For all intensive purposes this FAQ is considered Final unless by some miracle a major new discovery is made which at this point seems highly unlikely. March 16th 2003: Updated the "Controls" section and fine tuned a few of the Stealth Kills. Also I added a new "Special Ability" for Tesshu called the ENERGY PUNCH. Also worked on the "Q&A" section. March 10th 2003: Pretty much finished the guide today. Finished the "Dual Stealth Kills" section, added some more info to the "Q and A" portion and revised several of the existing Stealth Kill descriptions as well as the headers. Also all of the "Special Abilities" are now complete. The FAQ will stand as is until either some more Stealth Kill information is discovered or enough time has elapsed to ensure that the FAQ is indeed complete and final. March 9th 2003: Added a lot more stuff today in most sections. Proofread and corrected several mistakes and ommissions and overall just really cleaned it all up. Also added new information to the "Dual Mode Stealth Kills" and "Stealth Kill Overview" sections. March 8th 2003: Finished most sections today. All the Stealth Kills are complete. (At least the accounted ones) finished most of the Special Ability descriptions and added some credits as well. The next update will include the "Co- op Stealth Kills". March 6th 2003: Added a ton of new information today. Finished several sections and added Tesshu's 7th Stealth Kill by using KUMIHIMO. Also deleted some of the older "Update Information" as it was useless reading. March 5th 2003: Finished most of the Stealth Kills and about 40% of the special moves listings and descriptions. A few more updates should pretty much do it and then I'll consider writing a full FAQ/Walkthrough. March 4th 2003: Added a ton of information thanks to the release of the Demo disc as well as other information scattered about the web. Added the Move listings and worked on the various Character Overviews. (Submitted the guide today as version 1.0) <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> 3. INTRODUCTION | <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> Welcome to my TENCHU 3: Wrath Of Heaven "STEALTH KILL FAQ". Here you will find everything that you need to know regarding Stealth Kills, how they are executed as well as detailed descriptions of the various Stealth Kills that each playable character in the game can perform. You will also be able to find out everything you need to know regarding the Kanji moves that both Rikimaru and Ayame can execute. There is however no "Mission Guide" or "Walkthrough" contained in this document and if I do decide to write one then that will be posted as a separate document. If you must contact me then feel free to email me at the email address found at the top of this document. If you don't receive a response please don't take it personal, it may just take a while as I often work on various projects simultaneously. If you submit anything that gets added to this Guide then you shall receive full and proper credit herein. STEALTH KILL OVERVIEW | <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> A Stealth Kill is a cinematic action sequence that ends your enemy's life provided you attack your victim while he/she is in "" mode. Basically, if a guard is totally unaware of your presence and you sneak up to him or her and press the attack button, the game will treat you to a cutscene of you taking care of business. There are a wide variety of Stealth Kills that you can perform depending on your position in relation to the enemy as well as direction that you and them are facing. In the next few sections I will break down and examine each individual Stealth Kill and what steps should be followed to perform and execute them all at will. Q: Who can I Stealth Kill? A: You can Stealth Kill any enemy (Except for bosses) including Demons, Archers, Spear handlers, Ninja's, Guard Dogs, Spirits, Wooden Robots and the like. Basically anyone that resorts back to <"?"> mode can be Stealth Killed. Q: Can I Stealth Kill enemies that have been alerted? A: You can Stealth Kill enemies that are in "", "" and "" modes but once they have positively identified you and are in "" mode you cannot Stealth Kill them anymore until they revert back to one of the lower levels of awareness. Q: How come certain enemies don't give me a cutscene when I Stealth Kill them? A: There are a few enemies that do not trigger cutscenes mainly because they are too short. (One undetected slash will kill them though) Here is a complete listing of these enemies. Enemies without SK animations: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Little Wheelchair Robots in Agamai Castle - Spirits in Bamboo Forest - Floating Skulls in Cemetery - Dogs, Wolves, Bears NOTE: Cats cannot be killed at all. Q: I heard that certain enemies can Stealth Kill me too in this game. Is that true? A: Yes and no. The Red Demon ninja's have the ability to perform what appears to be a Stealth Kill by slitting your throat from behind and ending your life but they are not out there preying on you like you are on them. If you find yourself in a battle with two or more enemies including one of these Red Demon Ninja's then it is likely that you will encounter this. Always kill them first to avoid this from happening. Q: What can I do to hasten the Stealth Kill cutscene if there are two or more enemies nearby? A: Press "Circle" during any Stealth Kill animation to regain immediate control of your character. Alternatively you can switch the animations off altogether in the "Options" menu but then why even bother reading this FAQ. Q: How does the scoring work by using different kills? A: Every Stealth Kill gets you 20 points compared to just 5 points for a normal kill. Killing an innocent Civilian will cost you 50 points every time and erase your highlighted Kanji symbols. Q: How come I sometimes get 2 Kanji symbols when Stealth Killing an enemy and other times I only get 1 or even 1/2 of one? A: If you stealth kill an enemy with a slash that is just out of range for triggering the animation then you will only get awarded 1/2 of a Kanji. If one the other hand you Stealth Kill a guard from the front you will be awarded with 1 1/2 Kanji symbols. It appears as though you got two but that is only because one was already half lit. Q: How do I decapitate my victims at will? (Ayame + Rikimaru Only) A: The Attack Button ("Square") is pressure sensitive when it comes to Stealth Kills. If you press the button hard right when the cutscene kicks in then your probability of decapitating the enemy is increased dramatically. (Credit: JAMES MASON) <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 6. KANJI OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> The Kanji system that is set up in the game consists of 9 Japanese symbols at the lower left portion of your screen that can be highlighted as you successfully Stealth Kill enemies. The more Stealth Kills you perform, the more Kanji symbols you'll highlight. When all nine Kanji symbols are filled you will unlock a special new Ninja ability. This is represented onscreen by a swirling tornado of light and Kanji symbols surrounding your character momentarily followed by a brief explanation of the acquired skill. (See Character Listings in later sections for specifics) Please note that although you will not lose any of these highlighted symbols when spotted, you will lose them all if you are spotted by or harm an innocent Civilian. It is wise to be stealthy instead of just hacking and slashing your way through the levels. Q: What do these Kanji Symbols represent? A: Each symbol of the Kanji represents a power or attribute of the Ninja arts. Below is a translation of the various Kanji symbols. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KANJI - TRANSLATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RIN - Confront PYO - Soldier THO - Battle/Fight SHA - One/Person KAI - Everybody/Entire JIN - Formation RETSU - Row ZAI - Presence ZEN - Forward It is important to note that these Definitions are merely direct translations and do not represent the true meaning of the "Seal of 9 Characters". The 9 Kanji characters do not have independent definitions. The spell only makes sense when you hear them all together in verse as follows: "Nozomeru Hei, tatakau mono, kaijin wo hari, retsu wo tukutte, mae ni ari" Which Means: "Confronting Soldiers, Ones that battle, everybody making a formation, making a row, and is present in front". So in other words, the spell is a warning to the evil spirits that the army of God is nearing, so leave immediately. Credit goes to: Reimaru (Ninja Town) Link: >>> http://www.ashuraonline.com/tenchu/kuji/index.html <<< One last note about filling the Kanji meter. Replaying a level where you have already unlocked the "Special Ability" on a previously saved game will restrict you from seeing the filled Kanji meter animation again. I don't know why they did this but such is life. <<<==-*-=-*-=/*\=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 7. RIKIMARU CHARACTER OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=\*/=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Age: 26 Sex: Male Weapon: Izayoi sword (The Sword of the Azuma. It is passed down from generation to generation to the worthiest of ninjas.) Bio: Leader of the Azuma Shinobi-ryu ninja sect. His thoroughness, patience and bravery have earned him the honor of the Izayoi sword according to the sect's master Shiunsai. Terrifyingly focused and withdrawn, Rikimaru's sense of destiny and composure give him the strength to take on missions that most would consider acts of suicide. Rikimaru is not quite as fast as Ayame but his strength is far superior. To view a Screenshot of Rikimaru simply copy and paste the following link into your browser: >>> http://www.tenchu3.de/english/tenchu3/screens/g70.asp <<< <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> 8. RIKIMARU'S STEALTH KILLS | <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> There are a total of 6 different Stealth Kills that Rikimaru can perform. (A 7th has not been confirmed yet) Which Stealth Kill is triggered when is based on your position or direction in relation to your victim's position and angle. In this section I will explain to you how to execute each and every Stealth Kill from positioning to timing to execution. NOTE: The Difficulty Factor of each Stealth Kill is represented on a scale of 1 - 5 stars. (1= Easy and 5 obviously being the most difficult) \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.1 THROAT SLIT | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: From Behind (Enemy Facing Away) Action Required: Press Square While At Close Range (R1 May be used) Difficulty Factor: * Description: This is the original Stealth Kill that made Rikimaru famous. It is the easiest Stealth Kill to perform and the short cinematic looks as follows. Rikimaru reaches around the front of the guard while simultaneously slicing his throat from end to end with his sword. The sharpness of the blade usually causes the enemy to be decapitated and die very quickly and quietly. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.2 CAN OPENER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Attack Enemy from His/Her Right Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This very cool looking Stealth Kill requires that you to attack the guard from his or her right side. The FMV sequence shows Rikimaru positioning the blade on the guard's neck with the handle of the sword facing up. Next he swings around the front of the guard and around his other side while making it appear that he is using a can opening type of technique on his victim. This kill looks very cool and very painful. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.3 BACK STAB AND FINISHING SLASH | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Attack Enemy From His/Her Left Requirements: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This Stealth Kill is triggered when you attack your enemy from their left-hand side. Executing this Kill treats you to a cutscene that shows Rikimaru thrusting his sword into the enemy's lower back. Then when he pulls his sword out he does it in a way that causes the guard to do a 180 spin. At the end of this spin Rikimaru's blade comes done again slashing the guard from face to stomach. The guard then collapses in a dead heap on the ground. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.4 JUMPING SPINE STABB | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Behind Intended Victim (Sometimes Jumping from any angle) Action Required: Jump + Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This Stealth Kill shows Rikimaru Stabbing the guard in the middle of his back at the end of his jump. Once the blade is stuck in the guard he twists it a full 90 degrees to maximize the victims pain and then yanks it free again. The guard sadly will not be reporting to the news conference later on. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.5 GUTTING STEALTH KILL | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Facing The Enemy From The Front (Or while enemy turns into you) Actions Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This Stealth Kill is executed by attacking your enemy from the front or diagonally from the front. The FMV shows Rikimaru sticking his sword upward into the enemy's lower stomach causing it to jut out of his back. He holds the enemy's head to accommodate the motion. Next he withdraws his sword with such a force that the enemy has no choice but to fall backwards onto the ground and die. This Stealth Kill will award you 1 1/2 Kanji symbols. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 8.6 SKULL PENETRATOR | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Enemy Must Be On A Slope, Incline or uneven surface. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This very gruesome Stealth Kill shows Rikimaru springing onto the enemy's shoulders and then sticking his sword through the top of his skull with a second push so that it sticks out under his chin. Then he withdraws the blade and flips backward off the collapsing guard. You get a real sense of Spiderman watching this cutscene take place. <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 9. RIKIMARU'S KANJI MOVES | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Rikimaru has 9 different Kanji abilities available to him. As mentioned in the "KANJI OVERVIEW" section you will need to fill/highlight your Kanji meter in order to unlock the individual Kanji abilities available in each level. In this section you can find out the details of each Kanji Move. <><><><><><><><><><><> 9.1 SHOULDER THRUST | <><><><><><><><><><><> Mission where Received: "Echigoya" (Mission 1) Button Code: Square (x2), L3 Away + Square Difficulty Factor: *** Description: The SHOULDER THRUST move is an ability that allows you to smash your enemy with your shoulder causing them to be thrown back quite a distance. If there is a wall behind then your enemy will hit it with great force and if there is a pit behind then bye-bye bad guy. The key to executing this Kanji move correctly is in being close enough to your enemy when you press L3 Away and Square. If you are too far away Rikimaru might simply perform his heal kick combo. Hitting someone with this thrust will also buy you some valuable time during which you can make a quick getaway or use/select another Item. TIP: If you are having trouble executing this move fluidly then do the Square (x2) part slower. This should help you master this move. <><><><><><><><><><><> 9.2 NINJITSU BLOCK | <><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Ghoda Castle" (Mission 2) Button Code: Press "Circle" (Right when an enemy begins an attack) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: The usage of this ability must be timed right in order for it to work. Basically it throws your attacking opponent momentarily off balance giving you an opening to land an attack of your own. You must press "Circle" exactly when your enemy launches an attack for it to work. <><><><><><><><><><> 9.3 NINJA VISION | <><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Limestone Caverns" (Mission 3) Button Code: "L1" + R3 (Forward to zoom in and Away to zoom out) Difficulty Factor: * Description: The "NINJA VISION" special ability allows you to see much further than normal almost as though you were looking through a zoom lens. To use this extra feature simply press the "L1" button and press forward and backwards on the "R3" stick to zoom in and out. One distinct advantage to having this ability besides seeing further is also to be able to aim and throw items further. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> 9.4 GRAPPLING HOOK COMBO | <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Ronin Village" (Mission 4) Button Code: 360 Slash combo followed by pressing "Triangle" Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This ability allows you the option of administering endless blows to your victims. How it works is after performing your 360 slash and immediately pressing "Triangle" a type of grappling hook grabs the falling foe and brings him/her back for another dose of pain. You can continuously repeat this process to keep juggling your foe. NOTE: You must connect with the 360 slash for this move to work. (Credit: AnotherGamer) <><><><><><><><><><><><> 9.5 CLING TO CEILING | <><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Amagai Castle" (Mission 5) Button Code: Hold "R1" while grappling up to ceiling. Difficulty Factor: * Description: Basically what this ability allows you to do is grapple up to a flat ceiling and remain up there for a while kind of like how spiderman would except for the fact that your back is to the ceiling. From this vantage point you can drop items onto unsuspecting enemies or even drop down for a surprise kill. Dropping Rice Balls ensures that the enemy will stop right underneath you. Also, keep in mind that you cannot stay up there indefinitely. Your controller will begin to vibrate after about 20 seconds which means you are losing your grip and will be returning to earth soon. (There is no unique Stealth Kill from this vantage point) <><><><><><><><><><> 9.6 FEIGN DEATH | <><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Cemetery" (Mission 6) Button Code: Rotate "L3" 360 degrees and press "R1". Press "Square" when ready to attack. Difficulty Factor: *** Description: The Feign Death ability basically allows you to play dead for an indefinite amount of time. Guards will come to inspect your "dead" corpse and this will give you a great opportunity to attack them by surprise. When you execute this move it will cost you 20 HP and your Health Bar will continuously deplete until there is only 1 HP left. It is advisable to carry some HEALTH POTIONS or a NINJA REBIRTH along when planning on using this ability. Also I have noticed that if you do not attack the inspecting guard quickly enough he will go into "" mode and attack. (There is no unique stealth Kill cutscene associated with this ability) TIP: Use the R3 stick to rotate the camera while you are lying motionless on the ground to see around you. TIP #2: Turn your back on your intended victim before executing the move. After that, a stealth kill is, well, if not guaranteed, at least a lot more probable. The direction in which the nose of your character points is the key to successful completion of this technique. (Credit: Petteri Laasanen) TIP #3: If you are wearing a CHAMELEON SPELL you can actually kill the guard with your initial slash of this move but you need to practically be hugging them for it to work. Also, to get up without slashing press "Circle". (Credit: AnotherGamer) <><><><><><><><><> 9.7 WALL KICK | <><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Bamboo Forest" (Mission 7) Button Code: Jump towards a wall and press "Square" at the wall. Difficulty Factor: ** Description: The wall kick ability is mainly another attack variation for you to use. It works great when used as a surprise attack to an unsuspecting enemy but guards that are in "" mode will block this kick. <><><><><><><><><><><><><> 9.8 NINJA MIND CONTROL | <><><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Great Buddha Temple" (Mission 8) Button Code: Hold "R2" and press: Up, Down, Square. (Use L3 for up, down) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This ability is a little different than what the title implies. You cannot literally control your victim by using this technique. Rather, it will allow you to temporarily stun the guard allowing you time for a Combo, getaway or other special move like the "WRATH OF HEAVEN". If you are facing two or more enemies at the same time and you perform this move on one of them then he will temporarily help you fight the other guard. This can lead to some fun moments especially if you try it on some of the more advanced enemies like the Red Demons or bald Martial Artists. One thing to keep in mind is that the move will only work if Rikimaru strikes the enemy at the end of his spell. Also if your target is in "" mode then he will simply die rather than be affected so make sure you only use it on attacking enemies. <><><><><><><><><><><><> 9.9 WRATH OF HEAVEN | <><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Tenrai Fortress" (Mission 9 and 10) Button Code: "Circle"+"X" simultaneously.(Enemy must be right in front of you) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This special ability will kill any enemy in one hit, but there is a price. Every time you use this ability your HP will be reduced to just 1 meaning if there are multiple enemies around you will die by the slightest hit. Make sure you have some HEALTH POTIONS or a NINJA REBIRTH Items on hand to easily replenish your health. The key to successfully executing this move is being perfectly lined up with your intended victim. Once you have pressed the "Circle + X" Buttons Rikimaru will do his spell pose followed by a thrusting stab forward. If the stab motion hits the enemy then a bolt of lightning will come down from above and kill him/her instantly. If you miss the stab however then the enemy will live and you'll be stuck with just 1 HP left on your Health Bar. This is the most powerful Ability in the game. If you have a BINDING SPELL on hand then your enemies will not be able to avoid this move. NINJA MIND CONTROL on a single guard will also keep him in place long enough for you to successfully perform this move. <<<==-*-=-*-=-/*\-=-*-=-*-==>>> 10. AYAME CHARACTER OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=-\*/-=-*-=-*-==>>> Age: 22 Sex: Female Weapon: Short Swords (Two powerful blades that provide the perfect compliment for her remarkable finesse and lightning speed) Bio: Bold yet quick, silent yet cunning, Ayame has been trained since childhood as a ninja. As sharp with her tongue as she is with her sword, Ayame uses an acrobatic style of ninjitsu to overcome obstacles living or dead. She adores Ghoda's daughter Kiku as if the little girl were her own sister. Ayame is the fastest of the three characters but also the weakest in terms or strength. To view a Screenshot of Ayame simply copy and paste the following link into your browser: >>> http://www.tenchu3.de/english/tenchu3/screens/g89.asp <<< <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 11. AYAME'S STEALTH KILLS | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Ayame can perform 6 different Stealth Kills. (A 7th has not been confirmed) Again, each Stealth Kill is determined based on your positioning in relation to your victim's angle. One notable difference between Ayame's stealth kills is the speed at which she performs them. She is super fast and very acrobatic in her dispatching skills and as a result most of her Stealth Kills are beautiful to watch. Below you will find a concise description for each of Ayame's Stealth Kills. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 11.1 DOUBLE BLADED THROAT SLIT | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from Behind. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: * Description: The cutscene for this Stealth Kill shows Ayame flick her two blades around the front of the enemy's throat from behind and then immediately slashes his/her throat wide open. The force of the move cause the enemy to spin wildly while falling to the ground. Often times a decapitation will occur during this animation. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 11.2 ROLLING THROAT SLITTER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from the Right. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: The cutscene for this very cool Stealth Kill shows Ayame hopping onto the enemy's shoulders in a diagonal way causing the victim to fall of balance and Roll to the ground face down. Ayame immediately lifts the guards head up and slices the throat wide open with her other blade. She then roll backwards off the guard and stands up. This is sweet kill to watch although Ayame is just so quick it seems as though it happens in the blink of an eye. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This fantastic Stealth Kill shows Ayame delivering a solid roundhouse kick to the back of the guards head causing him to buckle forward slightly. As he is bending his head forward Ayame follows through with one of her blades chopping down onto the back of his neck. She then performs a back flip which includes her springing of her hands midway through. The guard collapses in a heap by falling forward. This move allows for some dramatic decapitations. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 11.4 GUT STABBER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from the Front. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: Description: This cutscene shows Ayame forcing both blades into the guards stomach while slightly crouched. She then withdraws them while doing what appears to be a shorter version of the Tornado Spin while the enemy falls face first to the ground. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 11.5 PILE DRIVER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Jump towards the enemy from any angle. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: ** Description: This Stealth Kill is performed by jumping towards your enemy and attacking while in range. The cutscene shows Ayame jumping onto the guards shoulders in a seated position while doing a 180 swivel so that her crotch in his face. She then shifts her weight in one fluid motion causing him to flip backwards and landing pile driver style on his head thereby snapping his neck and scratching another employee off of Tenrai's payroll. Finally she rolls backwards off of her victim while he dies and collapses. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 11.6 ACROBATIC NECK BREAKER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Attack enemy while on a slope, incline or uneven surface. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This incredible move starts out similar to the Jumping kill. Ayame jumps into a seated position on the enemy's neck but then twists his neck with her thighs causing it to snap. She then leaps into the air and lands again on his shoulders, only this time standing, finishes the neck twisting with her feet and then does a front flip off of him while he collapses with his head facing backwards. <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> 12. AYAME'S KANJI MOVES | <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> Ayame also has 9 different Kanji moves available to her. As mentioned in the "KANJI OVERVIEW" section you will need to fill/highlight your Kanji meter in order to unlock the individual Kanji abilities available in each level. In this section you can find out the details of each Kanji Move Ayame has access to and which mission unlocks which ability. Note: Only the first Kanji move differs from Rikimaru's moves. The others are only slightly different in terms of style or how she looks while executing the move <><><><><><><><><><><> 12.1 SOMERSAULT KICK | <><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Bamboo Forest" (Mission 1) Button Code: Press "Square" (x4), then pull L3 in the opposite direction and press "Square" again. Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This is Ayame's equivalent to Rikimaru's "SHOULDER THRUST" move. It is also the only ability that is unique to her only. All of the other abilities are the same as Rikimaru's. The first thing that you will notice is her incredible speed in unloading a 4 hit combo as you press "Square (x4)". Right after that when you pull back and press "Square" for the 5th time you will see Ayame do a backwards somersault while doing an extended double kick to the enemy in front of you. Typically if the hit is executed lawlessly the enemy should be knocked off their feet and fall to the round. The kick resembles a drop kick that is often done by wrestlers although our heroine adds the flip into the mix. <><><><><><><><><><><> 12.2 NINJUTSU BLOCK | <><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Echigoya" (Mission 2) Button Code: Press "Circle" (Right when an enemy begins an attack) Difficulty Factor: * Description: As with Rikimaru this move is identical. The usage of this ability must be timed right in order for it to work. Basically it throws your attacking opponent momentarily off balance giving you an opening to land an attack of your own. You must press "Circle" exactly when your enemy launches an attack for it to work. <><><><><><><><><><><> 12.3 NINJA VISION | <><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Ghoda Castle" (Mission 3) Button Code: "L1 + R3" (Forward to zoom in and Away to zoom out) Difficulty Factor: * Description: As with Rikimaru the "NINJA VISION" special ability is merely the ability to see further almost as though you were looking through a zoom lens. Simply press the "L1" button and press forward and backwards on the "R3" stick to zoom in and out. One distinct advantage to having this ability besides seeing further is also to be able to aim and throw items further. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> 12.4 GRAPPLING HOOK COMBO | <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Cemetery" (Mission 4) Button Code: 360 Slash combo followed by pressing "Triangle" Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This ability allows you the option of administering endless blows to your victims. (Credit: AnotherGamer) <><><><><><><><><><><><> 12.5 CLING TO CEILING | <><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Ronin Village" (Mission 5) Button Code: Hold "R1" while grappling up to ceiling. (There is no unique Stealth Kill from this vantage point) <><><><><><><><><><> 12.6 FEIGN DEATH | <><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Amagai Castle" (Mission 6) Button Code: Rotate "L3" 360 degrees and press "R1". (Credit: AnotherGamer) <><><><><><><><><> 12.7 WALL KICK | <><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Great Buddha Temple" (Mission 7) Button Code: Jump towards a wall and press "Square" at the wall. Difficulty Factor: ** Description: The wall kick ability is mainly another attack variation for you to use. It works great when used as a surprise attack on an unsuspecting enemy but guards that are in "" mode will block this kick. <><><><><><><><><><><><><> 12.8 NINJA MIND CONTROL | <><><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Limestone Caverns" (Mission 8) Button Code: Hold "R2" and press: Up, Down, Square. One thing to keep in mind is that the move will only work if Ayame strikes the enemy at the end of her spell. Also if your target is in "" mode then he will simply die rather than be affected so make sure you only use it on attacking enemies. <><><><><><><><><><><><> 12.9 WRATH OF HEAVEN | <><><><><><><><><><><><> Mission: "Tenrai Fortress" (Mission 9 and 10) Button Code: "Circle + X" simultaneously.(Enemy must be right in front of you) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This special ability will kill any enemy in one hit, but there is a price. Once you have pressed the "Circle + X" Buttons Ayame will do her spell pose followed by a thrusting stab forward. NOTE: Rikimaru's Wrath of Heaven is a single enemy auto-instant kill whereas Ayame's only does a large amount of damage. (60-90 HP) However, Ayame's Wrath of Heaven tends to link from enemy to enemy by having her dash through several of them or slashing towards them. This will continue until there are no more enemies around her. (Credit: AnotherGamer) <<<==-*-=-*-=-/*\-=-*-=-*-==>>> 13. TESSHU CHARACTER OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=-\*/-=-*-=-*-==>>> Full Name: Tesshu Fujioka Age: Unknown Sex: Male Weapon: Hand to Hand Combat + Surgical Pin Bio: Doctor by day, hired assassin by night. He belongs to an underground vigilante group called "Muzen" that will murder for money, but only if it serves justice. Tesshu is the slowest of the three characters but also the strongest. One important fact to keep in mind is that Tesshu's highest ranking is that of "Master Assassin" compared to "Grandmaster" for the other two characters. To view a Screenshot of Tesshu simply copy and paste the following link into your browser: >>> http://www.tenchu3.de/english/tenchu3/screens/g102.asp <<< <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 14. TESSHU'S STEALTH KILLS | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> There are a total of 7 different Stealth Kills that Tesshu can perform. As with the other playable characters the type of Stealth Kill that gets triggered is dependent on your position in relation to your victim. One very distinct difference with Tesshu's kills is that you are not awarded Kanji Symbols for executing them without being spotted. Rather you are rewarded by gold coins which you will see tallied up at the lower left portion of your screen. The reason for this is that Tesshu is not a Ninja but rather a mercenary who is an assassin for hire, hence the money aspect. Fear not though as Tesshu boasts some of the most incredible Stealth Kills and weapons in the entire game. Most of his Stealth kills involve bone shattering Hand to Hand combat moves which are highlighted by mini X-Ray clips showing the internal damage while you are watching the individual Stealth Kill animations. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.1 SKULL PENETRATOR | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from Behind. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: * Description: This cutscene shows Tesshu reaching around the front of the guard and grabbing his throat. Next he holds up a spike like needle and proceeds to stab the guard right below the skull while he is flailing wildly in an attempt to break free. The X-ray snapshot shows the needle penetrating the lower part of the skull by the first vertebrae. Tesshu then yanks the needle back out and faces away while the dying victim falls to the ground. Tesshu stares intently at the needle while the guard collapses dead on the ground. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.2 MULTIPLE BONE BREAKER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from the Left. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This very complex Stealth Kill shows Tesshu grabbing the left arm of the guard and breaking his wrist (Shown via X-ray snapshot). Next he twirls the guard around so as to slightly throw him off balance and then he breaks his elbow. (Also shown via x-ray). Lastly he grabs the enemy's head from behind with both hands breaking his neck (shown by X-ray) by twisting his head completely backwards. The guard then staggers forward a few steps before collapsing to the floor in a dead and broken up heap. Next he strikes the guy into his lower back. The X-ray snapshot shows both of Tesshu's hands infiltrating his spinal column and then quickly snapping several vertebrae's loose. The guard collapses and dies while Tesshu takes one step back, puts his palms together and slightly bows his head forward almost as if out of respect for his fallen victim. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.4 HEART ATTACK | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Approach enemy from the Front. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This most brutal Stealth Kill shows Tesshu grabbing the enemy by The right side of his/her neck's pressure point thereby immobilizing him/her. Them with a perfect finger strike he sticks his right hand into the enemy's chest. The X-ray snapshots show Tesshu's hand entering the chest cavity and grabbing the heart of his foe. Tesshu then rips the beating heart out of his enemy's chest and watches him collapse and die. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.5 SPINE SEPERATOR | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Jump towards enemy from any angle. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: ** Description: This cutscene shows Tesshu forcing the guard face down into the ground. Next he hits the enemy with a barehanded finger strike to the lower back. The X-ray snapshots show the guard's spine reacting to Tesshu's skillful strike which causes two of the vertebrae's to be completely severed. Tesshu then stands up and looks down on his victim. \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.6 PAY THE PIPER | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Attack enemy while on a slope, incline or uneven surface. Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This devastatingly painful Stealth Kill shows Tesshu hopping onto the enemy's shoulders in a seated position while drawing his spike like needle and then stabbing the guy in the top of his neck right beneath the skull. The x-ray snapshot takes over showing the spike penetrating the top vertebrae. Tesshu then hops off of the collapsing foe. (This Stealth Kill is very similar to the Jumping kill with the exception of Tesshu being seated on the enemy's shoulders) \|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/\|/ 14.7 HANG 'EM HIGH | /|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\/|\ Positioning: Any Angle Or Direction Item Required: "Kumihimo" (Unlocked after Grand Mastering 2nd Mission) Action Required: Equip Kumihimo, aim, fire and enjoy the show. Description: Once you have aimed the Kumihimo and fired it off at your unsuspecting victim the cutscene will kick in. It will show the wire stringing your enemy up in the background as Tesshu pulls downward on his end. The string always appears as though it is over a branch or beam to create this pulley effect. The guard dangles by his neck and Tesshu gives it a final tug to ensure that the deed has been done. The last thing you see is the guards feet relax before Tesshu allows him to fall lifelessly back to the floor. NOTE: If you use this Item on a guard who is in "" mode it will only deplete half of his HP and therefor not count as a Stealth Kill. <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 15. TESSHU'S SPECIAL MOVES | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Unlike Rikimaru and Ayame, Tesshu does not have a Kanji meter at the bottom of the screen and therefor also no special Kanji moves. Instead you will see a golden coin with a white ribbon in the lower left portion of your screen along with a counter. The counter keeps track of the money you have accumulated from you dead enemies. As mentioned in Tesshu's Stealth kill section you will be able to collect money from enemies who you have Stealthily dispatched. This money can be used purchase Items for the next mission. Left over Items will be sold back and turned into money again. However, Tesshu has several unique abilities available only to him. This section will examine each one in detail. You can release the punch at any point until it is fully charged and then he will unleash a furious right hand. Enemies who are unfortunate enough to find themselves on the wrong end of this punch will feel the effects. The animals that you can mimic are: Rooster, cat, (More to come) <><><><><><><><><><> 15.4 POWER BLOCK | <><><><><><><><><><> Button Code: Press "Circle" immediately when enemy attacks. USING WEAPONS TO STEALTH KILL | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> The only weapons that can kill an enemy Stealthily in one shot are the BLOW GUN and Tesshu's KUMIHIMO and BAMBOO GUN. However if you are patient enough you can use some of the other Weapons and Items to slowly break your enemy's health down bit by bit until they die without being spotted. The key of course is to remain at a safe enough distance and making sure that the enemy only takes damage while in "" mode. Once the guard is hit he will immediately go into "" mode. During this time just stay out of sight and wait for him to calm back down. As soon as he goes back into "" mode you can strike again. Repeat this process to slowly take his health away and ultimately kill him. '-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-' | WEAPONS THAT CAN KILL FROM AFAR: | ,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-,-, BLOW GUN - Kills the enemy in one shot and award you with 1/2 Kanji symbol provided he/she is in <"?"> mode. If alerted before being shot it will simply poison your victim and slowly drain their HP while it is green in color until they die or it wears off. KUMIHIMO - Kills an unsuspecting enemy by stringing him up by the neck until he dies. See Tesshu's 7th Stealth Kill (Section 14.7) for a concise description. BAMBOO GUN - This Item is exclusively for use by Tesshu and cannot be aimed. If you shoot your average enemy with this Item he/she will die immediately. (Even if an enemy is in "" mode, one shot will kill him/her. SHURIKEN - Takes three to five to kill one guard. (Dogs and Wolves will die with one shuriken if they are unaware of your presence) The same applies to Tesshu's THROWING NEEDLES as they have the same exact effect. MINES - Takes one to two to finish the job (Ideally dropped from above but can be planted in a patrolling guard's path) GRENADES - Takes two to three typically but it is very hard to remain undetected while throwing grenades. ARROWS - Takes two to four typically to finish your enemy off. (Dogs and Wolves die in one shot if unaware of your presence) FLAMING ARROWS - Takes two typically to finish your enemy off. (Dogs and Wolves die in one shot if unaware of your presence) POISONED RICE - It will take a minimum of two to poison a guard to death. Dogs and wolves will die with just one helping. NOTE: Some guards will not eat a second one as they are not all that dumb. Beware not to lure innocent civilians to this meal of the damned. STICKY BOMBS - One to two should do the job. Simply aim and strike your target and then press "R3" when you are ready to detonate it. Other guards might follow your victim around, seemingly amused by the pin wheel effect of the bomb and this can help you kill multiple enemies simultaneously depending on their remaining HP before detonation. (Dogs and Wolves, you got it) FIRE SPELL - This item will inflict serious damage but is difficult to use in stealth as the range in immediately in front of you. If you are on the edge of a roof or cliff and there is an enemy directly below you then one of these will do the job. DOG BONE - Summoning Semimaru by using this Item will assist you in killing enemies. If you stay out of sight and use this Item Semimaru will continuously attack the guard who will not retaliate. (He may block a few bites though) Semimaru will howl just prior to disappearing. 1 Dog Bone Item will almost kill an enemy guard but a second surely will finish the job. TETSUBISHI - This Items is a variation of the GRAPPLING HOOK which literally hooks your victim and pulls him to you. (Similar to the move Scorpion used in "Mortal Combat") If the enemy is unaware when you strike him with this Item then you can Stealth Kill him with one slash. You must act quickly though because the guard goes into "" mode immediately upon being hooked. <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 17. Surprisingly you don't need to have both players press "Square" simultaneously to trigger the dual Stealth Kill. All that is required is that one character needs to be right up to the victim when pressing "Square" while your partner just needs to be slightly trailing you within a couple steps of range. Lastly, while crossing each other's path in an X pattern, they both charge up for the final strike which shows Rikimaru slashing the enemy from the front whilst Ayame slashes him from behind. The enemy slightly bends his head forward in reaction and Tesshu immediately grabs his neck while simultaneously locking his arm and twisting it up his back causing it to break. Meanwhile Ayame runs up and jumps off of Tesshu's back while Tesshu lifts the guard's head back so that he is facing the sky. At this point Ayame descends in a dive while thrusting both of her blades into the enemy's stomach and then immediately doing several flips off of him.
