Contact Information: ------------------------- Before emailing me, please READ THE ENTIRE FAQ, especially the explanation of what a team rating actually is. It has nothingto do with your prestige as a teams manager. If you need to contact me about the guide, please email me at samuelm@mail.utexas.edu. Please only email me with errors in the guide or requests for the guide. Any questions about the game (that do not have to do with things discussed in the guide) should be sent to a messageboard, like the one at www.soccergaming.tv . --------------------- 1.3. Added ratings explanation, edited margins, updated info on my next FAQ, redid the format a little. 01/13/04- 1.0 First submitted version. =========================================================================== || 2. Budget Info || =========================================================================== --------------------------------------------- 2.1. Introduction to FIFA 2004 Budget System: --------------------------------------------- Fifa 2004 uses two things to determine the starting salaries of a team, their league and their rating. For this reason, you should use this FAQ along with Psy's team ratings FAQ to see what each teams budget is. It can be found at Gamefaqs.com along with some other great FAQs. Since I have gotten some confusing emails, I will clear up what a team rating is. Whenever you select a team, either from the "Play Now" or "Career Mode" options in the menu, there are 5 stars below the teams name, however many are colored equals the teams rating. What IS NOT the teams rating are the stars that are on the top of the screen next to your name in the career mode. This is your career rating, which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than your teams' rating. --------------------------- 2.2. Categories of leagues: --------------------------- Fifa 2004 puts the leagues into four categories, which I have named Best, Good, English Division 2 and English Division 3 (the reason for the last two will be evident shortly). Depending on the quality of the league, the teams, regardless of their rating, will get a different amount of money. For instance, a team with a rating of 3 stars in a "Best" league, such as the Premier League, will start with 12 Million, where a team with the same rating in a "Good" league, such as English Division 1 or the Danish Superfigaen, will start with 8 Million. The English Division 2 and 3 have the lowest starting budgets, with Division 3 having the lower of the two. ---------------------------- 2.3. Disclaimer of Accuracy: ---------------------------- Once I found this relationship with team rating and league type, I stopped manually checking every team, so if any of these are incorrect then let me know and I will update the list. ------------------------------ 2.4. Relegation and Promotion: ------------------------------ It seems that relegation does not lower your rank at all, but promotion might raise it one star. Since I do not know exactly how your league performance affects your budget, I can't tell if teams have more money because of their good play in winning a league or if they get an extra point in their rating due to promotion. The budgets that promoted teams have seem to be consistent with gaining a point in your rank, so this is why I think this is what happens. Unfortunately, once you've gained a point due to promotion, you cannot gain another for being promoted to the same league. If this is confusing, here's what I tested. I got West Ham promoted from Eng. Div 1 to the FA Premier League, then they got relegated, then they got promoted again, and their budget was similar to when they got originally promoted. What I have not tested is taking a Division 3 team and getting them to either Eng Div 1 or the FA Premier League, and seeing what happens to their budget. If anyone tests this, let me know what happens. ---------------------------------- 2.5. Non-Promotion Budget Changes: ---------------------------------- As for what happens to your budget on successive seasons, this is somewhat unclear to me. I do know that your budget will change, but why I don't know. The changes that do occur in budget are pretty small though, with the largest that I've seen being 2.5 Million with Real Madrid. If anyone has any info on this please email me. Since vesion 1 I have revieved emails about teams that win everything they can but their budgets do not change. I have no reason for what could cause this, if anyone figures out why some budgets raise while others don't then let me know. ---------------------------------------------- 2.6. Do budgets carry over from year to year?: ---------------------------------------------- NO!! Your budget will not carry over to the next year, so if you were planning on saving up for a big player and not spending anything for a few years, this will not work. --------------------------------------------- 2.7. Simulated games, team changes, and rank: --------------------------------------------- Another interesting thing is that no matter how bad your team is, your rating will not lower. I tested this by taking Real Madrid and selling all of their players ranked over 65, and replacing them with the worst players I could find, looking specifically for ones below 40. This team not only won 3 League Championships, they kept their high budget also. This showed two things: simulating matches only uses your team rating to determine the stronger team and the team rating doesn't change if your players change from season to season. =========================================================================== || 3. Thus, I cannot see their rank to ensure the value. If you get a good lead on what they are then email me. =========================================================================== || 4. Future Plans Update || =========================================================================== The player list I discussed in the last version is half done, and will most likely be released in a CSV (comma seperated values) format so it can be transfered to either a spreadsheet or a database program. I will only write instructions for Excel and Access, since these are the programs I have. Expect this in a few weeks after this guide gets posted. *************************************************************************** *************************************************************************** Copyright 2004 Sam Morehouse All trademarks and copyrights contained in this document are owned by their respective trademark and copyright holders.
