This guide was designed to do the following things: - Present factual, in-game data of all statistic bonuses incurred by each character over the course of 99 levels of growth. - Present approximate damage and healing calculations so that the player has some idea of what their characters are doing. - To help the player find a sufficient balance of statistics for a 'perfect' save-file. Please take note that although I have listed the statistic maximums as "potential" maximums, they are probably impossible to achieve without a cheat device. I list them as "potential" as they are the sum of all existing statistic bonuses. They are, in essence, the closest thing to a cap that exists in the game. I have created an Excel spreadsheet that contains all of the information in this guide. There are several sheets within it that allow the player to track the changes they make to their character's statistics. These spreadsheets project those changes over the course of 99 levels and display what your character's maximum statistics will be at level 99. The spreadsheet also contains 'checklists' as it were, that allow you to keep track of which Ethers and Skills each character has learned, as well as an inventory checklist to make sure you get your hands on every last item in the game. For the most part, in any situation where you find one of your statistics to be lacking (not enough physical damage from strength, not evading enough attacks with Evasion, etc...), 2 to 3 increases to one stat will make a world of difference. +-Hit Points--------------------------------------------------[ 05.HP. ]-+ Hit Points, or HP, are used to determine the "life" of a character. As the character receives any kind of damage, regardless of how their other statistics affect it, HP is the value that decreases. There are two values in HP, a current and a maximum, represented as such: 0100/0100, for example. When a character increases in level, the SECOND value, or the Maximum increases, therefore, their HP becomes : 0100/0130 When a character is healed, the FIRST value, or their current HP, increases, but no higher than the Maximum : 0130/0130 When a character is damaged, their current HP DECREASES, and when it hits zero, the character is dead : 0000/0130. A dead character is represented by a current HP with RED zeros. As a side-note, Critical HP (the character is hunched over, or crouching in what seems to be an injured state) occurs when a character's current HP is 20% of their Maximum HP. There are no changes to a character's performance or capabilities when they are in Critical HP, their altered stance is simply a guideline to let you know that they need to be healed, just in case you haven't been paying attention to their HP. +-Ether Points------------------------------------------------[ 05.EP. ]-+ Ether Points, or EP, are exactly the same as MP (or Mana/Magic Points), in any other RPG. Again, there are two values in EP, a current and a maximum, represented as such : 16/16 When a character increases in level, the SECOND value, or the Maximum increases, therefore their EP becomes : 16/17 When a character is restored ( via an item ), the FIRST value, or their current MP increases, but no higher than the Maximum : 17/17. When a character selects an Ether ( Spell ) to be cast, their current EP decreases by the EP Cost of the Spell. Take, for example, the cost of Revert. It is an Ether that revives the target and costs 12 EP to cast. If the character were to cast Revert, their EP would become : 05/17. Because their current EP is no longer equal to, or greater than 12, they can no longer cast Revert until they restore their EP. Simply put, characters can NOT cast Ethers whose EP Cost is greater than their current or Maximum EP. +-Strength----------------------------------------------------[ 05.Str ]-+ Strength, or Str, determines how much damage a character deals with PHYSICAL based attacks, and Tech Skills. Most attacks which require a character to get close to their opponent and hit them with any kind of weapon are Physical. As a side-note, all of Jr.'s _ATTACKS_ are Physical because he uses a gun. Take note that with their weapons, each character will display a different Strength Value, but the game calculates BASE Strength before weapons when figuring how much it costs to upgrade. Observe of each character's maximum Strength values (and + accessories): Shion: Strength + 4 PATK+2 & Red Ring KOS-MOS: Strength + 32 F-RSHOT, PATK+2 & Red Ring Ziggy: Strength + 16 MSP89X w/MSS540 Ammo, PATK+2 & Red Ring MOMO: Strength + 24 Dragon Rod, PATK+2 & Red Ring chaos: Strength + 20 Holey Gloves, PATK+2 & Red Ring Jr.: Strength + 20 BLOOD9, PATK+2 & Red Ring +-Vitality----------------------------------------------------[ 05.Vit ]-+ Vitality, or Vit, determines how much damage a character receives from PHYSICAL based attacks. Most Physical attacks dealt by enemies follow the same guidelines as character attacks; the enemy will get close to a character and physically hit, stab, or slice them. Take note that with accessories, each character can achieve a different Vitality value. Again, the game calculates BASE Vitality before accessories when figuring how much it costs to upgrade. As a basis, Ethereal Attacks and Tech Skills can be determined as long-reaching attacks that are not dealt with a gun ( beam weapons, however are considered Ethereal Damage ). Again, most Ethereal Spells are distinguished by having a flashy animation and showing the enemy in a "casting" position, such as chanting, or being engulfed in light, for example. The higher the Dexterity, the greater the chance to hit, and the higher the enemy's Evasion, the lesser the chance to hit. The higher one's Evasion rating, the easier it is to avoid taking any damage at all. If you notice, there is a window in the bottom right of the battle screen, called the GTW ( Group Turn Window ). What this does is calculate, in a long line of turns, who will take their turn and in what order, and then condenses it into a strand of no greater than 6 turns at a time, to allow the player to manage their turns efficiently. The higher one's Agility rating, the faster they move, however, increasing Agility is limited : One can not increase their Agility manually. Instead, a character's set Agility rating is PERMANENT, and the only way to TEMPORARILY increase it is by equipping the White Ring ( of which there is only one available in the game ) or by extracting the AGL+1 Skill from the White Ring, or both. Essentially, this means that the highest a character can get their Agility is their Agility + 2, however only ONE character can do this at a time, due to the limited amount of White Rings in the game. Independent of the Agility statistic, there is a way to further increase a character's speed, which is through Ethers or Items. This method does not result in increasing a character's Agility Statistic, but increases their overall speed. ---------------------------------[ 07.SSt ]----------------------------------- "Syncing" statistics is what the Xenosaga community has established as 'causing two or more party members to have the exact same statistics'. As you've probably noticed, every time you get a handful of Tech Points, one of your characters will eventually have enough to increase their statistics. You'll also notice that each statistic has its own 'maximum'. The maximum is determined by the character who has the highest of that statistic. Because of the way statistics are designed, every character has a specific use in battle, and this is due to the way their statistics grow, over the course of several levels. You will notice that Ziggy always gets the most HP when he levels up. chaos has more EP than everybody else when he joins the party. KOS-MOS has the highest Ether Attack. Every character was designed to start with a certain 'high' statistic, and gain +1 to every stat until they reached a certain level. This means that every time your character levels up, they are bumping the maximum for that statistic slightly higher. So when you think about it, if you keep increasing every character's stats when another character levels up, each character can theoretically gain +5 to every statistic between level-ups. If that went over your head, don't worry, I'll explain it in more detail shortly. First, let's focus on staggering. +-Staggering--------------------------------------------------[ 07.Sta ]-+ The key component in syncing stats is making sure two characters do not level up at the same time. If they do, then they can't use Tech Points to benefit from one-another's statistic increase. So let's say you've got Shion, KOS-MOS and Ziggy in the party, and they all have the same amount of Experience to reach the next level. Shion: Lvl 11. 5000 Exp to next level KOS-MOS: Lvl 11. 5000 Exp to next level Ziggy: Lvl 11. 5000 Exp to next level This is no good. If we keep fighting, they'll all reach the next level at the same time. We don't want that to happen. So by killing Shion for one fight, we're allowing her to fall behind. KOS-MOS and Ziggy finish the fight and the enemy drops 3000 Experience. KOS-MOS and Ziggy gain 1500 Experience each. Shion: Lvl 11. 5000 Exp to next level KOS-MOS: Lvl 11. 3500 Exp to next level Ziggy: Lvl 11. 3500 Exp to next level Now, let's kill Shion & KOS-MOS in the next fight...Ziggy finishes the battle alone, and gets 3000 Experience Let's see what happened. Shion: Lvl 11. 5000 Exp to next level KOS-MOS: Lvl 11. 3500 Exp to next level Ziggy: Lvl 11. 500 Exp to next level Your characters are successfully staggered. It might take a few fights to sync your characters. Very rarely do the regular enemies in an area drop enough experience to level you up in 4 fights. But I think this was an effective example. So, with the previous set-up, we now have 3 characters making sure they are levelling up at different times. Use this principle regardless of how many people you're using to sync statistics. Although, most people wouldn't suggest using all 6 party members. That will take a long time and is quite hard to do. You probably won't ever need stats that high anyway. +-Experience Formula------------------------------------------[ 07.ExF ]-+ The Experience Formula is as simple as simple can be : ( ( Current Level + 1 ) ^ 2 ) * 10 This determines how much Experience a character will need to get from one level, to the next. There is a much less simplistic formula, devised by Ragnarokesper of the Gamefaqs.com message boards, used to determine the TOTAL Exp needed for each character to level-up. It should be noted, however, that while I included it in the Experience Chart, it only applies to Shion, and KOS-MOS. Allow me to put all of your questions to rest, regarding the distribution of Experience Points. Combatant Experience : [ ( Total Experience / Living Combatants ) * Experience Mod / 100 ] Experience Mod = 100 If Master's Pendant equipped, Mod + 25 If Experience P + 25 equipped, Mod + 25 Reserve Experience : [ ( Total Experience / Living Combatants ) * 3 / 4 ] Here's a direct example of Experience distribution, step by step: Step I: Calculate the total Exp dropped by all defeated enemies in battle. Let us imagine we killed 2 Goblins and a Manticore on the Woglinde. Example: = 40 + 40 + 30 = 110 Step II: Count the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle ( HP > 0 ). This value will obviously be between 1 and 3. Step III: Divide Total Exp by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ 110 / 3 ] = [ 36.6666 ] = 36 Step IV: Distribute the value determined in Step 3 to all remaining "combatant" characters, after factoring in individual Experience Modifiers. = [ 36 * Experience Mod / 100 ] Step V: Divide Total Exp by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. Multiply this value by the fraction 3/4 ( to determine 75% of the Experience value ). The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ ( 110 / 3 ) * 3/4 ] = [ ( 36.6666 * 3/4 ] = [ 27.49995 ] = 27 ****IMPORTANT**** You MUST multiply the decimal value obtained by dividing Total Exp by remaining combatants, NOT the floored value. While it might not seem important if the amount of experience divided by the number of surviving characters is an INTEGER ( read: no decimal places ), you will notice errors when the value is not an integer, if you do not use the floor function as stated. ****IMPORTANT**** Step VI: Distribute the value determined in Step 5 to all "reserve" characters, after factoring in individual Experience Modifiers. = [ 27 * Experience Mod / 100 ] ****IMPORTANT**** A character that has not yet joined the party will not be considered a reserve, meaning that regardless of Exp gained by Shion and KOS-MOS at the beginning of the game, Ziggy, MOMO, chaos and Jr. will _ALWAYS_ join at the same level, and amount of Experience. Period. Secondly, once a character has joined the party, but is not present in the menu ( for instance, sections when Shion is alone or when KOS-MOS is still dormant while the remaining 5 characters battle ), they are _ALWAYS_ considered a reserve, meaning that they will level-up with 3/4 ( or 75% ) of all distributed Exp to living combatants until they re-join the party. ****IMPORTANT**** +-Syncing & Bumping-------------------------------------------[ 07.S&B ]-+ Syncing statistics is a relatively complicated theory, but it's much simpler than it sounds. Let's take, for example, Shion and KOS-MOS' level 1 Strength. Shion: 8 Str KOS-MOS: 12 Str The current maximum strength Shion can obtain is 12, because that is what the strongest character has (KOS-MOS). So let's pretend Shion has enough Tech Points to raise her Strength 4 times. This is called Syncing. Shion will 'sync' her statistics to match KOS-MOS' Shion: 12 Str KOS-MOS: 12 Str So now, let's pretend Shion levels up, and gains +1 to Strength. This is called Bumping. Shion has matched KOS-MOS' Strength value by syncing, and increased the maximum up over KOS-MOS' Strength value. Shion 'Bumped' the maximum up by one point. Shion: 13 Str KOS-MOS: 12 Str Now Shion has the highest Strength value. So let's get KOS-MOS synced again. Shion: 13 Str KOS-MOS: 13 Str Now, let's pretend KOS-MOS levels up to level 2. She bumps the maximum up by 2 points. Shion: 13 Str KOS-MOS: 15 Str (at level 2, KOS-MOS gains + 2 to Strength) Ok, so at this point, we're going to assume Shion does NOT have enough Tech Points to increase her Strength, but she gains another level. Shion: 14 Str KOS-MOS: 15 Str As we can see, KOS-MOS still has the highest strength value, and because we failed to get Shion 2 more points of strength before we leveled, we were unable to increase the maximum strength. This is what is called a 'wasted' level-up. In a Statistic Maxing file, wasted levels make us sad. Because bosses drop exorbitant amounts of experience, and extremely low amounts of Tech Points by comparison (unless you land on a x10 Point Modifier Bonus), it is a good idea to sync stats as best you can for a few levels between each boss. Some bosses give enough Experience points to level you up TWICE. That results in a lot of wasted levels. While you're waiting to head to a boss, try hopping in the EVS, and sopping up all the Tech Points you can from old enemies. It will make your characters stronger and will help to spread out the experience gain from boss fights. +-Tech Point Formula------------------------------------------[ 07.TPF ]-+ There are 3 values associated with the Tech Point requirement for increasing a statistic; Stat : This is the value of the current statistic. For instance, if Strength is 40, the stat is 40. If Strength is 12, the stat is 12. Slope : This is what determines the direct relationship between the statistic, and the amount of T.Pts needed. Intercept : This is a passive value that creates a minimum amount of points required to increase a statistic. The formula is as follows ( a big thanks to ragnarokesper of the GameFAQs message boards for providing me with this formula ) : [ Stat * Slope / 99 ] + Intercept Please understand that [ and ] denote the FLOOR function: All decimal places are to be rounded DOWN to the nearest integer. For example: 5.3 = 5, 5.9999999 = 5, 5.1232143564368343 = 5 Each statistic nets its own individual slope and intercept ( and obviously stat as well, unless you've been syncing all of your stats to look the same ). Tech Points Received : [ ( Total Tech Points / Living Combatants ) * Tech Point Mod / 100 ] Mod = 100 If Swimsuit equipped, Mod + 25 If Tech P + 25 equipped, Mod + 25 Here's a direct example of Tech Point distribution, step by step: Step I: Calculate the total Tech Points dropped by all defeated enemies in battle. Let us imagine we killed 2 Goblins and a Manticore on the Woglinde. But we must also calculate each monster's Tech Point distribution in accordance with the Point modifier that was active when they died. If they died on a turn that was NOT a point modifier, then the Tech Point distribution for that enemy is unaffected. If they died on a turn that was a point modifier x 2, 4, or 10, then the Tech Point distribution for any enemies that died on that slot are multiplied by 2, 4, or 10, respectively. In our example, we are going to pretend we killed a Goblin on a x2, a Manticore on a x 10, and the second Goblin on a x 4. Goblin = 6 Manticore = 3 Example: = ( 6 * 2 ) + ( 3 * 10 ) + ( 6 * 4 ) = 12 + 30 + 24 = 56 Step II: Count the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle ( HP > 0 ). This value will obviously be between 1 and 3. Step IV: Divide Total Tech Points by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ 56 / 3 ] = [ 18.6667 ] = 18 Step V: Distribute the value determined in Step 3 to all remaining "combatant" characters, after factoring in individual Tech Point Modifiers. = [ 18 * Tech Point Mod / 100 ] ****IMPORTANT**** Reserve characters will NEVER, EVER gain Tech Points, Ether Points, or Skill Points. This is a fact. If you open up their menu and they have Tech, Ether, or Skill Points in their possession, the ONLY reason is because they were either switched out of the party ( by you, or automatically ) after a previous random or boss battle, or because you used an Upgrade item on them. ****IMPORTANT**** +-Upgrading Hit Points----------------------------------------[ 07.UHP ]-+ First of all, this is how I came about the approximation that HP does, in fact, have a maximum: One must understand, that with HP always differing from one character to the next, and each character's bonus dropping by 1 point every 3 to 5 levels, HP is a LOT harder to pin-point for a final maximum, whereas, all of the other stats increase by 2, 1, or 0 throughout, and can be more easily monitored. What I've done is rounded every bonus every character gets, to the nearest multiple of 10 ( 33 = 30, 29 = 20, 18 = 10, < 10 = 0 ). This has given me the value of 5,410 as a potential maximum for statistic bonuses for characters before their HP bonuses degrade below 10 points. By tallying up groups of the < 10 HP bonuses on Ziggy's Statistic bonus charts, and rounding each group to the nearest multiple of 10, I've deduced that there is approximately 90 more points of HP to be gained, meaning that the potential maximum for statistic bonuses for HP is approximately 5,500. By adding this to Ziggy's base HP, we get 5,905, or 5,900 as a possible upgrade-able maximum. With that said, it should be noted that a character can only increase their HP by 10 points at a time. The maximum for HP is determined by taking the character with the highest maximum HP and rounding it down to the nearest multiple of 10. (1076 = 1070 maximum) Therefore, if Ziggy has 5,905 HP as described above, the highest possible maximum anybody can get ( aside from him, of course ), would be 5,900. I haven't gone through and done a level-by-level comparison to optimize HP bonuses, but this value is a fair assessment as it is. Expect to spend well over 360,000 Tech Points to increase HP this high. ASSESSMENT : Max HP : 5,900 T.Pts Required : ~360,000 +-Upgrading Ether Points--------------------------------------[ 07.UEP ]-+ EP is relatively easy to maximize, due to it, much like Dexterity and Evasion, being capped at 99 points. There is one exception, however. Characters can only upgrade EP 2 points at a time, to a multiple of 2. If one character has 30 EP, and another has 31 EP, that does not mean that the first character has a potential maximum of 31...it means that their maximum is 30. The game rounds down in this instance. Essentially, this tells us that we can only upgrade EP every SECOND time it increases, at the maximum. Let me run through the process of upgrading EP with you, assuming we have unlimited Tech Points to work with : Shion starts the game at level 1 with 14 EP. KOS-MOS starts the game at level 1 with 20 EP. Our potential maximum is currently 20. So let us say we expend the 216 points Shion needs to increase EP from 14 to 20. Shion has 20 EP, and is level 1. KOS-MOS has 20 EP, and is level 1. Now, let us assume Shion has levelled up. Shion has 21 EP, and is level 2. KOS-MOS has 20 EP. Nobody can increase HP, because 21 is rounded down to the nearest multiple of 2, which is 20. The game assumes the maximum EP is 20, therefore, KOS-MOS has the maximum EP. Now, let us assume KOS-MOS has levelled up. Shion has 21 EP, and is level 2. KOS-MOS has 21 EP, and is level 2. Normally, with any other stat, this would be a wasted level, however, due to the level cap, it is negligible, but here is where the true trick lies. Let us assume, yet again, that Shion has levelled up. Shion has 22 EP, and is level 3. KOS-MOS has 21 EP, and is level 2. If we expend 64 Tech Points to increase KOS-MOS' EP from 21 to 22, Shion has 22 EP, and is level 3. KOS-MOS has 22 EP, and is level 2. Now, because of this, Shion took 2 levels to increase her EP by 2 points, and KOS-MOS took 1 level to increase her EP by 2 points... Theoretically, because KOS-MOS is the next to level up, SHE will be the one to raise the maximum for the next 2 levels, while Shion levels up once, and waits to increase her EP by 1 point when she reaches level 4. This means, we have spent 6 levels obtaining 2 extra points of EP. While, at most, Ziggy requires 23 points of EP in order for him to reach 99 naturally, this would be spread across 69 levels ( 3 levels per extra point of EP ). Since Ziggy requires 23 points of EP, as a fair comparison, let us say that he will require approximately 1,300 Tech Points. Do yourself a favour and try not to increase EP more than it has to be. Honestly, getting away with maxed EP for less than 1,500 Tech Points is really fair, and an extremely good deal. As mentioned earlier, EP can not be increased to odd numbers, therefore, if a character does NOT have 98 EP before their final point to EP is factored in, they will be permanently stuck at 98 EP. Everybody's last point of EP occurs at level 96. Making sure you have 98 EP before then will guarantee you 99 EP. Simple as that. ASSESSMENT : Max EP : 99 T.Pts Required : ~1,300 +-Upgrading Core Stats----------------------------------------[ 07.UCS ]-+ Since the core stats can be increased to match anybody else's and there's really no trick to it, I don't really have any specific instructions, though I'll still list the potential maximums for each stat : STRENGTH : Ziggy has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Strength, which is 25. There are also 402 points of Strength to be gained through level-ups; Therefore, the highest possible Strength value in the game is 427. VITALITY : Ziggy has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Vitality, which is 22. There are also 413 points of Vitality to be gained through level-ups: Therefore, the highest possible Vitality value in the game is 425. ETHER ATTACK : Jr. has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Ether Attack, which is 27. There are also 417 points of Ether Attack to be gained through level- ups; Therefore, the highest possible Ether Attack value in the game is 444. ETHER DEFENSE : chaos has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Ether Defense; which is 26. There are also 420 points of Ether Defense to be gained through level- ups; Therefore, the highest possible Ether Defense in the game is 446. ASSESSMENT : Max Strength : 427 T.Pts Required : ~121,000 Max Vitality : 425 T.Pts Required : ~120,000 Max Ether Attack : 444 T.Pts Required : ~125,000 Max Ether Defense : 446 T.Pts Required : ~124,000 +-Upgrading Dexterity & Evasion-------------------------------[ 07.D&E ]-+ Dexterity and Evasion are, without a doubt, the easiest statistics to max out in the game. Like EP, the maximum one can obtain in either of these statistics is 99. Unlike EP, however, is that each statistic can be increased 1 point at a time, making it much easier to max them out with the minimal amount of monitoring and effort possible. At the very worst, MOMO will require 7 points to Dexterity, and 5 points to Evasion to hold the maximum for either stat. At which point, it is easy to play catch-up with her. ASSESSMENT : Max Dexterity : 99 T.Pts Required : ~600 Max Evasion : 99 T.Pts Required : ~300 ****FINAL NOTE**** In total, you're looking at spending approximately 852,200 Tech Points to obtain these potential maximum stats. Please note, that these are completely hypothetical. It is nearly impossible to achieve statistics that high, even if you're using a cheating device. As noted in the introduction, these values are listed because they are the sum of all total stat increases that exist within the game. They are the closest thing resembling a hard cap, although no hard cap actually exists. ===========================[ Syncing Strategies ]============================= ---------------------------------[ 08.SyS ]----------------------------------- What follows is a series of breakdowns on what makes each area suitable -or not-so suitable- for stat syncing. As a note, the 'Ratio' relates to how many Tech Points you get from the boss per point of Experience. If a boss drops 15 Tech Points and 150 Experience Points, that boss has a 0.1000: 1 Tech Point Ratio. (150 Exp * 0.1000 = 15 Tech Points). Obviously, the lower the decimal, the worse the Ratio. Since levels increase quadratically (to the power of 2), and Tech Point costs do not, areas with a crappy Tech Point ratio end up not being all that crappy later in the game. This is especially true if you're able to increase all of your stats and still spend 20 minutes trying to level up before you can Bump stats again. +-KOS-MOS Simulator-------------------------------------------[ 08.EKS ]-+ Now, technically, the Drones in the tutorial battles give out the best Tech point ratios in the entire game. It is impossible to stagger your characters during the tutorial, because the enemies do not strike back. Instead of spending your time grinding before the first save-point, focus on running right to the first boss, and try to get a x4 or x10 Modifier. BEFORE DRONE SPX IS KILLED : Drone M : 00,007 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 0.2857:1 Ratio Drone F : 00,008 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 0.2500:1 Ratio Attack Drone : 00,013 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 0.3077:1 Ratio [BOSS] Drone SPX : 00,040 Exp, 018 T.Pts = 0.4500:1 Ratio If you're going to kill enemies before killing the Drone SPX, kill the automated mechs. And make sure to use Shion's Square + Triangle attack to kill them faster. AFTER DRONE SPX IS KILLED : Drone G1 : 00,010 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 0.2000:1 Ratio Drone G2 : 00,008 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 0.2500:1 Ratio Drone G3 : 00,020 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 0.2000:1 Ratio [BOSS] Drone GX : 00,100 Exp, 024 T.Pts = 0.2400:1 Ratio While it's not as efficient to kill Drone G2s repeatedly as it is to kill attack drones, you can't save before fighting the Drone SPX, and there's obviously a limit to how long you can leave your PS2 running. For the record, the Drone G2 enemies are the flying Gnosis. I have found that it is fastest to repeatedly exit to the south of the red cannister inside the dilapidated ruins, and repeatedly fight the set of 2 Drone G2s that appear. Free boosts make it a lot easier to land on a Point Bonus Modifier, and there is a save point in the next room. At any given point in the game, this IS the best place to earn Tech Points, but at 2 points per kill (4 on a x2 modifier), it is painfully slow. Use this place as a syncing starting point, and try to move on to a new area by around level 10. Also, if you find you're levelling too fast to sync properly in a new area, come back here for a handful of fights. It will help to get your characters back on track. Make sure you get an x4 or x10 modifier on the two bosses in here. They give a ton of Tech Points compared to the Experience they drop, so it would be nice to get ahead of the curve as fast as possible. You should focus mostly on Shion's EP, Strength, Vitality, and Ether Attack. Don't worry about HP at all, and don't worry about Dexterity or Evasion. +-Woglinde----------------------------------------------------[ 08.Wog ]-+ The Woglinde is never really that stat-efficient, for a few reasons: 1) The amount of Tech Points earned is almost equal to that in the KOS-MOS Simulator; 2) The amount of Experience earned is quadruple and quintuple the amount earned in the KOS-MOS simulator (if not more). 3) Enemies aren't grouped up as efficiently as possible as they are in the KOS-MOS simulator. If you encounter a Goblin, chances are he'll have other Gnosis in the fight with him as well. If you have the Goodbye Ether, you can escape from the fight after all the Goblins are dead (if there are non-Goblin enemies in the fight), and immediately run back into the on-screen Gnosis to start the next fight. This becomes fairly efficient. Or, if you really want the Tech Points to help you through the next boss fights, save your game next to MOMO's cell, and try to beat the Mercurio on an X10. [BOSS] Zolfo A : 00,200 Exp, 022 T.Pts = 0.1100:1 Ratio ~Mercurio B : 00,150 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 0.0534:1 Ratio [BOSS] Margulis : 02,400 Exp, 058 T.Pts = 0.0242:1 Ratio In a stat-syncing file, skip fighting Margulis. The only way not to level on him is to be at level 15, and syncing here is a waste. If you're really determined, don't beat him with any less than a x10 Modifier. You will reach about level 9 with Ziggy and MOMO. You'll probably also need a few tech points to increase Ziggy's Ether Defense. If you want to sync his Ether Defense entirely to match KOS-MOS', you'll need 400 Tech Points. If you kill only U-Tic Soldiers A and X, and always get a x2 bonus, you will end up with 3000 Exp, putting Ziggy at level 11. With the Margulis fight, you'll end up at level 12, guaranteed. If you get lucky and land on a x4 often enough while syncing, you may be able to end up at level 11, but don't count on it. Like I said, it's not worth it. Nothing Margulis has is rare enough to warrant beating him, especially not worth losing out on 5 levels of syncing. Plus, it would be nice not to gain too many levels. We're going to need Ziggy to sync his HP with KOS-MOS later, so it's best not to get him too far ahead. +-Elsa: U-Tic Invasion----------------------------------------[ 08.EUT ]-+ DOMO A : 00,080 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 0.1000:1 Ratio DOMO B : 00,090 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 0.0889:1 Ratio This is a decent place to boost Tech Points, but only after you've exhausted your resources in both the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator, AND the Woglinde, via the E.V.S. When you can afford to gain 80 ~ 90 Exp per kill and still end up syncing and bumping your stats between level-ups, stop EVS diving and start syncing here. It's the best place you'll get for a while to get enough Tech Points AND experience points to level-up and sync at a relatively decent pace. Just make sure to use this place until it's painful to look at. Once you kill the DOMO Carrier, the DOMO machines stop spawning forever. In order not to level up on the DOMO carrier, you have to be level 12 or higher. Since we're going to get here at around level 9, we'll be well beyond that in a few hours. At level 9, if every fight has 4 DOMO units in it, your characters will be gaining 85 Exp, and 21 T.Pts (at least). It will take 12 fights to level-up, and we'll get a minimum of 231 T.Pts. That should get you about 4 Stat-Ups between levels, not including HP bonuses, which will cost significantly more. [BOSS] DOMO C. : 04,500 Exp, 080 T.Pts = 0.0178:1 Ratio Now that we're past the first few levels of the game, the Tech Point ratios are mostly going to drop. Since we're already at less than .10 Tech Points per 1 Experience, I'm not going to expect you to aim for x10 Bonuses all the time. That's just ridiculous. Aim for x4 on the bosses from now on. It will be a lot less frustrating. You can aim for x10 if you want, but I certainly wouldn't suggest it. When you're stat syncing in this place, you're going to want people fulfilling different roles with their stats. This is what I would suggest: HP: KOS-MOS and Ziggy EP: All. Since EP-bonuses occur every 2 levels, no matter how many characters you're using, you're going to need everybody on EP-bumping duty. Str: Ziggy and Shion Vit: Ziggy and Shion EATK: MOMO and chaos EDEF: MOMO and chaos I kept KOS-MOS focused on catching up to Ziggy, rather than spending her Tech Points on a third stat. This is because Ziggy has a higher HP bonus than her, and after a few levels, he'll gain another whole 10 HP that KOS-MOS will have to pick up. This is going to be fairly hard to keep track of, but by isolating each character into 3 Sync-and-Bump roles, we can stagger everyone, and cycle people through the party a little bit faster. The stat gains will only be 2 per level, instead of a potential 5 per level, but who knows how many of those '5' per level you might miss due to just not getting enough T.Pts fast enough between levels. This is more of a sure-fire way to do it, but your maximum stats _WILL_ be affected. Don't be discouraged if your stats aren't increasing very high. We're just creating a solid base. Once you have a high enough projected HP at level 99, you can stop syncing KOS-MOS and Ziggy's HP. Leave Dexterity and Evasion alone until later. Those two statistics have a relatively low Tech Point cost, and in order to max the stats out, you only need to sync KOS-MOS and MOMO to bump Dexterity by 7 points, and Evasion by 5. This is extremely easy and can be done later on. It's best to get the core stats out of the way while they're still inexpensive. +-U-Tic Battleship--------------------------------------------[ 08.UTB ]-+ Again, just fly through this area. You're only stuck here once with Jr., but make sure you get that U-Tic Card, and use that to open the door for access to Decoder 16, or else it's gone forever, thanks to an infamous glitch later in the game. Also, I know what you're thinking, and yes, even though Jr. is the only permanent party member, the game has taken note of every character's stats, and you can sync with Shion, KOS-MOS, Ziggy, MOMO, and chaos. As a matter of fact, from this point on, no matter who is in the group, or temporarily unavailable for use, all 6 characters' stats are considered when finding the maximum. [BOSS] Ambix : 01,800 Exp, 042 T.Pts = 0.0234:1 Ratio My suggestion is to focus on getting through here as fast as you can. You can get the same amount of T.Pts from the Goblins on the Woglinde as the U-Tic Soldier B's, with only 3/5ths the amount of experience. It's up to you if you want to try getting Jr. caught up, but remember that Shion and co. will be gaining Exp behind Jr., which will throw off the sync. But this way, Jr. can become a part of it. Levels 10 ~ 20: - Ziggy and KOS-MOS should sync HP. - All 5 characters should work on EP. - Shion and Ziggy should work on Str. - Shion and Ziggy should work on Vit. - chaos and MOMO should work on EATK. - chaos and MOMO should work on EDEF. Levels 20 ~ 50: - Leave HP alone once you get it where you need it. - All 6 characters should work on EP, same as before. - All 6 characters can work on core stats (or as many as you're comfortable with). Level 50 ~ 70: - All 6 characters should keep working on EP. - All 6 characters can work on core stats (or as many as you're comfortable with). Levels 68, 72, 76, 80, 84, 88, 92, 96 - Sync EVERYTHING you can between these levels, including Dex and Eva. In fact, make Dex and Eva the priority. - At level 68, MOMO will have 83 Dex, and 85 Eva. Before levelling to 72, make Sure MOMO has 90 Dex, and 91 Eva. That way, she should reach 99. This should take exactly 1 level with 6 people syncing stats. ===========================[ Damage Calculations ]============================ ---------------------------------[ 09.DCl ]----------------------------------- As of now, I have not completely cracked the mechanics behind Physical and Ethereal damage. Call it a lack of time, know-how, or interest, but I do have some information I would like to share. It's been sitting in an Excel document for a while, so it does no good to the fanbase just sitting on my hard drive. +-Attack Properties-------------------------------------------[ 09.ATP ]-+ There are several different properties to every attack, Tech, and Ether. Physical : Attack is based off the character's Strength statistic. Ether : Attack is based off the character's Ether statistic. One : Attack will hit only one target. All : Attack will hit all targets. (There is a condition described below) Near : Attack requires enemy to be within melee range. ("Near" attacks cannot be used on flying enemies) Far : Attack will reach any enemy. Line : Attack will hit an enemy on the front-line, but cannot reach somebody in the back. Attacks with the All property and the Line property will only hit people on the front line. Once the front line is devoid of enemies, Line-based attacks can then hit people in the back row. Air : Attack will hit an enemy anywhere on the field, regardless of whether or not he is on the back row and enemies are in front of him. Attacks with the All property and Air property will hit every enemy on the field, no exceptions. Hit : Elemental Property: Basic, blunt melee damage. Pierce : Elemental Property: Attack is piercing (bullets, drills). Slash : Elemental Property: Attack is slashing (swords, blades). Hit, Pierce, and Slash damage are attack properties. They cannot be resisted by any enemy, as they are passive and not technically 'elements'. Fire : Elemental Property: Attack is fire-based. Lightning : Elemental Property: Attack is Lightning-based. Beam : Elemental Property: Attack is Energy-based (lasers, cannons). Spirit : Elemental Property: Attack is Chi-based (spiritual energy). Fire, Lightning, Beam, and Spirit, on the other hand, ARE elements. Throughout the game, there will be various enemies resistant to each of these. It is believed that when an enemy reads "weak to X Element/Property", that any attacks of that nature will deal 20% more damage to them. I also believe that the Critical Strike chance improves greatly against enemies that are weak to a character's elemental property. In some of these cases, I have seen characters perform critical hits, dozens upon dozens of times in a row without any indication of stopping. Enemies who are resistant to certain Elements/Properties, will have a unique resistance value. Some are 25%, some are 50%, some are 75%. Some have a resistance that can be broken down in increments throughout the fight. Analysis should tell you how much resistance an enemy has. +-Healing Ethers----------------------------------------------[ 09.Eth ]-+ Healing Ethers have a static calculation, and do not use the Random Number Generator in their formula. I suppose this is to ensure they are always reliable. Medica: Spell Mod = 5, Target = One Cost: 2 EP Medica All: Spell Mod = 8, Target = All Cost: 8 EP Medica Rest: Spell Mod = 12, Target = One Cost: 8 EP Healing Dew Spell Mod = 4, Target = All Cost: 6 EP Life Shot Spell Mod = 8, Target = One Cost: 2 EP Recharge Spell Mod = 10, Target = Self Cost: 4 EP Refine Max HP x 0.20 to one Cost: 6 EP Revert Max HP x 0.50 to one Cost: 12 EP The heal formula is as follows: EATK x Spell Mod x Caster Veil x Target Veil x Life Stone Obviously, if there is no Veil effect on the caster or target, and no life stone on the target as well, all of those modifiers will have a value of 1. If the caster and the target have opposing veils, they are completely negated, and the Spell will do normal damage, rather than being calculated against one another (which would not result in 100% damage/healing). If one or more of the Healing effects is present, these are the new modifiers: Life Stone = 2 Veil Effect = 0.75 Anti-Veil Effect= 1.25 It should be known that Revive Ethers are not affected by Veil effects or the Life Stone. +-Items-------------------------------------------------------[ 09.Itm ]-+ The following Healing Items are affected by Life Stone/Recovery Double.
