~Go right until you hit a lit panel ~From the panel you just turned off, go all the way up ~All the way right ~Down to the next lit panel then, ~Go right fully ~Down all the way ~Left to the third lit panel then ~Down , left, and up, to the last panel that was originally lit ~From that panel, do one lap around the center blank space. This will illuminate all the panels you turned off, and the ones near them that began off. ~Once you re-light the fourth panel that was originally lit, go left entirely, then up one panel, to just below where you started. If I didn't type this out wrong, you should have lit all the panels. -Now head right again. In the next room, change your Sorcerer's Ring, and go up the elevator. Then head out the door and flip all the switches around the central prison. -Re-enter, and use the elevator to go up once more. -Here, use your Sorcerer's Ring to summon a platform. When on this platform, using the ring switches whether it will go left or right when given a choice. There's not a snowball's chance in Efreet's Fuuin that I can explain this in detail (particularly since you can't open the menu or pause in any way while on the platform), so ill just give this generic tip: Go up. -Once you find your way up, go into the room, then right to the next. -Here's another annoying puzzle that I can't really explain without a map. I'll try anyway. Here, your ring changes the color of warps. -Change the one to your right to blue, then use it. Go right, and make the warp there red, then use it. Go right, examine the machine, and get Lock 2. -Now return to the first warp, and make it red and use it. Up here, go left, and turn the warp blue. Take it to the top room. -Here, go in the green warp. Climb the stairs, check the machine, get Lock 3. Now go down, past the warp you came from, to a permanently blue warp. Use it. Then go left into a red warp. Turn the warp you come out of green, then use it. Head left to get Lock 1. Now, finally return to the top room. (If you can't remember the way, just do all the steps in this hyphen in reverse). -Use the save point, then go through the door and use the elevator. Go through the door to finally get to Rodil. --BOSS: RODIL -HP: 35,000 -EXP: 6,240 -Gald: 5,800 -Element: Earth -Items: None -After he's dead, Borta appears. Some events, and then some irked Wyverns. After the fight, you get to see Aska attack something other than your party for the first and last time. ______________________________________________________________________ ---30. Sylvarant Base--- シルヴァラントベース -When you attempt to leave Palmacosta, which i'm still not sure why you automatically went to, you'll go to the Sylvarant Base. Here, you will regain some Rhea-birds. You can now travel between Sylvarant and Tethe'alla at will by flying over the respective Base. ______________________________________________________________________ ---31. Altesta's Home--- アルテスタ -You will now automatically go to Altesta's. After the conversation here, it's time to go back to Altamira... -But first, if you still haven't, you can probably go get Efreet and Sylph now. ______________________________________________________________________ ---32. Ocean Pleasure Garden: Altamira--- アルタミラ -This time, Regal does not stay behind. Head to the Lezaleno Company for some events. Afterward, fly to the Temple of Darkness. ______________________________________________________________________ ---33. Temple of Darkness--- 闇 -When you attempt to enter here, you find that it's too dark to proceed. Leave and go to Meltokio. ______________________________________________________________________ ---34. Sovereign Capital: Meltokio--- メルトキオ -Head to the research place here, some talk about needing a Blue Candle continues, but you have to rescue Kate. This means go up and participate in the arena, which you should easily win. After you save her, you'll get a Blue Candle, and can explore the Temple of Darkness. ______________________________________________________________________ ---35. Temple of Darkness--- 闇 -Okay, I loathe this dungeon. You have to gather up little dark blob things, using your changed Sorcerer's ring to turn off lights. Overly annoying. I will ATTEMPT a walkthrough, but don't count on this being perfect. This was written AFTER clearing the dungeon, so errors may occur. The door between a red-lit block and a blob counts as the entrance for this. --BLOB WALKTHROUGH: After your first blob encounter near a light, go right and exit a small door to a staircase. About halfway down you will see a lit area. Hit A there to get a boost and enter the door. Here, change your Sorceror's Ring to shoot darkness, and shoot the red-lit block. Pull the block out as far as you can, and then return to the entrance. The block to the left is now pushed in to line up with the wall. Push it further until it stops. Now go back to the stairs, and go all the way down this time. Here, go left up the stairs and then up again immediately. Once up, go left, loop around down and across the narrow path, and get the first blob. Guide it to the area near the save point you passed on your way up. --Next, go back up and left, but instead of looping down, take the slightly lowered path, to find another block. Shoot it and push it in fully. Return down, and take the large side stairs toward the entrance again. Now the block you pushed has given you access to the second blob and a treasure chest. Guide it across the block, and --Return to the side stairs, and to the room where you changed the Sorceror's Ring. Shoot the block and pull it out again. Return to the entrance, grabbing the blob along the way, and using the Sorceror's Ring to put out the light (the blobs cannot pass through light). Grab blob 3 on the way past the block you just manipulated, and head down to green and light blue blocks. Get the 4th blob here then shoot and push in the light blue block. This will push blob 5 closer to reach (eventually). Now shoot and pull the green block. As you can see in the distance, the next set of stairs is now clear. --Remember to put out the light before passing and head left. Here, you'll find the block with blob 5 on it. Push it into the indented space slightly to the right, and then head up and around to grab the blob from equal ground. Head up and right, and put out the light at the top of the ramp. Remember to take care of the one at the bottom too, and you've now united all five blobs in one place. --Take the staircase in back behind the save point, and from here just follow the stairs until you reach Shadow's shrine. The blobs will finally become useful by joining to become Shadow, who you then fight. --BOSS: SHADOW -HP: 30,000 -EXP: 6,320 -Gald: 4,500 -Element: Darkness -Items: Dark Symbol, Amethyst ______________________________________________________________________ ---36. Linkite Tree--- リンカ -First, head to the Linkite Tree, in Sylvarant. Examine the tree -Now go to Nova's Caravan, over by Hakonesia. Talk to everyone here until you get an event involving your whole party and a long conversation. -Go talk to Dike, and get an Exsphere Shard. -Return to the Linkite Tree, and check it. Once that's all over with, go back to the Tower of Mana. ______________________________________________________________________ ---37. Tower of Mana--- マナ -This is ridiculously simple. Everything's already open, just head up to the Seal. --BOSS: LUNA -HP: 18,000 -EXP: 3,250 -Gald: 4,800 -Element: Light -Items: Moon Stone, Topaz --BOSS: ASKA -HP: 19,650 -EXP: 3,480 -Gald: 2,800 -Element: Water, Wind, Fire, Earth, Thunder, Ice, Light -Item: Rare Pellet -Advice (both): Both of them are powerful, and Aska has no elemental weakness at all. Even though you don't gain the ability to summon Aska this is essentially fighting two seirei at once. If you have too much trouble, go back out and level more. After the fight, enjoy the first anime cutscene since the Martel Shrine (and a much cooler one even) ______________________________________________________________________ ---38. Iselia Human Ranch--- イセリア人間牧場 -Notice that you cannot leave, you -MUST- continue through the Ranch. Additionally, you have both Kratos and Zelos. If you want Kratos to permanently rejoin, use him here instead of Zelos, it might help. -Go through the gate, and head down the stairs to enter this Human Ranch. Change your Sorcerer's ring to the pretty colors, and continue. -Go past the little warning sensor thing moving back and forth, for a cutscene. Afterward, you must split up your party. Top option goes with Lloyd. Bring Kratos or Zelos with you, whichever you want in the end. -Also take note, there is a LOT of treasure in this area. One outside, one near where the cutscene ends, 9 to the west path, 6 to the north. Make sure to get the chests north and to the left, one of them is a Muramasa for Lloyd, much better than the Dragon Tooth. -The left circular machine refreshes your party, the right one sells you stuff. -Head up, collect all the treasure chests, then go down and use your colorful Sorcerer's Ring to light the orbs by the door going left from where the scene ended. Avoid more HP-stealing sensors, and go through another door at the end. An event, and a fight, of course. -Afterward, go downstairs and exit right. -Explore, gather treasure. When you're ready for the boss, the path to it is the right-most one leading up. Down from that path is a save point (well, you can make one), and a door leading to the lower level of an earlier room. Grab the chest, then activate the elevator by shootin the orb. Go back to the Refresh machine, then head toward the boss. -Activate the door orbs, then take the warp at the end. Now it's time to get rid of Foshtess. --BOSS: FOSHTESS -HP: 20,000 -EXP: 7,100 -Gald: 5,800 -Element: Wind -Items: Fairy Ring You do have to kill his helper things to win, not just him. You can kill him first, but they have a tendancy to cast Wind Cutter on Genius just as he's charging a spell, and Forcefield eats up TP fast, so you may want to kill them first. -After the fight, leave the ranch. Some dialogue, and then a rather nicely done aquatic anime scene. Little more dialogue, and then... Well, you'll see. Hope you weren't particularly fond of that mountain. After the dialogue finishes, switch to disc 2 ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Hope you're switching to disc 2 about now if you plan to continue ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ -----Part 3: Disc 2 to END----- ______________________________________________________________________ ---1. The Village of Oracles: Iselia--- イセリア -After the cutscenes finish, go outside. Go toward the school to get a cutscene. After it's over, go find Refill outside her old house. Then go meet Kratos and Colett at the town's exit. ______________________________________________________________________ ---2. Dike's Home--- ダイク -You will automatically go to Dike's. Head up toward the door for a cutscene with Dike. In the process of this, Kratos leaves, and Shihna returns. -When it's all over, talk to Dike, and hit the top option. You can leave now, so let's. -While we're in the area, go into Iselia Forest. Notice that you kill anything in one hit. You can easily get GRADE this way.Keep that in mind, you'll need it later. ______________________________________________________________________ ---3. Altesta's House--- アルテスタ -Head back to Tethe'Alla and stop by Altesta's for another event. Once it's over, exit, then re-enter, and check the glowing red sphere on the table. This will take you to Toize Valley Mine. Head all the way back to the waterfall. (You should remember the way, and it's all still cleared from when you were here first) -Return to Altesta's, and talk to Mitos to start another scene. When Genius and Mitos leave, and you're given an option, hit the bottom choice to follow them. -Afterward, talk to Mitos again for a short conversation between him, Lloyd, and Genius. ______________________________________________________________________ ---4. Academy Town: Sybak--- サイバク -Now head to Sybak for an event in the library. -Then head over toward the academy, and talk to the guy by the dog. ______________________________________________________________________ ---5. Sovereign Capital: Meltokio--- メルトキオ -Head into Meltokio (still through the sewers). -Once that's over, head into the side room of the church beside the castle. -Once the events finish, go right from the bedroom, down the stairs, and in the door to the right, for another library event. -Afterward, stop by the throne room and talk to the queen again. -Exit the castle, and go right. All the way, to be exact. Then talk to the woman on the right in the right-most house. Hit the top option when you try to leave. ______________________________________________________________________ ---6. Ocean Pleasure Garden: Altamira--- アルタミラ [さよなら、あぎとうくんスペシャル] -Head to the Lezaleno Company, and take the elevator to the second option and talk to George, maybe several times. Now go to 2F for an event with Kuchinawa. -After this event, if you return to Mizuho, Shihna will fight Kuchinawa alone. You cannot leave until you do this, and you cannot fight him more than once. -Now, return to Sybak ______________________________________________________________________ ---7. Academy Town: Sybak--- サイバク -Enter the Academy for an event. Take the left door into the hallway, and go in the first door. Open the chest here to get a Zircon. ______________________________________________________________________ ---8. Yumire Forest--- ユミルの森 -Now fly to Yumire Forest. This place challenges the Temple of Darkness for sheer annoyance. Anyway, let's get started. Run up to the pedestal and change your Sorcerer's Ring to a weird noise. -Now, stand on the stump to the right, and use the ring. [JP version players: when the action command changes to のぼる you can climb whatever's in front of you) ジャンプ lets you jump] -Head right, and down, you'll find a chest you can't open. Stand on the stump with a flower, use the ring, and your problem will be solved. Now open the chest, then head straight up and open the chest hiding behind the tree. -Just below that tree, there's a bottom-level path to the left, take it and change maps. On this map, head up until you can go right, then follow the path to the bottom right corner. Climb the flowered stump here, and use your ring once more. Grab the item that falls out of the tree. There's another chest hidden behind this tree. -Now return to the Sorcerer's Ring pedestal, and check the little flower-planting area. Hit the top option to plant the blue flower. -Now go left from the pedestal, up the tree, and follow this upper path to another map. -Here, go down the tree and left, and jump onto a lilly. Use the ring to make some random fish push a chest closer to land. Find your way over to where the chest went (it's a pretty simple path actually), and open both it and the chest hidden behind the tree. -Run up and talk to the kid to progress some story, and then go back to the pedestal area, and plant the white flower. -Head back right again, and up to the second map. Once here though, take the first path left. Hop on the stump, and use your ring. -Now, go to the map with the kid, go up the tree like you were going to him. But instead of going toward the screen (the path to him), go right, and go back to the second map. Go up the tree here, jump to the white flower, and then use your ring. When you land, go right, hop on a stump with a pink flower, and use your ring again to destroy the boulder. Fly back using the white flowers again, and then return to the first map (Sorcerer's Ring pedestal). -From the pedestal, go up the tree to the right, then jump to the white flower. Use your ring to go for another trip. Use the first option here to push the box into the water, then fly back. Now go back once more, to the top area of the third map, then over into the second (i.e. where the box landed). Use the box to cross to the island and jump on the stump. Use the ring again to drop the fruit you need into the water. Now you must manipulate fish minions to get it to you. -Make your way to the lower area of the second map, which I literally just noticed you can do from the same tree that takes you left to the third map. Oops. Well, anyway, jump on the stump next to the middle tree. (the box in the water should be in the background almost right behind you when you're on the stump). Use the ring. -Having distracted THAT fish, hop off the stump, and go right to a lilly with a blue flower at the end of the path. Use the ring. -Now go to the tree next to where the fruit is now, and jump on the pedestal and use the ring. This knocks the fruit farther down. -Now hop on a blue-flower lilly on the bottom level, to the left. It's right at the start of the path right where the path splits into 3. -Now of those three paths, take the top one to the left. Jump on the lilly, use the ring, and watch the fish move the fruit. -Return to the pedestal, and go left. Don't go up the tree though, go along the wooden path in the water. It curves around a lot, but you end up at another lilly with a blue flower. -Now go to the pedestal itself, go around back, and jump on the lilly there. Grab the fruit, the ユミルの果実, that the kid wants. -This part should be obvious, but I am writing things to a GameFAQs audience, so.... Take the fruit to the kid. -Once the brat takes his fruit and leaves, exit north. ______________________________________________________________________ ---9. Hidden Village of the Elves: Heimdarr--- ヘイムダール -Welcome to Heimdarr the, guess what, hidden village of the elves. -Genius and Refill will not be allowed to enter, because just like Phantasia, these Elves are selectively racist. -Anyway, do any shopping you need to (weapons/armor on the left, items on the right of the path), then follow the path across the river, in front of an Inn. From there, go left. In this area, cross the bridge in back, and go in the house there. Talk to the elf. After the event is over, leave town. Genius and Refill will rejoin you (top option), and notice that you can now skip Yumire Forest. -Fly southeast from Yumire to find Latheon Gorge. ______________________________________________________________________ ---10. Latheon Gorge--- ラーセオン -Since you've visited the elves, you will have permission to enter Latheon. Anyway, because this place is also a little annoying, and all the chests except one only have EX gems, if you want treasure, go down any of the paths I don't tell you to go down. This guide will only cover getting through the area, and getting a Darkness Weapon. -Follow the path, going down for moment to change your Sorcerer's Ring so that it makes bubbles around you. Go up, and up to the flower, and use your ring to make a bubble. The wind the flower blows will carry you to a ledge. Go up from here, to a tree. Use this tree to get Kiruma Fruits (the top option is to take one). Go down to the dead flower and use a Kiruma Fruit on it. Get carried over by its wind, and then go right, to the next map. -Here, follow the path, but make sure to go uphill (toward the screen) early on. At the bottom of this area you can go down and get another Darkness Weapon from a chest. -Now, still on the upper level, go all the way right, grab some Kiruma Fruits from the tree, then use one on the nearby dead flower. Go back and replenish your fruits, then make a bubble in front of the first flower on this area. Since you revived the second, you'll be carried to a ledge instead of a wall. The purple-fruited tree along this path gives you Amangos. Continue up the path after that to map 3. -Here, revive both dead flowers, then get in front of the bottom flower on the right raised area. This carries you to a new ledge, and there, get in front of the nearby red flower, to be carried to the upper ledge. Revive the flower here. Then get sent back by the lower, already living, flower. Get in front of the blue/purple flower for a quick trip to map 4. -Get down to the lower level, then go down, and up to a place with two dead flowers. Revive the right-hand one, then go get carried off by the flower by where you entered this map. Give an Amango to the upper flower here to kill it, then float back using the other flower. Now go kill the flower by where you entered using an Amango, and then get carried by the wind from the first flower you revived. On this new ledge, go uphill, and revive the dead flower you see. Then go farther up hill and get carried by the flower there. -Welcome ot map 5. Get sent left by the flower next to you, then go up and get sent right by the large flower. Take another ride from a flower, right and up. Revive the flower here, then make a bubble in front of the one that was already living. Revive the flower where you land, and then enter the cave. The chest just inside is a Fake. Go all the way left, and then exit down. Revive the flower, fly right. Fly right again, and then once more. Then go uphill. -Go up the path, across a bridge, and into the house. Talk to the person in there for an event. Go down the path he opens to find another flower. Try to take it, and you'll fall to the bottom. Climb all the way back up to the top. Once there, revive both dead flowers, and get a lift from the right one. This will ultimately drop a boulder into the river. Now go back down and ride the flower again. This time you will make it to the cave. Inside, it's time for a boss. --BOSS: PLANTIX -HP: 36,000 -EXP: 7,500 -Gald: 1,250 -Element: Earth -Weakness: Fire -Items: Blue Sephira After the fight, go talk to the person in the house again. After these events, leave Latheon. ______________________________________________________________________ ---11. Southern Island's Monastery--- -While you're in the area, fly southeast some more to a monastery. Go up to the second floor and speak with Celes for an event. ______________________________________________________________________ ---12. Tower of Salvation--- 救いの塔 -Head up, and Zelos will make a bridge to the tower. This place should look pretty familiar, so I assume you can find your way. At the end there's a boss fight. --BOSS: KRATOS AURION -HP: 25,000 -EXP: 7,600 -Gald: 4,800 -Element: Thunder, Light -Items: EX Gem LV4, Treat ______________________________________________________________________ ---13. Holy City: Welgaia--- ウィルガイア -After the battle, you are in Welgaia. Attempt to warp at the stairs by the save point to the left. Collet will fly up to see what's wrong. Move the block off the warp, and then warp up with your whole party. -Instead of taking the conveyor belts, first head right a little, and into the building in back. In the left-hand room is a chest containing another, and the most commonly missed, Darkness Weapon. -Now go in the building to the right. Talk to the angel here to get a Mana Shard. Now you can take the conveyor belt path. -A short dialogue scene will show you the warp you want. However, you can't get to it, so take the other path, to the right. Go to the right on the upper level. The second to last elevator takes you to a Refresh machine, and the purple machine at the bottom of the last one provides some information. At the top of this elevator, you can shop. Also check the machine at the bottom of the second to last elevator. -Now go to the lower portion of this area, and take the ride over to the warp seen in the event. -Now it's time to escape from a part of the Tower of Salvation you've never seen before. First, head down and use the save point. Then go down the stairs, and proceed straight to a path that curves down. This path is eventually blocked at the end, so go through the door on the upper side when it shows up. You'll get a short event about the room being lacking in the gravity department. -This is another sliding puzzle. ~Right ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Right -In the next room, you'll get the Red Gate Key Lock. Grab the chest, then go back through the low-gravity room. You can now go down the path, past where it was blocked, to grab a chest. -Return to the first room of this area (the one after you went downstairs from the save point) and take a path up, and left. At the top left of this room is the Blue Gate Key Lock. Go back upstairs, and then back to the low-gravity room. This time, take this path ~Right ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Left ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Right Take the elevator. On the second room, go ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Left ~Up ~Right ~Up ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Left ~Up Go through the door. Go around right and down, and re-enter the second low-gravity room. You may not be able to see yourself behind the boxes though. Anyway, go ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Right Take the elevator. Go straight left in the next room, and once again take an elevator. In the final low-gravity room, go ~Left ~Up ~Right ~Up ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Down ~Left ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Left ~Down ~Left ~Up ~Right ~Down ~Right ~Up ~Right And through the door. Examine the machine at the end to get the Elevator Key. -Now, return to the third low-gravity room. Go to the elevator that you entered from. Take it. Here, go right, over to the elevator, but don't use it. Instead, go up, then left, to the door exiting from the first low-gravity room. -Go back to the first room, and go up again, as if you were going to the Blue Gate Key Lock. But this time, take the door on the upper- right of that path. Go straight, and examine the small black thing on the wall to the left of the door. Go in, and take the elevator. -Follow this path left and up until you get to a giant warp. Take it. -Finally, you're back in a familiar portion of the Tower of Salvation. Your characters stop to talk about the Eternal Sword, interestingly referred to as the "Maken Eternal Sword". Lloyd tries to take it, without much success, and everyone's friend Yggdrasil shows up. --BOSS: YGGDRASIL -HP: 40,000 -EXP: 3,000 -Gald: 0 -Element: Light -Weakness: Darkness -Items: None The battle ends before you kill him, so i'm not really sure why the Official Complete Guide gives an EXP number... Anyway, ______________________________________________________________________ ---14. Altesta's Home--- アルテスタ -Return to Altesta's. Actually, you're going there whether you like it or not. After the events are over, talk to the three around to cause more events. Now, you need to go to Flanoir. ______________________________________________________________________ ---15. Snowy Town: Flanoir--- ("Arasuji 132") フラノール ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~SAVE BEFORE ENTERING FLANOIR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ===Note that this is a deciding point in the story, Arasuji 132 if you have all Arasuji. This is where whether Kratos or Zelos stays with you in the end is determined. You can't do much now to change the decision though there is a small talk with Kratos SW of Flanoir. It's on the island, but you can only see the glowing circle for it when on foot. Other than that, if you can't get Kratos, you can't. (Zelos is far easier to get).=== ===Second Note: If you return to Iselia Forest from the area of Dike's House, the third and final Sword Dancer will be right in front of you. Defeat him to get the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, second best sword for Lloyd. (The best is the Maken Neblim if you beat Abicion... see below for that). This one has 99,999 HP, so I highly reccomend using an All Divide. You'll still do a lot of damage. Personally, my Shihna hit Overlimits 3 times before it hit 50,000 HP.=== -Anyway, enter Flanoir, have an event, and then go right and up for an event with Zelos. Once that's over, go inside the house. -The following event is the key point. If you want Kratos, reject all the people who ask you to walk. If you want Zelos, go with anyone. However, it is NOT guaranteed you will get Kratos if you turn all of them down, so if you can't get him, backup to an earlier save, go with anyone, and at least get a little story that way. Top option accepts, bottom option says "I'm sorry" and rejects them. -If you turn down all 3, and are able to get Kratos, you'll hear him after the third one leaves. A lot of story will ensue. Afterward, Lloyd will get a "Father's Pendant" -The story routes where you go with someone else will give you items also, but less story. -Finally, since you've been to Welgaia, you could have every Darkness Weapon now, except the Hakonesia one. If so, talk to Abicion to enable the fight. He will go to Shadow's shrine, meet him there if you want to fight and activate the Darkness Weapons. (Very good idea, the damage is somewhat based on how many enemies you've killed, and for Lloyd, that's a lot). However, Abicion is quite hard, with 120,000 HP. You essentially must use an All Divide (and be very lucky) to beat him right now. If not, you can come back just before the final boss. You must go get the Chaos Heart from Cotton in Hakonesia before he will appear in the Temple. ______________________________________________________________________ ---16. Tower of Salvation--- 救いの塔 -When you try to head up, your path is blocked, so Yuan shows up with an alternate. Head up toward the Eternal Sword, enjoy some events, then it's time for a boss fight. And it seems story splits occur. If you got the scene with Kratos in Flanoir, you will fight... --BOSS: ZELOS -HP: 28,000 -EXP: 9,300 -Gald: 9,800 -Element: Thunder, Light -Items: Misty Symbol However, if you are keeping Zelos, then you obviously won't be killing him, so you'll fight --BOSS: GATE KEEPER -HP: 18,000 -EXP: 8,880 -Gald: 8,970 -Element: Light -Items: Misty Symbol -After the fight, you're in another new area of the tower. Head straight up/right, burn the branches away with the Sorcerer's Ring, and head through the door. -Attempt to jump across, but fail. Jump on again, and this time run up it (since you're able to). When you get to the other side, it'll slide again, giving you access to a door on the lower level. -Go around right, burning branches as needed, until you reach some stairs. Go up these, then up the set nearby. Follow the path, but when it splits at a dead end, go up/right for items, then down/left to proceed. -Now you're on the upper level of that earlier room. Use your ring until the branches holding the boulder burn off, then go back to the stairs. This time go down/left, and open the gate. Now go to the boulder room the way you did the first time, go down the stairs in back, then climb the previously-swaying platform. Take the warp. -Enjoy an event at the bottom of the stairs. Enjoy the battle even more. Regal stays behind to protect Lloyd. -Grab the chests at both ends of the path, then take the other warp. This part's very simple. Go down the stairs. Cross the bridge at the bottom. After some events, Shihna falls after protecting Lloyd. -This is a kinda strangely laid-out area. Just loop around until you reach the warp. Since your characters keep leaving, you may want to use a Holy Bottle by now. In the next room, you lose Refill. -This room is like the last, only the save point is more out of the way. Go down/left at your first chance to reach the warp, or continue to the save point. Go downstairs and to the door in the next room, and you'll have an event where you lose Presea. -Another area with various paths blocked off. The warp is in the far right. Lloyd and Genius are trapped by forcefields when you attempt to go to the warp (straight across from the entrance warp). -Another one of those areas. The warp is in the far right again. -Head straight up, enjoy the events. Check the sword on the wall to find the door. More events, of course. --BOSS: PRONELMA -HP: 32,000 -EXP: 7,000 -Gald: 4,800 -Element: Darkness -Weakness: Light -Items: Red Savory --BOSS: YGGDRASIL -HP: 40,000 -EXP: 8,320 -Gald: 4,800 -Element: Light -Weakness: Darkness -Items: EX Gem LV4, Treat ______________________________________________________________________ ---17. Hidden Village of the Elves: Heimdarr--- ヘイムダール -Return to Heimdarr. After the events are over, talk to Collet at the Inn to rest. Then go left to the second map. Go up and talk to the guy to gain entry to Torent Forest. This place, and especially the music, will be familiar to players of Tales of Phantasia. ______________________________________________________________________ ---18. Torent Forest--- トレント -Head straight up the path until you change screens. Then go right, until you chagne again. In this third screen, there are three paths going up. Take the center path. -Next, head in the general direction of right, though there's some up at first, and a lot of down at the end. Anyway, you can create a save point here if you have a Memory Gem. Continue going down and right. -On this screen, go right until you reach a path going up and down, then go up, and take the last path going right. Take a few steps foward on the next screen to run into Kratos. Lloyd will fight him, alone. --BOSS: KRATOS AURION -HP: 12,000 -EXP: 9,990 -Gald: 5,520 -Element: Thunder, Light -Items: None After some events, it's time to fight Origin. --BOSS: ORIGIN -HP: 40,000 -EXP: 10,240 -Gald: 9,870 -Element: None -Items: Reflect Ring, Diamond -Watch the pretty cutscene, and Heimdarr go boom. Return to Heimdarr, and save one guy outside in the second map, the lead elf in his house, and two people on the first map. Then run toward the exit. After the events, leave Heimdarr, and go to Dike's house. ______________________________________________________________________ ---19. Dike's Home--- ダイク -Enter the house for some events that give you the Material Blade. This is Lloyd's third best weapon, inferior only to the Kusanagi and Maken Neblim. Conveniently, if you haven't killed the third Sword Dancer yet, you might be able to now, and instantly make these blades obsolete. ______________________________________________________________________ ---20. Tower of Salvation--- 救いの塔 -Go to what remains of the Tower of Salvation, and run forward. Choose the top option when a choice comes up, and Lloyd will run up and grab the Eternal Sword. It then splits in two, and goes into the Material Blade. You may want to use the Material Blade now so that you can use Lloyd's Hi-Ougi, but if you've activated the Maken Neblim, it's not worth it. You also gain a title for Lloyd. Something like Swordsman of Space and Time. Set it to him, it's his best. -Anyway, a warp to Derris-Kharlan will appear where the sword was, but you get a nice warp animation this time. ______________________________________________________________________ ---21. Derris-Kharlan--- デリス・カーラーン -There is some treasure here, but if you want it, explore on your own. I'll just say how to get through here, to Welgaia. -In this first area, just head straight. -In the second area, the shortest way through is Right/Down until you hit a corner, then up/right. This path doesn't branch, so just follow it. Your other party members will be seperated from you, but go up and through the warp anyway. -Head up, and you'll regain Collet. Warp once more to enter Welgaia. ______________________________________________________________________ ---22. Welgaia--- -Head up and right, to where the refresh machines and elevators are. Ride an elevator down to where you can see Refill. Move toward it, watch the events, then examine the sparkle on the ground for a short fight. -Now go left, to the first area of Welgaia. After the event, examine the green circle on the ground for another short fight. -Warp back ot the cells where you first entered Welgaia, and go to Presea and Regal. Notice that Lloyd sure bleeds a lot. Anyway, once the events finally end, examine the pool of blood for one more fight. -Now, return to the central area, and take the warp there, that was previously blocked off. This takes you to another warp, which takes you to Vinheim. ______________________________________________________________________ ---23. Vinheim--- -Head up the stairs, and kill the Dark Dragon. You can now go through the door to fight Mitos, but let's take care of some other things first. -From the base of the stairs, go into the room to the right. Don't go up the stairs in this room though, go around them, and you'll see an angel-type enemy on the map... except he doesn't move. He'll look at you, but he won't rush at you. Run into him to start a fight, kill the enemies, and then a chest will appear on a high ledge in this room. You can't get to it from here, so go back to the main room. -Go left, but take door farther back. This takes you to a spiral staircase. Head up. Skip the first door you come across, and go in the second, there should be another angel enemy that won't move. Fight it, and a chest appears in the back of the room containing the Tablet of the Past. -Now go back into the spiral staircase room, and take the door I had you pass earlier. This brings you onto the second level of the main room. Go into the door right next to you, to enter the second level of the left staircase room. Climb up the stairs, and exit at the top- right. Now you're on the top walkway of the main room. Cross it to reach the ledge with the chest from earlier. Open it to get the Tablet of the Future. Now go back to the bottom level of the main room. -When you get near the glowing panels on the floor, the tablets will react and make some colored blocks appear. There are warps to the left and right of the stairs where the Dark Dragon was. -You have to take three blocks in on each side to make a bridge, then one more on each side to drop the barrier around the chest. However, it must be done in a certain order. -Past (left warp): Black, Dark Blue, then Red to make the bridge, then Purple in the indentation. -Future (right warp): Yellow, Green, then Light Blue to make the bridge, then White in the indentation. -The barrier drops, so open the chest and get the Seal Magic Tablet. Now that you have this, you can skip Welgaia and Derris-Kharlan, allowing you to go straight from Vinheim to the Tower of Salvation, and the reverse. This means you can leave to go wrap up some loose ends before you fight Mitos. -If you do leave, go to Heimdarr, to the right side of the first map, and Genius will learn Meteor Swarm. -Then, go stop by Exire. One platform is floating far from the others. Loop around a house to get to it, then check the stone there. Move Shihna into your party, since she's your summoner, then equip the Aquamarine, Opal, Garnet, and Ruby on your immediate party members. Again, Phantasia players will recognize the combo, though it won't make sense in Symphonia (since the Ruby is from Gnome, from Tethe'Alla while the other three are the Sylvarant Seirei). Now check the stone again. Maxwell will appear, and you'll fight him. He has 60,000 HP. Defeat him, and Shihna will gain the ability to summon him. When you summon him, he basically does Meteor Swarm. -Finally, sufficiently powered up, go take out Abicion if you haven't. -Once you feel powerful enough (whee, Lloyd just did a normal attack for 2600!) go back to Vinheim and open the door the Dark Dragon was guarding. On the other side, you fight Mitos. --BOSS: MITOS -HP: 55,000 -EXP: 8,280 -Gald: 1,690 -Element: Light -Items: None And then his second form (don't all last bosses have one?) --BOSS: MITOS -HP: 60,000 -EXP: 0 -Gald: 0 -Element: All -Items: EX Gem MAX ______________________________________________________________________ ---EX. Darkness Weapons Since having this up with Abicion stuff in the walkthrough was making it hard to find, i've moved the Darkness Weapon locations down here. =The Darkness Weapons are located... =1. Gaoracchia Forest, chest | Fafnir (ファフニール) -You need the Neblim Key to open this chest. See the walkthrough for Gaoracchia for the location of the chest. =2. Altamira, casino at night | Vicious Core (ビジャスコア) -Only at night, costs 1,000 Gald I believe. =3. Triet area Sand Worm | Soul Eater (ソウルイーター) ^This one takes a little extra work. Talk to the guy in Triet by the item shop. he'll mention a worm (ミミズ). Now go to the second area of Triet and talk to the guy next to the dog, he mentions a giant monster. There SHOULD be a glowing circle NW-ish of Triet now. If not, go talk to every non-shop NPC in Triet until it is there, i'm really not sure on the trigger. Anyway, once it appears, enter to fight the Sand Worm for the Maken Soul Eater, and an All Divide. =4. Flanoir, from Abicion | Neblim (ネブリム) -When you already have one Darkness Weapon, talk to Abicion in Flanoir and he will give you the Maken Neblim and the Neblim Key. =5. Welgaia, chest | Apocalypse (アポカリプス) -You need the Neblim Key to open this chest. See the walkthrough for Welgaia for the location of the chest. =6. Hakonesia, from Cotton after trigerring Abicion fight | Chaos Gate -After you have all the Darkness Weapons except this one, go talk to Abicion in Flanoir again. He'll leave to the Temple of Darkness, but you can't fight him until you get this from Cotton. =7. Temple of Earth, chest | Shihna's Darkness Weapon (some kanji >_<) -To the right of the dragon that drops 10,000 Gald. You need to complete the Temple of Earth, then go to Altesta's and talk to the little midget thing. Then return, and you'll be allowed to go get the chest. =8. Latheon Gorge, chest | Diablos (ディアボロス) -You need the Neblim Key to open this chest. See the walkthrough for Latheon Gorge for the location. =9. Toize Valley Mine, rubble | Evil Eye (イビルアイ) -The walkthrough for Toize Valley Mine also covers this. In the course of completing that dungeon you destroyed a spinning slab of rock. Go examine its rubble to get the Magan Evil Eye. As for Abicion himself, or Abyssion in the US version, he's quite powerful. At level 115 or so, without an All-Divide, it's about a fair fight on Normal. He still nearly killed Lloyd and Shihna, and did off Refill once. ______________________________________________________________________ 1. Hopefully you can change that into an email address. You're welcome to ask questions about the game, but if it's not in here, odds are pretty good I don't remember it. Suggestions, or translation help are very welcome. Include Tails of Symphonia in the subject line so I know not to let Gmail just toss you into spam. ______________________________________________________________________ -----Notes on Knowledge of Japanese----- My knowledge of Japanese is pretty limited. I've finished four years of the language, but that's high school Japanese, with a rather slow- teaching teacher. If you know more Japanese than I do, and see things I have translated incorrectly, please let me know. Mind you, i'm not entirely stupid, so you do have to prove yourself right, i'm not going to change "Tower of Salvation" to "Cave of Destruction" just because someone claims to know it should be that without proof. ______________________________________________________________________
