Enjoy! =============================================================================== 03. Introduction ASDOP =============================================================================== Devil Within is a side game for Tekken 5. This mini game follows up on what happen after Tekken 4. You will play as Jin to learn about his past. Unlike the Tekken Force mode in Tekken 3 and 4, this game is an action based platform game. So fighting game fans that sucks at platform jumping might dislike Devil Within. Its repetitive fighting and graphics might turn off many players as well. But then again, what games isn't repetitive nowadays? Devil Within has some well-hidden secrets and clever puzzles that can make your brain working too. Overall, Devil Within isn't that mindless bashing like Tekken Force did. I won't say this game has provided me hours of fun, but when I was working on this FAQ, I learn to appreciate this mini game. =============================================================================== 04. How to use this FAQ ECPTF =============================================================================== This FAQ is a step-by-step guild to help you go through the levels in Devil Within. The rooms in the game are always connected with hallways so I won't be include any thing about hallways unless there is a point where you need to choose paths. I will name the rooms by numbers so that player can understand how far they are. It should make player's life a lot easy if they want to discuss about a certain puzzle in a certain room. If a room have a special item call The Evil Symbol, I will add a [Evil Symbol] tag on top of the room no. Example: [Evil Symbol] Room #2 - There will be 2 crate towers and some blue energy on top of them. Jump over and collect them. Evil Symbol #1 will be located at... Here are the tags that I will use. [Boss] - This tag indicates that the room has a path to the boss fight. [Checkpoint] - This tag indicates that when you game over and select retry, you will continue from this room. [Evil Symbol] - This tag indicates that the room has 1 or more Evil Symbols. Evil Symbols ONLY appear on the 2nd game and onwards after you beat Devil Within once. [Optional] - This tag indicates that it is optional to enter or skip the room. Usually, such room contains red energy and maybe ambush. [Save point] - This tag indicates that the room has a path to the save room. [Special] - This tag indicates that the room has a path to the secret room, which have a special item to unlock Star Blade for Arcade History. I won't be using the mini map in the game to tell directions like north, south, east and west. Instead, I'll use left, right, ahead, behind... etc. For those rooms with puzzle, I will put up an ASCII map to show the layout of the room. Instead of following the mini map, I place the blocked path at the top of the layout. So don't get confuse by reading the mini map, read my ASCII map instead. Here's an example of my ASCII map, Upward Blocked path _ _ _| |_ _ _ | | | | | | Left | | Right | | | | |_ _ _ _ _ _| | | Downward =============================================================================== 05. Gameplay GAMPY =============================================================================== ------------------ - Basic Controls - ------------------ D-pad = Nothing Left Analog Stick = Move around Right Analog Stick = Moving camera Square = Punch X = Kick Triangle = Guard Circle = Jump L1 = Special moves L2 = Change target lock on R1 = Lock on R2 = Change target lock on R3 = Reset camera location Select = 2D map ON/OFF Start = Pause/Start game --------------- - Devil Gauge - --------------- The devil gauge is under the health bar. You can fill it up by fighting mobs or suffer some injury. Once your devil gauge is filled, you can transform into Devil Jin by holding the L1 button and then press Triangle button. When transforming, you will be push away mobs that surrounds you. So do this when you need to get out of sticky situation. The advantage of using Devil Jin is that you are able to deal 1.5 times damage than normal Jin is. You can also gain twice as much force point from fighting the mobs. However, to maintain the form of the Devil, your health and the devil gauge will slowly drain away. Using special skills like Hellfire Blast will drain the devil gauge even more. When the power in your devil gauge is empty, you will reveal back to normal Jin. Another way to reveal back to normal Jin is by holding the L1 button and then press Triangle button. You can do this anytime during Devil form. After you beat a stage, your devil gauge will be empty when you start another stage. You can't carry over the power in your devil gauge, so feel free to use it during boss battle. -------------------- - Combo Hits Bonus - -------------------- After you defeated a mob with combo hits, you can continue the combo on another mob. But you have to be quick. You can also earn some bonus after your combos stop. The more hits you got, the higher your bonus will be. E.g. if you got up to between 5 and 8 hits, you will get 10 bonus force points. Here is a list of bonus I found so far, +------------------+-------------------+ | Combos | Bonus | +------------------+-------------------+ | 5 - 8 hits | 10 force points | | 9 - 19 hits | 50 force points | | 20 - 29 hits | 150 force points | | 30 - 39 hits | 300 force points | | 40 - 49 hits | 600 force points | | 50 - 59 hits | 800 force points | | 60 - 69 hits | 1000 force points | | 70 - 79 hits | 1200 force points | | 80 - 89 hits | 1400 force points | | 90 - 99 hits | 1600 force points | | 100 and above | 1800 force points | +------------------+-------------------+ *60 - 89 hits are found by Brad LaValle, read his tips at the Contributor's Tips section for more. With the help of the Devil Jin trick, I manage to build up 104 hits combo from the 1st stage boss (medium difficulty level). All I do was to keep a safe distance and spam the Hellfire Blast on the boss. ---------- - Saving - ---------- Whenever you see the [Save point] tag on the room number, you can get into the save room to save your progress. Just hit on the door and you will enter the save room, then just walk over to the circle device and the game will prompt you question about saving. If you using the Stage Select, the door to the save room will be disable. Alternately, you can also save your progress after beating a stage. If you decide go to the main game or turning off your PS2 to get away from DW for a while, the continue option on DW menu will be disable when you return. Don't worry about it because your progress is still intact, just select Load Data to continue where you left off. ----------- - Objects - ----------- Just like any other platform games, there are objects like treasure chest, collectable items, breakable objects and non-breakable objects as well. Access control - These breakable objects are use to unlock doors. They usually appear after you defeat all the mobs in the room. If there is no access control in a room with locked door, try looking for it in another room. They can also use as stepping-stone to reach higher grounds too. Cracks - These cracks comes in 2 forms, wall cracks and floor cracks. They are breakable and there are usually hidden items or passages behind. In Stage 1 and 2, they are referring as cardboard boxes wall and glass floor panel. Crate - These are treasure chest type objects. They usually contain goodies like the blue energy or the red energy. But some of these objects contain nothing too. Break them to see what they contain. You can also use these crate as a stepping-stone to reach higher grounds. Crate tower - These breakable objects are towers that are stacked up with crates. They can be use as higher platforms to reach certain hard-to-reach items. There might be some energy floating on top of these towers or even hidden inside. Door - These doors can be open by punching or kicking. Locked door will be indicated with yellow color marking on the mini map. Heavily locked door will be indicated with red color marking. Door that leads to another area will be indicated with blue markings. To unlock the locked doors, you have to find and destroy objects like the Access control or the High-level access control. Energy - These are collectable items. Collect Blue energy to increase your force points. Red energy are use to recover your loss health. Just get near to these energies to grab them. Hidden energies can be found by breaking items like crates and towers. You could also get them by defeating mobs. Energies that were found by breaking the crates and towers or dropped by mobs will disappear if you leave them along after a while. Fortunately, energies that were not hidden in each room will stay forever, waiting for you to collect. Evil Symbol - These Evil Symbols look exactly the same as the tattoo on Jin's left arm. These are collectable items but they are only available after you beat the game once. There will be 8 Evil Symbols scatter all over the levels in each stage. There is a total of 40 Evil Symbols for all 5 stages, think you can find them all? Read the Tricks and Secret section to find out more. Floor Switch - These switches are important for solving puzzles, you need to place objects like the hover cart on them to get to the next area. High-level - These breakable objects are use to unlock heavily locked Access control doors. Hover cart - These are non-breakable objects. You can push them around by punching or kicking. These objects are very useful for solving puzzles and reach higher grounds. You can also use them to attack mobs by pushing the cart at them. After you push these objects, they will last for a while before they disappear and reappear at their original spot. Pendulum - These non-breakable objects are very useful to reach higher grounds. Punch or kick at the platform attached to the arm to make it swing. Attack it with combos and it will swing with more momentum. The platform can be use as a hammer to hit the mobs too. Just watch out and not to get hit by it instead. Stone Tile - These objects are use as platforms for hard-to-reach areas. But they will collapse if you stay too long on them. Most of these tiles will reappear after they collapse. ----------------- - Result Screen - ----------------- When you beat a stage, the game will evaluate your every aspect of performance at the stage result screen. The better you play, the better rank you'll get and more money you'll earn. There are 7 aspects of the result screen; they are clear time, force points, combo max, K.O. rate, total damage, boss battle and retry. Each rank of these aspects will contribute to your overall ranking. The overall rank is use for multiplying the force points to exchange to money used in Tekken 5. Here is a list of every multipliers, +---------+-----------------------------------------------+ | Overall | Rank Bonus for each difficulty level | | Rank +-----------+-----------+-----------+-----------+ | | Easy | Medium | Hard | Very Hard | +---------+-----------+-----------+-----------+-----------+ | S | 2.4 | 3.4 | 4.0 | 4.6 | | A | 1.9 | 2.6 | 3.1 | 3.6 | | B | 1.5 | 2.0 | 2.4 | 2.8 | | C | 1.2 | 1.5 | 1.8 | 2.1 | | D | 1.0 | 1.2 | 1.4 | 1.6 | +---------+-----------+-----------+-----------+-----------+ Take note that you will earn 5,000 Force Point as clear bonus each time you beat a stage. Here's how the calculation works: If you play on Easy difficulty level, earn rank B and collected 10,000 Force Points, you'll earn: (10,000 + 5,000) x 1.5 = 22,500 gold. Next, I'll explain the aspects in the stage result screen. Clear Time - Clear each stage as fast as possible. You can skip optional fight, but that will lower the rank for K.O. Rate. It is not impossible to achieve rank S for clear time with 100% K.O. Rate, so don't skip battles if you want a good overall ranking. Depends on the size of the stage, each stage will have a different standard for rank S. Force Pts - Earn as many force point as you can to get high ranks. Killing mobs in Devil form could earn you double the normal force point, so do it whatever you can. Just like the clear time, each stage has different standard too. The harder the stage, the more force point you must earn. Combo Max - The higher number of combo hits you got, the better. So make use of mobs in large groups to build up high amount of combos, check out Brad LaValle's tips to get high amount of combo. Or you could also use Hellfire blast and keep using it on stage 1, 2, 3 or 5 boss to build up some cheap combos. K.O. Rate - This aspect is the easiest to achieve rank S. All you need to do is to kill all the mobs throughout the whole stage in order to achieve 100%. Which means, you must not skip any optional fights. Total Damage - This is about the total damage you suffer throughout the stage. The less damage you take, the better your rank will be. Each stage has it's own standard for rank S too, so you are allowed to take more damage on harder stages. Take note that when transformed into Devil Jin, the health drain you receive will contribute to the total damage as well. So don't overdo it. Boss Battle - This aspect is hard to determine. All I know is that if you defeat the boss as fast as possible with minimum moves, you should be able to achieve rank S. Retry - This aspect isn't hard to achieve if you are able to clear a stage without dying. Each time you select retry when you die, you will drop by one rank lower. Therefore if you want to achieve rank S, you better not get yourself killed and retry. =============================================================================== 06. It's a pretty difficult | | | and useless move to pull off because the | | | mobs always quick recover when you knock | | | them down to the ground. There is very | | | little chance where you can do this move | | | so there is virtually no use for this rare | | | move at all. | | ------------------------+--------------------------------------------+--------+ Attack on downed mob 2 | When playing as Devil Jin, you can attack | ? | | downed mob with a hellfire blast. However, | | | it's another cool but not so common move. | | ------------------------+--------------------------------------------+--------+ =============================================================================== 07. General tips GTITS =============================================================================== - Use the guard button if you are surrounded by mobs. The guard button works wonderful if you keep holding it. It can block any kind of melee attack from any directions, so you don't have to watch your back at all. - While guarding, you cannot counter attack or move around unless you release the guard button. However, you can still using the shoulder buttons and the right analog stick to move the camera while guarding. - Use the lock on button to check your target's health. When you lock on, you can see the color of your lock on cursor. If it's white, it means your target is still healthy. Orange means injured, and red means dying. - Hit anything that looks suspicious but do it only after you done exploring the room. - If you know a crate that contains red energy but you are not injured, don't use it yet. Leave it alone and come back later when you need it. - If you see a crack on the floor, stand at the edge and stomp on it. If you do it right, you can observe the lower floor before dropping down. - Using Demon's Paw to knock off mobs into the endless pit for some quick kill. - To avoid objects getting damage, lure the mobs into the hallway and fight there. =============================================================================== 08. Stage 1 Walkthru and boss strategy 11111 =============================================================================== ------------------------------- - Mobs that appear at stage 1 - ------------------------------- - Adam lv 1 and 2 - Eve lv 1 and 2 - JACK lv 1 and 2 - JILL lv 1 ------------- - Stage 1-1 - ------------- Room #1 - This is where you start off. There is no enemy in this room so feel free to practice the controls and moves. You can set the options to suit your taste and etc. Once you are ready to go, destroy the 2 blue crates to get some blue energy, then turn left and hit the door to open it. Go through the hallways and proceed to the next room. [Evil Symbol] Room #2 - There will be 2 crate towers and some blue energy on top of them. Jump over and collect them. Evil Symbol #1 will be located across the room, jump from the 2nd crate tower to get it. Next, drop down to the bottom and fight some mobs. After the fight, the access control will appear, destroy it to disable the laser. Hit the door to open it. Don't forget to collect some energy hidden in the crates here. Room #3 - This room has 2 paths. The one in front leads to Stage 1-2 and the one on the right leads to Room #4. Go to room #4 if you need some energy and healing. [Optional] Room #4 - The crate on left contains a red energy, and the other one on the right contains a blue energy. Collect them and head back to Room #3. Go to Stage 1-2 from there. ------------- - Stage 1-2 - ------------- Room #5 - The path in front leads to Room #6, go there if you want to earn some blue energy. Otherwise, just use the black crates on your right as stepping-stone to get to the other side and go to room #7. [Optional] Room #6 - There will be some crate towers and a small crate here. Once you destroy the small crate, you will be ambushed. So get ready for a fight! Most optional room has mobs ambushing you when you destroy a certain objects in that room. Once you've done with this room, return to room #5. Room #7 - Nothing special here, just use the black crates as stepping-stone to climb over to the other side. Take note that you can't throw the clone and Punch-throw combos doesn't work either. After you defeat the crap out of Heihachi's clone, 3 more clones will spawn and gang up on you. Watch out for their attacks, because the chance to counter attack is getting slimmer. Just remember to keep guarding and wait for an opening, then unleash your combos on the clones. These 3 clones have the ability to charge power. They will stomp one foot on the ground and do uppercut. This move can cause guard damage. So attack them or run away while they are charging. It's better to focus one target at a time, aim to defeat one of the clones first because even an injured clone is as deadly as a healthy one. Once a clone is down, the other two clones should be easier. Just use the same guard and counter attack tactics. You can also use this strategy if you got enough power to transform to Devil Jin; after you defeat the first clone, run to the center of the room and Transform to Devil Jin. Keep using the Roundhouse Hellfire Blast to blast all 3 clones. They should all be dead before your power drains out. =============================================================================== 10. There are some more mobs you might want to kill before reaching the bottom floor. Keep moving and go to the bottom floor, where the door is heavily barred with wooden spears gate and a mask of the Ogre. There is also the third stone cube, which contains a red energy. Use it to heal if you want. The eyes of the mask should be glowing red. Hit it to open the door to the boss battle. ----------------------------- - Stage 3-5 (boss strategy) - ----------------------------- Name: Ogre Hit Point: 70 approximately Attacks: Homing projectiles Fire blast Tail sweep Horn thrust Backhand swing Appearance: Look exactly like True Ogre form from Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag except that his skill tone is grayish and he doesn't have that slimy snake for right arm anymore. Ogre can be a tough cookie sometimes; he has the ability to blast fire, teleport, and shoots projectiles that has the ability to homing at you. You can't block these attacks so keep running until the projectiles hit the ground or floor. You can also use the surrounding for cover. If you see Ogre taking a step back, he will blast fire at you so run away before you get burn. Ogre has a habit to teleport and to reappear in front of you. He will then blast fire at zero range. Run behind to his back when his about to fire. When his about to land, attack him with combos. Try using the kick combos, Thunder God Fist (Circle + punch), Double Lift Kick (Circle + kick) or the L.L.R.K. These moves work very well at knocking Ogre down. Or, you could stomp punch while his still blasting fire in the air. If Ogre stays on the ground, you can use the hit and run method; just run around Ogre and hit him with the Spinning Flare Kick or the Demon's Paw, then run away and repeat again. You can also transform to Devil Jin and keep using Hellfire blast, Ogre's health should go down very quickly. =============================================================================== 11. Hit that object on the wall for a boss battle. ----------------------------- - Stage 4-5 (boss strategy) - ----------------------------- Name: Energy Orb Hit Point: 8+8+8+36 (total of 60) Attacks: ?? Appearance: Just a ball of energy that floats around. This battle will require you to fulfill certain tasks. First, you need to kill all the mobs on the center platform. Take note that mobs that appear in boss battle will not drop any blue or red energy at all; so feel free to push them off the platform. Demon paw works best for this job. Once the platform is clear, look out for the energy orb and take note of where it's headed. You can't use Lock on to find the energy orb so keep your eyes open wide. The energy orb will find a platform with a device protected by a green shield. It will lower the shield to recharge itself. Quickly jump over to that platform and destroy the device before the shield close up. It's best using the stomp punch because this move can destroy the device in one hit. Once the device is destroyed, the platform it's on will disappear, so quickly jump over to the smaller platforms and return back to the center. If you are badly injured, there is some red energy on some of the small platforms. So be sure to grab one on your way back to the center platform. You need to repeat the tasks 3 more times. Each time you destroy a device, the center platform will spawn stronger mobs. When there's only 1 device left, there won't be any more mob to spawn; the energy orb will spam fireballs at you instead. So stay at the center platform and keep dodging until you get the chance to jump over to the last platform. Unleash your best combo a few times on the last device and this battle will end. =============================================================================== 12. There is also a core stone and a stepping-stone here. Look around and you can see a ledge above the entrance to this room. Climb up to the wall but don't jump over yet. Double jump around the corner and you should cling on to the ledge. Climb up and grab the Evil Symbol #5. There is a core stone on the ledge as well. Next, jump over to the other side of the wall and proceed on. ------------- - Stage 5-3 - ------------- [Boss] [Evil Symbol] Room #23 - This room is pretty big and can be pretty confusing, there are many paths here but you can't reach most of them yet. Some of the platforms are too high to reach. There is also a blockage guarded with an energy shield on the lower ledge. You can also see a huge diamond shape object on the wall ahead. The path on your left will lead to another energy shield. So the only way is down. The Evil Symbol #7 is located high above in one of the path. You can't reach it yet, so let's not bother about it. There are some energy floating on the platforms, grab them if you want to. Jump down to the lower ledge and defeat the mobs. Then destroy the glowing core and the blockage to proceed to the next room. [Checkpoint] Room #24 - There are 2 paths here; both paths will eventually end up at Room #27. The path on the left will directly lead you to room #27, and the path on the right ledge will lead you to room #25 and #26 first. You can also destroy the pillars here to collect some energy. If you need more energy and the Evil Symbol #6, go to room #25 by jumping over the platforms. Destroy the blockage to proceed on. [Evil Symbol] [Optional] Room #25 - Hit the 2 wall cracks to reveal a core stone and more areas in this room. Defeat the mobs but DON'T destroy the glowing core yet. Look up around and you can see a ledge above. Use the glowing core as a stepping-stone to climb up that ledge. There is another core stone and the Evil Symbol #6. Grab the stuffs and destroy the glowing core. Destroy and blockage and proceed on, or backtrack to Room #24. [Optional] Room #26 - You can see Room #27 through the fence wall. There is also a floor cracks and a blue energy in this room. If you stomp on the floor cracks, you will drop down to the other side of Room #27. Doing so, you will miss some mobs on the other path of Room #24 and you can't climb back up. If you are aiming for 100% K.O. rate, you should backtrack to Room #24 and check out the other path. Otherwise just drop down to Room #27 and proceed on. Room #27 - This room is divided into 2 sides with a wall. If you came here from Room #24, you will see a core stone and a stepping-stone. Climb up the wall and you should see Room #26 through the fence wall on your right. Jump over to the other side and this is where you will be if you drop from Room #26. There is some red energy hidden in the core stone. For some reason, you can't use that core stone to climb back up to Room #26. Destroy the blockage here and move on to the next room. Room #28 - This room is pretty big. Go around and you can see a pillar in the middle of the room. There is a wall cracks near by. Destroy it to reveal a hover platform. Push it out and use to reach to the higher ledge. Jump over to the pillar and you can see another wall cracks. Double jump to it and use stomp punch or spinning flare kick to break it. Climb back up and jump over to the ledge where the wall cracks was. You can see another hover platform, a core stone and yet another wall cracks. Once you get to the blockage, quickly destroy it before the glowing core returns. Room #29 - You can see the big glowing core in this room. Jump over to the ledge and destroy it. Defeat the mob and destroy the smaller glowing core. Then destroy the blockage to proceed on. [Checkpoint] Room #30 - Climb up to the wall and double jump to the higher ledge. There is a glowing core here. Destroy it and blockage to proceed to the next room. [Boss] [Evil Symbol] Room #23 - Remember this room? Now there are 2 moving platforms in this room. One moves up and down. And the other moves horizontally. Jump over to the moving platform that moves up and down. Use it to reach the higher ledge. The hallway here will lead to Room #31. If you need to grab the Evil Symbol #7 or some energy, don't take the hallway yet. Look around and you can see 2 platforms on the same level of the ledge. Double jump over the platforms and you can reach a dead end. There is a core stone and the Evil Symbol here. Grab the stuffs you need and return to the ledge. Room #31 - There is a core stone here and a door, which lead to room #32. If you need to set your checkpoint or grab some energy, go to room #32. There is also a moving platform at the bottom floor, you can drop to the lower level but you can't climb up if you do so. [Checkpoint] [Optional] Room #32 - There are 4 core stones here. One of them contains some red energy and the rest are blue energy. Return to room #31 after you are done. [Checkpoint] Room #31 - Drop to the moving platform and jump over to the ledge at the lower floor. There is another core stone on the ledge and a pathway. ------------- - Stage 5-4 - ------------- Room #32 - There are 2 pillars, 2 floor switches, a blocked path and a wall cracks along the side of the wall. Destroy all the pillars and the wall cracks as well, it will reveal a hidden path so take that path and proceed on. [Evil Symbol] Room #33 - Look up and you can see the Evil Symbol #8. Jump over to the second tile and quickly double jump to the Evil Symbol to grab it. If you do it right, you should land back on to the ledge. Congratulations, you collect all 40 Evil Symbols! But it's not time to celebrate yet; you still need to beat Stage 5 to obtain the expensive items. Jump over the tiles to the next hallway. Room #34 - There are some core stone and a floor cracks in this room. Stand on the edge of the crack and stomp on it. This should reveal a hole and you can see room #32. Check out the floor layout of both rooms. Position yourself to face the blocked path; both rooms should look like this, Blocked Path Blocked Path ------- _| |_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|_ _|_ - Key - _| | | ------- 1st S->|S _ 1st S->|S | 1st H = 1st Hover | _ _ _ _| | | Platform | | | 2nd | 2nd H = 2nd Hover | | | H | Platform |_ _ | |_ _ |_ _ _ 1st S = 1st Switch Hole->| | | Hole->| | 2nd S = 2nd Switch |_ _| | _|_ _| J | | | _ _ | | | | | |_ _ |1st H | | 2nd | 2nd | |S | S | |_ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_ _ _ _ _ _ _| Lower Floor Upper Floor Room #32 Room #34 The 2 switches on the layout of room #34 are use for indicate their position on the lower room. It should fall to the lower room. Next, run to the 2nd hover platform and push it downward. It should also fall to the lower room and stop at the 2nd switch. Lastly, drop down to room #32 and quickly push the 1st hover platform towards the 1st switch. This should remove the energy shield. Quickly run to the blockage and destroy it. Proceed on to the next room Hallway - There is a junction up ahead. The right path is a dead end but there is a core stone, which contains some red energy. The left path will lead to room #35 Room #35 - Go around the room and destroy the wall cracks. Jump down to the path at the bottom. There is a core stone at the hallway, which contain some blue energy Room #36 - Drop to the lower ledge underneath. There is a core stone, which contain some red energy. Use it to heal if you want. Jump over to the moving platform that moves horizontally and over to another moving platform that moves up and down. Climb up to the ledge where the pendulum is. Look up and you can see a row of tiles forming a ledge and ledge on it's right. Punch the pendulum to give it extra momentum. Use the platform on the pendulum to reach the tiles. Once you jump over to the tiles, quick run over to the ledge on the right. From the highest ledge, look around and you can see the big glowing core on the lower floor. Drop down and destroy it. After defeating the mobs, destroy the blockage and proceed on. ------------- - Stage 5-3 - ------------- Room #37 - There is a core stone and a floor cracks here. Drop down to the lower room by stomping the cracks. Room #38 - There is a core stone here. Use it to grab the energy above. [Boss] [Evil Symbol] Room #23 - Still remember this room? Look at the diamond shape thing on the wall. It should be glowing purple and have some kind of a transparent tentacles growing out of it. The core stone on your left contains a red energy; use to heal if you are injured. If you haven't collected the Evil Symbol in this room, this is your last chance so you better do it. After you are done, jump over and hit the object for the final boss fight. ----------------------------- - Stage 5-5 (boss strategy) - ----------------------------- Name: Ogre (1st form) Hit Point: 40 Attacks: Homing projectiles Fire blast Tail sweep Horn thrust Backhand swing Appearance: Same as Ogre in stage 3 but his slightly weaker. Name: Final Ogre (2nd form) Hit Point: 65 approximately Attacks: Homing projectiles Fire blast Cyclone drill Cyclone sweep Stomp Horn thrust Backhand swing Appearance: Larger than before and meaner looking, with a head that looks like a dragon. 1st form strategy: Ogre has 2 forms in this battle. His 1st form is the same as he was in stage 3. Just use the same strategy and defeated his first form. If your devil gauge is full, save it for Ogre's 2nd form. You might need it later. If you could defeat Ogre's first form without getting much damage, you will have a higher chance of surviving his 2nd form. 2nd form strategy: This is it!!! Ogre is mad and his so damn pissed off. He will floor your ass over and over again if you are careless. Ogre's 2nd form is a little harder but if you know when to guard, counter attack or run away, it should be a breeze. A last reminder for all newbies; you can guard melee attacks but you can't guard projectile attacks. Are you ready for round 2? Ogre will now use new attacks, the Cyclone Drill, Stomp and the Cyclone Sweep. Here's how you can deal with these moves, Cyclone Drill - Ogre will execute this move by raising his left arm like an uppercut; a cyclone will be rising on where you stand. This is a projectile attack, so you can't guard this attack. You better run away when you see Ogre raising his left arm. If there is a little distance between you and Ogre, you can Stomp Punch Ogre while dodging the Cyclone Drill at the same time. Once you knock Ogre down, you can do another Stomp punch as free hit. You can try for a 3rd Stomp punch, but it will be a risk. You could also use Demon's Paw to knock down while you run towards Ogre and dodging the Drills. Stomp - Stomp is a very quick melee move where Ogre jumps up above you and quickly stomps down. Since this is a melee move, you can guard this move but it cause guard damage so there is no point guarding it when you are dying. You can guard and counter attack with L.L.R.K., Double Lift Kick, Hopping Roundhouse kick, Thunder God Fist or Electric Wind God Fist. Or you could easily run away if you are constantly on the move. If you manage to run away from the stomp, run back to Ogre and counter with a Demon's Paw. Once you knock him down, you can give him another Stomp punch. Cyclone Sweep - This is a slow start but fast attack melee move. Ogre will execute this move by turning his body and sweep the floor with his tail, creating a cyclone around him at the same time. When Ogre is about to do a Cyclone Sweep, he is invulnerable to any attack, so prepare to guard instead of attacking like a crazy mad man. You will be push away if you manage to guard it. There's isn't much things you can do after guarding the sweep, so run away and observe Ogre's next move. If you transform into Devil Jin, lock onto Ogre and keep shooting Hellfire Blast. This move can damage Ogre badly and cancel whatever it's trying to do too. This should take away at least half of the health from Ogre, but your health will drain too. Therefore it's advisable to use this tactic after you had taken away half of Ogre's health. If you don't have enough power to transform into Devil Jin, then run close to fight Ogre. Apply the tips I given above and you should do fine. You can also punish Ogre with Stomp punches or Hopping Roundhouse kick after blocking his Horn thrust or Backhand swing. Repeat knocking down Ogre as many times as you can and his health will go down very quickly. =============================================================================== 13. Mob List MOOOB =============================================================================== Since I can't find any information about the official names of the mobs, I might as well create my own. So don't laugh if I use JILL for the female version of JACK or if the names are too lame. I'll change them once I get the correct names or better suggestion from the readers. There are many mobs that look and fight the same but their colors are different and some took more hits to kill. This is because of the different levels each mobs are. The higher their level, the more hit points they have. Below is a long list of hit point and force points data of each mob, --------- - Notes - --------- Lv = Level HP = Hit Point FP = Force Point ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Name/Form | Lv | HP | FP | Appearance | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Adam & Eve | 1 | 10 | 150 | White color body | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 12 | 200 | Gray color body | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 14 | 300 | Black color body with red markings on the | | | | | head | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 4 | 16 | 300 | Gray color body with yellow marking on the | | | | | head. | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ JACK | 1 | 14 | 150 | Black color body & pink linings | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 17 | 200 | Dark color body, orange Mohawk & linings | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 20 | 300 | Black color body & purple markings | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 4 | 23 300 | Pale Golden color body | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ JILL | 1 | 10 | 200 | Black and silver color body | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 12 | 300 | Crimson color body & red markings | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 13 | 300 | Pale Golden color body | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Duke | 1 | 15 | 200 | Normal size & red eye shield | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 17 | 300 | Normal size, darker skin & Blue eye shield | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Regal | 1 | 20 | 200 | Large size & blind folded | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 23 | 200 | same as above, only darker and wearing red | | | | | pants | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Bald Punk | 1 | 11 | 400 | White skull, grayish skin, orange scar on | | | | | the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 14 | 400 | Black skull, blue grayish skin, red scar on | | | | | the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 16 | 500 | Same as above, except for the light gray | | | | | skull | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Spike Punk | 1 | 11 | 400 | Spiky Mohawk, spikes on lower legs, glowing | | | | | purple scar on the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 14 | 400 | Same as above, except for the light blue | | | | | grayish skin | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 16 | 500 | Same as above, except for the darker skin & | | | | | pale golden spike Mohawk | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Brawler Punk | 1 | 17 | 400 | Large size, red scar on the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 21 | 400 | Blue skin, red scar on the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 3 | 24 | 500 | Dark skin, red scar on the chest area | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Higer | 1 | 11 | 400 | Alien head, single eye with tall & slim | | | | | figure, red scar on the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 13 | 500 | same as above, except for the darker skin | | | | | orange bits all over the body and orange | | | | | scar | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Karura | 1 | 17 | 400 | bird-like beak, blades sticking out of both | | | | | hands, red scar on chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 20 | 500 | same as above, only darker skins with | | | | | partial orange bits all over the body and | | | | | orange scar on chest area | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ El Diablo | 1 | 21 | 500 | Grayish skin, horns sticking out of it's | | | | | head and red scar on the chest area | +----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ | 2 | 24 | 500 | Same as above, except for the darker skin & | | | | | orange bits over arms and legs area. | ---------------+----+----+-----+----------------------------------------------+ Confused with the mob names? Below are the descriptions of the mobs. I've categorized the mobs into 4 main groups, they are Droids, JACKs, Super Soldiers and the Ancients. ---------- - Droids - ---------- Droids are the most common mobs that Jin encounters in stage 1,2 and 3. They come in 2 forms, male and female types. The male droids fight like Bruce and Bryan while the female droids fight like Hwoarang and Christie. I name these droids by the name of Adam and Eve. There are total of 4 different levels for the droids. Their levels are differentiated by the color of their bodies and the markings on their heads. --------- - JACKs - --------- Just like the droids, JACKs come in female forms as well; they are known as JILLs. Similar to JACKs, JILLs has the same funky Mohawk hairstyle too. (I wonder who design JILLs?) Unlike the JACKs, JILLs has a different fighting style; they fight like Nina and Xiaoyu and they are faster than JACKs. While JACKs only fight like their arcade counterpart. There are a total of 4 levels for JACKs and 3 levels for JILLs. ------------------ - Super Soldiers - ------------------ These soldiers were once members of the Tekken Force. As a result of cruel and inhuman experiments, there are plugs all over their bodies just like in the movie, The Matrix. The soldiers come in 2 different sizes, normal and large. Normal sized soldiers are equipped with elbow blades weapon and they fight like Lei, Julia and Raven. While the large sized soldiers fight with bare-hands like Steve and Marduk. There are 2 levels for both normal size soldiers and large size soldiers. The names of these two mobs are suggested by Grub, from GameFAQs.com. Normal size soldiers are named Duke, while the large size soldiers are named Regal. ---------------- - The Ancients - ---------------- These demonic life forms were once human prisoners. Trapped inside the ruins, these prisoners are mutated by the power of the ruins to guard the ruins and eliminate any intruders. The scar on their chest area is a result of the mutations. [Bald Punks] Punks are the 1st few ancients that appear in Stage 3-3, their skins are grayish in color and their fighting style are the same the male drones'. [Spike Punks] Spike Punks are the ancients that have spiky Mohawk. Their fighting style is the same as the female drones. They seem to wear some kind of a gangster facemask. Other than that, they have those cool spikes sticking out of their lower legs area. [Brawler Punks] Brawlers are large sized mobs that look like they should be in the Soul Calibur game. They fight just like Regal. They also look like bigger version of bald punk, and more bad ass looking too. [Karuras] Karuras are the ancient mob that looks like a half-bird, half-man deity in Japan's mythology with the same name. It has a bird-like beak, blades sticking out of their bare hands and fight just like the normal size super soldiers. [Higers] Higers are ancients with a single eye and the head that looks like the alien from the movie, Alien. Therefore the original creator, H.R. Giger, inspires me to use the name. Higers has tall and slim figures like JILLs and they also fight just like JILLs. [El Diablo] El Diablo are large sized ancient mobs with horns sticking out of their head. They only make their first appearance near the end of stage 4. El Diablo fight exactly the same as the JACKs. =============================================================================== 14. SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT SPOILERS ALERT ------------ - Prologue - ------------ Just as Heihachi was attacked, someone raided one of the Mishima Zaibatsu labs. However, the world never found out about that raid. After the Tournament, Jin searched for a way to rid himself of the devil gene. Then he heard his mother was alive. Jin learned of a certain foreign laboratory and headed straight for it. The closer he got, the harder it was to control the devil. He let down his guard and was ambushed by a squadron of JACKs. The JACKs overpowered Jin and he passed out. Then the black wings came out... At this point, Jin hadn't realized what awoke when the devil came out. --------------- - Interlude 1 - --------------- Jin looked around after the fight. Up ahead, he saw the logo of G Corporation. Was G Corporation behind the attack on the Zaibatsu's lab? Jin thought the Tekken Army was finished, but those enemies fought just like them. Jin found an underground passage and an eerie voice echoed from inside. At the end of the hall, Jin witnessed madness. Failed experiments that were never quite human were seen in countless tanks. Jin sensed something underground. Something he knew very well... --------------- - Interlude 2 - --------------- Once Jin saw the G Corporation's Heihachi clone, he didn't want to know any more. Just as he tried to leave, all the monitors switch on and showed some sort of ruins. Jin had a bad feeling. Looking over documents, Jin learned the lab was built on ancient ruins. He also learned what the scientists were after. Then he saw it. "Ogre?!" Jin's nightmare returned. He fought to keep the devil gene under control. An evil shadow slowly took form. The screens flickered for an instant and Jin thought he saw the thing grin. --------------- - Interlude 3 - --------------- They fought ferociously, but in the end, Ogre disappeared into the ruins. During the fight, Jin realized that Ogre awakened when Jin became the devil. In order to put an end to his own cursed past. Jin would have to defeat Ogre. Jin chased Ogre deeper into the ruins. A cold silence hung in the air. "What is this place?" Jin was attacked. The enemies, no longer human, were being controlled by the ruins themselves. --------------- - Interlude 4 - --------------- Jin wondered what he had destroyed. He felt the power of the ruins fade away. Then the earth shook and Ogre appeared, much stronger than before. The ruins have been a seal. Created by those who fought Ogre. These ruins had sealed Ogre from the world. Ogre went straight for the outside world. The devil inside Jin welled up, hungry for a fight. Then Ogre stopped. Jin knew that Ogre was waiting for him, calling him to fight, to finish him off. Jin, straining to control the devil, headed off for his final battle. ------------ - Epilogue - ------------ Jin summoned all his strength-all his will-to defeat his nightmare again. With a deafening roar, Ogre transformed into light and dissolved into nothing. As the ruins begin to crumble, Jin knew that he had fulfilled his duty. As Jin left the crumbling ruins, he was surrounded by hundreds of JACKs. They came at him with everything they had. The devil was hungry for a fight and took over Jin in an instant. Mass slaughter was about to ensue... As Jin opened his eyes, his mind was comforted by a white light. The light protected him from the evil inside him. His mind was at peace. This feeling... Then Jin regained consciousness. The light slowly disappears as he floats into the sky. After Jin takes a moment to gather his thought, he stretched his black wings wide and flew into the night sky. Contributor's Tips CTIPS =============================================================================== This Section contains some of the contributor's share of experience on how they play Devil Within. Send in your share of experience and tips too. From Alexander: The absolutely the best way for cash earning is on Stage 3 and 5, both on very hard difficulty. At the moment, I completed Stage 3 with A rank and it was 284,292G in 23:21 minute and I completed Stage 5 with B rank (just bad luck, but A rank is possible) and it was 299,796G in 30:56... This is a tons of money, and it would be nice if you will add in faq that the best stages for cash is 3 and 5. Tips for very hard is simple, just try to take all blue energy on level (not in Stage 5 tho), use square + circle uppercut all the time sometimes with kick after it and it highly necessary to meet the bosses with full devil gauge which is guarantees >50 combo, which is hard to do on mobs with uppercut. From Brad LaValle: The way I've been doing this is fairly simple. When you get a big group together, perform 3 or 4 hit combo's at a time on one enemy until they're dead, then walk up to the next enemy and repeat. It's a lot easier than trying to do full combo's and knocking everyone away to where you can't get to them fast enough to continue the combo. A lot of the time I would be getting 40 or 50 hit combo's, then they would block my four string punch combo, and it would stop the combo count. Here's how to get around it: On the higher levels, and higher difficulty settings, it's a good idea to do 2 hit combo's at a time. That way, even if they block the first 2 hits, you can perform another 2 hit combo immediately after it, and 99% of the time they won't block the second 2 hit combo, and because it's done so fast, it continues the combo count. =============================================================================== 17. Frequently Asked Questions HELLP =============================================================================== Q: I can't find any Evil Symbol! A: The Evil Symbol will only appear after you beat the game once. So if you are playing Devil Within for the first time, the symbols won't be there as indicated in the walkthrough. Q: Why can't I access to the save room? A: If you are playing the game using the stage select feature, the door to the save room will be disabled. Q: Can I collect the Evil Symbol using Stage Select, or other difficulty? A: Yes, you can. Q: What other things are disabled if I use the stage select feature? A: Just the save room door. Q: I couldn't find the star blade ship as mentioned in this FAQ. A: This could be because you already unlock it from the main game. Try looking for it in the Arcade History, scroll pass Tekken 3 to see if it's there? Q: I don't know how to use Jin, do I have to learn his move in this game? A: No. You don't need to learn Jin's move to play this game. His moves are simplify into combos just like any Beat'em up arcade games Q: Man, this game is so long. How long do I need to beat this game? A: This game could easily takes up to 4 hours to 6 hours if you try to collect every energy, fight all mobs and explore every nit and crook of every room. But if you know which rooms to skip, fights to avoid, it shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 hours to complete all 5 stages. But hey, that's what save rooms are for isn't it? Q: Do I have to unlock every character before unlocking Devil Jin? A: No, Devil Jin can be unlocked any time you want. Depends on whether you beat Devil Within first or play more than 200 matches first. Q: Should I play this game if I already unlock Devil Jin? A: Yes, you should. There are other rewards worth getting other than unlocking Devil Jin. Q: I have collected an expensive item from Devil Within but I accidentally reset my character data and lost it. Can I get it back from Devil Within? A: Yes. You can get it back. You have to save your game from Devil Within by saving in the save room or beating any Stage. When you return to the main game, the lost item will be ready to equip. Otherwise reloading your data if you haven't save. Q: Why do the Punks look so much like Astaroth's player 1 costume from Soul Calibur series? A: I believe it's another crossover between the Tekken and Soul Calibur series. =============================================================================== 18. It's how you use the tips that count. If you keep dying, you're probably don't follow advice well or you're too slow to react. =============================================================================== FAQ Copyright (C) 2005 Kelvin Tan, All Rights Reserved
