Weapon elements will be familiar to Orochi fans. This installment brings further customization in the form of upgrade skills, which are crafted from spare weapons and used to improve your arms collection even further. This guide is intended for newcomers to the series and those already familiar with pimping out their equipment. It covers a variety of material from the basics of fusion to weapon maximization. To properly display the Japanese text in this FAQ, set your browser encoding to Shift JIS. =============================================================================== 2) Elements [ELEMENTS] =============================================================================== Unchanged from Warriors Orochi, these enhancements are randomly found on weapons and replaced or leveled up via weapon fusion. They add various special effects, such as fire, guard breaking, or increased reach. A weapon can contain up to 8 elements, with a maximum level of 10 for each. Unless the weapon includes the Almighty (天舞) upgrade skill, elements only activate during charge attacks or certain R1 specials. Some characters' multi-hit charges are fully elemental, whereas other such charges only activate elements on one or more particular strikes. Element recommendations are written with weapon maximization in mind. A maximized weapon has the highest attack power possible while being practical for a character to use during long stints of solo gameplay. All the oomph in the world won't do much good if the character keeps getting interrupted or can't maintain a healthy musou supply for specials. To maximize a weapon, load it up with all attack boosters effective for that character's move set. Replace attack boosters with support elements as needed. If maximization isn't important to you, just go with whatever elements are the most fun to play with. You might enjoy juggling fiery enemies or freezing your foes. Range and Agility can make it easier to set up and continue combos. _______________________________________________________________________________ 炎 Flame Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Sets the enemy on fire. As long as they're airborne, they will continue to burn. If Ice is present, there is a 50% chance that either element will activate. ________________________________________ The burn rate pales in comparison to damage from other attack boosters. Unless you have a spare slot and nothing else better, don't bother. _______________________________________________________________________________ 氷 Ice Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Has a 40% chance of freezing the enemy for 4 seconds. Extra damage done to a frozen target increases with the element level, up to 1.6x at level 10. ________________________________________ Between the low freeze rate and unimpressive additional damage, most characters are best off with a more reliable attack booster. Ice is especially poor for technique types because it prevents their critical hit damage on airborne targets. Techs can't land critical hits on something that is frozen to the ground. _______________________________________________________________________________ 雷 Bolt Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases damage to the target. Tends to drop the target down nearby instead of letting them fall, scatter, or get knocked back as they usually would. Chains to surrounding enemies. This chain lightning effect widens the attack's effective reach and can produce amplified collateral damage in large peon crowds. ________________________________________ A must for most. There are a very few attacks, such as Okuni's C4 umbrella bounce, that won't land all hits correctly with Bolt because of the way it affects targets' movement after a hit. _______________________________________________________________________________ 陽 Flash Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Breaks enemies' guard and does additional damage, up to 1.3x at level 10. The chance of guard break increases with the element level. At level 10, Flash will always work. ________________________________________ Get this. _______________________________________________________________________________ 斬 Slay Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Consider this to be a death or vorpal element. Has up to a 25% chance of killing a peon instantly. Against officers, takes a certain percentage of the enemy's health. This percentage increases with the element level. ________________________________________ Essential. _______________________________________________________________________________ 吸生 Drain Support Element _______________________________________________________________________________ Restores an amount of health proportionate to the damage done. ________________________________________ Only consider Drain if you need it to survive and the character has attacks that make efficient use of it. The Adrenalin ability (連撃回復) is generally better. However, some characters tend to lose health over time, even with skilled gameplay. Drain can also be a helpful safety net for high difficulty battles. _______________________________________________________________________________ 吸活 Absorb Support Element _______________________________________________________________________________ Restores an amount of musou proportionate to the damage done. ________________________________________ Useful for characters with efficient musou drain-back and an offense based on musou-consuming specials. For instance, Cao Ren's C2-ex and C3-ex are his most powerful attacks. They also drain back well. With Absorb, he can keep a healthy musou supply and spam these charges at will. Characters who infrequently use low-cost musou-consuming specials, such as Lu Meng with his fire bullets, should take the Supremacy (賦活) upgrade skill instead of Absorb. _______________________________________________________________________________ 破天 Air Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases damage to airborne targets. This includes juggled enemies and foes hit by a scattering attack from a technique character who also has Bolt equipped. Technique types incur critical hits on lifted targets. For reasons observed but not yet well known, Bolt allows the full force of Air and critical hits to kick in against scattered enemies. ________________________________________ As a rule of thumb, technique characters should equip Air. For other types compatible with Bolt and Multi, Air is the least important attack booster. It's good to include, but drop it first if you need room for a support element. _______________________________________________________________________________ 勇猛 Brave Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases damage to officers, up to 1.4x at level 10 (and up to 2x with level 10 Might). ________________________________________ Highly recommended if Might has already been included. Hooray for synergy. _______________________________________________________________________________ 旋風 Range Support Element _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases the reach of the character's weapon, adding 10% of the normal reach per element level. Maximum reach is 2x (100% additional) at level 10. Has little effect on most punches and kicks, such as Meng Huo's attacks, or small weapons like Oichi's kendama. Has no effect on attacks that don't strike with the actual weapon, such as energy waves and firepower. ________________________________________ Recommended for characters who gain noticeable reach and have improved offense or defense with that extra reach. For the most part, Power types don't need Range for safety because they can Leeroy Jenkins through crowds without losing a lot of health. _______________________________________________________________________________ 分身 Multi Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Creates illusions that strike the enemy for 0.1x damage. Each illusion carries elements. Depending on the attack, Multi can fling the enemy far away. Has no effect on attacks that don't strike with the actual weapon. ________________________________________ Often useful but not always desirable. In some cases, Multi can mess up combo timing or push targets out of the way early so they won't be hit by the later strikes of a repeatedly hitting charge attack. It can also send enemies flying so the character needs to chase them a while for a follow-up attack. Sometimes it is faster to use an extra charge attack against a target than it is to run all the way after a target in between Multi-imbued strikes. _______________________________________________________________________________ 神速 Agility Support Element _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases attack speed, adding 10% of the normal speed per element level. Maximum speed is 2x at level 10. Too much Agility can unwantedly move the strike point of certain charge attacks. Most strike point bugs have been fixed since WO, but a few stragglers remain. Agility overload can also decrease Multi damage because not all of the clones will hit. ________________________________________ Consider this for characters who tend to get interrupted during their charge attack execution. Agility also decreases ending lag to some extent. Depending on the character, the Stability (頑強) or Highflier (飛龍) upgrade skills might solve their slowness issues and leave an open spot for another weapon element. _______________________________________________________________________________ 極意 Might Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases attack power, up to 1.4x at level 10. ________________________________________ Incredibly handy. What are you waiting for? _______________________________________________________________________________ 背水 Rage Attack Booster _______________________________________________________________________________ Increases damage as the character's health decreases. Maximum is 2x at level 10 with health in the red zone. ________________________________________ This element can be interesting for experimental purposes, like a specialty weapon for KO'ing Orochi X in a single charge. It is not practical for standard gameplay. Kunoichi, the only character who can consistently survive in red health, kills fast enough already that it isn't worthwhile to be one mistake away from death. =============================================================================== 3) Upgrade Skills [UPGRADES] =============================================================================== New in Warriors Orochi 2, upgrade skills are additional power-ups for weapons. Up to three can be added to a weapon. Upgrade skills are unlocked by finding treasures in battle and made out of spare weapons with specific combinations of elements. Search for an upgrade skill's index key to jump ahead to the details of which treasures unlock it and which elements are needed to create it. To look up the unlocking instructions for a treasure, search for the treasure number in brackets, e.g. [#0] Level 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 兵法 Guile Duration of power-up items increased. [GUI] 不屈 Iron Will Attack strength doubled when Life Gauge is red after [IRO] getting up from an attack. 旋回 Acrobatics Easier to do flips. [ACR] 補給 Nutrition Peaches appear more frequently after defeating an [NUT] enemy. 狙撃 Firepower Arrow and missile attack strength increases. [FIR] Level 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 天活 Verity Can perform True Musou attacks without Life Gauge in [VER] the red. 天陣 Teamwork Can perform Triple Attacks without Life Gauge in the [TEA] red. 瀉曲 Evasion Reduces damage taken. [EVA] 頑強 Stability Can perform Charge Attacks without getting stunned [STA] when attacked by the enemy. 飛龍 Highflier Can jump while in the middle of a Charge Attack. [HIG] (Hiryu) Level 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 金甲 Resolve Retain balance when attacked by arrows or missile [RES] attacks. 連攜 Synergy Can perform Support Attacks even when your team [SYN] members' Musou Gauges are half full. 賦活 Supremacy Musou Gauge replenishes over time. [SUP] 再生 Revival Your Life Gauge will be fully replenished once during [REV] the battle if it reaches zero. 天舞 Almighty Your attacks will have elemental effects when your [ALM] (Tenbu) Musou Gauge is full. _______________________________________________________________________________ 兵法 Guile Duration of power-up items increased. [GUI] _______________________________________________________________________________ o------------------o | #1 黒曜石 | | Obsidian | |------------------| | 炎 Flame 1 | o------------------o Buff items last about 30% longer than usual. _______________________________________________________________________________ 不屈 Iron Will Attack strength doubled when Life Gauge is red after [IRO] getting up from an attack. _______________________________________________________________________________ o------------------o | #2 翡翠 | | Jade | |------------------| | 勇猛 Brave 1 | o------------------o _______________________________________________________________________________ 旋回 Acrobatics Easier to do flips. [ACR] _______________________________________________________________________________ o-------------------------------------o | #3 琥珀 | | Amber | |-------------------------------------| | 破天 Air 1 旋風 Range 1 | o-------------------------------------o Allows you to trigger mid-air recovery sooner than usual. _______________________________________________________________________________ 補給 Nutrition Peaches appear more frequently after defeating an [NUT] enemy. _______________________________________________________________________________ o-------------------------------------o | #4 蛍石 | | Fluorite | |-------------------------------------| | 吸生 Drain 1 吸活 Absorb 1 | o-------------------------------------o Increases the drop rate of healing items from enemies. _______________________________________________________________________________ 狙撃 Firepower Arrow and missile attack strength increases. [FIR] _______________________________________________________________________________ o---------------------------------------------------------o | #5 金 | | Silver | |---------------------------------------------------------| | 勇猛 Brave 1 神速 Agility 1 極意 Might 1 | o---------------------------------------------------------o This specifically applies to arrows and certain bullets. For instance, it will affect archery C1 attacks from Huang Zhong and Xiahou Yuan as well as R1 arrow spray from Ina and Sun Shang Xiang. Highly recommended for characters with strong staple attacks that see a significant damage increase with this upgrade. Some projectiles get little to no improvement from Firepower. _______________________________________________________________________________ 天活 Verity Can perform True Musou attacks without Life Gauge in [VER] the red. Teamwork Can perform Triple Attacks without Life Gauge in the [TEA] red. _______________________________________________________________________________ o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o | #7 金剛石 | | Diamond | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 炎 Flame 1 旋風 Range 1 分身 Multi 1 極意 Might 1 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________________________________ 瀉曲 Evasion Reduces damage taken. [EVA] _______________________________________________________________________________ o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o | #8 孔雀石 | | Malachite | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 陽 Flash 1 吸生 Drain 1 旋風 Range 1 背水 Rage 1 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o If there is room, this may be worth considering for a character with a low defense stat. Some other upgrade might help the character avoid damage entirely, which is preferable. _______________________________________________________________________________ 頑強 Stability Can perform Charge Attacks without getting stunned [STA] when attacked by the enemy. Might 1 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o Think of this as the Charge Bracer item from the Dynasty Warriors games. If you are hit during a charge attack, you won't be interrupted, but you will get hurt if the enemy's attack power is high enough. This is great for non-Power type characters with planted charges, such as Cao Ren and his C3. It can also be used as a substitute for Agility if the character's main problem is getting interrupted during the charge attack. _______________________________________________________________________________ 飛龍 Highflier Can jump while in the middle of a Charge Attack. Might 1 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o Reminiscent of the Dragon Arms item, this upgrade skill is useful for non- Speed types who wish to eliminate charge ending lag or have more combo versatility. As with Stability (頑強), this might be preferable to Agility in some cases. _______________________________________________________________________________ 金甲 Resolve Retain balance when attacked by arrows or missile [RES] attacks. Rage 1 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o Just plain awesome. Resolve applies to both arrows and bullets and prevents characters from flinching at any time, not just while attacking. Apart from being an occasional nuisance while you're on horseback, firepower becomes largely irrelevant. Unless you have an early high-priority attack for taking out firepower, this is a must-buy. _______________________________________________________________________________ 連攜 Synergy Can perform Support Attacks even when your team [SYN] members' Musou Gauges are half full. Supremacy Musou Gauge replenishes over time. Might 2 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o Similar to the Refill ability (回復無双). Helpful to characters who regularly use small amounts of musou for R1 specials, especially with other musou conservation and restoration in their setup. _______________________________________________________________________________ 再生 Revival Your Life Gauge will be fully replenished once during [REV] the battle if it reaches zero. Almighty Your attacks will have elemental effects when your [ALM] (Tenbu) Musou Gauge is full. Might 2 | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o Yep. It's the infamous win button. Almighty will apply to standard attacks, running attacks, R1 specials, and various non-elemental charge attack strikes. Certain charges that do not normally activate weapon elements will not be affected. This varies from character to character. Of course, musou- consuming R1 specials will not be Almighty unless you have temporary infinite musou at the time. The Agility element can speed up regular attacks to a point at which charges may be difficult to pull off. If this becomes a problem, limit or remove Agility. =============================================================================== 4) Treasures [TREASURES] =============================================================================== Collect treasures to unlock various upgrade skills. When you meet the treasure requirements in battle, you will see a valuable item report with a marked location. Go to that location and look for a fancy colored box, which will either be mostly purple or black and gold. Break the box, pick up the item inside, and complete the battle. Battle log message spam can sometimes delay a treasure report. If you met the requirements and the report hasn't shown up, wait around and see if it does. Once you obtain a treasure, it's yours for good. They are not used up in the process of making upgrade skills. When known, actual time limits are listed as a requirement. Approximate time limits verified by myself and others are given as a guideline. In some cases, all the requirements must be taken care of by one player. Requirements known to have this limitation are noted. In general, if you are having trouble getting an item on 2-player mode, have the same person defeat all of the specific enemies listed in the unlocking conditions - officers, sorcerers, etc. If that doesn't work, try it on 1-player. I obtained all the treasures by myself. 黒曜石 Obsidian ............. [#1] 陰陽珠 Onyx ..................... [#16] 翡翠 Jade ................... [#2] 吸魂砂 Garnet ................... Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Once again, get rid of all the officers in the fort. To be certain, take it over within 3 minutes of the start of battle. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzlF0aQffXk Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the northwest corner of the targeted fort near the drum. _______________________________________________________________________________ 琥珀 Amber [#3] Wei 2 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Help Xiahou Yuan carry out his fire plan. - Defeat Chen Gong (陳宮). Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Clear the path to the northeast area by defeating all the enemies and closing the checkpoints en route. Xiahou Yuan will mosey on up to the northeast clearing. When he gets there, Kotaro Fuma will spring an ambush. Get rid of Kotaro and his ninja friends, who appear as red dots on the map. The center area contains a hyper officer pileup. You can defeat some of them if you really want to, but leave at least one around for the fire attack. (If you take them all out, the attack will be canceled.) Xiahou Yuan will wander to the center and eventually set the place on fire. Keep the assorted baddies away from him until he pulls off his plan. Wait around until Lu Bu opens the gates of his fortress, then take out Chen Gong. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIDXzmsX62Y Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- Outside the northwest fort. _______________________________________________________________________________ 蛍石 Fluorite [#4] Wu 2 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Escort Xiao Qiao to the west to draw out Dong Zhuo. - Zhou Yu must not be defeated. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Beat up on various enemies. After you defeat Goemon Ishikawa, Xiao Qiao and Zhou Yu will have a conversation. Xiao Qiao then heads west. Her destination is the center checkpoint at the west side of the battlefield. Follow Xiao Qiao and clear a path for her. She holds her own pretty well, so you don't need to babysit her the entire way. When you reach the northwest corner of the map, enemy reinforcements will show up and go after your main camp. Dash off to defeat them. If Xiao Qiao is stuck in a crowd, clear out enemies to help her along. When Xiao Qiao reaches the designated checkpoint at the west side of the battlefield, Dong Zhuo will appear. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbeqhk2-xnw Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- Just north of the southwest checkpoint after Xiao Qiao talks with Dong Zhuo. _______________________________________________________________________________ 金 Silver [#5] SW 2 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Defeat the four ambushing squads. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Follow Da Ji around and defeat all the officers in each ambush that pops up. The first appears just east of your starting point. The second ambush occurs at the northeast castle. The third, including Kojiro Sasaki, shows up at the east altar. The fourth is in the center of the map. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuA9ddDi3OA Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the south central clearing near Himiko. _______________________________________________________________________________ 瑪瑙 Agate [#6] Orochi 2 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Open the southern gates of Cheng Du as soon as possible. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Take out everyone in the south fort. You'll get a message about finding engineers, and some spots will flash on the map. Run around the fort through the indicated points until the engineers show up. Beat them to unlock the west gates of the fort. Defeat the two officers outside Cheng Du to open the castle gates. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvoniQWaj50 Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- Near Zhuge Liang. _______________________________________________________________________________ 金剛石 Diamond [#7] Shu 3 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Quickly call for reinforcements from Lu Xun. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- The targeted officers will show up within a few minutes of the start of battle. Until then, you may as well be productive. Clear out enemies in the middle of the map. Get rid of the defense captain in the center fort to stop the catapults and help your allies. Cao Xing (曹性) and Hou Cheng (侯成) will arrive in the north. Defeat them. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6JR9k28wOw Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- Near Diao Chan after Lu Xun arrives. _______________________________________________________________________________ 孔雀石 Malachite [#8] Wei 3 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Defeat all five juggernauts. - Convince Yuan Tan (袁譚) and Yuan Xi (袁熙) to defect. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Get rid of the juggernauts. You can defeat officers in the center fort if you wish, but leave the west fort alone. Taking out the wrong generals will cause the plan to fail. Head to the south center area of the map and clear out enemies. When Zhang He sends out Xun You (荀攸), escort him up to Yuan Tan. After Yuan Tan defects, Yuan Shao will send out Jiang Wei. After you are told to defeat Jiang Wei, take him out to get Yuan Xi to switch sides. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwVU1m0zhbA Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the middle of the large fort where some of the juggernauts were. _______________________________________________________________________________ 水晶 Crystal [#9] Wu 3 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Successfully carry out two fire attacks. - Defeat Pang Tong. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Clear a path up to Cao Ren and his pals. Take them all out. After the first fire attack succeeds, Meng Huo will appear in the eastern poison swamp and head toward the clearing to the north. Follow him and get rid of enemies. When Meng Huo reaches the clearing, you will be ambushed. Naturally you want to get rid of the ambush. Meng Huo will hang around the secret passage entrance and eventually disappear. At this point, Pang Tong brings an entourage to bum rush your main camp. Defeat the sneaky little man. The item should show up after Meng Huo reappears and launches another fire attack. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0X61mEx_Uw Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the center north clearing close to where Cao Zhang (曹彰) was. _______________________________________________________________________________ 青玉 Sapphire [#10] SW 3 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Get 300 KO's while Yukimura Sanada is still alive. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- This one's easy. You'll probably unlock it just by playing through the battle, as there are plenty of enemies to kill and Yukimura holds his own pretty well. Just clear out crowds as you advance, and you'll be fine. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24d0Wrl6RDU Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the middle of the clearing at the center of the map. _______________________________________________________________________________ 紅玉 Ruby [#11] Orochi 3 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Quickly defeat Yukimura Sanada while Keiji Maeda is still alive. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Rush down to the southeast fortress and beat the crap out of Yukimura. To be certain, take him out within 6 minutes of the start of battle. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eENYOepQ5yQ Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- On the path leading north out of the southwest enemy camp. _______________________________________________________________________________ 神行符 Amethyst [#12] SW 4 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Quickly defeat Keiji Maeda and all four officers near him. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Head east and bump off each officer as you encounter them. To be certain, finish defeating them all within 4 minutes of the start of battle. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I63GLA3wHSY Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- Just west of the dock near Keiji. _______________________________________________________________________________ 定海珠 Moonstone [#13] Orochi 4 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quickly do the following - - Break the bridge. - Defeat Gan Ning and Zhang Liao. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- The requirements don't have to be done in order. It can be a pain to beat the targeted officers after the bridge breaks because they may hassle the demolition engineer that you need to protect. Just leave at least one enemy officer in the middle to be trapped when the bridge falls. To be certain, finish up within 7 minutes of the start of battle. ________________________________________ Head north, clearing out officers as you encounter them. A giant enemy pileup will appear in the middle of the map. Around this time, Zhuge Liang sends out an engineer from the main camp to blow up the bridge. Needless to say, you want to play keep-away until the engineers do their thing. Hao Zhao and Zhu Zhi will go after the engineers, so take them out. The rest of the enemy generals will probably get hung up fighting your allies in the center of the map. If they bother the engineers, distract them. Get close enough, and the officers will follow you around. It's okay to take out some of the generals in the center, but let at least one remain. Getting rid of the whole bunch will cause Zhuge Liang to abandon his bridge-busting plan. If all goes well, the bridge will explode. Defeat Gan Ning and Zhang Liao if you didn't already bump them off. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-Uy-HUtOr0 Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the middle of the map. _______________________________________________________________________________ 定風珠 Emerald [#14] Shu 5 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Quickly defeat Sun Wukong while Guan Yu and Wei Yan are still alive. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- To be certain, finish up within 10 minutes of the start of battle. ________________________________________ Clear out the enemy officers near Guan Yu and Wei Yan. After Zhang Liao arrives, defeat all three sorcerers. This will cause Sun Wukong clones to appear. Beat any of the clones to get the real Sun Wukong to show up. Defeat Sun Wukong. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THVAzQXP__o Item Location ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the middle of the enemy main camp. _______________________________________________________________________________ 白玉環 Pearl [#15] Wei 5 _______________________________________________________________________________ Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Quickly help Pang Tong carry out his fire plan. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- There are a ton of enemy officers in the middle of the map. Ignore them. Otherwise your allies will advance too quickly. It seems that Pang Tong has to set his fire attack before anyone opens the gate to the enemy main camp. Also, he will cancel his plan if you manage to wipe out everyone before he gets to the ambush point. To be certain, get Pang Tong to the fire attack point within 10 minutes of the start of battle. ________________________________________ Head north and clear out the baddies there. Pang Tong will eventually travel around to the right, down, and left to the center area. With that in mind, feel free to run ahead, defeat enemies, and close gates along that route. Once Cao Pi and Pang Tong have a conversation, Pang Tong will head off on his merry way. Follow him and take care of any straggling enemies until he reaches his goal. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- This one can be confusing because Masamune Date shows up twice. You need to beat the ambushing officers before defeating Masamune on his second appearance. ________________________________________ Work your way into the center area, defeating officers and closing gates and whatnot. Enemy generals will eventually show up at the north, east, south, and west checkpoints. It's OK for your allies to defeat them, which will probably happen at least once if your morale is high enough. After the map is clear of enemy officers except for the ones inside, it's time to trigger the final reinforcements. Head into the south end of the castle. Go upstairs, then run back out and over to the northwest courtyard. Ina and two generics will show up in the northwest courtyard and charge your main camp. Hunt them all down, then make your way into the north end of the castle. A convenient door opens in the courtyard after Ina and company appear. Masamune Date is upstairs. Defeat him. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- To be certain, get this all done within 7 minutes of the start of battle. Ignore everything but the required enemies and pause when people talk. This battle is full of annoying message spam. Another reason to ignore optional enemies - closing too many checkpoints seems to cause a red checkpoint in the north to spew peons by the boatload later in the battle. These hordes can defeat your commander even with deep blue morale. It's a good idea to seal all the northwest checkpoints before advancing, but there may not be time for that if you're getting this treasure on 1 player mode. ________________________________________ Head southeast, taking out officers along the way. Once you get to the gates, an ambush will appear. Defeat the general and all the named peons to open the fortress gate. Inside the fort, wait around impatiently for another ambush and then kill the officer who shows up. Rush to the top of the ramp and punish the general up there for dropping rocks on your head. The next fort has another officer and a sorcerer. Take them both out. Next up is a general and a miscreant ambush. Once again, defeat the officer and named peons to open the next gate in line. Last fort. Hurrah. Beat up the snake officer guy in here. Finally - no more stupid gates to open. Kill the sorcerer inside Da Ji's garrison. You might as well bust up her various cronies, too. From here, you need to ensure that Sakon Shima makes it up to the northeast and that the next waves of enemies are defeated. As Sakon heads off on his journey, various enemies will show up to bother him, including Sun Wukong. Kiyomori Taira will also send more baddies toward your main camp - first cavalry, then ninjas. To stop each assault, get rid of the enemies marked on your map with red dots. Or let your allies take care of them. Basically, run around and kill things wherever you need to. At some point, Kiyomori Taira sets the middle of the map on fire. You won't be able to do anything about it until Nobunaga Oda arrives with his epic yellow army of awesome and gets the sorcerers to show up on your map. Defeat the wizards. It is not a concern with the fast unlocking method originally explained by Hezablak and ff7perfection. Sun Wukong can be triggered early, which makes the treasure far easier to obtain. ________________________________________ Be sure to bring fast transportation and overpowered characters. Ignore Kiyomori Taira and his cronies. Instead, rush up to the northwest corner of the map. Surprise! It's Sun Wukong and a bunch of enemy officers. Wipe them all out. Those officers will respawn along with two more groups of baddies in the northeast and south. Quickly defeat them all. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- To be certain, get everyone to the castle within 20:00 of the start of battle. ________________________________________ Head north, getting rid of everything along the way. If Hideyoshi hasn't already broken through the western fort, take a detour to help. Go into the Stone Sentinel Maze, taking out officers until Sun Wukong appears. Kill him and Hideyoshi is pretty much good to go. Head to the middle of the map where Nobunaga is. Clear out enemies on the central path, including Kotaro Fuma, who has probably shown up by now. Open the south gate of Bai Di Castle by defeating the officers in front of it. Bump off the other door guards to open the rest of the gates. If you want, you can beat up the sorcerers in the castle to stop the twisters outside, but this isn't necessary. Exit east and work your way south to assist Kenshin. If enemy reinforcements haven't shown up in the east, they will soon, so it's good to be over here. Your allies should be close to the castle by now, but they may get hung up on random peon clumps. Help them get a move on as needed. Video Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------ By ff7perfection. (It's OK to have one or the other.) - Teleport the enemy commanders into the west enemy supply base within 10 minutes of the start of battle by defeating Mitsuhide Akechi and escorting sorcerers into the base. - After the sorcerers cast their spell, defeat Ranmaru Mori, Nagayoshi Mori (森可成), Koroku Hachisuka (蜂須賀小六), and Morimasa Sakuma (佐久間盛政). Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- To capture the supply base, you'll need to escort some sorcerers over to it and protect them until they summon your commanders. This can be a pain because the sorcerers stop to fight anything and everything. Not only that, they don't always travel the same route each time. They sometimes get separated from each other as well. Luckily, you're good to go as long as one makes it over to the base in time. Bring a good crowd clearer and a fast means of travel. I suggest Sun Wukong because you won't need to keep getting on and off a horse, and he can jump charge over the annoying cliffs in this area. There may be an additional time limit for defeating Ranmaru and his buddies. To be certain, finish all the requirements within 13:00 of the start of battle. ________________________________________ The sorcerers will appear about 2 minutes into battle. Knowing this, you may wish to preemptively clear out as much of the south and west path as you can. Obliterate crowds, seal gates, and rush ahead to trigger enemy ambushes. When the sorcerers show up, give them a hand. You'll have to crowd clear to keep them safe and focused on task (rather than distracted by every blasted red dot nearby). Whenever possible, rush ahead to seal gates and then backtrack for more babysitting. You may want to save halfway through in case the sorcerers decide to wander off somewhere or get killed. At the base, just kill like crazy to keep the sorcerers alive. When the doors open, defeat Mitsuhide Akechi and pals. The sorcerers may stand outside until a nearby generic wanders over to say hi. If this happens, take him out quickly and keep on crowd clearing. If all goes well, the sorcerers will head into the base and work their magic before 10 minutes have passed. After your commanders teleport, Ranmaru will advance. Defeat him, Nagayoshi Mori, and Koroku Hachisuka. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- This is another fun one because the time limit is tight and officers love to chat it up and cause message spam. Try pausing during conversations to save time. Other than that, there's no shame in bringing an overpowered team and playing on an easier difficulty setting. As usual, Sun Wukong is recommended for his travel speed. ________________________________________ Taigong Wang will warp to the gate and begin his preparations as soon as you defeat all of the officers in the center, including Masamune Date and some friends who show up later on. Thus, you want to wipe out everyone on the map and be nearby when Masamune makes his grand entrance. It is possible to get the treasure without defeating Masamune, but it's probably easier to just take him out. With that in mind, head west and bump off the lowermost snake officer guy before he goes too far south. Run up and defeat Sima Yi. Work your way east, killing enemy generals as you see them. When the sorcerers show up, get rid of them as it is convenient to do so. You must defeat them yourself, no ally kill stealing allowed, but it should be okay to leave them alone for a few moments if a nearby officer needs some punishment. If Masamune Date hasn't already brought his entourage, hang out at the northeast checkpoint and wait for him. Get rid of Date and his pals to set Taigong Wang's plan in motion. If all went according to plan, Taigong Wang will be opening the gate before 6 minutes have passed. Rush Da Ji and Himiko. Rejoice. Do not let any allies be defeated. Recommended Method ----------------------------------------------------------- Once again, you need to haul and kick some serious ass. Take Sun Wukong and, if needed, some overpowered characters who can defeat officers in one quick combo. I recommend normal or hard mode so that your allies can take some damage without being punching bags. Allies tend to die on chaos, even if you kill at warp speed. Speaking of which, don't get too crazy with the killing. You don't want to accrue too much praise message spam and delay any of the events. There are time limits for leading the 3-way attack and defeating Himiko. To be certain, trigger the 3-way attack within 10 minutes of the start of battle, and take out Himiko within 1:40 after she appears. ________________________________________ Kill the generic officer on your way to the south castle. Bump off the two officers outside the castle. Defeat a defense captain to open the door. Inside the castle, beat Masamune Date and his pal. Head up north using the second path from the left of the map. This path contains the empty bases that your allies will advance into. Clear out all generals and close all checkpoints along the way. Get rid of the officers in the northwest fort. Head east and intercept Keiji Maeda before he gets too close to your allies. Take out the nearby generic as well. Your next priority is ensuring that the 3-way attack succeeds. Crowd clear and close any open checkpoints along the corridor where your allies are advancing. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. As mentioned earlier, you don't want to mess things up with battle log spam. You also need to avoid the right side of the map. If you defeat any officers there, the three-way attack will fail. You will see messages as each general reaches their destination base. If all goes well, Cao Cao will say something and the three attacking officers will flash on the map. Orochi X's officers will then flash with an unhappy message. Time to move. Run, Forrest, Run and get rid of all the officers that just flashed on your map. Save the southeastern enemies for last. Himiko will show up on the road leading south out of Orochi X's main camp, and you want to be nearby when she makes her grand entrance. After you kill his dudes, Orochi X will get peeved and show you the most fugly face ever. An entire convention of minions will appear, including Himiko. You know what to do. Defeat Da Ji and Keiji within 3 minutes after the bridges to the north fleet are set up. _______________________________________ Run around and defeat as many enemy officers as you can. Yes, the health- sapping effect of fire is annoying. At least it won't actually kill you by itself. At about 2:30 into battle, bridges will form between the boats and the island where the altar is. Zip over and capture the altar by taking out all the nearby officers. Get back on the burning boats (just what you wanted to hear, I know) and kill more enemies. The quality of weapon (base level and elements that it contains) depends on the difficulty setting and star rating of the battle. For better weapons, play tougher battles on higher difficulty. The Karma ability (運上昇) helps. To get 4th weapons, play 3-star or above hard mode battles or any chaos mode battle. My favorite 4th weapon farm is SW 1, chaos mode. It's short and easy and has four officers with weapon boxes - Goemon Ishikawa and generics in the upper right, center, and lower left of the map. Wei 1 on chaos is another favorite. =============================================================================== 6) Fusing Weapons [FUSION_HOWTO] =============================================================================== To improve a weapon via fusion, you need a spare weapon for the same character with elements, extra slots, upgrade skills, or attack power to add. This spare weapon will be consumed in the process. You also require enough growth points to pay for the fusion. To get growth points quickly, equip the Acclaim ability (経験値増) and play through any battle with a ton of officers and peons. Wu 4 is good for this, or try Wei 5 for variety. 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (武器融合), select Weapon Fusion (the middle option). 2. Select the weapon to improve. 3. Select the spare weapon with elements or upgrade skills that you wish to transfer. 4. Pick your improvements. Whenever you select an element, you will need to specify a slot for it. This can be an empty space or an existing element that you want to replace. If you're adding more slots, they will only be available after the fusion is complete. Therefore, you can only place elements in the spaces that the weapon already has. Upgrade skills can be transferred for free (no GP cost). If the spare weapon has any upgrade skills, press Left or Right on the element list menu to get a listing. 5. Confirm the fusion. o=============================================================================o | Elements (1 level) | |=============================================================================| | 炎 Flame | 600 GP | | 破天 Air | 300 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 氷 Ice | 700 GP | | 勇猛 Brave | 500 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 雷 Bolt | 500 GP | | 旋風 Range | 400 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 陽 Flash | 550 GP | | 分身 Multi | 400 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 斬 Slay | 800 GP | | 神速 Agility | 300 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 吸生 Drain | 600 GP | | 極意 Might | 350 GP | |------------------|------------------| |------------------|------------------| | 吸活 Absorb | 700 GP | | 背水 Rage | 400 GP | |=============================================================================| | Other Improvements | |=============================================================================| | Base Attack +1 | 300 GP | | 1 Extra Slot | 150 GP | o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o =============================================================================== 7) Creating and Attaching Upgrade Skills [UPGRADE_HOWTO] =============================================================================== Creating Upgrade Skills ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to create an upgrade skill, you must have unlocked it by finding certain treasures. You also need a spare weapon with a specific combination of elements. The element requirements are a minimum, not an exact match. If the weapon has additional elements or element levels, it can still be used. 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (武器融合), select Upgrade Skills (the top option). 2. Select the upgrade skill you wish to create. You can only select an upgrade skill if you have the required treasures and at least one weapon with the correct element combination. Upgrade skills that you can create are highlighted. The rest are grayed out. 3. Select the spare weapon to use up. As with the upgrade skills themselves, suitable weapons will be highlighted. 4. Confirm your choice. The spare weapon will disappear and you will have another upgrade skill in stock. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attaching Upgrade Skills ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (武器融合), select Weapon Upgrade (the bottom option). 2. Select the weapon you wish to attach an upgrade skill to. 3. Select the upgrade skill. If this weapon already has its slots filled, pick an upgrade skill to replace with the new one. 4. Confirm your choice. The upgrade skill will be attached to the weapon, and its stock will decrease by 1. =============================================================================== 8) Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ] =============================================================================== Q. What all do I need to do to use [some specific upgrade skill]? 1. Refer to the Upgrade Skills section to look up the required treasures and weapon elements. 2. If you don't have all of the necessary treasures, unlock them. Refer to the Treasures section for unlocking information. 3. Fuse a spare weapon with the elements needed. This can be any character's weapon. 4. Follow the instructions in Creating and Attaching Upgrade Skills to make an upgrade skill and fuse it to whichever weapon you wish. ________________________________________ Q. What does the level of an upgrade skill mean? Basically, levels are an organization scheme. Upgrade skills are arranged within menus according to level, with each level on its own page. The level also gives some idea of how much effort it takes to unlock and create an upgrade skill. Lower level upgrade skills are unlocked with treasures obtained early on, and they don't need much in the way of weapon elements. Higher level upgrade skills require later and/or more difficult treasures and several elements on the spare weapon. And that's it. There are no level-related restrictions on which upgrade skills you can attach to a weapon. ________________________________________ Q. How do I know what treasures I have? Within the Customize Weapon menu (武器融合), select Upgrade Skills (the top option). Press circle (PS2) or B (XBox 360) for a full list of treasures. The ones you already obtained will be highlighted. ________________________________________ Q. What on earth are ingredients, enchantments, and crafting items? Those are terms that were used for treasures and upgrade skills before the official English terminology was available. Ingredients and crafting items are treasures. Enchantments are upgrade skills. =============================================================================== 9) Revision History [REVISIONS] =============================================================================== v1.6 6/11/2009 - Added more video walkthrough links and an easier way to unlock the Dragon's Spleen. v1.5 1/14/2009 - Added more video walkthrough links.
