Later SHILKA'S, AMIA'S, HUEY'S, and EUSIS'S ADVENTURES were included in Game no Kandzume VOL. 1 [ゲームのかんづめ VOL. 1] and NEI'S, RUDGER'S, KINDS'S, and ANNE'S ADVENTURES were included in Game no Kandzume VOL. 2 [ゲームのかんづめ VOL. 2] both released on March 18th, 1994 for the Mega CD. All eight games were included in SEGA AGES 2500 Series Vol. 32: Phantasy Star Complete Collection [SEGA AGES 2500 シリーズ Vol.32 ファンタシースターコンプリートコレクション] for the PlayStation 2. The text adventure concept is also used in Phantasy Star Adventure [ファンタシースター アドベンチャー], released on March 13th, 1992 for the Game Gear. This specific walkthrough covers ANNE'S ADVENTURE [アンヌの冒険]. Anne Saga [アンヌ・サガ] is known as Amy Sage in the English version of Phantasy Star II. Anne is the only female doctor to finish internship. She is on her way to an elementary school in a neighboring town to save some people wounded by biomonsters, but... when she uses the antidote, a lot of feminine events take place. The eight compilations that made up the Phantasy Star II: Text Adventures was never released outside of Japan. And as of January 2010, these Adventures have been unofficially translated by M.I.J.E.T. and this walkthrough will follow their translation. I have also included the Japanese text, so please encode this document in "Japanese (Shift-JIS)" to be able to view it. There are unmarked spoilers in this document. I written this in a way to tell the player how to beat this game and I may skip areas that serve no purpose in getting toward the end. They will be shown to the upper-left corner of the screen. To attack an enemy, you will have to select "Use" [使う], then choose a weapon currently in your inventory, and finally select the biomonster to use it on. Unfortunately Anne cannot use her bare fists in battle, she must find or purchase weapons in order to battle. Each weapon have their own unique Attack Power [AP] value, the weakest will have an AP of 2, while the strongest will have an AP of 5. Whenever Anne or the biomonster attack, a six-sided dice will roll onto the screen. Anne's damage is displayed as the blue dice rolled from the right side, and the biomonster's damage is displayed as the red dice rolled from the left side. The amount of dice will increase depending on how strong the weapon or biomonster is. The amount of damage dealt is calculated by multiplying the AP by the amount rolled. However if the dice amount rolled is 5 or less, the attack will miss and no damage will be dealt. For example: If Anne attacks with a Knife with 2 AP and the dice roll is 10, she will deal 2X10=20 points of damage to the biomonster. Once Anne's HP reaches 0 when she is battling the Biting Ant, it is Game Over. But when she meets Heinz, she will return back to his cabin whenever she dies. Anne cannot restore her HP during battle. If she needs healing, she will have to talk to Heinz in his cabin for treatment. O============================================================================O | [04] HOW TO PLAY | O============================================================================O The title screen starts up with a brown background and an image of the Kite Devil in the center, the text around it reads "PHANTASY STAR II: ANNE'S ADVENTURE". Press the START button to begin the game. It shows you a green screen which tells you how to play this game. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOW TO PLAY [あそびかた] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o 1. Controls A / C: Select B: Cancel A+B+C: Reset Game (this screen only) 2. The Display HP : Hit Points AP : Attack Points MST: Meseta (money) 3. The "Use" Command There are two kinds of objects: those that can be taken, and those that can't. You can only use items that are in your possession. 4. Combat When engaged in battle, "use" your weapon on your opponent. There may also be situations where you can win without using weapons. When you press the START button again, you will be shown the prologue. O============================================================================O | [05] PROLOGUE | O============================================================================O Time : 1284 A.W., Spring Place : River Town, on the planet Motavia Character: Anne Anne was a young doctor, having just finished her internship. She was employed at a small hospital in River Town, on the planet Motavia. One day, Anne was going about her tasks as usual when a grim-faced hospital director told her the following: "We received word that the elementary school in Wood Town was attacked by biomonsters. It seems that many people were injured... I want you to take some medicine there as quickly as you can." Thus starts ANNE'S ADVENTURE. O============================================================================O | [06] WALKTHROUGH | O============================================================================O Anne must quickly aid the injured over at Wood Town... o------------------------------------------------------------------o | DIRECTOR'S OFFICE [病院院長室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Anne starts off in the director's office with 50 HP and 20 Meseta. You can "Look" [見る] at the "Director" [院長], but there is nothing of importance here. Select "Move" [いどうする], press the right directional key to "East" and press the A button to move east. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL HALLWAY [病院ホール] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o You need to the enter the pharmacy to the east. When you select "Look" [見る] and "Door" [ドア], you will notice that the door is locked. The exit is to the north, the west leads back to the director's office, and the south leads to a corridor. We need to find the key first before we can leave the hospital. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL CORRIDOR [病院ろうか] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a sickroom to the west and the supply room is to the east. First we'll go to the sickroom. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SICKROOM [病室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Anne greets the patients here. Select "Look" [見る] and "Patients" [患者] to notice there are five patients, one of which is a ten year old boy. Now select "Look" [見る] and "Boy" [少年] to see him working on a model of a ship, beside him is a bottle of glue. Select "Take" [取る] and "Glue" [接着剤] to put the Glue in your inventory. Who knows when this might come in handy! Try using the Glue on the Patients or Boy for a funny message. You can "Look" [見る] at the "Boy" [少年] again and he'll tell Anne about a rock with a beautiful crystal inside. Since this crystal allows one's body to become stronger, he wants to go looking for it when he gets older. If you have played Phantasy Star Adventure, this scenario may seem awfully familiar. Of course, the events of Phantasy Star Adventure took place 16 years before Phantasy Star II, so we can only imagine people are just relating the stories about the Agent's journey. Anyway, leave this place by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL CORRIDOR [病院ろうか] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SUPPLY ROOM [道具室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The key to the pharmacy is found here. Select "Take" [取る] and "Key" [カギ], now we can finally unlock that door! There is nothing in the Basement if you want to go downstairs, so select "Move" [いどうする] and "West" to exit. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL CORRIDOR [病院ろうか] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL HALLWAY [病院ホール] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Use" [使う], then "Key" [カギ] and "Door" [ドア] to unlock it. Now we can enter the pharmacy, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | PHARMACY [薬品室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o We find some trimate amongst all of the medicines on the shelves. Select "Take" [取る] and "Trimate" [トリメイト] to pick it up. Now we are finished with everything to do in the Hospital, let's leave this place. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL HALLWAY [病院ホール] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | HOSPITAL EXTERIOR [病院の前] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | STREET CORNER [町角] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a three-lined road to the north and a weapon shop to the east. There is also a Plank on the ground, select "Take" [取る] and "Plank" [板]. We currently do not have enough for the cheapest weapon, priced at 100 Meseta, at the weapon shop. So let's go the other way by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVER TOWN [リヴァの町] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The streets continue to the north and south, there is a workshop to the east, and a diminutive house to the west. Also a young man is standing here. You can select "Look" [見る] and "Man" [男] to talk to him, he'll comment about the owner of the small business to the east. Let's visit the house first, select "Move" [いどうする] and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | OUTSIDE A SMALL HOUSE [小さな家の前] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o After Anne knocks on the door, a woman comes out and greets her. Select "Look" [見る] and "Woman" [婦人], and the woman tells you that her daughter is ill. She wants you to examine her, she will let Anne inside. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | INSIDE HOUSE [家の中] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The woman's daughter is sleeping on the bed. Select "Look" [見る] and "Girl" [少女] to see that she can be treated with the trimate. Select "Use" [使う], then "Trimate" [トリメイト] and "Girl" [少女] to cure her. The mother will thank Anne by giving her 70 Meseta. She will take Anne back to Outside a Small House, now go back by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVER TOWN [リヴァの町] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The owner of the workshop to the east won't give us the time of day. So let's go north by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN [町はずれ] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a white-colored house to the west and a sign standing by the side of the road. You can "Look" [見る] at the "Sign" [標識] if you like to know the location of Wood Town which is to the north. Also if you "Look" [見る] at the "House" [白い家] and it will tell you that it is Anne's residence. For now let's go toward Anne's house, select "Move" [いどうする] and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | ANNE'S HOUSE [アンヌの家] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a nail puller here, take it by selecting "Take" [取る] and "Nail Puller" [くぎぬき]. We're done here, so let's leave by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN [町はずれ] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is an large black rock to the east, but we cannot do anything now to it. So select "Move" [いどうする] and "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SOUTH SIDE OF BRIDGE [橋の南側] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o A river flows from east to west, unfortunately you cannot cross the bridge to Wood Town because it is out. You can "Look" [見る] at the "Notice" [立てふだ] to read about an one-eyed man with the warning, "WANTED: BEWARE OF THIS SCOUNDREL!" Hopefully we won't have to face him... To the east is a biomonster, but we have no weapon on us to attack with. So for now, select "Move" [いどうする] and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVERBANK [川辺] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a Motavian here. In the English version of Phantasy Star II, the planet Motavia is known as Mota. Select "Look" [見る] and "Motavian" [モタビアン] to speak with him. He offers to trade his raft for your nail puller. We need that raft to cross this river, so accept his offer by selecting "Use" [使う], then "Nail Puller" [くぎぬき] and "Motavian" [モタビアン]. You now have a rubber raft, but first check it out by selecting "Look" [見る] and "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート]. It has a hole in it, that dirty rat cheated us! But we have something to patch this up! Select "Use" [使う], then "Glue" [接着剤] and "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート]. There, good as new! Now we can finally get going to Wood Town! Select "Move" [いどうする] and "West" to start crossing the river. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVERBED [川原] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Use" [使う], then "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート] and "River" [川]. But wait, we cannot control this raft without an oar. How silly of us! Hmm, maybe we can make an oar out of this plank we have. Let's go back to River Town, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "East", "East", "South", "South", and "East" to the Workshop. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | WORKSHOP [職人の店] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The owner is pretty grouchy. Select "Use" [使う], then "Plank" [板] and "Owner" [主人]. He takes the plank from Anne and charges 50 Meseta as payment, now we're left with 40 Meseta. He finishes his work and hands Anne an oar [オール]. Now we'll have no problem crossing that river! Go back to the Riverbed by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "North", "North", "West", and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVERBED [川原] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Use" [使う], then "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート] and "River" [川]. As long as you have patched up the hole in the rubber raft and have an oar on you, you will start crossing the river. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVER [川の上] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a old building visible to the north, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North" toward it. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | OUTSIDE AN ABANDONED HOUSE [廃屋の前] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The northern house is deserted and a sack can be seen on the ground. Select "Take" [取る] and "Sack" [袋]. Anne will pick up the sack and there is 100 Meseta inside, now we have 140 Meseta. This should be enough for us to buy ourselves that cheap weapon at the weapon shop! If you select "Look" [見る] and "Gray House" [廃屋], you will notice that the house is firmly boarded up. We will need our nail puller back if we want to enter inside. But in doing so, we will have to trade the rubber raft, and that will do us no good. So remember this place for later. Let's go to the weapon shop in River Town, select "Use" [使う], then "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート] and "River" [川]. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVER [川の上] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South", "East", "East", "South", "South", "South", and "East" to enter the weapon shop. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | WEAPON SHOP [武器屋] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Look" [見る] and "Proprietress" [女主人]. She takes your 100 Meseta and hands over a knife. Now we can fight that biomonster near the South Side of Bridge! Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "North", "North", "North", and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVERBANK [川辺] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o A Biting Ant [バイテングアント] biomonster stands in your way. You will have to defeat it in order to cross the river. The Biting Ant only has 40 HP, 1 AP, and deals damage with 2 dice. Start your first battle by selecting "Use" [使う], then "Knife" [ナイフ] and "Biting Ant" [アント]. Don't worry if you suffer damage during this battle because we'll get free healing soon. After the Biting Ant is defeated, it will run away with your knife still lodged in it. No use in getting it back, but now we can cross the river in peace! Select "Use" [使う], then "Rubber Raft" [ゴムボート] and "River" [川]. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVER [川の上] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and "North" to go toward Wood Town. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | RIVERBED [川原] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The rubber raft will start to deflate; the hole has been reopened. There is a cabin to the east and a road to the west. Let's go toward the cabin, select "Move" [いどうする] and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | CABIN [小屋] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a young man wearing a white smock here. He introduces himself as Heinz and he's researching healing techniques, he can also heal your wounds. Let's recover our lost HP from the Biting Ant battle by selecting "Look" [見る] and "Heinz" [ハインツ]. He will use his Naresuta Technique to treat her wounds and now she's back to 50 HP! This Naresuta Technique is known as the Nares Tech in the English version of Phantasy Star II. Heinz will be your only source of healing throughout this game. Let's examine his cabin, select "Look" [見る] and "Desk" [机] to find a dimate [ディメイト]. This dimate will serve no purpose for us, so just leave it be. Exit the cabin and continue forth by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and go "West" and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | NORTH SIDE OF BRIDGE [橋の北側] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | TURNING POINT [別れ道] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is a guard here, speak to him by selecting "Look" [見る] and "Guard" [警備員]. He warns you about the thick forest to the west and tells you to not enter it. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | BEND IN THE ROAD [曲がり角] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o To the north is Wood Town. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | WOOD TOWN [曲がり角] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The whole town has been devastated by the biomonsters. There is a man here slumped beside the remains of his ruined home. Select "Look" [見る] and "Man" [男] to talk to him, he tells you that Poison Fang biomonsters cannot stand the scent of red flowers. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EXTERIOR [学校の前] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | EDGE OF TOWN [町のはずれ] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There are flowers in bloom here, select "Take" [取る] and "Red Flower" [赤い花] to pick it up. While we could go inside the elementary school, it is too dark for us to see inside. So in the meantime, let's go back to Wood Town, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South" and "South". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | WOOD TOWN [曲がり角] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West". There is that Poison Fang [ポイズンファング] biomonster the man was talking about earlier. We do not have a weapon on us, so we'll have to drive it away. Select "Use" [使う], then "Red Flower" [赤い花] and "Poison Fang" [ファング] to repel it. It'll come back next time, but we can always use this red flower again to scare it. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "North". There is an elderly man lying on the ground, select "Look" [見る] and "Elderly Man" [老人] to notice that he has been poisoned. You would need an antidote in order to treat him. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SECONDHAND SHOP [道具屋] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o There is no one here and the store has been destroyed. However, there is a laser knife on the floor for us to pick up. Select "Look" [見る] and "Laser Knife" [レーザーナイフ], now we have a weapon again and it's time for us to kill that Poison Fang. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West" and "South". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | WOOD TOWN [曲がり角] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The Poison Fang is back, you will have to defeat it in order to progress. The Poison Fang has 50 HP, 2 AP, and deals damage with 2 dice. Select "Use" [使う], then "Laser Knife" [レーザーナイフ] and "Poison Fang" [ファング]. If you have suffer too much damage here, you can select "Use" [使う], then "Red Flower" [赤い花] and "Poison Fang" [ファング]. Then retreat to Heinz's cabin and fight it again. Also at any time that Anne dies in battle, she will automatically be sent back to the cabin. Select "Look" [見る] and "Heinz" [ハインツ] for him to revive Anne. This was the man from the wanted poster! After sacrificing 10 of her HP, the outlaw is touched by Anne's actions. He gives her a small bottle conveniently labeled alshline. Remember that this can be used to turn stone? There is a large black rock in the open field, let's try it out now. But before we go, select "Look" [見る] and "Outlaw" [ならず者], he will tell you that the Kite Devil is heading straight toward the hospital. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "West". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | DIRECTOR'S OFFICE [病院院長室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o The hospital director collapsed on the floor, treat him by selecting "Use" [使う], then "Pendant" [ペンダント] and "Director" [院長]. He tells Anne, "We moved the patients into the basement, but the monster is heading that way. If we don't do something, their lives will be in jeopardy!" We must save them and fast! So head toward the supply room by selecting "Move" [いどうする] and "East", "South", and "East". o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SUPPLY ROOM [道具室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o We meet the monster, the Kite Devil, again. We must prevent it from reaching the patients. Even though Anne is now at a paltry 20 HP, our mission here is to weaken the Kite Devil. At its full power, the Kite Devil has 3 AP and deals damage with 5(!) dice. We cannot kill it because it is far too strong for Anne to face alone, select "Use" [使う], then "Crystal" [結晶] and "Kite Devil" [カイトデビル]. A barrier will start to form, this cuts its damage down by 3 dice and now it'll only attack using 2 dice. Then the Kite Devil will attack, however it will eventually kill Anne in less than two rounds. Her strength gives out and Anne'll awaken in Heinz's cabin. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | CABIN [小屋] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Select "Look" [見る] and "Heinz" [ハインツ] for him to revive Anne. He will tell her, "So you're finally awake. That was a rash thing you did, young lady, taking on that monster by yourself. We're going to fight together now." Heinz joined your party! Now let's go back to the supply room, select "Move" [いどうする] and "West", "West", "South", "South", "South", "South", "South", "West", "South", "South", and "East" for the final battle. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | SUPPLY ROOM [道具室] | o------------------------------------------------------------------o Thankfully the Kite Devil haven't managed to penetrate the basement yet, and Heinz is looking quite dapper and ready for battle. He takes the ring from Anne's hand, "I'll confront the Kite Devil, but if my life is in danger I need you to heal me. Understand? Treat my wounds if I'm about to die, Anne. I'm counting on you." Heinz has 50 HP just like Anne. During battle, you can select "Look" [見る] and "Anne" [アンヌ] for her to use the pendant which will completely heal Heinz. The best part is that it does not affect their HP [Even if you use it up five times, if you were thinking about Anne's HP offscreen.] and it also does not waste a turn. So make sure to abuse this every time! The Kite Devil has 100 HP, 3 AP, and still deals damage with 2 dice thanks to the crystal Anne used earlier. If you somehow managed to get killed here, you will automatically get carried back to Heinz's cabin. Select "Look" [見る] and "Local Area" [あたり] to make Heinz come back to his senses. You will then take control of Anne and make your way back to the supply room.
