Intro: ======================== Figured I might as well make a short FAQ of all the Locohouse parts, like it's really needed. What this FAQ won't do is tell you where to get the parts, unless they have very specific criteria. Most parts can be found in levels by getting Muimui or Locohouse Parts-bugs, the Muimui Crane and the Chupa Chupa minigames, and at the Locohouse itself. I can't confirm this 100%, but I am pretty sure that some of the rarer parts (not necessarily denoted by stars) can only be gotten by collection of specific Muimui. See section 4. "Crazy Speculation" for more info. ======================== 3. Parts ======================== [XX] Key: ### *** [Description] ### The catalog number of the part *** How many stars the part is (1-3) [Description] A short description of the part. Commonly used descriptions: Lengths/Size: Short, Medium, Long, Small, Big, Giant Land Types: Land (Standard orange part), Ice (Blue part) Direction/Movement: Horizontal, Vertical Rotation: Rotates (Right/Left), Free Rotates (Rotates only if contacted by a Loco) ## Rotation R/L (rotates ## degrees Right, then rotates back Left) I've tried to make this as simple as possible and as such I don't expect everyone to know exactly what I am talking about or not. And, I don't really care, because it is incredibly easy to get all these parts, and this FAQ is basically a waste of space. ======================== [XA] Standard Land parts (001-012) 001 * Small Land 002 * Medium Land 003 * Long Land 004 * Rounded-triangle Land 005 * Small Round Land 006 * Big Round Land 007 ** Funnel-shaped Land 008 * Shallow-U shaped Land (like a catch basin) 009 * Left Downwards Stair-shaped land (4 steps) 010 * Big Cube Land 011 * Small U shaped Land 012 ** Giant Shallow-U shaped Land [XB] Standard Ice parts (013-024) 013 * Small Ice 014 * Medium Ice 015 * Long Ice 016 * Rounded-triangle Ice 017 * Small Round Ice 018 * Big Round Ice 019 ** Funnel-shaped Ice 020 * Shallow-U shaped Ice (like a catch basin) 021 * Left Downwards Stair-shaped Ice (4 steps) 022 * Big Cube Ice 023 * Small U shaped Ice 024 ** Giant Shallow-U shaped Ice [XC] Odd Ice parts (025-037) 025 ** Wide Small U shaped Ice 026 ** Right Downwards Big Hook/Jump 027 ** Left Downwards Giant Hook/Jump 028 *** Giant U shaped Ice 029 *** 2 part wavy channel shaped ice 030 *** Tiny ice dot group 031 ** 2 part Odd shaped Ice group (horizontal) 032 ** 2 part Right-curving ice quarter-arc 033 ** Right Downwards single-bump jump 034 ** 2 part Odd shaped Ice group (vertical) 035 ** 3 part odd shaped Ice group (symmetric) 036 ** 3 part small wavy ice (vertical) [XD] Moving parts (037-057) 037 ** Large Purple 80¡ Rotating Platform 038 ** Small Beige Clockwise Rotating platform 039 * Medium Orange 90¡ Rotating cross 040 * Large Brown Clockwise Rotating Cross 041 * Medium Orange Counter-Clockwise Rotating 3-spoke 042 * Small Yellow Clockwise rotating 6-spoke 043 * Small Clockwise rotating wheel 044 * Small Counter-Clockwise rotating wheel 045 * Big Clockwise rotating wheel 046 * Big Clockwise-Clockwise rotating wheel 047 * Giant Slowly Clockwise rotating rounded start (*Can only be gotten level 2-6?) 048 *** Medium Purple Wavy Platform 049 *** Large 4-platform clockwise rotating ferris-wheel 050 * small clockwise rotating cube 051 ** medium vertical moving cube 052 *** large 3 platform alternating vertical rectangles 053 *** large 2 part trapdoor (land on it and it opens, dropping loco) 054 *** 2 part clockwise rotating ice circle-thing (dot inside of letter C) 055 ** medium horizontal moving land 056 *** large tipping jar (jar tips clockwise 180¡ after locoroco has entered and 15 seconds has passed) 057 *** large horizontal moving leaf treadmill [XE] Alphabet (058-084) Note: Can't be gotten from Muimui Crane 058 * A 059 * B 060 * C 061 * D 062 * E 063 * F 064 * G 065 * H 066 * I 067 * J 068 * K 069 * L 070 * M 071 * N 072 * O 073 * P 074 * Q 075 * R 076 * S 077 * T 078 * U 079 * V 080 * W 081 * X 082 * Y 083 * Z 084 * ! Crazy Speculation ======================== I am of the opinion that each Muimui or Parts Bug in a level will only give you one of two different parts (per attempt at the level). For example, the first Muimui on level 2-6 with either give you part 047 or 046. So, if after playing every level, getting all Muimui and playing the minigames many times you still can't find one or two parts, you might have to play through each level AGAIN getting all the Muimui looking for that one last part. Because I didn't write down what part I got after collecting the Muimui or parts bug, I don't know where you can get each individual part. Sorry, but not really. Oh, if anyone has been keeping track, just email me where you found what and I can include it here. ======================== 5. FAQ ======================== Q: "I can't find part XXX" or "I didn't get part XXX where you said I would" A: So? Find it yourself. I've given you ideas where I think they are, and if you still can't find it, then play the game getting all Muimui again. You have done that already, right? Q: "Your FAQ sucks." A: Duh. I've already noted that it's practically useless. Q: "How do I get the 20th fruit or Muimui # on level #-#?" A: By playing the game well, jumping in all the corners, breaking your Locoroco up often looking for hidden passages, and not giving up. I can't tell you where a certain fruit is or where a certain Muimui is because I don't care. Q: "Your translations are off." A: Not if they were written in Katakana, I only took liberty with the Nyokki, or if I wasn't given a name in the first place. I'm pretty sure the names will appear different in the EU or US release, but I'm using the Japanese one. Q: "I need more money for the minigames!" A: Ok. Q: "Could you tell me how I can get more money for the minigames?" A: Yes. If you have gotten all 20 fruit on a level you can play it again, quickly, and if you beat the target time you get 1000 of those little bugs that count as money (Note: you can only do this once per level). Or, find a certain level that is easy to beat that has a lot of little bugs to collect, and play it a lot. Lastly, when playing the Muimui Crane game, if you collect more than 19 of a color of a Locoroco, each time you collect a single Loco of that color you get 300 monies. So, if you collect a big one, you can make around 900 monies. Sometimes, all the parts in a Muimui Crane session will be Locorocos, so you can collect away and make bank. I guess you can also make a paltry sum at the Chupachupa minigame, but the maximum you can collect is 78, and you only get what you've earned if you collect the part at the end as well. Because it costs 100 to play, this is a very bad way to make money, a good way to lose it. Q: "I can't jump using the vines/trampolines/goo things very well!" A: Practice more. Q: "Is there anything really special you can get from the Locohouses?" A: I'm going to say no, but I do think that a very valuable part, 097, can be gotten in abundance at the smallest house. Why valuable? Because you can use it to get other parts at the Locohouses. Q: "What is the best way to collect parts at the Locohouse?" A: Position a bouncer (I hope you have at least one) under where the Locos will get dumped by the airstream so that they are shot out of the opening at the top. From there, you can do a whole lot of things, but that is where I would start. The bouncer parts are some of the most valuable parts to use at the Locohouse, because they can shoot your Loco very far in many directions. Not very accurate, yes, but if you have a lot of Locos then you'll be sitting pretty. Q: "I'm running out of fake questions to ask myself!" A: I know. Q: "I have a better description for part ###!" A: Good for you. I probably don't care, unless you know exactly what Muimui/part bug will give it to you. ======================== 6. Glitches ======================== For a living, I used to beta-test videogames. Most people say it's a crappy job, and it is if it's a crappy game you are stuck playing for days on end. Or, if you don't have an ability to sit 8 hours in front of a TV playing games at a stretch. People I know that had done it before said they never wanted to play games when they got home, but I just wanted to go home and play a game that didn't suck. That being said, whenever I play a game I'm always in debug mode, looking for glitches and bugs. I found three in Locoroco that I am consciously aware of. First, once, I ate fruit before it had fully developed, but I've never been able to do this again so it doesn't really matter. Sometimes you can also cause hidden fruit to start growing even though you didn't touch it, but you touched the other side of the wall it was on; this too is hardly a problem. The only one that actually makes me go "Huh?" is in the Muimui Crane game. Sometimes, if you are very lucky, you can compress two parts together. I have done it about 3 times using 2 blue triangle parts, once using a blue circle and square. What happens is that the parts bend and distort and then somehow miraculously attach themselves to one another. If this is done to triangle parts, one of two things will happen; either the parts will fuse and you will carry them up in your crane towards the catch-bay, but they won't actually fall out of the crane, they'll just sit there at the top of the crane and "float." You can then play the crane again, and the triangles will always be stuck in the crane. You can't drop the crane, as it will detect collision with the triangles, and you'll return to the catch-bay, again trophy less. The only thing to do is to stop playing Muimui crane. When you come back, it will be just like new. If by chance you combine two triangles but don't catch them in your crane, they will float around the screen for a while, and then naturally separate. If you're lucky they might actually float over the catch-bay. When I combined the circle and the square and I dropped it from over the catch-bay, it slowly floated downwards in a drunken motion, but I did get both parts. I think then you only need to be wary of the triangles. You might be able to combine other parts, but you can usually only do it if there are a lot of parts present to begin with, and I don't want to spend all my time doing that. ======================== 7. Speed-run help ======================== Just in case anyone is having difficulty making the speed-runs, here are some hints. ¥ You don't need all the fruit, skip as many as possible. Same goes with Muimui. ¥ No, really skip 'em. The less you have, the smaller your Loco will be, and the less time you have to spend waiting for everyone to assemble (if you break them up). All you need is to reach the goal with a single Loco. ¥ Don't worry about Mojya, toge, etc. UNLESS you are a single Loco. The ones you lose are just extra weight, they'll only slow you down. ¥ The instant you get to the end, immediately break up. You'll save a few seconds rather than waiting for the AI to do it. You can also do it early, as long as a single Loco hits near the tree you'll be fine. ¥ Leave Loco behind. In some levels it will be inevitable that you will have a lot of Loco, and have to go through something that requires you to break them up. On the other side, you can just merge a majority of Loco, and then leave the others behind. Sure, the camera will be a bit funky and they will be eaten by a Mojya, but it might save you a few seconds. ¥ Very tiny jumps at full tilt are faster than rolling. If you jump just a little very rapidly you'll save some time. This does not hold true on fast moving surfaces, like rushing water and fast treadmills, because those are probably still faster than you. ¥ Know the level. If you don't know where you are going, then, well, you're just hurting your time. ¥ Avoid the Unfu-ku (the owl thing), because you lose a good many seconds waiting for him to spit you out. If you use these tactics and whatever works for you, even with making mistakes you can beat each time by a good 10 seconds on almost all levels (even by 20+ in some cases). Some levels, no matter what you do are still cutting it very very close, so you may have to play a few over and over. ======================== 8. Closing Comments ======================== Locoroco is a great game, though the gameplay elements don't vary enough to make it an instant classic. The "gameplay elements staying the same" can also be said for, say, Katamari Damacy, though Katamari had greater variety in what you could collect, and a much grander scale (making it a better game? You decide). I loved this game for the first 3 days I had it, though when I had beaten everything and gotten all the fruit and Muimui, it became incredibly boring. This is why I don't think a FAQ telling where every thing is should be made, because it kills the point of the game being about exploration. If you use a FAQ telling you where everything is, it will only be your fault when you moan how short and boring the game is. One more thought: I was once reading a horribly, horribly written FAQ (though many are horribly written), and what made it so bad is that the person writing it wrote it not objectively; always commented that certain parts were "really hard" or "too easy," wrote many times in the first person "I, I, I" and also gave suggestion like orders "You have to do it this way" or "The way that works best is the way I do it." I've tried to avoid doing this, but of course, it can be a little difficult (especially for the speed-run help, too many orders, and talking about the glitch, as it was a personal experience). One person's idea of what works best is another person's idea of a really dumb thing to do. What works for you is the best way to play the game, I am only trying to offer what little help I care to. No game is too hard if you practice a lot at it.
