Heady Metal, the boss of the game, has escaped. He's capturing kids by defeating them at their own game. Soon nobody will be left to challenge the dark destroyer. But one kid appears on the scene who refuses to be beaten. He is the toughest, coolest head in town. He's Kid Chameleon! Blocks ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Since I'll make a lot of references to different blocks, I'll outline what they are in this section. (Note: Parts of the descriptions came from the manual.) Prize blocks contain items. Break them to get what's inside. They have a P in the middle of them. Once a prize block is broken, it turns into a rock block. Rock blocks can be smashed from above or below. Berzerker can charge through Rock walls. Iron blocks cannot be destroyed, but Berzerker can push them. They are silver blocks with rivets on the edges. Rubber blocks ricochet you in the opposite direction. Bounce on them repeately to jump higher and higher. Cannon blocks fire bullets that blast open holes in other obstacles. If you get in the way of a bullet, you will be hurt. There are markings on the block as to which direction it will fire bullets. Ice blocks are too slick to walk on. They shoot out icicles when broken. Vanishing blocks disappear when touched. Vanishing blocks look like cannon blocks, but they don't have any markings on them. Shifting blocks can be pushed to make steps or escape routes. Enemies caught between shifting blocks will be squashed. Shifting blocks look somewhat like grates. Drill blocks have blades that pulse in and out. They look like iron blocks but are slightly brighter. Mushroom blocks grow another layer on top when hit from below. On the next hit, the lower blocks disappear. Mushroom blocks look like rocks. Ghost blocks appear and disappear. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Scoring ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can earn points in 5 categories. You might not gain points in every category in every round. Time: Bonus points for any time left when the round is cleared. No-Hit: Bonus points for not being hit during the round. No Prize: Bonus points for completing the round without picking up any items. Speed: Bonus points for completing the round quickly. Path: Bonus points for clearing the round by the shortest route. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. The Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I. Blue Lake Woods I: Helmets in the level: Iron Knight You'll start off with a Dragon walking toward you under a row of blocks. Wait for the Dragon to come closer to you and then jump on it. Next, hit all of the prize blocks in the row to get four diamonds and a clock. Continue moving right and either use a dashing jump or the roll to reach the iron blocks. Hit those two prize blocks for diamonds and then drop down. Hit the first prize block and go past the next one and cross the bridge. Kill the Dragon and then go past the prize block. Jump on the rubber blocks and cross to the other side. Continue walking and you'll eventually come to three tiers of blocks. Hit all of the prize blocks to get diamonds and a clock. Drop down and kill the Dragon if you need to. Head right and then jump on the rubber blocks. Keep jumping to get momentum and then jump to the rock blocks. Hit the three prize blocks and one of them will drop an extra life. Now, follow the rock blocks down and kill the Dragon. Next, touch the flag. ----- II. Blue Lake Woods II: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth From the start of the level, break one of the prize blocks to get a Red Stealth helmet. Touch it and then jump on top of the blocks. Jump straight up to reveal a cannon block. Hit the cannon block again and it will fire a bullet. Continue doing this until all four hidden cannon blocks have fired their bullets. Drop down and kill the Tank, then move to the top of the hill. You should see a hole at the top of the rock wall. Jump through it and go to the right. Kill the Tank and hit the prize blocks. Slide down the hill and then jump on the first row of rock blocks. Jump straight up to reveal two prize blocks. Hit them for a clock and a Red Stealth helmet. Drop down and kill the Tank, then continue sliding down the hill. Quickly jump onto the rock blocks and jump straight up in the center of them to reveal a prize block. Hit it again for an extra life. Jump over the drill block and hit the prize blocks with downward thrusts to get a diamond and a Red Stealth helmet. Jump to the next set of rock blocks and jump up in the center of them to reveal another prize block, which contains a continue in it. Go up the hill and kill the Tank. At the top of the hill, you will see a string of prize blocks floating in mid-air. You have a choice of what to do here. If you wish to go to the next level, merely kill the Cannon Tank (but watch out for the bullets it shoots) and touch the flag. However, if you wish to go to Plethora (the final level), jump on the prize blocks until you reach the final one. Then press down+right and hold B+C. You will then warp to Plethora. ----- III. Highwater Pass I: Helmets in the level: Iron Knight, Berzerker Hit the prize blocks at the beginning of the level to get a clock and a Berzerker helmet. Charge the rock blocks to go through them and then hit the cannon blocks. Continue running to the right until you reach a bunch of rubber blocks. Bounce on them a few times to get momentum and then jump to the next ledge. Jump up the ledges and when you reach the top, destroy the Cannon Tank and jump toward the upper-right corner of the cavern to reveal a prize block. Hit it again to reveal a clock. Jump up two block lengths away from the prize block to reveal another prize block and continue doing this across the ceiling. These prize blocks contain two diamonds, an Iron Knight helmet and a continue. Continue left and hit the prize block for a clock. Continue to the left and hit the prize block next to the wall for an Iron Knight helmet. Hit the block again to destroy it and then press C repeatedly in order to climb up the wall. Jump off onto the next ledge, being careful not to hit the spikes, and then destroy the Cannon Tank. Hit the prize block for a Berzerker helmet and then charge through the prize blocks. Now slowly make the jumps across the spikes so that you don't accidentally destroy any prize blocks. After going through the column of cannon blocks, you'll eventually come to a prize block next to a wall. Don't hit it, but jump on it and then jump to the next platform. Make a dashing jump to reach the next ledge and then make another dashing jump across the spikes. Kill the Sludge on the other side as soon as it's possible (its will be all the way open). Hit the ice blocks and then make a dashing jump across the spikes and go through the center of the wall on the other side. Hit the prize blocks and jump up to reveal some more prize blocks. Hit those to get Berzerker helmets, diamonds and a clock. Jump back across the spikes and jump on the rubber blocks. Wait for the Sludge to face away from you and fire its bullet, then jump up onto the Sludge and bounce on it twice to kill it. Next, wait for the ghost blocks to your right to disappear, then make a dashing jump to the ledge. Hit all the prize blocks, then jump back across. Head up the hill and hit the two prize blocks, then jump across the gap. Kill the Sludge and then make a dashing jump to go on top of the shifting blocks. Kill the Sludge and then go to the right. Kill the Cannon Tank and then go on and touch the flag. ----- IV. Highwater Pass II: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth, Maniaxe Make a dashing jump off the first edge in order to kill the first Hand. Then, jump on the mushroom blocks and jump on the next Hand. Hit the prize blocks for a Red Stealth helmet and then continue right. Go up the inclined plane and then hit the Purple Crystal repeatedly with your sword. Keep walking and slide down the hill and jump across to the other wall. Turn and kill the Purple Crystal and jump to the next ledge. Run to the right and quickly kill the Sludge. Jump to the right and turn around to destroy the Purple Crystal. Continue down the path, killing any enemies you meet and move through the ghost blocks when they have vanished. After the final pair of ghost blocks, drop down and kill the Purple Crystal. Then climb up the next hill. Hit the prize blocks to get diamonds and a Maniaxe helmet. Jump to the ceiling to the left of the blocks to reveal more prize blocks. Hit these for more items and continue to the left. You'll eventually drop down into a new cavern. Destroy the Purple Crystal and hit all of the prize blocks except the second one from the right corner at the top. This prize block contains a Red Stealth helmet, and Maniaxe will be much more useful in the next level. Go to the right and jump on the transporter. Wait for it to transport you back to the main portion of the level. Move to the left and wait for the Hand to go above the shifting blocks. Then jump up and hit the shifting blocks to kill the Hand. You have a choice on what to do now. If you wish to go to Elsewhere A, jump on the platforms of shifting and iron blocks and eventually you'll find a transporter. Wait on it to go to Elsewhere A. If you wish to merely go to the next level, go to the right and hit the cannon block to take out the ice blocks. Next, slide down the hill and kill the Purple Crystals and jump over the drill blocks until you reach the flag. ----- V. Under Skull Mountain I: Helmets in the level: Maniaxe Hit the prize blocks at the beginning and drop down. Slide down the hill and then go to the right. Hit the prize blocks and one of them will give you a continue. Next, continue right and you'll see an iron block. Jump on it and then make dashing jumps to each of the platforms. Make sure you keep track of whether Skulls are going to fall down on your head. After the next iron block, jump to the platform near the wall. Go to the wall and jump up. You'll reveal a prize block. Then take one step to the left and jump up again. Destroy this prize block and then jump on the block next to the wall and jump up and to the left to reveal another prize block that contains 10 diamonds. Next, jump to the next platform and jump to the next platform to find some prize blocks intermixed with ghost blocks. Time your jumps to avoid being killed by the ghost blocks reappearing and hit all the blocks to get diamonds and a clock. Drop to the very bottom and then go to the right and fall down the passage. Go left and hit the prize blocks for Maniaxe helmets. Hit the two Dragons with axes and drop down off the ledge. Slide down the hill and then making a dashing jump. If you land on the ledge to the left, jump across the gap to the other ledge. Jump up to reveal prize blocks. One of them has a continue. Drop down again and slide down the hill. Make a dashing jump to clear the spikes and then quickly hit the P block above the ghost blocks before they disappear. Keep your position on the hill so that you can collect the 1-up and then slide down it. Make another dashing jump across the spikes and kill the Slimes if you need to. Go to the right and jump at the wall while holding right. You'll fall through the wall at some point. Go left and kill the Dragon with an ax. Jump in between the two prize blocks in the ceiling in order to reveal a new prize block with 10 diamonds in it. Hit all the prize blocks and then use the transporter. You'll come out on a mushroom block. Jump to the next two platforms of mushroom blocks and hit the prize block above the second one for an extra life. Next, jump back to the first mushroom block platform and drop down. Run across the vanishing blocks and jump on the ledge with the flag on it. You can jump over the flag and drop down into a secret area with a few diamonds in it or touch the flag. ----- VI. Under Skull Mountain II: Helmets in the level: Juggernaut, Micromax If you wish to skip this level, don't hit the prize blocks, but instead go down the steps and destroy the Purple Crystal with axes. Then keep going left and use the transporter to go to Elsewhere B. However, if you wish to complete this level, hit the prize blocks and put on the Juggernaut helmet. Also pick up the clock that's in one of the blocks. Go to the left and jump on the blocks above the gap. Be aware that an Imp is going to fall down to your left. Fire skulls at it to kill it and then move on. As you approach the next set of blocks, wait a second and an Imp will fall down in the middle of them and go down the pit. Jump across the blocks and then continue moving left. Before reaching the drill block, stop and kill the Imp that will fall down. You can fire skulls in between the holes of the blocks in this next stretch if you wish to kill the Purple Crystals. If you've lost the Juggernaut ability, do not go down the holes in between the blocks. Kill the Purple Crystal in front of you and continue moving left. Wait for the ghost block to not be present in the gap. Then, fall down and then fall on the vanishing blocks. If you need more health or just want to switch forms, go to the left when you reach the row of vanishing blocks. Inside, jump up to reveal two prize blocks. One has a Micromax helmet in it and the other contains a clock. When you hit the ground, fire skulls at the Purple Crystal and then move right. Wait for the lava to go into the ground and then jump across the gap. Continue this process of killing the Purple Crystals and jumping across the lava when the lava flow is not raised. Eventually, you'll reach the flag. ----- VII. Under Skull Mountain III: Helmets in the level: Berzerker, Maniaxe, Red Stealth You will need to be incredibly efficient in this level. The time limit will sneak up on you. First, ignore the Flying Dragon and go down the hill. Hit the middle prize block in the first set of them to get a Maniaxe helmet. Put it on and then throw an axe at the Dragon at the bottom of the hill. Next, jump on the ghost blocks and jump up while the one above you has vanished. Eventually, you'll reach the top. Jump up to reveal some secret prize blocks containing diamonds. Next, drop down and kill the Flying Dragon closest to the ground and the Fire Walker. Go to the right and jump over the drill blocks. You'll come to some vanishing blocks next to some lava. Wait for a platform to come down and jump on it. Continue jumping on the platforms until you're on the one closest to the wall. Go the right side of the platform, then jump up and hit the cannon block when it comes into view. Jump in the alcove and then slide down the hills and kill the Fire Walker at the bottom. Next, jump on the platforms, but go to the left side when you reach the last platform. Hit the cannon blocks, then make a running jump into the alcove. Slide down the hills and then kill the Fire Walker. Jump to the second platform and go to the left side of it. Hit the cannon blocks, then jump to the next platform and then jump in the alcove. Slide down the hills and kill the Dragon. Jump to the second platform again and hit the cannon blocks, then jump to the third platform in order to jump in the alcove. Slide down the first hill, but then jump through the wall. You should see prize blocks past the wall. Hit the first prize block you come to for a Berzerker helmet. Rush into the iron blocks to slide them to the wall. Then jump to them and hit the prize blocks for a continue and an extra life. Next, hit the cannon blocks and drop down in order to reach the flag. ----- VIII. Isle of the Lion Lord: Helmets in the level: Iron Knight, Red Stealth, Maniaxe From the start, drop down and then go to the left to get the Iron Knight helmet. Then use the diamond power to give yourself another hit point. Kill the Lion Lord and continue to the right. Hit the prize blocks under the iron blocks if you need health and then jump up. Get the Red Stealth helmet from the prize blocks in this next area. If you want to get a clock, then run into the little opening between the iron blocks and hit the prize block at the end. Then go out and jump on the iron blocks then run left until you reach the flag. ----- IX. Hills of the Warrior I: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth, Maniaxe If you are Red Stealth, don't bother hitting any prize blocks in this level. If you aren't, hit one of the prize blocks at the start to get the Red Stealth helmet. The objective of this level is to outrun a giant spiked wall that slowly follows you. From the start, go to the right and jump up to the top of the hill. Drop down onto the rock blocks and jump across the gaps. After this stretch, drop down on top of the Dragon and then run to the right. You'll eventually reach some iron blocks. Jump up to the apex of the blocks and then run down. Make a dashing jump over the last platform of blocks. Ignore the Skull here and jump up to the top of the hill. Run across the set of ice blocks, but try to jump over the two cannon blocks. If you hit them, then they will fire bullets at the cannon blocks below, which will then destroy the whole ice block bridge. After this stretch, drop on the ghost block and jump on the statue. Jump to the vanishing blocks and run across them. Try to duck under the cannon block at the end. If you can't, then quickly run to the right and jump over the hill. As you're going down the hill, find the ledge with a rock at the edge and duck. Wait for the bullets to fly over your head. After the bullets go past, go down the hill and then jump over the Skull and land on the rock blocks. Jump up to the elevated platform and run to the right. Be sure to cross the ghost block when it's visible. At the end of the platform, jump onto the statue and then jump onto the ghost block. Quickly run to the right so that the ghost block does not disappear under you. If it does, bounce on the rubber blocks to the right and then bounce up until you can get to the top of the statue. Afterward, drop down of the statue and run to the right. There will be a small statue in front of you. Jump over the top of it and go two steps down. If you're still Red Stealth, you can make a running jump off this step and clear the statue to the right. Otherwise, you'll have to use the rubber block to get high enough to proceed. Drop down from the statue and try to land on the ghost block. If you can't, it's no big deal. After the stretch of ice blocks, jump on the vanishing blocks, then run right and jump on the shifting blocks. Just run to the right as if you jump, you'll hit some drill blocks. After the stretch of shifting blocks, jump past the Skull and then jump onto the iron blocks. Keep going to the right until you reach the flag. ----- X. Hills of the Warrior II: Helmets in the level: Berzerker, Maniaxe, Juggernaut From the start, kill the Dragon, but don't hit either prize block. Next, jump up the rock blocks until you reach the top boundary of the level. You should see a prize block to your left. Hit it if you want the Juggernaut helmet. Jump to the right and hit one of the prize blocks for a Maniaxe helmet if you want it. The third prize block contains a clock. Kill the Flying Dragon and then continue right. Continue jumping on the rock blocks until you come to a structure with some Dragons and a Tank on it. Kill them all, then jump on the rock blocks and continue right. Kill the Tank at the next land mass and then jump on the rock blocks to the right. Jump to the next stone structure and go right. You should see some vanishing blocks with some cannon blocks below them. You have a choice now. If you wish to go to Elsewhere C, jump down and then either evade the Flying Dragon's attacks or it kill it. Continue right and you'll see a transporter. Step on it and you'll be sent to Elsewhere C. Otherwise, jump across the vanishing blocks and the cannon blocks quickly until you reach solid ground. If you accidentally fall, then kill all the Flying Dragons and the Tank, then hit the underside of one of the lifts that are next to the right wall. Jump on it and wait for it to count down. When it does, the lift will rise up. Jump off of it once you reach the next area. Next, you should see some rock blocks in front of you with a small hole at the bottom. Crouch and then crawl through the hole. Hit the prize block in order to get a Berserker helmet and then plow your way through the other column of rock blocks. Ignore the Flying Dragon and drop down. Run to the right through an invisible hole through the hill and plow through the next set of rock blocks. Following that, drop down and touch the flag. ----- XI. Windy City: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth, Maniaxe At the beginning, jump straight up and knock the shifting blocks up so that you can kill the tank above you. Keep knocking the shifting blocks up so that you can reach the string of shifting blocks next to it and avoid being hit by the Cannon Tank. Following that, drop down and kill the Cannon Tank when it comes under the hole. Next, run to the right and jump on the iron blocks, then jump to the shifting blocks to the left. Follow the shifting blocks until you find some prize blocks with a Clock and a Maniaxe helmet. Now, go back down the shifting blocks until you hit the ground. Now, go right and jump through the wall. Continue moving right and eventually you'll reach a hole. Drop down it and veer to the right to avoid hitting the cannon blocks. Carefully move off the rubber blocks and onto the concrete, then walk through the slime drips after they drop to the ground. Continue moving to the left and you'll see a couple prize blocks containing a clock and a Red Stealth helmet. Next, jump on the string of rubber blocks and jump over the Fire Walkers as they come toward you. Land on the concrete afterward and hit the cannon blocks pointing at the rock wall. Wait for the Fire Walker on the other side to back away and then jump across the gap. Next, jump over the Fire Walker and slide on the ice blocks. Jump over the column of drill blocks and then slide on the ice blocks until you reach the flag. ----- XII. Sinister Sewers: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth, Micromax First, kill the Sludge and wait for the Fireball to go past you. Next, jump to the space two blocks to the left of the string of prize blocks in order to reveal a hidden prize block with a Micromax helmet in it. Jump to the platform to the right and then jump on the vanishing blocks, then quickly jump to the next platform. Jump on the next platforms, but be aware they will fall or rise immediately after you land on them. On the next platform, kill the Sludge and avoid the Fireball. Afterward, jump to the right and jump onto each of the falling platforms. Jump quickly on each or you won't reach the next one. At the end of the string, you'll be at a platform with a prize block containing a Red Stealth helmet. Put it on. Jump to the next platforms and kill the Tornadoes that come your way. When you reach the right wall, drop down the platforms until you reach the flag. ----- XIII. The Crystal Crags I: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth, Berzerker, Micromax From the start, jump up the mountain. When you reach the top, drop down to the ledge to the southeast of the prize block. Edge underneath it and hit it to receive an extra life. Next, jump onto the rock blocks and hit the second prize block from the left for a Red Stealth helmet or the rightmost prize block for a Berzerker helmet. Next, go to the left and drop down off the rock blocks. Head to the right and keep as much to the top of the terrain as you can. Eventually, the horizon should get dark and hail will begin to fall down from the sky. Try to avoid it as best you can. After you pass by a bridge of ice blocks, drop down and you'll see two prize blocks. One contains a clock. Get it and then jump on top of the prize blocks. From there, jump to the rubber blocks. Bounce to the ledge to the right. From here, you have two choices. You can go up and stay in the hailstorm longer or you can drop down and enter a cave below you. If you choose to go into the cave, drop down the center of the paths until you hit the ground. Then, go to the left and jump on the iron blocks. Hit the cannon blocks in order to destroy the ice blocks. From there, go right and bypass all the cannon blocks. At the end, you'll find some rock blocks. If you're Berzerker, you can just go through these and reach a transporter that will take you to Elsewhere D, but if you're not, back up a little and jump up the stairs. Break the ice blocks at the top of the stairs and then jump to the right. Jump in the corner there and you'll reveal a hidden prize block. Hit it again to get a Berzerker helmet. Now you can either follow the path to the right and eventually reach the flag, or you can drop back down and go to the transporter. Note that if you choose to go to the transporter, you will have to bounce on a rubber block in order to actually reach the transporter. If you choose to go up and remain in the hailstorm, jump on the ledge and then jump down. Run to the right and wait for the Hand to be facing the opposite way as you, then jump on it. Continue to the right and jump on the prize blocks, then jump to the mushroom blocks. From there, jump to the cavern. Go right and go past the prize blocks. Jump up in the northeast corner to reveal the hidden prize block with the Berzerker helmet in it and go right to reach the flag. If you want to reach Elsewhere D, break the ice blocks with downward slashes from Red Stealth before you get the Berzerker helmet. ----- XIV. The Crystal Crags II: Helmets in the level: Red Stealth From the start, walk to the left, but stop before you reach the rows of blocks. Wait for the Dragon to come down and kill it. Next, jump on the iron block, then jump to the iron blocks on the left. You'll see a ghost block under some prize blocks. Jump to it when it's visible and hit at least the middle two prize blocks for a clock and a Red Stealth helmet. Now run to the right, past all the cannon blocks. When you reach the end, you can either continue moving right, or you can hit the last set of cannon blocks to destroy the ice blocks under them and go down that passageway. If you go down, then you'll get a few extra lives, a continue and some clocks, but you'll also have to deal with ghost blocks over pits as well as some ice blocks and drill blocks. Be aware that you'll eventually hit a dead end if you go down, so you'll have to go right sometime anyway. After going to the right, jump over the drill blocks and kill the Dragons you meet. You should eventually see a huge chunk of rock blocks with a prize block in front of it. Hit the prize block if you need another Red Stealth helmet and jump onto the rock. Go as far to the right as you can and then use downward slashes to reach the next area. Kill the Dragon and continue right. Drop down the side and kill the Purple Crystal, then pass under the drill blocks. Go to the right and kill the Dragon beneath the mushroom blocks. You can build the mushroom blocks up in order to reach the prize blocks above, but all they contain are diamonds and a clock. Next, go right and jump through the hole between the iron blocks, then kill the two dragons and hop up the hill to reach the flag. ----- XV. Dragonspike: Helmets in the level: Berzerker -All enemies in this level take one more hit to destroy than they normally do. -There is a section where you can use Berzerker to go through some rock blocks and go down.
