Updates --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ver. 1.00 - started this, my first FAQs --------------------------------------------------------------------- 3a. About Xing Cai - in Romance of the Three Kingdoms --------------------------------------------------------------------- The character, Xing Cai, is a fictional name given to the daughter of Zhang Fei. In the historic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, she was married to Liu Shan (or Liu Chan in the Dynasty series) and became known as the elder Empress Zhang, daughter of Zhang Fei and Lady Xiahou. Her actual name is unknown, and the title "Empress Zhang" may refer to her and her younger sister, whom is known as the latter Empress Zhang. Xing Cai bore no children before her death, after which Liu Shan took on her sister as consort. Her name is pronounced "zh-ing sigh". --------------------------------------------------------------------- 3b. About Xing Cai - in the Dynasty Warriors Series --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai made her debut in Dynasty Warriors 5, which came out in 2005 for both the Playstation 2 and the X-box game consoles. She appears on the cover of this game as well as on the cover for Dynasty Warriors, Vol. 2 for the Playstation Portable. She wields a two-pronged fork in battle. The game hints at a budding relationship between Xing Cai and Guan Ping, the adopted son of Guan Yu. However, this relationship has no basis in the historic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. However, a relationship is portrayed between Xing Cai and her future husband, Liu Chan, closer to the end of her personal story within Dynasty Warriors 5. Xing Cai also appears in Warriors Orochi, which debuted in 2007 for both the Playstation 2 and the X-box 360 game consoles. In it, she plays a part as one of the three officers to rescue Shu general Zhao Yun from Ueda Castle in the first Shu story. She is a Speed-type character, who has a high default level of both Musou and Speed. Her Life, Attack, and Defense default levels are all moderate. These may be enhanced through the equipping of gained Abilities, the enhancing of her weapon, or the obtaining of her Personal Item. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Unlocking Xing Cai --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai is a default character, automatically made available by starting and completing the first battle in the Shu Story Mode. No additional in-battle requirements must be met in order to unlock her. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5a. Xing Cai's Moveset - Ground & Air Attacks --------------------------------------------------------------------- Through the punching in of the [Square] button, you may form a variety of similar attacks with Xing Cai. These attacks may vary upon obtaining her full combination of attacks. [S] = [Square] button [X] = [X] button In the midst of attacking, you may press the [X] button to jump into the air and thus evade any attack on the ground. Press the [X] button while you jump to move about midair. Press the [L2] button to guard, whether on the ground or on horseback. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5b. Xing Cai's Moveset - Charge Attacks --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai's charge attacks may be formed through the combination of punching of the [Square] + [Triangle] buttons. These attacks may vary upon obtaining her full combination of attacks. [S] = [Square] button [T] = [Triangle] button [S] + [T] - Xing Cai swipes forward with her weapon and ends with a jab of it towards the enemy. [S] + [S] + [T] + [T] - Xing Cai swipes away at her enemies three times before throwing her shield forward like a boomerang, such as what Da Qiao does for her Musou attack. [S] + [S] + [S] + [s] + [T] + [T] - Xing Cai swipes away twice, jabs forward with her battle fork, and then sends off a shockwave with a final jab forward. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5c. Xing Cai's Moveset - Mounted Attacks --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai's long weapon, the fork, allows her to attack from the back of a horse on both sides. She swipes away at enemies on each side alternately, unlike some characters that are only capable of attacking on a single side alone. With high attributes and the Cavalier Ability equipped, she may win the battle alone on horseback. [S] = [Square] button [T] = [Triangle] button [X] = [X] button [S] = Xing Cai swipes first at her right side. Press this continually, and she will alternately swipe at each side. [T] while standing still - Xing Cai's horse rears up and stomps forward, taking down closeby enemies. [T] while in motion - Xing Cai's horse leaps up and stomps forward. This will allow you to jump over some obstacles as well as leaping into a mass of enemies while still a small distance away. Press the [L2] button to guard, whether on the ground or on horseback. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5d. Xing Cai's Moveset - Musou & R1 Special Attacks --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai's Special Attacks may be powerful if you know how to use them correctly and in the right situations. For example, I was able to defeat powerful enemy officers, such as Lu Bu and Orochi, with her R1 special attack alone. Musou - Xing Cai swipes her battle fork from side to side, hitting any closeby enemies into the air and battering away at them. True Musou - Musou on Horseback - Xing Cai and her horse charge forward, and her weapon makes quick and deadly swipes alternately at each side. R1 Attack - Xing Cai jabs forward with her shield, breaking guards. If you press [l] or [forward] with the joystick at the same time, she backflips after the jab, releasing a shockwave. Thus, it leaves at a safe distance from the enemies in front of her upon landing. This Attack requires the use of musou. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Xing Cai's Weapons --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai runs into battle with the battle fork and a large shield. Her attack may not be so high at first, but with some leveling up and the acquiring and fusing of new weapons with helpful attributes, Xing Cai is a warrior to be feared on the battlefield. Xing Cai's default weapon is the Long Fork. It has a Base Attack of 9 and up 20 points more may be added through the fusion of weapons. More Long Fork weapons may be obtained in battle from any story for any Kingdom at with an initial difficulty of 1 to 3 stars. Xing Cai's second weapon is the Cobra Fork. It has a Base Attack of 19 and up to 20 points more may be added through the fusion of weapons. More Cobra Fork weapons may be obtained in battle from any story for any Kingdom with an initial difficulty of 2 to 4 stars. Xing Cai's third weapon is the Sacred Light. It has a Base Attack of 38 and up to 20 points more may be added through the fusion of weapons. More Sacred Light weapons may be obtained in battle from any story for any Kingdom with an initial difficulty of 4 to 5 stars. Xing Cai's ultimate weapon is the Ambition. It has a Base Attack of 76 and up to 20 points more may be added through the fusion of weapons. This weapon can only be obtained in the Hard or Chaos modes, ONLY in any story for any Kingdom with an initial difficulty of 3 to 5 stars. Xing Cai's success in battle may depend on the fusion of weapons. In doing so, you add attribute slots and attack to the base weapon. The amount added depends on how many attribute slots and attack points originate on the weapon you are fusing to the base weapon. For example, if you are fusing a Cobra Fork with a "+5" additional attack points and 3 attribute slots to a Sacred Light with "+15" additional attack points and 4 attribute slots, you may add up to 5 attack points and 3 weapon slots to the base weapon. If the weapon you are fusing to another does not have any "+#" additional attack points, you will only be allowed to add "+1" additional attack point. However, you may not exceed "+20" additional attack points and 8 attribute slots. Available Weapon Attributes are as follows: Absorb - absorbs enemy musou Air - increases attack against airborne enemies Agility - increases attack speed Bolt - releases lightning bolts Brave - increases attack strength against enemy officers Drain - absorbs enemy Life Flame - inflicts additional damage with fire Flash - disables enemy weapon blocks Ice - occassionally freezes enemies Might - increases attack strength Multi - produces doppelgangers to join attack Rage - increases attack the lower your Life Range - increases attack range Slay - inflicts significant damage Because there are only a maximum of eight weapon attribute slots available per weapon, only eight weapon attributes may be equipped onto a single weapon. Up to 10 "points" per weapon attribute may be fused into the weapon. I'd suggest the following weapon attributes for any of Xing Cai's weapons: Agility Flame Brave Flash Might Rage Range Slay However, you may experiment around and find which weapon attributes you find are best when you use Xing Cai on the battlefield. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Obtaining Xing Cai's Abilities --------------------------------------------------------------------- It is through gaining the Abilities that you may increase your character's performance in battle. Each character in the game has either 3 or 4 Abilities to earn by meeting particular criteria in battle with that character alone. These criteria may be met in any battle and in any level of difficulty. Xing Cai's first Ability is Technique, which increases the special attacks of Technique-type officers if "equipped". In order to obtain this, you must defeat any three enemy officers in the course of a single battle. Then finish the battle without failure. Xing Cai's second Ability is Impulse, which increases the character's speed in battle if "equipped". In order to obtain this, you must use Xing Cai alone to reach 80 K.O's within 12 minutes of the start of the battle. Then finish the battle without failure. Xing Cai's third Ability is Refill, which fills up the character's Musou bar when actively in battle if "equipped". In order to obtain this, you must reach 100 K.O's without using any Musou attacks and while keeping your life bar at 50% or above. Then finish the battle without failure. Xing Cai's fourth Ability is Fortitude, which increases the character's defense in battle if "equipped". In order to obtain this, you must reach 180 K.O's within six minutes of the start of the battle. Then finish the battle without failure. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Obtaining Xing Cai's Personal Item --------------------------------------------------------------------- Xing Cai's personal item is called Zhang Fei's Necklace. It is appropriately titled as such for her father was an important figure in her life, as is portrayed in the game. In Shu Story 1, the Battle of Ueda Castle at any difficulty, you must do the following within five minutes of the start of battle: - Follow the path west and head south for the Escape Point. - Defeat Zhang He to open the gates to the Escape Point. - Reach 100 K.O's. A message will appear that a special item has appeared just north of the Escape Point. You may press START and check under "History" to find the exact location of the special item on the map. It is suggested you have characters other than Yoshihiro Shimazu in your party, as you CANNOT play as Zhao Yun in order to obtain this object. Thus, you need all the ally officers you can free to help protect Zhao Yun as you head towards the Escape Point. If you have it, equip the "Cavalier" Ability so that you may quickly rush back to your Allies' aid once you've obtained the special item. Or, you may head directly north after obtaining the special item and defeat Cao Ren to end the battle. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.
