It is the first console CD RPG created and the first game where Superviser Ouji Hiroi became noticed. Ouji Hiroi is the man behind the Red Company who has produced some of Japan's best selling character games such as Sakura Wars and Mistumete Knight. Not only does he make games but he also writes scenarios for anime and some manga. Back to the game, there was also a Super CD version given away in 1992 as part of a Super CD-ROM^2 promotion. The game itself remains unchanged but it now has a new illustrated cover. Far East of Eden is often credited with the success of the CD-ROM^2 peripheral as it is a traditional RPG like Dragon Quest and gave the machine its first real franchise. Unfortunately, this series has never been translated to English but hopefully this document will allow more gamers to know the splendor of this series. ================== Translation Notes: ================== First of all, I'd like to say that I'm by no means fluent in Japanese however I do know enough to play through most Japanese games and understand manga & anime unless there are some special science terms or the like. For this game, I use official romanizations whenever possible and translate names that I find appropriate to change. There may be some errors in the translation but for the most part I am confident that it is correct. =================== Story Introduction: =================== The game begins with Ziria training with his master, the Toad Hermit. After they finish and eat a meal, Ziria's master decides the time has come for him to discuss Masakado and the Fire Clan. A long time ago in the land of Jipang, a man named Masakado ravaged the land for his own desires. But when it appeared that everything had been engulfed by darkness, a group of people called the Fire Clan stood up against him. The battle with Masakado lasted 100 days and finally, Masakado's spirit was sealed inside the earth but nearly every member of the Fire Clan had died. Now, a group called Daimonkyou (Demon Cult) is attempting to resurrect Masakado. Ziria sets out to stop this group but he cannot do it alone... =========== Characters: =========== Ziria (pronounced G-rye-ah) =========================== The only Fire Clan member from the Toad Clan, Ziria is the young hero of this story. Tsunade ======= Fire Clan Hero of the Slug Clan, Tsunade may only be a girl but she is quite powerful. Orochimaru ========== Fire Clan Hero of the Serpent Clan, Orochimaru is one of the Shogun's ninjas. Kogama ====== Kogama is a small toad with a psychic ability that allows it and its companions to teleport between Kumogiri Villages. ============= General Tips: ============= - If at any time, a boss seems too tough, you NEED to level up. - You can hold button II down to dash but the encounter rate increases. - You can press select during battle for an auto fight option. - This is an RPG which means that all of the normal RPG "rules" apply. - Once anyone dies in your party, it's back to the last place you saved! - When you level up, you recover all of your HP and Skill points. - Always HEAL! - You receive experience when you get event items or reach an event. ================= Menu Translation: ================= (Your browser will need to be able to read Japanese encoding.) Tsukuba ========== Tsukuba Mountains ================= You begin your journey in the Tsukuba Mountains. Talk with your master and all of the toads outside of the house to gain 80 ryou (the currency used in Jipang which is an actual old Japanese coin). You'll want to hurry to the town south of there to buy equipment because you have none! Tsukuba Village =============== Weapon Shop: 15 Plain Long Sword 30 Leather Clothing 20 Leather Helm Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 18 Straw Sandals 2 Map of Tsukuba Inn: 4 Buy all 3 items in the weapon shop so you can equip a sword, helm and armor. In the village, you will also come across a person called Kaneda that looks like you and claims to be a Hero of the Fire Clan. He also talks in a peculiar way but he joins up with you. You might want to gain a level or two before tackling the cave to the south. Catfish's Cave ============== Once inside, you'll notice a rather large boulder known as a Death Stone is blocking one path. Moving the other way, Kaneda will tell you to go ahead. Finding nothing, head back and you'll see that Kaneda is really a tanuki. Defeat him and he will tell you to use the Large ?? on the huge catfish which will cause an earthquake that destroys the Death Stone. Tsuchiura Town ============== Weapon Shop: 15 Plain Long Sword 30 Leather Clothing 60 Ninja Clothing 20 Leather Helm Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 18 Straw Sandals 2 Map of Tsukuba Inn: 10 Bank This is the first time we've come across a bank. You can only deposit and withdrawal money in 1000 ryou portions and there is a maximum deposit limit of 65,000 ryou. There is a maximum holding limit of 32 items as well. Here's a translation of the menu: (Your browser will need to be able to read Japanese encoding.) 貯金する == Deposit Money 貯金おろす == Withdrawal Money 道具　預ける == Store Item 道具　引き取る == Retrieve Item 術　預ける == Store Scroll 術　引き取る == Retrieve Scroll Talk to Koumon in the castle and he will give you the Blue Sword as well as lower the bridge. Prepare for a hard fight by buying some Toad Oil and head north to Bokuden's House. Bokuden's House =============== This is the abode of the famous swordsman Bokuden. Ziria must defeat him to learn a special critical attack. Bokuden will ask you if you wish to fight him. If you choose yes, the battle begins. Make sure to buy a few Toad Oil before this fight because he can be rather cheap sometimes and attack with his special move several times in a row! After defeating Bokuden, head east to Kumogiri Village. Kumogiri Village ================ Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 2 Map of Tsukuba Inn: 5 You will meet Kogama here who insists on joining you. Kogama is not a normal party member but will sometimes attack in battle and allows you to teleport between Kumogiri Villages. Also, there is a room where you can get free money as long as you are not touched by anyone in the room but it's a waste of time. Kashima Shrine ============== Weapon Shop: 80 Samurai Katana 60 Ninja Clothing 25 Leather Helm 5 Shuriken Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 2 Map of Tsukuba Inn: 10 In this village, you'll find that all of the people talking about how the animal god, White Deer, has been turned to stone by Daimonkyou tanukis and ask you to save him in the northern part of the village. You will only be attacked by Oni Tanukis while you are in the path with Tanuki statues on each side. Talk to the big red stone and you will receive the Wakakusa Scroll (a healing spell that restores 50 HP to any party member) from White Deer. You probably want to save up and purchase at least the Samurai Katana for the upcoming battles. Tanuki Cave =========== Items: Toad Oil 50 ryou In this cave, you will encounter a number of tanukis posing as real people. The first you encounter is Tanuki Bokuden, which is easy to defeat. In fact, the next 3 imposters: Tanuki Ziria, Tanuki Koumon, and Tanuki Toad Hermit are all rather easy. You will want to heal using a Toad Oil before fighting the Large Tanuki though. The Large Tanuki can heal itself and has a magic attack called Margo that hurts so fight carefully and use the Wakukusa technique when necessary. Kumogiri Village 2 ================== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 60 White Crane Feather Inn: 5 The villagers will tell you that their leader, Kumogiri, wants to teach you a new technique. You will find him in the northern part of the inn and learn the steal skill. A word of warning, everytime you attempt to steal and fail, the target enemy will gain attack power. Now, that you have reached another Kumogiri Village, you can use Kogama to teleport in between them. There is a gambling game in this village. Midou Town ========== Note: Bank, Inn and Shops not available until Goumon is defeated! Weapon Shop: 130 New Moon Katana 60 Ninja Clothing 25 Leather Helm 5 Shuriken Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 14 Map of Banmou Inn: 15 Bank After speaking with villagers, you'll notice something strange is going on. How come everyone is praising the Daimonkyou? In the church, the priest will ask if you believe in the Daimonkyou . Answer no and you'll have to fight the Large Tanuki again. Use the same tactics as before and you'll win. After the Large Tanuki's defeat, it will ask for forgiveness and tell you that Goumon, 1 of 13 of Daimonkyou's leaders, imprisoned the townspeople in the castle basement. Before going into the castle, head southwest to free an animal god. White Tanuki ============ Southwest of Midou Town, White Tanuki has been sealed in stone like White Deer. Talk to him and you will gain the Konabi Scroll (a fire attack spell that does around 30 HP of damage). Midou Castle ============ Items: Iron Key 100 ryou Toad Oil In the upper levels, you'll need to get the Iron Key first so you can open the door to the imprisoned villagers. Afterwards, you will descend down into Goumon's chambers. The monsters here are tough and the Yatous can cast Margo on you so be careful! Don't worry about the extra items as you can go get them without fear of being attacked after beating the boss. Goumon will attack you right before the stairway all the way in the north. He has high HP and hard hitting attacks so be prepared to use Toad Oil and the Wakakusa technique a lot! After defeating him, go back to Midou Town if you wish or go up the stairs and you'll be in Banmou. ========= 2. Banmou ========= Kumogiri Village 3 ================== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 14 Map of Banmou Inn: 10 Just like the other Kumogiri Villages, you can get some free money. One of the villagers will tell you that the Slug Hermit is nearby. Slug Hermit =========== In a cave north of Kumogiri Village 3, you will find the Slug Hermit who will tell you about his pupil, Tsunade. He says that he will send word to Tsunade about you and that she is in school at the moment. Now, we journey north towards another village. Taida Village ============= Weapon Shop: 130 New Moon Katana 60 Ninja Clothing 5 Shuriken 80 Tobikunai Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 14 Map of Banmou Inn: 20 Bank Tha Daimonkyou has destroyed the bridge in this village and no one can cut down the holy tree to use it as wood. The priest will tell you that he had a vision from god that told him that Ziria must find another Hero of the Fire Clan, the White Light Axe and then cut down the tree. Since you cannot cross the bridge, head west. Ashikaga School =============== At the school, you'll learn that Tsunade was in a fight and she then skipped school! In the library, you can read up on the Fire Clan, Daimonkyou and Masakado. When you're done, head west to the next village. Kikori Village ============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 18 Straw Sandals 250 White Serpent Stone Inn: 20 The village chief here tells you that Tsunade is being a nuisance and would like you to take her away before she causes more damage. You can find Tsunade at the northern part of the village. After she joins you, talk to the village chief to get the White Light Axe for Tsunade. Head back to Taida Village and use the axe to chop down the holy tree so you can continue your quest. Hawai Village ============= Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: FREE Not much to see here but you can pay some girls to see a dance. You might want to take advantage of the free inn and level up a bit. Note, that you cannot save in this village. Utsunomiya Town =============== Weapon Shop: 620 Mountain Bandit Axe 150 Wood Armor 5 Shuriken 80 Tobikunai Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 18 Straw Sandals 14 Map of Banmou Inn: 25 In the castle, the courageous young Lord will tell you that his father is under the influence of Princess Tamamo, one of the Daimonkyou leaders. He asks if you will help him. If you select yes, he will give you the Lord's Sword and thank you. Hopefully, you have enough money from leveling up to buy the new armor and axe for Tsunade because there are tough battles ahead. Kumogiri Village 4 ================== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 10 It's recommended that you buy at least 2 Antidotes here as the upcoming monsters will poison you and if you have no Antidote, you will die! Also, you might want to stock up on Toad Oil as the next boss can seal your magic. There's another gambling room here as well. The villagers are all talking about how the Great Lord has become infatuated with Princess Tamamo and how she has captured Tobei & imprisoned him in a nearby cave. She also has closed Nakoso Checkpoint and Shirakawa Checkpoint so no one can get through to Rikuu. Abukuma Cave ============ Items: Toad Oil x2 Raikou Scroll Focus on killing the slimes in here first as they can poison you. There are 2 ladders in the first floor. The one all the way to the west leads to the next set of ladders while the other one leads to a Toad Oil. On the next floor, there are 3 sets of ladders. The ladders to the south lead to the Raikou Scroll while the other leads to the captured Toubei. Right before you reach Toubei, Princess Tamamo will attack you! She can cast Eleka which hurts both people in your party and Fuuma which seals your magic! Just keep at it and she will eventually fall but not permenantly. Nakoso Checkpoint ================= Nothing to see here for now as the guards tell you to get lost. Inukami Village =============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 27 Antidote Inn: 25 Another animal god has been turned to stone in this village. Go to the northwest part of the village and free the White Dog to gain the Tsukine Scroll (casts sleep on one enemy). Shirakawa Town =============== Weapon Shop: 210 Circular Moon Katana 620 Mountain Bandit Axe 150 Wood Armor 80 Tobikunai Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 25 Shirakawa Castle ================= Items: Rakka Scroll 200 ryou Toad Oil Like Toubei mentioned before, there are hidden staircases all over the castle. Once you go through the castle the first time you'll come to a dead end. Look at the screen carefully and you will see a staircase on the other side of the wall that does not have a counterpart on the previous floor. Go back down and search the area where the staircase should be and it will appear. REMEMBER, when you search, Ziria searches the area in front of him NOT the area he's standing on! Once you get to a room with a ton of staircases, you will find the Rakka Scroll (cuts an enemy's defense in half) in a box nearby. Just like in Midou Castle, you can get the treasures after the boss fight so don't worry about them now. There is 200 ryou in the room above the room all the way north and down one. There's also a Toad Oil in the room above the room all the way at the southwest corner. To get to the Lord of the castle, you need to get to the room to the right of where he is and then search the northwest block of the room to reveal a hidden staircase. Once you go through the two staircases, you will have to confront Princess Tamamo again. Her first form is just like before but when she transforms into Kyuubi she will cast spells that lower your defense and hit harder. This battle should not be difficult though. Just play intelligently and you'll win with ease. Talk with the Lord on the way down and he will reopen the Shirakawa Checkpoint. Shirakawa Checkpoint ==================== Right before you step through the gates, a Death Stone falls from the sky and blocks the way! Go back to the Lord and tell him what happened. He will reopen the Nakoso Checkpoint. Go through there and you'll soon come upon Kumogiri Village 5. ========= 3. Rikuu ========= Kumogiri Village 5 ================== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 80 Mountain Sandals 60 White Crane Feather 50 Map of Rikuu Inn: 15 There's another gambling room and a room with free money here. The villagers are all talking about how the King of Rikuu has changed for the worse and that there is some trouble with the Oni Clan. Walk on over to the town to the west and see what's going on. Taga Town ========= Weapon Shop: 210 Circular Moon Katana 620 Mountain Bandit Axe 270 Warrior Armor 80 Tobikunai Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 80 Mountain Sandals 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 30 Bank Taga Castle =========== King Akurou will attack when you talk to him so be prepared. He only has hard hitting attacks so heal carefully and you will prevail. Afterwards, King Akurou will tell you that he was forced to change due to Danjou, one of the Daimonkyou, kidnapping his child and will join you. He is not a regular party member though. Kumogiri Village 6 ================== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 27 Antidote 50 Map of Rikuu Inn: 15 There's another gambling room and a room with free money here. One of the villagers will attempt to sell you a Large Hammer for 300,000 ryou. Just keep saying no and he'll eventually give it to you. Another person says that Hoteimaru, that crazy foreigner is looking for you. According to the villagers, Danjou's magic is invincible with his demon statue so do not fight him yet as he is waiting on the bridge right before the village all the way to the west. Instead head west then south to Nekoma Village. Nekoma Village ============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 30 In this village, another animal god has been sealed. Go to the northern part of the village where there are 4 cat statues. Move into the water in the middle and go through to the cave to find the sealed White Cat who will give you the Kinin Scroll (seals an enemy's magic) that is needed to battle Danjou. White Lizard ============ East of Nekoma Village, White Lizard is sealed. Free him and you will gain the Suzukaze Scroll (casts antidote on one party member). Shirakawa Checkpoint ==================== Talk to Hoteimaru and you'll find out that he can create a Thunder Orb that can destroy Danjou's Demon Statue but he needs a small piece of the Death Stone. Use the Large Hammer on the Death Stone and Hoteimaru will create the Thunder Orb. Danjou ====== This is not a difficult fight IF you seal his magic first! One of Danjou's attack spells can make most of your HP disappear in a second so keep sealing his magic if necessary. Hiraizumi Village ================= Weapon Shop: 600 Moon of the 16th Day Katana 1080 War Axe 270 Warrior Armor 280 Iron Helm Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 80 Mountain Sandals Inn: 35 Bank The Daimonkyou Rats have eaten up all of the rice so Danjou is using rice as bait for people to come to his castle. One villager will tell you that he saw someone go past the curtain in the back of the shrine. Search that area in the shrine to find a path that leads to a storage room. You will fight Danjou again here. Just use the same tactics as before. After his defeat, you will find Akurou's son and the Rat Key. Yonezawa Castle =============== Items: Samurai Katana Toad Oil White Serpent Stone Use the Rat Key on the iron door and proceed downwards. Just like boss dungeons before this, you can get the items later on. Once you get to the room full of souls, take the ladder all the way to the east. This path will lead to Danjou. Once you are in a room with a blue hue, you will fight Danjou three times. It is recommended that Ziria be at least at level 16 and you should stock up on White Toad Oil and White Serpent Stone. You MUST have Ziria seal his magic by using the Kinin technique. If Danjou breaks the seal, cast the magic again. If you do not, he will cast Magnald which will almost kill one party member and he will also be able to cast Healer to recover 80 HP. After each battle, make sure to heal. After defeating him a third time, he will transform into Hameln. The tactics are the same for him so do not become lax! After he is defeated, use the Thunder Orb on the statue and leave. Sugayu Hot Spring ================= Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: FREE Note that you cannot save in this town. The townspeople will tell you that the White Serpent is waiting for you. Talk to her and you will learn that Orochimaru, Hero of the Fire Clan, does not believe in the ancient legend. She asks you to find the Serpent Orb which should convince him otherwise. In the inn, you will find the girl that all the men in the town are talking about and you can recover your HP by searching the water. Not sure why you would want to do that instead of just resting for free. A famous swordsman named Musashi also lives here. Challenge him to gain the Musashi Slice. Musashi can inflict a lot of damage so have Ziria use the Wakakusa technique while Tsunade and Kogama attack him. Since the White Serpent is blocking the path north, we travel east. Kumogiri Village 7 ================== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 520 White Pheasant Tail 27 Antidote Inn: 15 There's another room where you can waste time to get free money. You may want to buy a White Pheasant Tail so you can teleport out of the next dungeon and stock up on antidotes as the upcoming cave's monsters can and will poison you. White Pheasant Shrine ===================== Free the White Pheasant and you will earn the Doromushi Scroll (cuts all enemies' speed by half). Jasen Cave ========== Items: Toad Oil White Serpent Orb Once you come to a dead end in the cave, you will notice that there is something in the water. If you search there, you will be attacked by a Dark Centipede. These monsters are all over the caves and you must use them to cross over to otherwise unreachable parts. On your way through, you will come across a box that is unreachable by the Dark Centipede. Go south and you will encounter a Large Centipede. The Large Centipede has a good number of HP so fight carefully and heal when necessary. Once the beast has been defeated, cross over and grab the White Serpent Orb. Go back to the hot springs and talk to the popular girl and you will discover it's really Orochimaru in disguise! He takes the Serpent Orb and laughs when he realizes that the White Serpent thought he would change his mind upon seeing it. He runs off leaving a letter for Ziria with the White Serpent. Reading the letter, you discover that Orochimaru is a ninja for the Shogun who has treated him like a son. Orochimaru asks Ziria for more time as he will use his own methods to destroy the Daimonkyou and convince the Shogun of their evil intentions. With nothing more to see, head north to the land of Mutsu. ========= 4. Mutsu ========= Kumogiri Village 8 ================== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 27 Antidote 80 Map of Mutsu Inn: 20 There's another room where you can waste time to get free money. Tsurukame Shrine (Kame Side) ============================ Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Free the White Turtle and you will receive the Katen Scroll (a powered up version of Konabi that does around 70 HP of damage). You can see the imprisoned White Crane but you cannot reach it yet. Head north to the Osore Mountains after you're finished here. Osore Mountains =============== Inn: FREE Talk with the 3 old fortune tellers and the villagers and you will discover that White Sparrow is sealed away on the other side of the mountains. White Sparrow ============= You will receive the Nigemizu Scroll (allows you to automatically run from most enemies) from the freed White Sparrow. Tosa Harbor =========== Weapon Shop: 600 Moon of the 16th Day Katana 1080 War Axe 600 Battle Armor 280 Iron Helm Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 60 White Crane Feather 80 Map of Mutsu Inn: 40 In the harbor, villagers will tell you that the water has been poisoned which will eventually destroy. You will also hear of a beautiful girl called Kayo that has many admirers and was voted as Miss Tosa Harbor. Daizaki Town ============ Weapon Shop (North): 750 Whirlwind Katana 620 Horned Helm 560 Moon Sleeping Powder 200 Ball of Gun Powder Weapon Shop (South): 600 Moon of the 16th Day Katana 1080 War Axe 600 Battle Armor 80 Tobikunai Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 60 White Crane Feather 80 Map of Mutsu Inn: 40 Bank Talk to the Lord in the castle and he will ask if you will help him get rid of the mummy menace. Answer yes and he will give you a Whirlwind Katana so you do not have ot buy one in the shop! There are actually 2 weapon shops in this town. The north shop has new items that you will want to purchase and equip ASAP. In the inn, a woman will tell you that in ancient times, the people made hairpins to appease the mummies and now it has become a custom. Go back to Tosa Harbor and talk to Kayo. She will lend you her hairpin which will destroy most mummies in one hit! White Crab ========== The White Crab is sealed south of Daizaki Castle. Free it and you will receive a Unkai Scroll (blinds one enemy so it cannot attack accurately). Tsurukame Shrine (Tsuru Side) ============================= Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Free the White Crane and you will receive the Kyomizu Scroll (greatly decreases damage received from walking on poisoned areas). You may want to go back to Daizaki Town to prepare for the upcoming boss fight and to rest & save in the inn. Old Temple in the Moon Mountains ================================= When you enter the area, be sure to cast Kyomizu before you cross the poison areas. Inside the temple, you will find Karmen Karmen. He will ask you to join the Daimonkyou. Once you answer no, he will attack. It is recommended that you give the hairpin to Tsunade while Ziria heals and attacks as necessary. After Karmen Karmen is defeated, search the table area behind you with the blinking light. A new stairway will appear in the statue. Moon Mountains =============== Items: 300 ryou Toad Oil Rakuyou Scroll In the first part of the mountains, the first staircase you come across only leads to a Toad Oil. This part is pretty much straight forward. In the second part, take the staircase that is located in the south and in the next floor move a bit south to get the Rakuyou Scroll (cuts all enemies' defense in half). Move southeast and take the staircase located in the corner. You will eventually come upon a shrine where Karmen Karmen is. Before talking to him, make sure you heal and proceed to battle him like last time. Kumogiri Village 9 ================== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 80 Map of Mutsu Inn: 20 There's another room where you can waste time to get free money and a gambling room. The villagers here are talking about a big stupid ape of the Daimonkyou. Not one villager has a good thing to say. Nothing more to see here so head east. Mogami Ferryway =============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 80 Map of Mutsu Inn: 45 The ferry master's daughter, Sae, has been kidnapped by Mantou and begs you to rescue her. Other villagers will tell you that the White Ape has been sealed in the shrine east of here. White Ape Shrine ================ An ape in front of the shrine tells you that it will give you a good item if you rescue the White Ape so do not forget to talk to it again after you free White Ape who gives you the Ibuki Scroll (recovers 80 HP to one party member). Some of the other apes will tell you that cannot handle Ape Sake which the ape in front of the shrine will give to you and that Mantou has run off to the hot springs to the east with a small girl. Zaou Hot Spring =============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: FREE Note that you CANNOT save here. What's going on in this town? There's another beautiful inn hostess that all the men are drooling over. Talk with her and you'll learn that you need to use the Ape Sake in front of the mirror in the shrine and you will confront Mantou. He will often attempt to use a hard hitting technique that causes around 80 HP of damage so be prepared to have Ziria use the Ibuki technique while Tsunade uses White Toad Oil to heal. Attack when you feel confident about your HP status and victory will come easily. Once defeated, talk with Sae and the villagers. You will learn that the inn hostess has quit! Hrm... Anyway, head back to Mogami to talk with the ferry master who will take you across the water way. ========== 5. Shinano ========== Ferry Port ========== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote All of the inhabitants here are talking about Lord Douman who died 300 years ago is now miraculously alive again. Head west after talking with them. Togakushi Shrine ================ Free the White Slug in the back of the shrine and it will give Tsunade the Power Axe and the Hoshine Scroll (casts sleep on all enemies) to Ziria. Once you leave the shrine, Tsunade will comment on how it's like a dream to meet the god of her people. White Owl ========= The White Owl has a tough time waking up due to a great ecchi dream he's having but will eventually come to and give Ziria the Awagumo Scroll (blinds all enemies which reduces their attack accuracy). Wonder who it is....anyhow, talk to her and you will be asked to destroy a monster plaguing people to the east. Answer yes and you will receive the Serpent Bow & Arrow. Release it and you will receive the Shunkou Scroll (cuts an enemy's attack power in half). Buy new equipment and prepare for a boss fight. In Matsumoto Castle, there are 3 floors with a number of holes in the ground so be cautious while moving around. Talk to Lord Douman and he will transform into Nue. Have Tsunade use the Serpent Bow & Arrow while Ziria heals when necessary. After his defeat, Nue says that you will to fight him again in the Salt Mountains to reclaim the Slug Orb. Suwa Lake Village (North) ========================= Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 4600 Elixir 60 White Crane Feather Inn: 55 In this village, the inhabitants will tell you that you need the Water Mirror to cross over to the southern part of the village. You will also notice a mansion that you cannot enter. Before solving these mysteries, head west to Juubei's house. Juubei's House ============== Like the 2 famous swordsman before him, Juubei will teach Ziria a special attack if you can defeat him and he can be rather cheap. Keep your HP near maximum and just keep attacking to win. Afterwards, head back to Suwa Lake Village and you will find a lady that passes on somethign Orochimaru said. If you look in a mirror and raise your right hand, what hand is raised on the mirror's side? Basically, he means that in the mansion, think of it as a mirror. So, enter the mansion from where the door would be if reversed. Inside the mansion, everything is reversed as well meaning that if you exit a room in the south direction, you are really exiting from the north. Grab the Water Mirror here and head out to the stone on the south part of the village. Use the Water Mirror here and cross over to the south part of the village. All of the villagers are praising Lord Guronushi for standing up against up the Daimonkyou. Head southeast to Koufu Town. Koufu Town ========== Weapon Shop: 3200 Heaven & Earth Axe 1000 Wood Bow 1700 Earth Armor 620 Horned Helm Item Shop: 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote 80 Mountain Sandals 60 White Crane Feather Inn: 55 Bank In Koufu Castle, Lord Guronushi will ask you to defeat the fake Lord Douman while they finish digging a cave to Fuji in the bottom of the castle so head east to the Salt Mountains. Salt Mountains ============== Items: Leather Clothing Toad Oil Elixir Kinjuu Scroll Go to the back of the mountain where the lake is and search the mountain to find the entrance. Tsunade will refuse to enter the Salt Mountains as salt is a slug's only weakness according to her. Once you enter, you will come across the Dark Shadow. He will join you as a regular party member. Look at his equipment and you notice he has none! So, go back to Koufu Town and buy some equipment for Oro...er Dark Shadow. Make sure you have space to get more scrolls because Dark Shadow has 9 scrolls already. After you're prepared, go back and get ready for another boss fight. The first floor is fairly straight forward. Just head to the southwest corner and go up the staircase. There are a number of hidden holes in the next few floors so walk carefully. In the second floor, you want to go north but make sure you walk in the bottom part of the hallway while moving horizontally or you will run into hidden holes. On the 3rd floor, move south in the right part of the hallway to avoid another hidden hole. Use the southeast staircase first to get to a box containing a Kinjuu Scroll (seals all enemies' magic). Go back to the saircase in the middle and go up. You will eventually end up at a dead end but you will finda hidden hole that drops you in front of Douman but there are 2 more hidden holes here. Make sure to ONLY move north if Douman is directly north of you. Talk to him and he will tell Orochimaru to stop hiding. Orochimaru will then say he has been investigating the Daimonkyou and is now ready to become one of the Heroes of the Fire Clan. Douman is actually a pushover. Have Orochimaru use his Hyouryuu spell until it runs out while Ziria attacks and heals when necessary. After your win, make sure to get the Slug Orb and just fall down some holes to get out quickly. Go back to Koufu Castle and talk to Lord Gorunushi who directs you to use the cave under the castle. ======= 6. Fuji ======= Asama Shrine ============ In the shrine, Ozono will ask you to save the White Dragon which is sealed in the Underground City in Mt Fuji by Princess Ito. The maiden next to Ozono will allow you to save and you can heal by searching the water. Mount Fuji ========== Items: Elixir x2 Crimson Bow Tenrai Scroll Jinen Scroll Kageginu Scroll Demon Sword Murasama There are no items to be found on the hike up Mount Fuji but you will find a lot of enemies. This will seem like an endurance dungeon as it is the longest you have encountered yet. Once you reach the top, enter the hole to begin your descent to the Underground City. At the bottom floor, there are a number of small rooms with boxes that are locked. Move in a clockwise direction until you reach a shrine. Inside is the White Dragon who will open all of the locked chests. You can get all the items now or wait until after the fight with Princess Ito so you can avoid enemy encounters. There are a number of useful items though such as new weapons for Orochimaru and Ziria and 3 scrolls for Ziria: Jinen (most powerful fire spell that hits all enemies and causes around 120 HP of damage), Kageginu, (restores normal status to one party member) and Tenrai (most powerful lightning spell that hits all enemies and causes around 90 HP of damage). You will find Princess Ito waiting for you in the southwest corner. Talk to her and she will ask you to join the Daimonkyou. Answer no and she will transform into Tarantue and attack. Have Tsunade attack, Orochimaru use the Hyouryuu spell as much as possible and Ziria use Jinen when possible and heal when necessary. Gotenba Village =============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 980 Beast Sandals 200 Map of Fuji There is no inn in this village but you can search the spring water to heal and a person near the entrance will allow you to save. Talk to one of the villagers in the house and you will recognize him as one of the people you saved in Mount Fuji. He will give you the Kamikaze Sandals for rescuing him and his daughters are going to start a Ziria fan club. Another villager will tell you of a famous swordsman who lives to the south so once you're ready, go south. Memazu Village ============== Weapon Shop: 2500 Wind God's Sword 3200 Heaven & Earth Axe 2300 Crimson Bow 3500 Oni Armor Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 4600 Elixir 980 Beast Sandals Inn: 60 Bank Apparently, the famous swordsman Shuusaku has left for his home in Chiba so head east to Kumogiri Village 12 after resting at the inn and buying supplies. The people to the east like money a bit too much it seems as one lady puts it, they eat and sleep money. Also, the White Falcon is sealed there. Head east now. Mishima Village =============== Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: FREE You cannot save in this town and you can drink the spring water to recover HP. Free the White Falcon and he will give you 3 holy weapons: White Crane Katana, White Crane Bow, and White Crane Axe. Shusen Temple ============= Weapon Shop: 2500 Wind God's Sword 2500 Fire Helm 3500 Oni Armor 560 Moon Sleeping Powder Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote 520 White Pheasant Tail Specialty Shop: 3298 Pudding 5155 Wine 4622 Music Box 6244 Helmet Inn: 65 Bank Another Daimonkyou infested town, but you can max out your money here! There is a new specialty shop here with a bunch of useless expensive items and 2 shrines blocked by Daimonkyou members. You will need 1100 ryou to get through but only go into the left one and prepare for an unusual boss fight. Talk to Gouyokku, one of the Daimonkyou leaders, and he'll ask you if you will sell Tsunade to him for 1000 ryou. Answer no and he'll ask you again except he'll offer 1,000,000 ryou. Answer no again and he will attack. Offensive attacks are useless against him. Ziria must use his steal skill while Orochimaru and Tsunade pretty much do nothing but heal. Here's where you can max out your money. Make sure you have deposited all the money you can in the bank. The first steal off of Gouyokku usually nets you around 45,000 ryou so intentionally lose the fight and you will still have half the money. You can repeat this as many times as you want but your personal holding limit is 65,535 ryou. After he is defeated, search the northwest corner and you will discover stairs leading down. On the first floor, you will come to 5 boxes. The left box contains 2000 ryou and the right box is hiding the staircase to the next floor. On the 2nd floor, the middle box in the top row contains 4000 ryou and the staircase is hidden under the right box in the top row. On the 3rd floor, the middle box contains 5500 ryou and the hidden staircase is under the left box in the bottom row. On the 4th floor, the left box on the bottom row holds 7000 ryou while the right box in that row hides the staircase to the bottom level. Open the only box and you will confront Gouyokku again who will transform into an orc looking creature. The strategy is the same here except Ziria may miss his steal attempts which will increase Gouyokku's attack power greatly. Have Orochimaru cast Ishihebi and then heal when necessary. After you win, head east to Hakone Checkpoint which is now not blocked. Sagami ========== Atami Hot Springs ================= Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 4600 Elixir 27 Antidote 300 Map of Sagami Inn (All): FREE Bank It costs 100 ryou to enter the hot springs and 1000 ryou to leave as two of the Ashimoto brothers are blocking the entrances. One of the villagers tells you that Princess Yasha has kidnapped a weird foreigner and has taken him to her castle in Odawara. Head east and rescue your friend. Odawara Town ============ Weapon Shop: 8500 River Sword 8300 Dark Fire Bow 7600 Dragon Armor 2500 Fire Helm Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote 520 White Pheasant Tail Inn: 70 Bank It costs 10,000 ryou to enter this town. All of the townspeople praise Princess Yasha's beauty and strength but you know what she's really like. Buy supplies and rest before going into the castle. Odawara Castle ============== Items: White Pheasant Tail Battle Axe Take the north right staircase to get to Princess Yasha. Before the staircase that leads to her you will be attacked by a Karakuri Soldier. Its regular attacks hurt more than its special attack so be careful. Go upstairs and Princess Yasha will magically kidnap Tsunade! Then she will teleport away and you will be left to fight with the castle's lord, Mouryou. Weapon attacks tend to miss but keep at it and he'll be dispatched quickly. Hurry south and rescue Tsunade! Kamakura Town ============= Weapon Shop: 8500 River Sword 8300 Dark Fire Bow 7600 Dragon Armor 24800 Demon Axe Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 520 White Pheasant Tail 300 Map of Sagami Inn: 70 Bank The leader of the Ashimoto brothers is waiting at the entrance to the town and will take all money you have on hand so deposit your money if you have space before coming here! Kamakura Castle =============== Item: Mountain Sandals Before you can reach Princess Yasha, she will teleport Tsunade and Orochimaru away! Now, you have to fight her yourself as she transforms into Carmille. It has been awhile since you had to count on only Ziria. Just fight carefully and ALWAYS heal to be victorious. After she is slain, you can head south to Miura Village. Miura Village ============= Weapon Shop: 8500 River Sword 21500 Guren Bow 24800 Demon Axe 15000 Fire Plate Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 75 The villagers will ask you where your friends are and to free the sealed White Wolf who will give you the White Wolf Sword, White Wolf Bow and White Wolf Axe. Near the exit, you will meet Priest Namagusa who joins you on your quest as an NPC. Head east to the next village. Kumogiri Village 13 =================== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 27 Antidote 60 White Crane Feather 300 Map of Sagami Inn: 35 There's another room where you can waste time to get free money. Everyone tells you to hurry east and rescue your companions! Kanagawa Village ================ Weapon Shop: 8500 River Sword 21500 Guren Bow 24800 Demon Axe 15000 Fire Plate Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 4600 Elixir 2600 Hayabusa Sandals Inn: 75 As you're about to reach Kanagawa Village, you will see a ship depart. Enter the village and prepare for an impossible boss fight. In the shrine, you will come across the Invincible King, one of the Daimonkyou leaders. This battle cannot be won so don't worry about it. Once you are knocked out, Invincible King will taunt you and then you will finally wake up on Gokumon Island. ======== 8. Chiba ======== Gokumon Island ============== DO NOT USE any staircases that lead up as you will get mowed down by Karakuri Soldiers. Check your items and you will notice that you do not have any! Move east and use the staircase to go down. On this floor, you will meet the leader of the Kumogiri Villages who will give Ziria the Kumogiri Scroll (drains an enemy's MP). The pool of water next to him will fully heal you and the man to the south will let you save. Further south, you will meet with Tsunade. Go down the pathway behind her and eventually you will meet up with Hoteimaru who tells you that he was forced to create the Karakuri Soldiers but he has found something interesting for you, a Clay Robo made by the god of Jipang. Its only weakness is water but you can use it in battle for now. It takes one turn to come up before attacking so yo uare forewarned. Now, find Priest Namagusa who will give you a key that he found. Go back up to the floor where you can save and find the sparkling gold on the side of the wall. Fill up every party member's inventory screen with the gold which can be sold for 10,000 ryou a piece in a shop. Return to the floor you originally started on and go up the staircase at the end of the north pathway. Upon entering the floor, you will see Orochimaru who will join you again. From here on you will be attacked by the Karakuri Soldiers, so be cautious. You can either use the Clay Robo and attack or have Ziria cast Nigemizu. Move in a somewhat counter clockwise motion starting in the area to the right of where Orochimaru stood and you will find a staircase that leads up. Go north on this floor and eventually you will each a door. Use the key you received from Priest Namagusa and go up the stairs. You're finally out of there! Now, you will have to fight the Invincible King. Move eastward and you will see an old man. Talk to him and the Invincible King will attack. All you have to do is let the Clay Robo do all the damage while everyone in the party stays alive. Once the not so Invicible King falls, move to the end of the port and Tsunade will comment that you should get some of the gold. Lucky for you, your bags are full of gold. Just move into the water and you'll be transported to Chiba Village. Chiba Village ============= Weapon Shop: 8500 River Sword 21500 Guren Bow 24800 Demon Axe 15000 Fire Plate Item Shop: 27 Antidote 60 White Crane Feather 2600 Hayabusa Sandals 380 Map of Chiba Inn: 80 Bank The famous swordsman Shuusaku was born here and will challenge you. Like the swordsmen before him, he can be cheap so level up if necessary before taking him on. Other villagers will tell you that the White Lion and White Tiger have been sealed in a village to the east. Kumogiri Village 14 =================== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 60 White Crane Feather 380 Map of Chiba Inn: 40 There is a man in the inn who whill give you as much gold as you want so money should not be a problem any longer. Talk to Hoteimaru in the inn to find out the weakness of the Karakuri Soldiers is an item called the Jiraika which is located in the Yourou Waterfall Cave. You will also hear rumors here about the Daimonkyou assembling new weapons in the north. Continue on to find out what they are up to. Shishitora Shrine ================= Item Shop: 18 Toad Oil 52 White Toad Oil 250 White Serpent Stone 27 Antidote Inn: 80 The White Lion and White Tiger were sealed by Genoumaru and Suioumaru of the Daimonkyou who are strong bosses that you will have to face later on. The White Lion will give everyone the White Lion Armor while the White Tiger will give you the White Tiger Sword, the White Tiger Bow and the White Tiger Axe. Head east to the waterfall when you are ready. Yourou Waterfall ================ Go into the hidden cave behind the waterfall and get the Jiraika item that Hoteimaru was talking about. Now head north to Kururi Town. Kururi Town =========== Weapon Shop (North): 65000 Sword of the Heavens 2500 Fire Helm 200 Ball of Gun Powder 560 Moon Sleeping Powder Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 4600 Elixir 60 White Crane Feather 27 Antidote Inn: 85 Bank Note that this is the last bank you will see for awhile so do your banking now. It is recommended that you give these 8 scrolls to Ziria leaving 1 slot open: Wakakusa, Ibuki, Suzukaze, Nigemizu, Kyoumizu, Kinjuu, Kumogiri, and Kageginu. The villagers will tell you that all of the able men have been dragged to the Underground Factory to make new weapons for the Daimonkyou. The source of the noises seems to be coming from under the shrine. Search the statue's base where the tile looks a bit off and you will discover a staircase. Underground Factory =================== Items: White Pheasant Tail Wood Bow Elixir 5000 ryou You can go back and get the items after defeating the boss without getting attacked. Go down the staircase you come to and you will come out of a pipe. Go in the pipe all the way to the left. Again, use the left pipe. Now, go to the top room and go in the right pipe. In the next room, go into the left pipe now. Again, use the left pipe. Now, you will be in a room with a set of pipes to the right. Use the middle pipe and prepare to battle Suioumaru. You MUST have Ziria seal his magic or he will cast Blizzard which not only hurts you but also paralyzes you! Have Orochimaru use the Hihebi technique to increase everyone's attack power and Ziria should seal his magic when necessary After he is defeated, Suioumaru will run off. Use the hole behind him to get to Narita Village. Narita Village ============== Item Shop: 52 White Toad Oil 58650 God Elixir 60 White Crane Feather 27 Antidote Inn: 85 In tis village, the people will tell you the White Toad is sealed in the north and is waiting for Ziria as it is safekeeping the Toad Orb. You may want to level up in the area below the village as there is a tough boss battle ahead. White Toad ========== Before you can reach the sealed White Toad, Suioumaru appears. He transforms into Kraken and attacks. Like the battle with Suioumaru, Ziria MUST seal Kraken's magic or it will use attack spells that affect your party's status. After the battle, talk with the White Toad and go into the cave which leads to the last land, Musashi. ========== 9. Musashi ========== Kumogiri Village 15 =================== The villagers here have prepared for your arrival. The owner of the item shop will give you as many free items as you need and the inn is free as well. Be sure to save and head north to the shrine. Fujimi Shrine ============= There's an interesting bug in the game here that you SHOULD take advantage of. The villagers tell you that all of the animal gods are waiting for you in the shrine. Upon talking to the White Dragon, he will give you the Magical Sword which nets you 15,808 experience points. Drop the sword and talk to it again to receive another sword and another 15,808 experience points! It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you level Ziria up to level 65 using this trick as the upcoming castles and enemies are DIFFICULT at lower levels. At level 65, many monsters will run from you, even Karakuri Soldiers! You can mow down regular enemies and bosses like they are nothing. Maebashi Town ============= There is a person from Kumogiri Village in a house on the west side that will allow you to save and there is a ruined shrine that the animal gods are in so you can heal. Another person in the house will tell you that you will need the Manual Pump to exploit the weakness of the monsters (Clay Robos) here. The pump is in the open house on the east side. Maebashi Castle =============== Items: Ball of Gun Powder Antidote Elixir Take the middle staircase up out of the left set of stairs and continue on until you come back down to the first floor and use the bottom staircase which will lead to Genoumaru. He will cut everyone's HP in half and calls forth Deikkoki. At your high level, you can just beat him down. Oshi Town ========= There is a ruined shrine where you can heal. In the castle, there are New Karakuri Soldiers so be sure to use the Jiraika against them. Oshi Castle =========== Items: White Serpent Stone Warrior Armor In the top row of stairs, use the 4th staircase from the left. This path will lead to Genoumaru again. He's impressed you beat the previous demon and this time seals everyone's magic. He calls forth Antetsuki and leaves. At your high level, you can just beat him down. Iwatsuki Town ============= There is a person from Kumogiri Village in a house on the east side that will allow you to save and there is a ruined shrine that the animal gods are in so you can heal. Iwatsuki Castle =============== Items: Antidote Moon of the 16th Day Katana Go up the first staircase you come across and on the next floor search the switch. Go back down and use the staircase in the northeast corner. This will lead you to Genoumaru who will seal your magic again and call forth Ginrouki. Kawagoe Town ============ There is a person from Kumogiri Village in a house on the east side that will allow you to save and there is a ruined shrine that the aminal gods are in so you can heal. The animal gods will give you a Tenshou Stone that will counteract the magic Genoumaru uses before each battle. Kawagoe Castle ============== Items: White Toad Oil Heaven & Earth Axe Beast Sandals Ariake Scroll Once inside, move forward and you should fall down a floor. Make sure to use the Kyoumizu technique to cross the posioned areas safely. Grab the Ariake Scroll (recovers 150 HP to each party member). Go north and you will find a stairway that leads back to the main floor. You will see two staircases in the middle, go up the top one. This path leads to Genoumaru who will cast a mysterious sleep spell on everyone and call forth Kongouki. After finishing the demon, Genoumaru will attack and then transform into Beliel once you hurt him enough. Just fight carefully to win. Go down the stairs and talk to your friends who are trapped. Go down the left staircase which leads to the Slug Orb. Items: Horned Helm Slug Orb (There are probably more items here but I was half asleep while playing.) On this floor you will encounter Kyuubi's Spirit, but you can dispatch any enemy easily now. Move on to the next floor and you will encounter Karmen Karmen's Spirit. In the center of the room, you will notice a staircase. That just leads to a Horned Helm. The real staircase lies under a box to the southwest of the center. Take the hidden set of stairs down and you will fight Carmille's Spirit before reaching the treasure chest with the Slug Orb. Go back to the top floor and now take the right staircase. Items: White Toad Oil God Elixir Magical Orb Serpent Orb (There are probably more items here but I was half asleep while playing.) Use the bottom stairway out of the left set of stairs. This path will lead to a room with a number of boxes in the south end. The Serpent Orb is in the box that is 2nd to the right. Mantou's Spirit is blocking the way but you can easily kock off this stupid ape. Go back up to the first floor and use the center staircase. Move north once you are the next floor. Do not move near the statues as you will fall down a floor. Just keep moving to the northeast corner. Along the way you will fight Goumon's Spirit, Gouyokku's Spirit, and Douman's Spirit but they should be little than an annoyance for you. Now that you have reached the bottom floor, once you step off of the stairs, Tarantue's Spirit will attack. You will have to move in a clockwise manner to get into the middle. Along the way, you will fight Kraken's Spirit, Invincible King's Spirit and Beliel's Spirit. They should all be no problem but they may take awhile to beat. Just use auto battle and watch the carnage, After you have fought Belial, you should be close to the middle, just walk north and you will find Jashinsai. After beating him, he will transform into Lucifellar. This fight needs to be taken a bit more seriously even though you are really powerful. Lucifellar has many status attacks that can leave you vulnerable so do pay attention and heal when necessary. When Lucifellar is dead, you're almost done... Go up to the statue and Masakado will attack. Just have everyone use their respective orbs. This will use HP but now Masakado cannot kill you. Keep healing and using the orbs together and this game is over! Final Stats: Ziria Level 75 Orochimaru Level 65 Tsunade Level 72 ====== Omake: ====== Hook up a multitap to your PC Engine and plug in a controller to port 3. Press the RUN button at the title screen to see a special sequence. Press any button on the first controller to advance the screen. After the ending credits have gone up and the kanji which means "fin" is on the screen, hit the RUN button and the omake scenes will start.
