By Matthew Stephenson (Ringworm) Version 1.0, 29 September 2004 Next update: In the next week or so. I'll probably add differences between versions and submit it for the other systems the game is available on. Table of Contents: See the 5 character code next to each entry below? It's there to make navigating this FAQ much simpler. Press CTRL+F together, type the 5 character code next to the entry you are looking for, and press enter twice. You'll be at the appropriate section. Awesome. This method works in many programs I have tested it in, such as Notepad and Microsoft Word. I'm sure it's similar in most programs though. 1. (CSWNV) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* As this is the initial release, this section is pointless. I'm just adding it, as I'm trying to keep my FAQs consistent, and so I remember if there's another update. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 2. Legal Info/ Contact details etc. (CSLCE) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* This FAQ is Copyright of Matthew Stephenson (Ringworm), 2004. It can be found on the following websites ONLY: www.gamefaqs.com Want to host this FAQ? Found it on another site not listed above? Let me know: ringwormrulez[at]gmail[dot]com I may let you host it. Ask. The only requirement is you post the ENTIRE FAQ, UNEDITED. No changing any of it, and it has to be all there. Try to keep it updated as well; the most recent version will always be found at GameFAQs. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION BEFORE HOSTING THIS! If not, you are in breach of the law. Obviously, you can not make profit from this guide by selling it or anything similar. Once again this is illegal. You can make a copy for personal usage though if you're that way inclined. I got no problems with that. It's your printer ink and paper you are wasting. Got a question or got some info you feel should be included? Again the best way to contact me is by emailing: ringwormrulez[at]gmail[dot]com I may take a while to respond, just letting you know. Also, make sure what you want to ask is not covered already. Generally, I respond to anybody that needs help. If I feel the FAQ makes it perfectly clear, and you just haven't read it properly though, I may not. IF YOU DO EMAIL ME: Include the game name, or something which makes it obvious what it's about. I will NOT read ANY emails with attachments, or ones with no subject line. I'd like to take some time to thank the people that have helped with this guide. Firstly, I'd like to thank Codemasters for making the game. The webmasters that host this FAQ should get a bit of credit too I guess, as you wouldn't be reading this otherwise. Thanks also to the other FAQers on the FAQ contributors board at GameFAQs, and especially Masamune3 and Joni Philips for running the SMS Completion Project. Without you, I never would have got the urge to write this guide. I'd also like to thank you, the reader, for choosing this guide, and I hope I helped in some way. All names, characters, games and related material are Copyright of Codemasters, 1993. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 3. Introduction (CSINT) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Cosmic is an adventurous guy, who lives on the planet Linoleum. One day, he discovers a planet that has been rumoured to exist for years, the planet Earth. Unfortunately nobody believes him. Your job is to get proof the planet exists and become a national hero! *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 4. Controls (CSCON) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* The main game is one player only. You may also play a pie slap game with 2 players. For details on this, see section 8. Directional pad: Left/right/up/down - move the arrow (map screens). Left/right - move cosmic (action sections) Button 1/Start Button: Press this button, and the options will cycle between Use, Look at, Pick Up, Talk To and Give. It has no effect in the action sections. Button 2: This is the action button. It is used by moving the cursor over an object. Cosmic will run to where the cursor is located (on the ground below it anyway) when you press this button. An example: if an item is found on the ground to Cosmic's right hand side, move the cursor onto the object, press button 1 until the option is PICK UP, then press button 2. Cosmic will run to the object, and it'll be added to your inventory. Also, in the action sections, this will make Cosmic jump. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 5. General Hints and Strategies (CSGHS) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* The following walkthrough is NOT the only way to get through the game. This is the way that I play through the game though. Feel free to explore other options, as some choices are quite amusing. I haven't spent much time detailing the action sequences that are located between various screens. This is mainly because reading them would be tedious, and writing them even more so. If you get really stuck on one of them, contact me for more detailed help. I find most are quite easy, as it is just a matter of watching the paths the enemies take, and being patient enough to not just try and charge through the levels. You can use passwords to save the position you are up to, but each one can only be picked up one time. I have listed all the screens where you can find the password items (A "P" symbol) in section 7. Picking them up or using them the first time you see them may not be the best idea, as you may get stuck later and have to replay a significant portion of the game. You'll quickly learn when you can. Naturally, if you are using an emulator you can use save states, but I'm assuming you are playing the original copy. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 6. Walkthrough (CSWTH) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* This game consists of numerous areas, mostly containing one screen. Between screens, the first time you move between them, you will go through an action sequence. For most of these, I won't give details as to how to get through them, but you should be able to make it through most first try, with a little practice. With the action sequences, you start with five lives. You can increase this by collecting Cosmic Candy. Generally, there are around 7 pieces of candy in each section, but some have more and some less. For every ten pieces collected, you will receive another life. You can't collect pieces multiple times, if you lose a life, any you collected before dying will be added to your total. The walkthrough is mainly a series of options you need to make. It may take a while to get used to choosing these options, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + 6.1. Planet Linoleum (CSLIN) + ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ - OLD LINO TOWN - The game will prompt you to press button 1. Press it three times so that it shows PICK UP. Move the cursor to the object you see on the ground and pick up the TELEPORT KEY by pressing button 2. Got the hang of it? Good. Move the cursor to the right edge of screen, and press button 2. Once you arrive in front of the doorway, you will see a coin on screen. This time, move the cursor to the words PICK UP on screen, and press button 2. Move to the coin and press the button again. You now know the two ways to choose commands. Let's try using an item. Select USE, then LINO TOWN TELEKEY in your inventory (you may need to click on the white arrows next to the inventory to scroll through and find it). The game will ask where you want to use it. Move your cursor to the machine next to you, and press button 2. The screen will say "USE LINO TOWN TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE". Cosmic will move there, and the message "You're already in Old Lino Town!" will appear. What was the point of doing this then? I got you familiar with how you use objects. You'll be doing it quite a bit. Make Cosmic run to the left as far as possible. If you went far enough (it'll take a few presses of the button), you will leave the screen and enter your first action section. This one is quite simple. Avoid the green monsters carefully (they walk, stop, then turn around by jumping. Do NOT stand just above them when they stop.) and jump the gaps (again, make sure you won't land on a monster). Collect all the candy you see, and you should get an extra life (there are 10 pieces in this section). Continue left and you will be in the next area. - CAPE CARNIVAL - From now on, commands you need to choose are just going to be in list form. Written descriptions would be pointless. USE MONEY IN LUK.E.DAY MACHINE (You're Winner!) USE ATTENDANT (Press button 2 to skip through the text faster) Leave the screen via the right hand side. Back to an action sequence? Nope. You'll now get your first look at the area map. How pretty. Anyway, press button 2 when you see the Cosmic figure stop moving. - OLD LINO TOWN - USE DOOR USE MONEY IN PHOTO BOOTH USE MONEY IN VENDING MACHINE USE ENQUIRIES OFFICE (Twice!) USE A READY MADE LETTER IN MAIL BOX USE LOST PROPERTY OFFICE (Not essential. Try looking at the joke book you get though :P) USE DOOR USE EXIT (just to the left of the door, marked by an arrow) - THE BORDER - TALK TO PASPORT OFFICIAL Walk left. - FORMICA CITY - PICK UP TELEPORT KEY USE LINO TOWN TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE - OLD LINO TOWN - USE DOOR USE ENQUIRIES OFFICE LOOK AT MAIL FROM LINOGRAD (Optional, tells you your next destination). Walk left - CAPE CARNIVAL - USE SECRET TUNNEL This section requires you to be flashing still from the teleport machine, otherwise you can't see. - LINOGRAD - Nothing to do here yet, except for walking left off screen. - THE CAVES - PICK UP MATCH STICK Head back to Cape Carnival (right then use the secret tunnel). - CAPE CARNIVAL - USE MONEY IN LUK.E.DAY MACHINE (Probably multiple times, until you win). Why do this? You're going to need 50 Lino Dollars soon, and you only have 38. This machine is the ONLY way to get money, besides the coin you pick up originally. I hit the jackpot at 34 Lino Dollars. Don't worry, as you can't lose all your money. After you win, head back to the border (right then use the exit in Old Lino Town). Once you get to the border, go right. - THE RIVER BANK - PICK UP ICING SUGAR Time to head back to Old Lino Town (left, then use door). Leave Old Lino town by the right hand exit. - THE WILDERNESS - GIVE HELIUM BALLOON TO SCARY MONSTER Continue right. Note - There is a piece of candy in this action section that can NOT be obtained without losing a life. Ignore it. It is the one on a small ledge below a spring-like monster. - NEARLY FREEZING POOL - USE ICING SUGAR IN THE COOL POOL Go right. You will notice this action section is dark (there's another one similar a bit later). Wait. After a few seconds you will see a lightning flash. This helps in this level. Some gaps require you to stand on the plants, which can only be seen when the lightning flashes. It's not all that difficult, and it's quite short. - DODGEY CITY - PICK UP TELEPORT KEY If you try to use the teleport machine, it's locked! You need to walk back (to Old Lino Town - left 3 screens) - OLD LINO TOWN - USE DODGEY CITY TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE - DODGEY CITY - PICK UP WATERPROOF PLUG (It's at Cosmic's Feet) USE LINO TOWN TELLEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE You will now be in Old Lino Town (again). USE EXIT, then head right to the river bank. - THE RIVER BANK - USE A RUBBER PLUG IN BATH TUB You will automatically be taken to the next area - no action sequence. - DODGEY RIVER BANK - PICK UP SURF BOARD Walk right, and you will get another dark action sequence with lightning. Use the same tips as last time. -DODGEY CITY - Walk left to automatically talk to the person standing there. Your next destination is Cape Carnival. The fastest way to get there is just to walk four screens to the left. - CAPE CARNIVAL - USE MONEY IN LUK.E.DAY MACHINE (Probably multiple times, until you win). Yeah, you'll need extra money a bit later. May as well do it now while you are in the area. It took me 5 attempts to win the jackpot whilst writing this FAQ. USE ATTENDANT This will take you to a driving mini game where you need to complete three laps of a track in 99 seconds. It'll probably take you a few attempts to get through, but just go back to the attendant if you don't succeed. Winning will get you a ticket to Detroitica. After winning, you need to get past the barrier in Formica. Go right one screen to Old Lino Town and USE FORMICA TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE - FORMICA CITY - More teleport effects when you get to Formica. This time, there are two Cosmic's! Get the first one to USE BUTTON. This should automatically switch you to controlling the other Cosmic. Get this cosmic to USE (the other) BUTTON on the other side of the barrier. Switch to the first Cosmic by moving the cursor over him and pressing button 2 (on your controller). Make him run as far left as possible. Switch to the other Cosmic and when he gets to the left edge of screen (make sure you don't click on the first Cosmic or you will just switch control) you will go into the next action sequence. Phew. Sounds confusing, but it's easy to figure out. - COSMIC COAST - USE SURF BOARD IN WATER The next action sequence is quite tough. You automatically move from right to left, but you can alter your position on screen. Try to see where the fish jump out of the water and hurry past those spots. - FOREIGN SOIL - PICK UP FUSE WIRE You can't go any further, so where to? You need to get to Old Lino Town next. USE SURF BOARD IN WATER This takes you back to the Cosmic Coast. You can either teleport from Formica to Lino Town, or walk. I walk. Go two screens right from the coast, then use the door to get to Old Lino Town. - OLD LINO TOWN - USE DOOR USE LOST PROPERTY OFFICE USE DOOR Next destination - Linograd. To get there, go left to Cape Carnival, then USE SECRET TUNNEL. - LINOGRAD - USE TARGETTING DEVICE IN MISSILE USE GUNPOWDE IN SEMI PRIMED MISSILE USE FUSE WIRE IN SEMI PRIMED MISSILE USE MATCH IN FUSEWIRE Hmmm, wonder what'll happen to the missile. Luckily for you there's a bomb shelter nearby. Cosmic will automatically go there. Your way is now clear to continue! Go Right. - NO MANS CAUSEWAY - PICK UP TELEPORT KEY Can't go right, so go left. USE SECRET TUNNEL (Back to Cape Carnival), then go right to Old Lino Town. USE LINOGRAD TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE - LINOGRAD - Super Strength! That'll get you across that gap. Walk right to the next screen, and then walk to the gap. You will automatically jump across. Walk right off the edge of screen. - NO MANS CAUSEWAY - PICK UP TELEPORT KEY Walk right. After another action sequence, you will be in Linoville. Use any telekey in the machine except for the Linoville or Linograd ones. I do the following: USE FORMICA TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE USE LINOVILLE TELEKEY IN TELEPORT MACHINE (once you get to Formica City.) - LINOVILLE - USE DOOR USE ASSISTANT USE DOOR Head right. One more stop then you're on to the next planet. As soon as you get to the Bus Depot, the bus will arrive and you will be transported to Detoitica automatically. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + 6.2. Detroitica (CSDET) + +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ By looking at the map of this planet when you first arrive, it's evident it's not as large as Linoleum. True. It's quite fun though. - DETROITICA BUS DEPOT - PICK UP BUS STOP SIGN Go right to the next area. - FACTORY RECEPTION - Nothing you can do here yet (you can use the password I suppose). Walk right to the next area. You do NOT need to complete this action section. It involves machines firing bolts of electricity downwards. The first 3 are easy to avoid - just keep going right. The fourth one involves you to wait a little bit after the car. The fifth involves you waiting just a bit before the car. Just PAST the fifth car, you will see a white object. Pick this up and either continue, or get hit by a beam. I'm assuming you got hit by a beam for the next section. USE COMPUTER KEY IN COMPUTER You now have three attempts to enter a code to deactivate the robots. It is four symbols, with each symbol being either a blue, red or green car. Firstly try all blue cars. You will see a tick next to any you got correct. On your second attempt, keep these symbols you know are correct, and try a red car for the ones you got wrong. If you still haven't got it correct, you know you will get it the third time if you replace the incorrect ones with a green car. An example: First try: Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue. Result: Tick, Cross, Cross, Tick Second try: Blue, Red, Red, Blue. Result: Tick, Cross, Tick, Tick Final try: Blue, Green, Red, Blue. Result: Robots deactivated. Now if you try the action sequence again, nothing can hurt you, as the machines have been turned off. Go right then. - WORKSHOP - Nothing here. Proceed right. This action sequence is different again. A robot will throw wrecked cars at you. Either jump them and make it across, or get hit and go to the scrapyard. I'll assume you got hit. - SCRAPYARD - USE A METAL BAR IN CAR WRECK Walk left. After getting through the action sequence, walk right. - WORKSHOP - USE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN POWER GENERATOR This will turn off the robot to the right. That's good news. Go right after doing this, past the now disabled robot. - STAFF ROOM - USE BUTTON After the speech, you will go right. Get through the action sequence to finish this planet. Point to note - one of the candies is very tough to obtain (on the ground in the middle of a lightning beam.) It is possible to get, but don't waste a heap of lives trying for it. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + 6.3. Space Station (CSSPS) + ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You need fuel to get to Earth and back home, but that requires money. The gas pumps do not take Lino Dollars, but use Space Bucks. Better go find some. USE EXIT - HUB - You have six doors to go through to get the space bucks, and you will need to use them all. The names of the doors found in the hub imply what the action sequence will be like. Most are just affecting how Cosmic jumps, but No. 3 will make it impossible to see anything except the enemies for a few seconds (on and off). The fastest way to do get through this area is as follows: USE NO. 4 NO FLOOR! (action sequence) PICK UP ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE EXIT USE NO2 HARD TO GET THRU (action sequence) USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE PICK UP TRAMPOLINE PICK UP ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE EXIT USE NO.5 ORDINARY REALLY (action sequence) USE TRAMPOLINE PICK UP BRIDGE PICK UP TRAMPOLINE USE EXIT USE NO.6 GRAVITY MIX (action sequence) USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE BRIDGE USE TRAMPOLINE PICK UP BLOWPIPE PICK UP TRAMPOLINE PICK UP BRIDGE PICK UP ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE EXIT USE NO.3 I CAN'T SEE (action sequence) USE BRIDGE USE TRAMPOLINE USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE BLOWPIPE PICK UP ANTI GAVITY SLIDE PICK UP BOX PICK UP TRAMPOLINE PICK UP BRIDGE USE EXIT USE NO.1 WEIGHS A TON (action sequence) USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE TRAMPOLINE USE BRIDGE USE MONEY BOX PICK UP BOX (Next few are optional) USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE TRAMPOLINE PICK UP BRIDGE USE ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE PICK UP TRAMPOLINE PICK UP ANTI GRAVITY SLIDE USE EXIT USE GRAVITY TRAMPOLINE USE GAS PUMP (the one on the left where your car is parked). That's it. Watch the ending and enjoy. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 7. Passwords (CSPAS) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* On your adventures, you will most likely see some "P" symbols. If you choose USE PASSWORD here, you will be able to receive a password for that point of the game. Passwords are a one time deal - pick one up, and you cannot "save" at that spot again. Password Locations: Cape Carnival The Caves No Man's Causeway The Border Dodgey City Factory Reception Staff Room Space Station Passwords for certain points of the game are as follows: To play the bumper cars game (choose USE ATTENDANT on the screen): MRHFJFEAWWRILSW8MS9Y To Start at Detroitica (near the start of the level): MRHFGFE6WWLILRW8MMIM To start at the Space Station: MRHFZFESWWLGLRWFTDOY To see the end credits (USE GAS PUMP (the left one)): MLHFZWFSWWL9RRWESDOX *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 8. 2 Player Pie Slap (CS2PL) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* This is a 2 player game, where your aim is to hit your opponent more times than they hit you. There are 3 levels to choose from - SLAPPER, BOUNCEY SLAP and AIRY SLAP. Each has a slightly different layout. Controls are quite simple. Up and down to move forwards and backwards, left and right to rotate left and right. Button 1 will fire a pie forwards. Button 2 will also move you forwards. Player one is orange and starts in the bottom left. Player two is green and starts in the top right. Pickups are available that help you win. Generally as both players try to get pickups, it can be a good time to hit your opponent. There are 5 types: Orange with a squiggly line on it - speeds up your pies Black with lightning bolt - speeds up your car Orange with black horizontal line - makes your pies bounce off walls Orange with two pies on it - enables you to fire two pies at once Black with curvy line - makes your pies curve more (press left and right) Hit your opponent four more times than they hit you to win. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 9. Frequently Asked Questions (CSFAQ) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* None yet. Got a question? Ask me via email, and I'll be glad to help. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 10. Concluding Remarks (CSCRM) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* This game may seem quite easy, and it is really. It's a family game, and can be played by young children. For children aged around 7-11, this game should be a reasonable challenge. Naturally, as I've given away the solutions to all the puzzles in the game, I've made the game much easier. I can complete the game in a bit over an hour, but there's probably a good five hours game play in it if you take your time, and only read the solutions here when you get stuck. I recommend the game as a good one to try, as it's quite fun the first time through. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 11. Version History (CSVEH) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* 1.0 (29/9/04): Initial Release. Complete. Probably the final update. Copyright Matthew Stephenson (Ringworm) 2004.
