My urge to cover more SMS FAQs however has never wavered and that is why I'm back today in the newest SEGA Master System Completion Project which is hosted on the FAQ Contributors - General Board. I decided to start with Back to the Future: Part II for my comeback and I'm following it up with Back to the Future: Part III, a logical choice if you start with Back to the Future: Part II. This FAQ/Walkthrough won't give a step by step walkthrough, but is just meant to learn you how to play the game and solve the puzzles. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- Gameplay [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Master System version of Back to the Future: Part III is based on the Mega Drive version of the same name, but only contains three out of the four levels. The second level of the Mega Drive version was removed in the Master System version, but this game is still worth your time and you can finish it simply in half an hour. The controls aren't very difficult either. You'll only need need the D-Pad, and the A and B buttons. If there is a level you can't beat, you can skip it by: Pausing the game, holding A and pressing Up, Down, Left, Right on the D-Pad. =============================================================================== 2.1- Buckboard Chase [A201] =============================================================================== The first level lets you play as Doc Brown who needs to save the lovely Clara before she falls in the ravine. He needs to race on his horse to catch up to here, but it isn't an easy challenge as you will encounter a lot of enemies and obstacles. Avoiding the obstacles can be done by pressing the B button which makes your horse jump, or by pressing down to duck which is the best way to avoid the rocks that will hop on by. To kill the enemies you need to use your gun, but the first time through I would only concentrate on the enemies that pose a threat and not to any enemies that pass by over your head. The entire sequence will last about three minutes if you do it flawlessly and this is the longest level in the game. Making a mistake will kill you and you have three lives to finish the sequence. Luckily the game has a generous check point system and you don't have to replay the part that killed you. This list gives you a step by step walkthrough to finishing the level. As you can tell, certain sequences are often repeated. You will only need to practice about five different moves to finish the level. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Duck to pick up the blue item. - Shoot the two crows coming from behind. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from behind. - Duck to avoid the boulder. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from the front. - Shoot the cowboy coming from behind and duck to avoid his bullets. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from the front. - Press Up to pick up the item that is flying over your head. - Jump over the big gap. - Jump over the little gap on the beam. - Duck to avoid the green item. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from the front. - Shoot the two crows coming from behind. - Duck to pick up the white item. - Press Up to pick up the item that is flying over your head. - Jump over the big gap. - Shoot the cowboy coming from behind and duck to avoid his bullets. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Jump over the big gap. - Jump over the big gap. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Shoot the two crows coming straight for you from behind. - Duck to avoid an item flying to you. - Jump over the tree log. - Press Up to pick up the item that is flying over your head. - Shoot the cowboy coming from behind and duck to avoid his bullets. - Shoot the crow flying over your head. - Duck to avoid an item flying to you and then shoot the crow that appeared. - Shoot the cowboy coming from behind and duck to avoid his bullets. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from the front. - Shoot the crow coming straight for you from the front. - Jump over the box. - Press Up to pick up the item that is flying over your head. =============================================================================== 2.2- Pie Throwing [A202] =============================================================================== The second level puts you back in control of Marty McFly who has angered the famous Mad Dog gang. They aren't very nice and intend to shoot Marty. Using as many pies as he wants, Marty strikes back and tries to disarm all bandits in an isometric shooting gallery. You have infinite ammo which you can pick up on the table on the bottom right. There are seven enemies in total, but you need to disarm six of them before the seventh one will appear. Each of the six first enemies will pop up for a couple of seconds before hiding again which gives you a short time to hit him before the next enemy appears. The first enemy out of the door on the left, the second enemy is hiding behind the window to the left of that door. The third and fourth enemy are hiding in the saloon and will pop up out of the windows of the lower level. The fifth enemy is hiding behind the saloon board at the top, and the sixth one is at the white table by the pies. You will need to hit each of them three times before they stop shooting at you. Your progress will be measured by the little blue meter at the top left of the screen. At the start this shows six men. Once they have all fallen down, their boss comes out of the saloon. He comes straight to you and will take five hits before dying. =============================================================================== 2.3- The Train [A203] =============================================================================== The train is the last level in the game and forces you to cross an entire train to jump on the DeLorean that is being pushed by the train. Otherwise it can't reach the speed necessary to escape 1885. In a bit of misfortune the train is filled with cowboys who want to kill you, so Marty needs to look out so he isn't killed by the thugs. You also need to be fast because you only have 70 seconds. You also need to look out for the switches or otherwise you can't progress past certain points in the level. Using your hoverboard you'll arrive at the start of the train. You need to climb up the first ladder to reach the roof top where you'll see a cowboy shooting at you. By pressing the B button you can jump over his bullets and using A you can attack him using pies. Duck to avoid the railway sign and jump over to the next wagon. Climb down the ladder and return to the red wagon. Pick up the glistering item by ducking and go back up the ladder. Don't get hit by the railway sign and take down the next robber while ducking to pick up the blue item. Jump over to the next green wagon and take down the enemy. Now climb down the second set of stairs on the wagon. Duck to pick up the glistering item and walk over to the wagon with the lion. Take down the enemy and pick up the blue item to fully restore your health. Go ahead to the next wagon which is a little bit lower than the previous ones and go up the little ladder on the right. Take down the enemy and pick up the item. Jump to the wagon that is loaded with tree logs and kill the enemy on there. Walk to the ladder on the left and pick up the glistering item on the bottom while you are going there. Go up the ladder, take down the enemy and restore your health. You'll need it because there is another enemy at the end of the wagon. Pick up the glistering item and jump over to the red wagon. There is another enemy on this red wagon, but with a bit of luck he is taken down by a passing piece of tumbleweed. You'll end up at another low wagon with a crate in the middle (with an item on it) and a blue clock that you can pick up to get fifteen extra seconds of time. Climb up the next wagon and take down the enemy. Jump over to the coal wagon and crawl onto the locomotive. Avoid the steam on the locomotive and jump into the DeLorean. Congratulations. You beat the game. You'll get to see "You've succeeded" followed by a picture of the DeLorean gearing up to reach the FUTURE! Now you can start all over again.
