They are red, blue, white, and green. ---Red Icons--- Only one size and they give you a special attack. Helpful if you are standing near one, use a special, get another one, and attack again. ---Blue Icons--- These come in three sizes: A ball, icon, glowing icon. They give you 5, 25, 100 points of energy respectively. Filling up your energy bar completely will also give you a special attack. --Green Icons--- These, like blue, come in the same three sizes and do the same thing for your health. You can easily have one health left, get a +100 health and battle for another 10 minutes. ---White Icons--- This only comes in one size and appears in only one place in every level. It temporarily will make you invisible and you can't be locked-on to. Helpful against the computer since they usually don't hit you with attacks and even better when fighting another person. =============================================================================== 2) Adventure Mode Walkthrough =============================================================================== Battle 1: Congar at Midtown Park Opening Sequence: Congar chases after some police cars and trucks. He grabs a truck and is meet by some tanks. He destroys the truck and is shot at by the tanks. He does a Congar Roar to destroy them all. Next, he climbs to the top of a building and destroys a helicopter with an antenna. Next, two helicopters grapple his arms and are quickly destroyed. Strategy: Congar isn't much of a challenge, just get used to the controls. Tokens: 2,000-5,000 --------- Battle 2: Togera then Robo 47 at Gamblers Gulch Opening Sequence: Togera stomps on a tank and throws another one at a helicopter. He then destroys another helicopter with is spikes. Strategy: Nothing that is too hard with Togera, he seems to get a lot of health icons, don't let him. Entering Sequence: Robo 47 and the army come in and Robo 47 commands then to attack. Strategy: Kill all of the army! They are powerful and will quickly kill you. Run in the middle of them and use a close range special, or throw stuff at them. Take care of them first. Then, fight Robo 47 like you would any other monster. See section "Cool Stuff" for weapons and stuff in this level. Tokens: 6,000-8,000 -------- Battle 3: 8 mini Preytors and a Boss at Rosdale Canyon Opening Sequence: You see three mini Preytors come out of a hole in the ground. Strategy: Nothing here, they are extremely easy --First Boss Battle-- Entering Sequence: He flies in and lands on top of the bunker. The boss has the following moves: 1. Throws bombs at you (only on top of bunker) 2. Kneels down and aims his blades at you, he then charges at you 3. A grab and either a throw or a few punches. 4. A 3-hit combo 5. He shoots missiles at you 6. He transforms into something like this --()-- and spins around while coming at you. First, this boss will throw bombs at you. Grab the first one (with circle), move, throw it at him, catch the third one and then throw it at him. He throws three of them right after each other. Continue this until he falls into the bunker and breaks out. Now, he will only use his second attack until he had about half of his health left. Just hid behind the pillars or throw the boulder at him while he is charging up to attack. The boulder can be found on top of a pillar and will stop the attack. Continue this until he does other attacks. Mainly, the boulder is the best way to kill him. To avoid attack #6, stand on top of a pillar. Watch out, as it will break after a short while. Block to stop the combo and, again, hide behind a pillar when he uses the missile attack, he will soon fall. *NOTE* You can stop any of his attacks by hitting him with the boulder. If you are lucky, sometimes you can stand in front of him, throw the boulder at him, get it back, throw it at him again. Repeat until he is dead. Tokens: 6,000-8,000 -------- Battle 4: Preytor and a Congar at Metro City Opening Sequence: Preytor is flying around being chased by two helicopters. He land on a building and smashes them both. Then, two more helicopters drop a large box that shakes and Metal Congar breaks out. Strategy: This is a tough one. Start off with a long-range special and then climb the building on your left. At the top, you should find an antenna. Jump to the next one and grab the special power up and unleash another special. Be warned...many helicopters hang around these center four buildings, and nowhere else. Try to take Congar out since he is the stronger of the two. Use the many antennas to impale him and then attack. Look for trucks that will explode on contact, as they cause a lot of damage. They look like a truck with a tube on its back, carrying oil. Use the many throwables and buildings to your advantage. Then, take care of Preytor. Tokens: 5,000-8,000 -------- Battle 5: Two Raptros' at Century Airfield Opening Sequence: A Raptros grabs a landing plane and smashes it against a building. You see another one on top of the other radio tower. Strategy: This is a hard battle. One starts close to you while the other is far away. Make use of the many exploding trucks I mentioned before. If you are ever on fire, jump in the water to settle the flames. Try to take one out, since together they are fairly strong. They can fly, just be on the watch for that. There are many antennas at your disposal. Tokens: 4,000-7,000 -------- Battle 6: Many Kineticlops' and a Boss at Atomic Island Opening Sequence: 5 or so Kineticlops' emerge from reactor towers. Strategy: Again, since there are a lot of them, they are easy. To beat this, destroy all 5 reactor towers. The place will soon have a core meltdown and explode. Have an exploding truck in your hand to make the boss fight easier. --Second Boss Battle-- Entering Sequence: A huge three-headed plant monster sprouts and screams. This boss has the following moves: 1. Shoots goo that breaks into smaller goo and attacks you 2. A head lunges and chews you 3. Roots attack you Strategy: This boss is very easy as soon as you learn the pattern. The pattern is: With 3 heads: 2 goo attacks, then bites With 2 heads: 3 goo attacks, then bites With 1 head: 5 goo attacks, then bites To damage the monster, pick up some rubble, avoid/dodge the goo attacks and throw it (lock on and it will lock onto the right head) when he opens his mouth to bite you. Do this twice on each head and you won. Also, the outside of the crater is electric. Simple, right? *NOTE* If you have an explosive truck or are in the process of grabbing one when the countdown equals zero, you will have it during the boss fight. It should do enough damage to kill a head with one throw. Tokens: 15,000-18,000 -------- Battle 7: Two Robo-47's at Baytown Opening Sequence: Some aliens blow up some tanks and then the Robo-47's kill UFO's Strategy: The Robo-47's like to stay together, keep note of that. Focus on one at a time because as soon as one of them is dead, the other one is that much weaker. The tallest building has 3 antennas and an electrocution thing on it. Good to wear one of them down. Other than that, they aren't too hard. Tokens: 6,000-8,000 -------- Battle 8: Agamo and Magmo at Club Caldera Opening Sequence: Agamo is thrown through a building and the two start punching. Magmo is then thrown into a building, and lands in front of you. Strategy: Make sure to kill the UFO's. I found that the volcano is the easiest place because they come down low. Cause a volcanic eruption by doing a Jump, Up+Triangle on a mini-volcano look alike. Also, the boat in the sea can be smashed into big throwable pieces. Again, focus on one of them, then the other. They are both very slow. Tokens: 5,000-7,000 -------- Battle 9: Two Ultra-V's at Tsunopolis Opening Sequence: An Ultra-V jumps down a few buildings and lands in front of you. Another one appears behind you wielding a sword. Strategy: Causing a tsunami (see Enviromental Attacks) will help you a lot in this battle. The Ultra-V's don't seem to stay together, other than that, this isn't a very hard battle. Like with all 2-1 battles, focus on one, rather than both. Remember that you have 3 lives and unlimited continues. Don't get discouraged. Tokens: 5,000-7,000 -------- Battle 10: Three Zorgulons at UFO Opening Sequence: The UFO you're on attaches to a mothership and you appear surrounded by three aliens. Strategy: Use a close-range special right away, and get the special powerup, right in front of you. These aliens are strong together, but very weak alone. Try to space them out and kill one at a time. Watch out for the lasers in the places next to the ramps. UFO's will attack you on the top level. Not to difficult here. Ending Sequence: The mothership explodes and damages the UFO you are escaping on. You then crash land on Earth. Tokens: 5,000-7,000 -------- Battle 11: Final Boss, Cerebulon at Capital Opening Sequence: A giant robot comes out of the crashed ship, and destroys a tall pillar. This monster has three forms. Each form has different attacks and different strategies. Read on. Form one: Giant Robot As a robot the only attack he uses is a laser attack. Scramble for a throwable object and run, hid behind a pillar when he stops moving. You will get hurt, but not a lot. After the attack, Cerebulon will kneel and the shield around his brain will go away, throw stuff at him. Continue until the next scene *Cerebulon's robot loses its arms and legs Form Two: Robot without arms or legs This is the easiest form. Look for the giant pieces of his robot and throw it at him, they are the only thing that will hurt him. You will probably be attacked two or three times. *Cerebulon ditches the robot Form Three: Cerebulon This is a hard form. Remember, if you die, you will continue on this form. That is a good thing. He will usually only use a 10-hit combo that will drain nearly half of your life. Just block it and come back with a combo of your own. Fight him like any other monster. Tokens: 30,000-50,000 ---Different Strategies--- Congar: "I was using Congar on the easy difficulty. When fighting the last boss I found his first form to be the easiest. If you were facing the large building from the crashed U.F.O. I would first hide behind the farthest left pillar. I would use my ranged special (O+/\) then grab the large blue icon and hide behind the next pillar. I would use my special again then run toward the large building and hide in the corner. He would destroy it and I would get the red pick-up and use my special again. Then I would run and get three small blue orbs and hide behind a pillar. I would use my special again and he would collapse. For the next form I would throw the large glowing pieces until he came after me. I would run and sometimes managed to throw the pieces 4-5 times before he caught me. The last form i would run from him and keep taking pick-ups that would refill my ranged special (O+/\) and keep using that!" Thanks JD! -------- Congratulations! You have beaten Adventure mode. Also, tokens are based on Easy difficulty. You will also get a short movie on the monsters origin, cool stuff! =============================================================================== 3) Endurance Mode =============================================================================== It seems that a lot of people like to use Congar for this because he is a well- rounded character. These are just strategies I have gotten from people: "I just got 108,710 tokens, 50 kills, 30-45 minutes. I used Congar in Midtown City. Tip 1: To kill Kinteticlops, use two sonic roars and a punch or two. Tip 2: To kill Togera, use three sonic roars. Tip 3: Square, square, up+triangle will also help. First you'll do two punches, then a move that'll make your opponent dizzy. From there, you can do whatever you want. I do a throw with a couple of hits. I tried to do the same thing with Togera on what I did with Kinteticlops. It didn't work." Thanks dondon534! "Also an easy way of earning lots of coins is fighting Endurance with Congar (a well rounded character). I myself earned an easy 96,341 tokens after 40+ wins. Not very hard, and plus it was in Tsunopolis. I use the tidal wave to my advantage on that level. Usually I get on a very tall skyscraper, wait for your opponent to get up to you, throw an object before they reach you at the UFO (to trigger the tsunami) and when they finally get up to you, uppercut them or knock them off by some means (I do Congars Sonic Scream to make them go flying back down and hit the wave at the same time for extra damage)." Thanks LiquidNitrogen! "In endurance, go to Midtown Park. The giant health respawns about every 2 and a half minutes (exact time unknown) usually you can go through about 7 guys.. and there's a 25% health in the level too at one of the corners. You SHOULD never die.. and with all of the little pickups.. once the cities decimated you should have ZERO trouble." Thanks Ezekial Rage! "I've found an extremely easy (though rather cheap) way to rack up nearly 60+ wins in Endurance mode. Use Robo 47, and go to the first level. All 60+ you have to do is grab a spear and impale someone with it. Walk up in their face as they try to pull it out, and once they pull it out, use Robo's missile special on them. They should drop the spear and go quite a long ways. Find another special attack orb or a +50 energy and then use the spear again to impale them once more. After that, they usually fall after one of his combos. Preytor shouldn't even survive the second bomb, and neither should Kineticlops. As you destroy more of the town, it gets easier to kill everyone, but after you kill about 35 monsters, there won't be many spears left over. At this point, simply use his [],[],[],Down + /\ combo, or throw rubble and any left over gas tanks at the monsters. I racked up roughly 125,000 tokens using this." Thanks J.R.T! =============================================================================== 4) Enviromental Attacks =============================================================================== Earthquake In Baytown: I got this following strategy from MetalGearRay on the message boards: "This might have been posted already, and if it has, this topic will die a slow death. Anyways, my brothers and I are 99.9% sure that in order to cause the earthquake, you must do this simple technique: First, I'll explain something about Baytown. Every time you destroy something (a tree, billboard, car, anything), you get "damage points". If you're in two player mode, the points aren't cumulative-they are seperately counted for each monster, as each monster destroys stuff. Certain things give more "damage points". Now here's my catch--my brothers and I figured out that Baytown has only enough "damage points" for one monster to get. What that means is that if you run around with only one monster, destroying the city, you'll cause the earthquake. If you do it with two, you won't. This is because there's not enough "damage points" available in Baytown to split between both monsters and reach the necessary "earthquake trigger" TIP: If you're going to trigger the earthquake during a two player match, just have one guy run around destroying things while the other puts the controller down and waits for the other player to reach the "earthquake trigger." Now, some things in the city are worth more points than others. If you want to start the earthquake faster, first destroy the higher-point structures. You could just start destroying everything, but that takes more time than going after good stuff. Here are some things that give you a lot of "damage points." -The tall buildings -Trees -Billboards -The pillars by the monument -The buildings by the docks Anyways, I hope that helps anyone having trouble. Basically, get one guy and run around blowing stuff up. The reason I had so much trouble causing the earthquake was that my brother and I would BOTH run around blowing things up, which as I explained can't work. So yeah, I thought I'd explain that." Thanks a lot MetalGearRay! Vent the Steam in Baytown: After you have triggered the earthquake, go to the top left of the arena. The monument used to be here. You should see a large circular part of the destroyed monument. It has three steam pipes around it. Dive bomb (Jump, Up+Triangle) on it and it should say "Steam Venting" in the top left of the screen. All around the big hole steam will be coming out of the pipes. The steam is hot and packs quite a punch. Volcanic Eruption in Club Caldera and Volcano: Go to the volcano and see the things that look like mini volcanoes? They are inside the volcano and are pretty big. You can't miss them. Well, go on one of them, Jump, and do the Up+Triangle move to dive down on them. There you go! It will shoot burning rocks onto the city. You can do it when the mini thing pops back up again. Tsunami in Tsunopolis: Grab something throwable and move around the outside, on the beach. You should see a large UFO, aim at it with the right analog stick, and throw your item. It should shoot a green laser down and cause a tsunami! You need to get to a high building to avoid it. It does decent damage and hits the whole city. Vent the Reactor in Atomic Island: On the right side of the power plant, there is a large building with a button on it. Use your Jump, Up+Triangle attack to push it. The middle of the arena will fill with radioactive goo and greatly damage anybody who touches it, this means you. =============================================================================== 5) Unlocks =============================================================================== Two monsters: Raptros and Zorgulon Four skins for every monster Three minigames (Big Shot, Dodgeball, Crush-o-Rama) Four levels (Capital, UFO, Volcano, Mini Baytown) Agamo's fourth costume, can't buy it Unlocking Mecha Sweet Tooth: Wondering how to get Agamo's "special" fourth costume? If you have a Twisted Metal: Black save on your memory card and you've beaten Sweet Tooth's storyline in the game, a message will appear on start up saying that you've unlocked him. He has the same moves as Agamo, basically." Thanks DSX! Costumes 2. Raptros 3. Places 4. Mini-Games 5. Zorgulon It is just that the costumes are really cool and the mini-games aren't that great. Raptros is a very cool character to play with and Zorgulon isn't that great. Only get him earlier if you like aliens or Mars Attacks (he looks like those aliens.) =============================================================================== 6) Mini-Games =============================================================================== Big Shot: (65,000 tokens) Aim for a building and use your monsters Up,Up,Triangle to go flying! Hit triangle in midair so you don't overshoot your target. It is harder then it sounds. Just go try it! Dodgeball: (105,000 tokens) Immediatly go forward to grab the ball and lock-on and throw it at your opponent. Not much of a strategy here. Dodge the ball, hence the name, and throw it at your enemy. Three hits and you win. Crush-o-Rama: (85,000 tokens) You are dropped in a small section of a city and you must destroy more of it than your opponent. Triangle attacks are good here and so is the Up,Up,Triangle move. Whoever destroyed the most stuff wins! =============================================================================== 7) Cool Stuff/Hints =============================================================================== Get All Items With Only 200,000 Tokens!! "I read your post about the War of the Monsters website. I found a trick that you might want to include in your War of the Monsters FAQ. I found this by accident. It is a trick that you can unlock everything in the game with just 200,000 tokens. You need two memory cards for this trick. 1. Get a game with at least 200,000 tokens. 2. Buy everything you can but save it to the second memory card. 3. When you run out of tokens, go to the options screen load the settings from the first memory card and buy more stuff. 4. For the extra characters, buy their first costume. 5. Load the first memory cards settings again. 6. Buy the cheapest thing in the unlockables. 7. Load the second memory cards settings. 8. Buy the rest of their costumes on the second memory card. REMEMBER TO SAVE STUFF YOU BUY ON THE SECOND MEMORY CARD!! Everything you buy will be will be saved on the second memory card and not erased everytime you save. Keep track of what you buy because the first memory card won't say what you unlocked. Check the second memory card to see what you unlocked." -Draco7182 Atomic Island: "Try blowing up the reactor in the center of the island. Doing so will release a large blue energy beam. Jump on top of the reactor and your energy will be charged up as long as you stay in the blue beam." Thanks DSX! Gamblers Gulch: Near the old-style house, there is a sword in a rock or something. Smash it out and use it as a great melee weapon! See that dragon on the building? Well, it can be used as a weapon. Break it off and throw it at your enemy, it will explode! There is a huge boulder on a building, roll it around onto other cars or monsters. Club Caldera and Volcano: See that giant ship in the ocean? You can smash it and it breaks into a few huge throwable pieces! Kineticlops: A security guard was paroling and a UFO crashed into some huge powerlines where he was. He checked it out and got electricuted and mixed with the alien radiation. Ultra V: Some Japanese scientists were creating a robot to fight back against the aliens. They infused his head with alien radiation, he came to life, and ended up being evil. Go figure. Agamo: "A lone worshiper ascends to the summit of the mighty Tiki Idol bearing the alien fuel. He pours it into the fires atop the Tiki Idol's head as a sacrifice to the Idol. Then to his amazement the Idol awakens and crushes the foolish mortal as he strides towards the horizon." Thanks IronwolfW! Magmo: "A damaged spacecraft crashlands in a Volcano, the escaping radiation of the spacecraft combines with the Lava and Magmo is born." Thanks IronwolfW! Togera: He was peacefully sleeping at the bottom of the ocean when a sinking UFO hit him. Radiation from the spacecraft was sucked into the slumbering Togera's nostrils causing him to awaken and wreak havoc." Thanks IronwolfW Robo-47: "A decommisioned robot for the atomic age, he was placed in a warehouse without planned future use. A damaged alien craft landed nearby, and the radio-active air from the craft seeped into his circuitry, awakening him from his slumber." Thanks Ezekial Rage Preytor: " A lone scientist experimenting with the alien radiation injects it into a common praying mantis. The Mantis suddenly grows to 50 ft tall and devours the scientist." Thanks LonewolfW! Zorgulon: (no origin) Raptros: (no origin) =============================================================================== 10) Frequently Asked Questions =============================================================================== Q: "Is any one making a FAQ?" A: Yes, I did, you're reading it Q: "What is War of the Monsters?" A: It is a Playstation 2 fighter game where you use 100 foot tall monsters. Think Godzilla vs. Rodan or something, yeah, that's what it is like. Q: "How do I trigger the earthquake?" A: See section "Environmential Attacks. Q: "What does Mecha Sweetooth look like?" A: All it really is is a semi-Sweettooth-looking face (with a little clown nose) with a big iron mace for one hand, complete with white armor with light pink polkadots. He also has the same laugh as Sweettooth, which is kinda cool. Q: "Can I host your FAQ on my site?" A: Unless your site is at the bottom, no. I am through with letting sites host this FAQ since it is becoming too much of a hassle for me.
