All parts are listed in order as they appear in the technical reference guide. Although this has a large influence in the order in which they can be researched, research requirements are outside the scope of this faq. All ships must have a hull, bridge, and engine which is why I’ve combined those items into one faq. Weapons, systems, and aircraft can be added based on the ship’s use, and more detailed information can be found in their respective faqs. I have also included a table on armor even though it's not a mandatory ship requirement. But since I doubt anyone will write (or read) an faq on just armor, I thought I'd just list it here. In this entire guide, there is only one thing that cannot be researched, it can only be found as a pickup or as an award. It is the U.K. Destroyer 6. There's nothing special about it, so I don't know why. I was planning on putting in a complete list of Secret Blueprints, but I’ve never had any use for them. And based on the board discussions, no one else uses them either. If anyone has a compelling reason for complete descriptions of each Secret Blueprint, just let me know and I’ll add it here. Once again, I'm using tankboy’s nomenclature for roman letters and numbers so there's some consistency between faqs for this game. ======== Notation ======== Translated symbols: a = alpha b = beta g = gamma d = delta e = epsilon Other abbreviations: Wt = Weight in tons TR = Turn radius Co = Command Rd = Radar Sn = Sonar HW = Hull weight (the weight of the hull alone) MW = Maximum weight (total amount of weight the hull can support) En = Endurance Ai = Aircraft SS = System slots Pu = Purge Eff = Efficiency ===== Hulls ===== The drillship and genuine drillship are the only hulls which can cause ramming damage. They are also immune to collision damage. All other ships will take collision damage if you're on difficulty hard or higher. Note: In order to get frigates, you need to research all destroyer and cruiser templates (e.g. Destroyer 5,6, etc.), not the individual ships (e.g. Jpn Destroyer 5, Ger Destroyer 5, etc.). I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about research requirements, but this question keeps coming up. +------------------------+-------+------+------+----+----+----+ | hulls | MW | HW | En | Ai | TR | The only way to go faster is with thrusters which increase your speed for a few seconds, or with engimatechs. You can combine multiple enigmatechs to boost your sustained cruising speed to well over 150 knots. Boilers, nuclear reactors, fusion reactors, and gas turbines are called "Power" in the research screen and "Power Source" in the technical reference guide. ======= Boilers ======= Boilers require smokestacks. +----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+--------------+ | |Destroyer | Cruiser | Battleship/ | Carrier | | | | | Battlecarrier| | structures and weapons occupy 53% or less of the total length of the ship, also know as the armor rating. At 54% your armor becomes full. The total weight of the armor is calculated like this: If Full armor: armor rating X plating weight Example: armor rating of 75%; 10cm armor; base ship weight of 4680 tons 75% X 80 tons = 60 tons for armor 4680 + 60 = 4740 tons total weight of ship If Core armor: armor rating X 80% X plating weight Example: armor rating of 20%; 10cm armor; base ship weight of 4680 tons 20% X 80% X 80 tons = 12.8 tons for armor 4680 + 12.8 = 4692 tons total weight of ship +------+-----------+------+------+----------------+ | Size | Side deck | Deck | Keel | Plating Weight | |------+-----------+------+------+----------------| | 80 | 850 | 427 | 58 | 102000 | | 61 | 761 | 397 | 53 | 55000 | | 56 | 589 | 472 | 47 | 43000 | | 51 | 439 | 273 | 42 | 32000 | | 46 | 387 | 246 | 40 | 12800 | | 43 | 352 | 162 | 32 | 10000 | | 41 | 330 | 144 | 26 | 8800 | | 38 | 284 | 98 | 21 | 6400 | | 36 | 252 | 88 | 16 | 4000 | | 31 | 206 | 69 | 11 | 2800 | | 25 | 181 | 60 | 10 | 1800 | | 20 | 144 | 57 | 9 | 900 | | 15 | 123 | 47 | 8 | 450 | | 14 | 103 | 32 | 5 | 200 | | 12 | 96 | 16 | 3 | 160 | | 10 | 66 | 8 | 3 | 80 | | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | +------+-----------+------+------+----------------+ ============= S-ranked ship ============= In order to get the medal, you’ll need to build a ship ranked A in all categories and use it in one mission. Here are the minimum requirements for an S-ranked ship: Offensive: 1 magnetic pulse cannon (combining smaller guns doesn't seem to work) Anti-air: 10 machine guns + auto-countermeasures 2 (nothing has to be in the extra auto slots, you just need the system itself) Armor: 61 cm Response: 1 anti-sub missile (the real requirement is to have at least one weapon in each category of anti-ship, anti-air, and anti-sub; since you already have the other two, you only need a single anti-sub weapon) Command: command >= 235 without enigmatechs (the calculations get a little tricky when you start adding in +25% and such, so get as high of a command as possible before adding modifiers.) Mobility: ship speed >= 40.0 knots As long as you have the weapons, the hardest part is the command. You'll need both a Fwd and Aft Bridge and several systems to get it high enough. This can all be done for less than 25k tons, so a Jpn Battleship 5 or bigger should be your hull. You can use anything bigger if you want (e.g. twin-hull battleship, sepia pulse cannon, ciws, etc.) but really, the ship is pretty much useless. You end up wasting most of your system slots on increasing command, leaving your ship without a shield, auto-loader, or any number of more useful things. So use it on the easiest level as possible to get your medal and then scrap it. ============================= Advice on how to build a ship ============================= I don't really have a lot of advice for you, but I'll share the few thoughts that I have. - Using the hull with the highest maximum weight allowance is not always the best choice. As you research new and better weapons, your natural tendency is to install them right away. Besides the obvious weight and ammo considerations, deck space will become a big problem. You may have to change your hull to something that has a lower maximum weight in order to get a wider deck or a deck with a better configuration. - Build task specific ships. Like an S-ranked ship, trying to build a ship that does everything, ends up becoming a ship that is good at nothing. Build ships that are specific to your current needs. If there aren't any subs in a mission, ditch your depth charges. If you want to farm for parts, build a really fast frigate that can race around picking up crates. If you need a boss killer, build a huge battleship with tons of forward armaments. If the mission is during the day, ditch your night vision. Etc. - Similar to hulls, each structure has a different shape and size. Sometimes you'll have to pick a bridge with a lower command in order to fit on your deck. - If you keep running out of system slots, consider researching and using a better bridge so you can ditch your radar and sonar systems. - The position of the catapult and elevators doesn’t matter, they still have the same effect. You can stack all the catapults next to each other and then stick a giant gun in front of them (which you wouldn’t do on a real ship) and your airplanes will be just fine. ======= Credits ======= tankboy vyctym http://losmonos.netfirms.com/cgi-bin/tablecsv.pl (for help with the tables) ======= Contact ======= If you have any additions or corrections, please email me at: bmulroon@yahoo.com Please include "warship gunner 2" in the subject. =============================================================================== Copyright 2006 Bill Mulrooney This document may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
