It is powerful, yet hard to wield. You must get used to the fact that one shot, one bullet, and only 4 shots in one clip (if you use the Human Sniper Rifle). You need to develop a feel for the sniper rifle, and learn from the mistakes you made, whether in campaign or in multiplayer. Though most of you have mastered the basics of sniper, while others haven't, you intermediate or advanced snipers can take a peak at the advanced skills section or the sniping spots to see if you are missing something in your sniping database. Lot's of people like to rush for the sniper rifle, but can you shoot it? Nobody is impressed when four shots are fired and the enemy is still alive. Proper knowledge and skills about the sniper rifle should be taken with care, and hopefully by reading bits and pieces or the whole of this guide, you can increase your understanding of a powerful weapon. ***For some tips that are not from me, but from other Gamefaqs' players, go to section VIII, the Tips section.*** ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.3 KEY NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you don't know some basic terminology, here it is... S2 AM Sniper Rifle = (Human) Sniper Rifle Particle Beam Rifle = (Covenant) Beam Rifle Melee = Press B button when facing the front of an opponent. Assassination = Press B button when facing the back of an opponent (instant kill). Radar = the circle on the bottom left of your screen. It tells you if there are approaching enemies. Doesn't work if opponents are crouch-walking or if you are scoped. Energy Shields = your shield life. When they are depleted or are low or are making a warning noise, take immediate cover, as you are now in the death zone. Crouch = Press into the left analog stick. You will now drop low, and move slowly, but you will disappear from radars. You are harder to melee/assassinate, and snipe (usually). Scope = Press the right analog stick in to make the scope go to 5x (thanks Mike) or again to 10x or again to cancel. It allows you to zoom in for easier sniping on farther targets. Reticule = the circle of aim. If target is in this circle or moves into the circle by the time the shot has reached him, it will hit. Grenades = Press left trigger to send them flying. Pressing the Black circle button next to the White bottom will allow you to switch between Plasma Grenades and Fragmentation Grenades. Headshot = the ultimate mark of a sniper. A shot to the head yielding an instant kill (unless the person has an overshield). Invisibility = an blue pyramid. Pick it up to camouflage well, you will be revealed if you shoot or are hit. Overshield = an orange/yellow box on the ground that you can pick up to power yourself up 300%. During the power-up sequence (usually 2 seconds)...you are invincible. No-scope = sniping while not zoomed in, usually done at close range. Mythic = a difficulty beyond legendary. The enemies kill in about the same time as those in legendary, but they are twice as strong, and their shields may recharge quicker. See the skulls guides to learn where to get the mythic skull. You must have gone through a level on legendary in order for the mythic skull to boost the difficulty beyond legendary. If you beat it at normal, it will not work. Master Chief = MC = Spartan 117 =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.4 VERSION HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Started work on this guide sometime around the 13th through 15th of March 2006. Version - .900, March 18, 2006: The guide is basically done. All that is needed is some additional expansion in some points throughout the guide, a few corrections that may be needed, and possibly a couple points brought up by emails. Version - 1.000, June 28, 2006: Ah, after such a long time, I've finally concluded this Sniper's Guide. I've polished it up, added line breaks to make reading easier, responded to emails, added some slight information, and edited small bits of my guide. Of course, always pick up the sniper weapon closest too you. Such concerns on comparisons should only be noted during times when the two types appear rather commonly, such as Team Snipers. They are both deadly weapons, but in Team Snipers, always go with the Sniper Rifle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. GETTING STARTED ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 INVERTED vs. DEFAULT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's all about how your brain works...Do you think creatively, logically, or practically? If you think like you're controller is controlling how your body works, inverted is for you. Push the analog stick up, but that's really down, because your head moves forward, push it back, and it's like you are falling back. It's just like an airplane. Default is just as if you were to think like a computer. Up is up, down is down. I used to be default when first learning how to play halo, but I was really horrible. Then they told me, maybe inverted is better, and wow, what a difference. Truly, you will be better at one than the other. It's all what side of the brain you think more on. They are very good inverted and very defaulted players out there, whatever takes your fancy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.2 SENSITIVITY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm...sensitivity...it is all about feel. I do not recommend sensitivity below 3...you need to have the ability to turn fast enough so people can't easily assassinate you. Some people like to turn down their sensitivity during a sniping game, but truly, I don't believe that is good, stay at what you use always. I have met very good players on Xbox Live that snipe using sensitivities that range from 3 to 7. It is easier to swipe snipe using a sensitivity of 1, but what is the benefit when most of your encounters will be at middle or long ranges? If you are new, I suggest using 5, and just adjust after you have gotten used to the game. I use a 6, but I have bobbed from 5 to 7, depending on how long I've played. Due to lag and such, high sensitivities are not recommended. People with sensitivities of 3 have more control in a lagged game then those who have sensitivities of 10, because they can easily maneuver in the jagged games. There are really good players with high sensitivities, but they are few...Remember what Bungie says, faster is not always better... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.3 GETTING USED TO HALO 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, maybe you came from Halo: CE, or maybe you've never played console FPS's before...well there is a lot you need to know. You need to learn how to aim and shoot basic weapons, before you try the sniper rifle - the most advanced weapon in the game. You must know the button combinations cold, otherwise you will just be hampering yourself and your team when you do go into multiplayer matches. Halo 2 has a special thing called "sticky aim" which is explained better in the advanced technique section, but such aspects alter sniping. For a person coming from Halo: CE, he or she will find it much easier to snipe people, since truly the sniper reticule doesn't need to be precisely on the person. For getting used to Halo 2, I suggest one-two run throughs of the Campaign on Normal and Heroic difficulty (legendary or mythic if you want to waste more time). After that, if you decide to play on Xbox Live, do at least 5 to 10 games in Team Training. Then spend most of your time leveling up in Team Slayer. If you achieve a level 20 or higher (which most are capable of doing), you should be ready for Team Snipers. Team Hardcore can also improve your aim. *Note on level system* Do not think because you are a level 20, you are good. Levels mean nothing. I have friends that are level 4's who could rape level 30's, but do not feel the need to join with cheaters, and people with bad hosts. Level 20 is a good number for those starting out for the FIRST TIME. You will still not be that good, but with custom games, and much practice, you should be a decent shooter. Usually I find most people at level 20 or higher these days fairly decent since this is their 3rd or 4th account. Most of us are basically even, a level 20 can be on par with level 35's, etc...Most stop at level 20 or little up, because they do not feel the need to mix with modders...and those who have gotten into the level 30's have usually boosted...there are NO LEGIT level 40's or high, all are boosters or cheaters!!! If you have gotten to level 20 for the first time, you will most likely not be good enough to compete with level 20's who have done it for their 4th time, because truly they are level 30's. Do not take on tasks such as the sniping unless you know you are good. I personally hate when somebody demands the sniper rifle, and at the end of the game they have 2 kills, 18 deaths, and a level 28 next to their name...LEVEL MEANS NOTHING!!! PRACICE, PRACTICE, and PERFECT PRACTICE to get to PERFECTION! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. BASICS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 LEARNING HOW TO AIM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The campaign will teach you this. Aiming can't be taught through words. It can only be done through practicing in all the games you play (campaign or multiplayer). If you are finding tremendous problems with your aiming, such as not being able to keep it still while aiming, I suggest you turn down your sensitivity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 SCOPING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click in your right analog stick to enable scooping. Click once for 5x (thanks goes to Mike) scope, click again for 10x scope, and click once more to go back to regular view. 5x (Mike again...see emails for more info) scoping is great for looking around the map, but always pop out to check your radar and your surrounding area for any encroaching enemy. Do not try to scope a far target without a scope, it is very hard, and chances are you will be killed after missing and giving off your position. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3 CROUCHING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Push your left analog stick in (click it in) to crouch low. This has the ability to make you disappear from radar. It also gives you more stability in your sniping since you are forced to grip your controller more firmly. It is also harder for people to see you since usually only your helmet is visible. It is also harder to melee since the melee usually misses at that low height unless the enemy crouches as well. A melee to the knees is equal in power to a melee with a bomb in the hand. Make sure when you are crouched that when you shoot, you do not miss, since the enemy will trace you and when they shoot, the shot will be to the only part visible - your head. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4 MOVING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moving is crucial when you are a sniper. Never stay in a place to long. Usually after eliminating about 4 to 5 people, it is time to go. If you have been a place for more than two minutes, it is time to go. Unless you have a close range weapon, you should never stay in one place too long. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.5 STRAFING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is basically a continuation from moving. Strafing can be very effective during a snipers game. When trying to hit a moving target, it can be made easier by trying to follow the movement of the enemy. If he is moving down the field, move down the field with him, with your scope on his head. You will no longer need to worry about the side-to-side aiming, only the up-and-down aiming. When being shot at, strafing or moving around is very effective. Move in non- predictable patterns to confuse the enemy, he will surely use up his clip, giving you time to pop him when he tries to reload or wait for his weapon to cool down. NEVER, EVER JUMP...JUMPS ARE PREDICTABLE...what comes up, must come down, how much simpler can it get...I still jump sometimes, but I'm better than before...But if you jump, any sniper worth his salt, will take you down. "when sniper v. sniper, strafe left and right and use the movement of your body to line up the shot. so your basically dodging and sniping at the same time." - Brandon Sacco ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.6 PREDICTING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ah...what is this divination? No, it's simple common sense. If the opponent is across the map, some prediction will be needed. If he is moving, by the time the shot reaches him, the bullet will miss by a few feet. You must predict slightly ahead, only slightly. Such predictions are only necessary on maps such as Coagulation. If a game is laggy, prediction is a vital tool. Predict where the target will land in one second, and the shot will hit - an infamous tactic from Halo: CE PC version. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.7 CRITICALLY THINKING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basically a carry over from predicting. Try to always know where the enemy is. If you are winning, there is no point in trying for kills anymore. Let them come to you, and you should be easily able to pick them off, since you will be relaxed, and they will not. Do not hand out in groups; you will only make it easier for one or two unspotted snipers to pull of a killtacular...If near the end of game, let's say thirty seconds to a minute or less, and you are only winning by one or two, NEVER ENGAGE THE ENEMY. I don't know how many times I have beaten player by just one after they decide to pop there heads out only to get sniped and giving me a triple kill. Also, I can remember the times when I've lost by one, when two of my teammates don't head my warnings. It happens, especially when I'm sure most of them don't even know what the capital of their nation is...true story... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.8 FINDING THE SPOT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, you want to find the perfect sniping spot? Look at my sniping spot locations section. There are a lot of sniping spots on a map. Some are good, but leave you wide open, while others are not good, but keep you sheltered. You must know when to use a certain location to snipe. When the time has come to change spots, if you haven't died already, you must get to a nice spot. If you can pull of several kills, and always take cover if you get shot at, then that is the typical example of a good sniping spot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.9 SHOOTING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm...how hard is shooting? Not hard at all. Just pull the right trigger and bam, you have fired at shot. Remember, when you shoot, you leave a trail that lingers for half-a-second, and anybody looking in that vicinity will be able to trace where it came from. Finish off your target and if you are out in the open, you better take cover. Typical example is Containment. The entire field is a great sniping spot, only problem is that there is no cover, and you will die in less than ten seconds if you don't take shelter. Now then how about where to shoot? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 4.9.1 BODY SHOT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ A body shot is great. It is a large area, and you can set it up quickly. With a human sniper rifle, two shots can easily be delivered into that area to give a kill. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 4.9.2 HEADSHOT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The one-shot kill. There is a thing called time though...If you take more time to set up a headshot than the time it would have taken to shoot twice into the body, then you have wasted time. When you have found your victim, you should only allow less than half-a-second to set-up for the headshot...if you are unable to aim for the head in that time frame, go for the body immediately and hope the target has not spotted you. If you aim in on a person and he is already firing on you, body shots are usually the only option. Headshot is for grace, but for the win, the body shot is a necessity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.10 PRATICING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I said before, practicing is key. You will not get any better without practice. A greater practice weapon in combination with the sniper rifle is the Battle Rifle (BR55) since it has a bigger reticule and the only purpose of the weapon is to deliver the 4-shot headshot. Great for headshot practice. When trying to learn new skills with a sniper rifle, always try them in a custom or training game, before doing them for real. Remember the sniper rifle is one bullet, one chance. Campaign is great also since the enemies are more predictable than humans... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. ADVANCED TECHNIQUES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not try to do advance techniques unless you are a good sniper, it is just a waste of time, ammo, and makes you look quite stupid. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 SWIPE SNIPING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Swipe Sniping is take advantage of the sticky aim that Bungie has put in to counteract the imprecision of hands on a control compared to them on a mouse and a lag that sometimes occurs. It existed in Halo: CE, but it is about twice to three times that in Halo 2. Ever notice when you are aiming at one person and then when another enemy walks in front of you, the reticule is magically pulled onto them without you touching your control? That is sticky aim. You can also see it in action when you scope and slowly move the reticule to a still target. If you do it slowly enough, the speed at which it approaches the target will slow down, and when it reaches the target - if you have done it slow enough - the reticule will stop moving, even though it still should be continuing to move. Not until you increase the degree of the aiming will it move off the target, sometimes in a slingshot effect. Swipe Sniping takes advantage of this. Swipe sniping is usually easier done at lower sensitivities since it will take more time and more effort to rip the reticule off a target it has magically stuck itself onto. All you have to do is scope, and swing your reticule across a person. And when the reticule turns red, it is the time to shoot. It takes practice, but with mastery, you can pull off close-range headshots, or one shoot + melee combos. Swipe Sniping is not recommended over long distances. The ideal distance is about 25m to 50m. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 BXR'ing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BXR is wonderfully done with the pistol and the battle rifle. It is not that great with the sniper rifle. What you do is when you approach a person, you melee them, but at the instant you hear the smack, press the X button to cancel the delay time, and then immediately press R to shoot. Due to the aiming system, the melee will usually have your reticule pointed at the head after impact to deliver an unbelievably fast kill. Since you hit them with a melee at a running pace, the smack should bring the shields down for a headshot kill. If you do not hit them at moving pace, you will not bring their shields down enough to deliver the fast kill. It doesn't take much movement, just make sure you aren't standing still when you do it. This shouldn't be much problem since you are usually always moving. Make sure you don't walk backwards, because the melee will not give you that special slight lunge to set-up for the kill, always move forward to pull off BXR. BXR is not so good with the sniper rifle, since during Xbox Live, it usually works well only for the host. Also there is no true advantage, since you could easily snipe them and then melee them for a quick kill. *You must have a full clip when you do the BXR trick, otherwise, when you press X to cancel the melee motion, it will trigger a reload sequence, not good... For a video of a good example of BXR go here: http://media.putfile.com/BXR-BXB-XR-glitches Thank you "johnthehero" for that excellent demonstration, hope your guide pulls through. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.3 NO-SCOPING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There isn't much to no-scoping. All that is needed is that you shoot your target un-scoped. No-scoping takes a lot of practice and feel, and should usually only be done at short distances. It will give you an edge over the person who tries to zoom since he will take slightly longer to focus. What makes it so difficult is that there is no-sticky aim for un-scoped targets. Another problem is if you scope and the other person hits you, you will un- scope, and that will be a problem. At close ranges, such as 15m and less, always go for the no-scope. It just takes practice to get used to shooting unassisted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 5.3.1 NO-SCOPE HEADSHOT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This is called the master shot. You walk around a corner, and another guy appears in your face. You pull the trigger, he dies in one shot. The unbelievable shot. It is very hard to pull off in tight situations, and it is more about luck. Though with practice, you can learn to walk with your reticule pointing at head height so that if anybody appears, you can easily kill them in one shot, just stay calm and don't let your reticule go crazy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 5.3.2 NO-SCOPE COMBO \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This is my favorite thing to do when I'm close up. I'm not scared of my doom as I approach another person who has a close range weapon. I just come up to them, make sure my reticule is on them as I shoot, and smash them with a melee, a very effective killing method. My suggestion though would not be to try to approach a rocket, shotgun, or sword in this style though. Stay back and if they are in that no-scope range 15m or less, try to pull of a quick two-body headshot or a no-scope headshot. I have been able to kill a person carrying the sword who was already lunging at me by shooting him in the head. You think you are dead, but then realize that his body has just flown past you, an awesome satisfaction - truly humiliating to the swordsman. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.4 SUPERBOUNCE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Superbounce is awesome for getting to good sniper spots. Though I would only try it in situations where you are easily winning. It is a good way to taunt the fellow enemy. There are many videos and guides out there telling you how to superbounce, and there are many superbounces on every single map. Bungie designed the game so that it would include superbounces. It is not cheating, but if people who have just been creamed leave feedback on you via Xbox Live feedback system, you might be suspended for a day or two, though I have yet to see that happen to me. Superbounce can give you a good sniping spot, and it usually takes the enemy about 3 to 4 times before they realize where the heck the shots are coming from. You are usually dead by then. All I can say is to find superbounce spots, go to your friends' list in the middle of a game, and then exit out of it. Your setting will all be polygonomic now and where you find dark lines streaking through is where you must jump to get a superbounce. Crouch, jump, always hold forward, and tap A-button continuously if you want to feel better. Check out the video lists people on Gamefaqs have or just ask on the boards for a visual demonstration. It is a lot easier to understand than words. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.5 Dieing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a little technical, and explained again in a later section. But there are some things you can do to hamper the other team. One is called kill-to- death ration. You always want to have more kills than more deaths. If you don't die, you aren't giving the other team a point. If you kill and then get killed afterwards your KtD ratio is 1 to 1, and thus there was no point for that kill since you still have a net score of 0. A person who has a KtD of 10 to 3 is better than a person with 20 to 31 since, the former stayed in the positive and only gave the other team 3 points, while the other member contributed negatively to your team, giving the other team 31 points. When you have the sniper and you are about to die, it is better to make sure not to give the team an advantage. Do not let them get the sniper. Ways to this are to use up as much ammo as you are about to die, and another way is if you are near a ledge to fall off of, such as Ascension or Relic, you make sure your sniper flies over the edge (by jumping off it) so that the team will have to wait for it to spawn again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. CAMPAIGN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.1 USING THE SNIPER RIFLE CORRECTLY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In campaign, there are some techniques you can use with the sniper to better assist your troops and yourself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6.1.1 YOUR TROOPS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Take the sniper rifle off your troop who has it, and use it up till it only has one bullet left in it. At that time, give it back to a troop to use. He will have unlimited shoot capability. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6.1.2 CONSERVING \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This is not too hard, just make sure that you don't spend 4 bullets on a single grunt (except in Mythic). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.2 KILLING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So now, I go into the perfect spots to hit people to use up the least amount of bullets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6.2.1 HUMANS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Why would you want to kill your fellow troops? Not only would they start opening up on and calling you a betrayer, you are now on no one's side...Covenant or Human (or Flood)... Well if you want to be a sick creature (which MC isn't in his true nature only by the evil that controls him beyond the TV) then aim for the head. It will usually yield a headshot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6.2.2 COVENANT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Now your true enemy, now we're talking! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.1 GRUNTS ############################################################################### Aim for their little held to yield a headshot, or usually two shots to the body will do him in...poor little creature. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.2 JACKALS ############################################################################### The most annoying creatures in the game. If you have the sniper rifle, you must aim for that little hole on the left side of their shield. One shot will usually disorientate them, and them you can fire a round at their head or body to take them out, may take two shots. If you use the Beam Rifle, then you are in luck, since you can do it in one- shot, since the bullet will not ricochet off the shield, but actually eliminate it and go straight for their skull (if you were aiming for that). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.3 DRONES ############################################################################### One shot to anywhere will kill a drone. Don't waste your ammo too much. It is a great way to practice no-scopes and very fast moving targets (while scoped) from an up-down perspective. I find it a lot harder to snipe from above or below than side-to-side while scoped in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.4 BRUTES ############################################################################### Disgusting creatures. One shot to take off their helmet, and another shot to the head to fry their brain. If you are able to shoot where the helmet isn't you will yield a kill. Several shots to kill if you aim for their body. Make sure you have another weapon in reserve if they start charging, but yet if you want more no-scoping practice the better. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.5 HUNTERS ############################################################################### Aim for the yellow/orange belly they expose sometimes and also around the neck. It will yield a one-shot kill. If you feel like it you can practice no-scopers by coming close-up to them and then try to pop them off as they start charging at you (remember to walk backwards during this situation!). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.6 ELITES ############################################################################### Always aim for the head, it takes to long if you shoot at the body. Will usually kill in two shots, and for the more higher classes (such as the Special silver elites that you find in the Scarab) they will take four bullets to the head (and higher if you play on Mythic!). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.7 THE HERETIC ############################################################################### I don't believe there are any snipers around, unless you felt like bringing one. But hey, if you did, good job, it will make things easier, just aim for the head, and follow the techniques of taking out an elite. I prefer using sticky grenades and dual plasma rifles though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.8 THE PROPHET OF REGRET ############################################################################### You will not damage him by shooting at him. You must board him and melee him to death. Such an old fart of a creature. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.2.9 TARTARUS ############################################################################### Hmm...Sarge has the sniper rifle so let him take down his shields and then just open up with brute plasma rifles. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6.2.3 THE FLOOD \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Well, at least now the bullet won't pass through them, as they did in Halo:CE. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.3.1 THE VIRUS ############################################################################### You aren't being conservative. Use another weapon such as the shotgun to easily mop the floor with these creatures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.3.2 THE CARRIERS ############################################################################### The bullet will still pass through them, I believe, I can't remember. So no point in wasting ammo here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 6.2.3.3 THE INFECTED ############################################################################### Ah, well now, the bullet will actually stay in the body now. There isn't a point for aiming at the creatures head, aim for the flood virus at the side or in the chest with the tentacles sticking out to kill the virus and render the infected harmless. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.3 DIFFERENT DIFFICULTIES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On easy, it is very easy (duh) to kill enemies with the sniper rifle. So is it with normal, and heroic. Legendary though starts to get hard, since the enemy can usually kill you in less then one second if you stand out in the open. This is where training for Xbox Live becomes valuable. You will need to learn how to crouch, and move around undetected. And Mythic, you will truly cry, since not only can they kill in legendary time, but they are about twice as strong as their legendary counterparts. You aren't getting anywhere with a sniper rifle if you can't deliver headshots. I suggest a Particle Beam Rifle when confronting them, since during the reload sequence, their shields might recharge, and all those headshots were for nothing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. MULTIPLAYER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.1 SPLIT-SCREEN/LAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, you want a lag free game, then come on over to split-screen and LAN. They are very nice since you can practice in perfect condition. Make sure you don't create your montages under LAN or split-screen conditions, because people will say it was a set-up or that it was modded. Oh and btw... For LAN and split-screen: Shotgun > Sword For Xbox Live: Sword > Shotgun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.1.1 SCREEN WATCHING \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ One of the reasons people hate split-screen. True skill is only judged on different TV's or Xbox Live. Split-screen is open to screen watching. You will always know where your opponent is. You can set-up for the kill, instead of always being on guard. I have seen mediocre players well able to stay up or even beat world-class players just because they are awesome at screen watching. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.2 XBOX LIVE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xbox Live is a very nice way to test your skills. Cheaters are usually banned from matchmaking, and those who do make it are usually banned within 8 hours. The only problem that still persists is that it is open to lag, standby, and bridging. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.2.1 MATCHMAKING \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Go into matchmaking to see how you compare with other players of the same level. You will want a higher level, and so will they, so you will usually play well. Unless lag occurs, there isn't much problem. The host does have a slight advantage, since he will never lag, but usually since Bungie (or is it Xbox Live) who has created such a good system, the lag is usually negligible in games containing 8 or fewer people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.2.2 CHEATING \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Ah!!! Cheating!!! You know what is the common aspect of cheating? It can only be done if you are host. To find out who is host, as the game starts up, and you are in a black screen, hold the "back" button to show the player's list. The one that doesn't have a "red X" next to their name is the host. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.2.2.1 STANDBYING ############################################################################### For those who have routers (I don't, I have to haul my connection from my computer to the Xbox back and forth, not that great)...if you are host, you can press the standby button. This pauses all communication from other Xbox's and will allow you to keep playing, unharmed. The only problem is that the standby'er may lag out, but usually since he is host, it will be rare. Secondary standby is when a person who is not host presses the standby button. The game will severally lag, and the person must only hold it for a few seconds for they will lag out, since they are not host. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.2.2.2 DUMMY GLITCH ############################################################################### This trick no longer works, Bungie fixed it. You had to be an elite. Then you made a copy of yourself by jumping in and out of the warthog. You would then be invisible. You'd then be driven over to the flag place. Your other mate would get the flag, and just as he is about to die, he throws the flag to you, (you are invisible to everybody)...(so he guesses that you are around there)...then when you get the flag, you then take a step, and boom you are back to your original copy, where your true guy is. That's the basics. Make a copy, have someone bring you in warthog, get out of warthog (don't move), guy throws the flag, pick it up, take a step, and you are teleported back with the flag. That's the simple one, I think there's more complex ones, because I experienced on my team someone who got all 3 flags on Coagulation in under a minute. Though it doesn't work anymore, it freaked people out until a video on the Internet was revealed about that type of cheating. Though in true since anyone could do it on Xbox Live without any equipment from outside source it wasn't cheating...but Bungie said it was (w/e control freaks) so what they say goes, but I doubt they could trace it. I only got to experience 3 or 4 times before they fixed it, and wow, I was amazed...I'm on Coag. and I see the warthog taking off, and I'm like, wow they didn't take the sniper, guess I should get it and try to protect them...I teleport and then start walking along the cliff...all of a sudden "flag taken", "flag captured" in less than a 5 sec. span...and wow, I was like...there is no way that is standby...then after the game was done in about a minute, the other team said..."yep"..."the dummy glitch." And that's how it goes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.2.2.3 MODDING ############################################################################### If you've been on Xbox Live and are a fairly decent player, then you have certainly encountered at least one modded game. Mods are awesome when done in custom games and when everyone can use them (such as building stair cases, spawning warthogs with rockets, nobody dies, super high jumps, flying turrets, etc...) but when you go into Matchmaking and you get modded, that is no fun cookie. Mods can be soft (via action-replay) or hard (a chip implant into your Xbox)...modding used to be crazy before they found a way to ban modders quickly from Matchmaking...now anyone who signs on with mods will be banned from Matchmaking in about 8 hours. Some typical examples of when you are being modded are you keep spawning in the same place, and dieing in less than a sec., you keep hearing a BR on automatic fire, shooting Sniper Bullets that always hit your head, see a person traveling at Superman speed, etc.... It is wonderful to have a modder on your team, but when you are modded, you just want to strangle the guy. If team slayer, the game will usually be over in about 3 minutes. Hey, you can get level 50 in 8 hours, but then what's the point when you are banned? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.2.2.4 BOOSTING ############################################################################### Boosting usually occurs around the level 30's. Boosters usually are a group of eight people. Four of them go in one team, the other four in another team. They communicate via phone and AIM. They are usually about the same levels. They time themselves to enter Matchmaking at the same time, and are usually paired since there are less people around the level 30's. So then, they can trade off, one time they win, next time they lose. At since it takes about 3 games to level up, and about 5 games to lose a level, they are always getting a positive net game. Basically in one night, if done well, they can go from about level 30's to 35's and then the next night into the 40's. Bungie says it is cheating, and if they catch you (I guess they review the gamestats), they will downgrade your levels back to where they were before. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.2.2.5 BRIDGING ############################################################################### I don't know much about bridging, but it is the newest form of cheating in the Xbox Live Halo 2 community. You need a router, a program called Zone Alarm, a computer, and probably some other stuff I don't know. Some justify bridging because it can be used to get host always and not be cheated by modders (since modders need to be host for their Xbox to give the maps of all the people a modded environment). Though I still (and Bungie) consider this cheating, because some people don't have the stuff (like I who doesn't have a router, and Zone Alarm), so it is a disadvantage to us, and because you must use outside sources (such as your computer) to interrupt the traffic on Xbox Live (you are breaking the law...). Though that's not the real harm. The real problem is that people who are host can use Zone Alarm as a firewall, and knock people off their connection. Basically, a person who can bridge can easily get an advantage if they lag out (disconnect) 2 people from the other team, thus 4 vs. 2, and usually an easy win. I don't know what Bungie is doing about this, but all I can tell you from personally experience is that they are doing a rotten job, since this happens to me about 1 in every 5 to 6 games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.3 SNIPER RIFLE AND BEAM RIFLE LOCATIONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.1 MIDSHIP \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ No sniper rifle. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.2 ZANZIBAR \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ On a platform where you can walk up some ramps and there is a huge stone structure above it. It is the closest sniper rifle to the defense base (the platform in the center to the right). On the offense side, if you walk up the stairs and just go straight, you will walk over it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.3 LOCKOUT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The smaller tower, where there are three explosive cores. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.4 IVORY TOWER \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ If you go up the elevator to the top floor, it is located in front of you if you walk forward looking in the right direction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.5 ASCENSION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ From the small sniper tower, if you walk down the ramp on the right, you will see it on a platform. From the large sniper tower, if you walk down the ramp, and go left, you will see it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.6 BEAVER CREEK \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Walk up the cliff on the overshield side and you will find it. It is opposite to the cliff you can walk up where you can find a pistol, and then jump up to get a rocket on the arch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.7 COLOSSUS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Go up the lift, and look down, you will see it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.8 BURIAL MOUNDS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ At the entrance of the tunnel on the defense side. On the offense side, just go up to the structure nearby to find it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.9 WATERWORKS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ There is one at each base, on the top floor. "There is a sniper in the middle structure, on the opposite side of the Brute Shot." Thanks James aka Onurbkol (XBL: PerviousPjb) for that information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.10 HEADLONG \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ There is one at each base...you need to look at this map first to make sure you know where the rifles are. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.11 COAGULATION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Top of each base, on the right side of the teleporter. You can find ammo where the shotgun spawn is in the rocks near the base. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.12 FOUNDATION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ None on this map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.13 TURF \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ If you break the glass and go up the ramp (across from the warthog), and then take a right, you will see it on the corner ledge, right across from the warthog. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.14 SANCTUARY \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ At each base, a left of the turrets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.15 WARLOCK \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ None on this map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.16 CONTAINMENT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Hard to explain, but walk up to the top floor of the base, and go to the left until you reach close to the end of the structure before it starts turning into rock and snow. Jump down to the floor below to get it (the front of the structure). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.17 BACKWASH \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ None on this map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.18 ELONGATION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ None on this map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.19 GEMINI \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Take the teleporter to the outside or just walk out there. It is nearby the teleporter on the outside. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.20 RELIC \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ There is a beam rifle where the elevator is to the sniping tower. At the warthog side, there is a sniper rifle to the right of the structure on the offense side. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.21 TERMINAL \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ On the offense side, if you just keep walking down the main road that would take you to the other side, you will see it on your right. On the defense, it is to the left of the wraith. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.4 SNIPING SPOTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not to hard, just find where people like to snipe, and that's usually a good sniping spot, though, I'll give you some more in my next update. For this update, just one or two. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.1 MIDSHIP \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Your base is good for sniping in custom games, but usually just move around and go for no-scopes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.2 ZANZIBAR \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The sea wall and the side cliff where the defense sniper rifle can be got. Superbounce to the roof and on top of the wheel is also very effective, especially the wheel, since many people take a long time to realize that one. Though you can easily be sniped in the attempt to do it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.3 LOCKOUT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The lift, the sniper tower (a little down, not all the way up), the middle floor of the sniper tower, and the Battle Rifle tower. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.4 IVORY TOWER \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The place where you grab the sniper rifle, and the other side of the map, around the plasma pistol where you can jump into trees to hide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.5 ASCENSION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The two sniper towers, but make sure you are covered. The place where the banshee spawns, and also the ramp that leads down to the shotgun is also a good place to poke your head out and snipe when people try to cross the field. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.6 BEAVER CREEK \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The top of the bases, and on the rocky edge to the left of the sniper rifle spawn site. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.7 COLOSSUS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ At base, one side of the tunnel where the sniper rifle is found, or on the platforms to get a clear shot at the enemy base. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.8 BURIAL MOUNDS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ On top of the ribs, superbounce to on top of the map, in the bases, the place near the walkway to the rocket launcher where the needlers are to get a good spawn kill site for bomb and CTF games when on defense and other team is on offense. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.9 WATERWORKS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ At base, or up the stairs in the middle structure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.10 HEADLONG \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The overshield site, the upper heights, and the spawn site that gives you a clear shot at those standing on the overshield building (if they are not aware). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.3.11 COAGULATION \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ At the bases, and on the cliff walkways. "Here's another spot in Coagulation where you can snipe. There is a small rock platform on the cliff, right of the blue base (when I say right I mean if you are looking at red base, it's on your right). The only trick is that you need a banshee to get to it. It's got two doorways, a ramp, and a roof flap as the only places of entry. Also the tops of the bases, and at the end of the railroad track on the defense side, and across the main road. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 SNIPING IN MULTIPLAYER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are some tips for a better game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.5.1 ETIQUETTE \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Never be a sniper hog. If you are the first to get to the sniper take it. But never harass a person who has already got the sniper. Never call the sniper. It makes you look childish. Though if somebody calls it, just let him have it to keep him happy. If you are doing bad, it is advisable that you give your sniper to somebody who has suggested that maybe they should snipe instead, or just ask if anyone wants the sniper. Using proper etiquette such as that will keep your teammates happy, and possibly earn you another friend on your friends' list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.5.2 KILL-TO-DEATH RATIO \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ I've said this before, but this is basically about net gain. If you don't have a positive net gain during the game, you are not assisting your team. Your goal is to get the highest kills with the fewest deaths. A person who killed 15 people and died 2 times, did better than a person who killed 25 and died 28 times, because while the former had +13, the latter ended with -3. If you kill 25 times and die 28 times the score for you is 25 while the score for them is 28, you are still losing...Avoid dieing at all costs. It's alright to kill someone and then get killed immediately afterwards, since the net gain will be 0, and no loss...but it is better to make sure you have a retreat spot, kill a person, retreat back to recover, and then kill again, and repeat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.5.3 HAMPERING OTHER TEAM \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Hampering team is just making it harder for the other team to win. One of the easiest ways to do this is to hog the power weapons, and prevent them from ever getting them. You can do this by getting the sniper rifle and then when an enemy comes around, and you are about to die, you can fire off the remaining rounds to make the enemy only have a possibility of very few kills, or better yet...if it is a map you can jump off, jump off with the weapon as you are about to die...he'll get the kill for it, but he won't get the weapon, and when it does spawn again, just take the enemy out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7.5.4 TECHNIQUES \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Technique is mostly acquired through experience and only some hints can make this acquisition less painful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.1 RUMBLE PIT ############################################################################### I don't have much rumble pit experience, because I hate playing without teammates. I wouldn't suggest a sniper, since Rumble Pit is all about kill stealing, and trying to kill as many enemies as fast as possible, rather than waiting for them to come to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.2 TEAM SLAYER ############################################################################### I love team slayer, because now you have team support. One person snipes in a certain area, and the other three defend that sniper. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.3 TEAM SKIRMISH ############################################################################### The sniper rifle is a great defense weapon, yet not a great offense weapon, since usually the defense is hunkered down in the base waiting for the onslaught. It's harder to snipe indoors than in an open field. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.4 TEAM SNIPERS (see section 7.8) ############################################################################### ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.5 DOUBLE TEAM ############################################################################### If you or your teammate has the sniper, make sure if you have the sniper that he defends you, or if he has the sniper, you defend him. Of course, in objective games, you must adapt, and leave the sniper alone sometimes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.6 BIG TEAM BATTLE/6 vs. 6 ############################################################################### Just stay in the shadows, and pick off the enemy. You could easily pull of killtaculars, kill frenzies, killtrocities, and (if you are lucky) even a killimanjaro, as long as you stay calm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.7 TEAM HARDCORE ############################################################################### Make sure you have your sniper rifle down cold. The BR is very effective in taking down snipers, and if you don't get the BR person in less than two shots, you are pretty much dead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### 7.5.4.8 UNRANKED/CUSTOM GAMES ############################################################################### Enjoy, practice, and learn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.6 YOU vs. SNIPER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stay out of his view. If he's scoped, just assassinate. Use the n00b combo, or accuracy with the Battle Rifle to take him down fast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.7 SNIPER vs. SNIPER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Usually, you will always know where the sniper is. If you have a sniper, make sure he is not looking at you. If he is, retreat and try to confuse him, and then snipe from a different location. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.8 TEAM SNIPERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ah, everyone has a sniper. Don't hang out with your teammates, maybe two in a group is fine, but don't stay close together. Look different ways for maximum area covered. If your teammate falls, retreat and pinpoint where it came from, and then when you know, predict and take aim. If a map has overshield or invisibility, take advantage of that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. ***TIPS*** (by other fellow Gamefaqs' players) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lazy_Git | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:11:57 PM | Message Detail Yes: Aiming is crucial. --- Gamertag: Scruffy Git ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: KID VID | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:15:56 PM | Message Detail Always keep moving and don't stay in one place for too long. --- Xbox Live GamerTag: KIDD VIDD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: NeuralLaxative | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:16:51 PM | Message Detail Dont bother no scoping unless they are close enough for a body shot and a melee --- Duke Nukem Forever IS coming...eventually GT: DressedToKi11 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: ottoboy07 | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:35:34 PM | Message Detail Don't keep yourself Exposed for more than 2 seconds --- "See this, this is my Boomstick!" ~ army of darkness ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: ottoboy07 | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:36:34 PM | Message Detail If you are in a good spot, check your back, nothing more humiliating then a rifle butt to the head ending your killtacular... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Golden_ArcV2 | Posted: 3/11/2006 2:37:39 PM | Message Detail Rank doesn't mean anything buddy. Instead, zig zag and move in a random fashion. I know this seems like bad advice but because of the physics in Halo 2 the "moon jump" essentially slows down your movement, and when you have no shields there is nothing worse than falling through the air like you were on the moon. *There are rare occasions when it's ok to jump. Use these when your common sense tells you. -Always, always zig zag when you walk. A lot of the time you'll be sniped from the side, and strafing can save your life a lot. Not to mention if an enemy comes at you straight ahead, you'll have a huge advantage over them if you keep dodging. -Enemies always spawn together. On certain maps it's easy to abuse this. Take Burial Mounds for example, there are 5 or 6 spawns. Enemies never spawn near you. Use this information to your advantage: Enemies wont be in your "sector". If they're not in one sector then it's safe to assume they're in one of the others. So with this info you can abuse this. Make sure your team stays far away from a spawn point enough to keep the enemy spawning [if you go to close it's deemed unsafe and they spawn elsewhere]. Then kill at will. Cheap but hey, if you really need to win a match it could be vital. -The ideal set up [for me] is a Beam Rifle with a Sniper Rifle in secondary. This is because you can fire off two BR shots rapidly, then switch to the SR and if you miss with those 4 your BR will be cooled off. -The best camping spots are spots that protect at least 2 of your directions and give you a view of a certain side. It's always a good idea to stop every once in a while whilst moving to look at the surrounding area before you move on. -Containment is the biggest map to play on. The best way to take this map is to go around the side tunnels in a circle, killing as you go. Occasionally take some cover and scan the centre - most of the time there wont be anyone there. Most of the action takes place in the bases though. Be aware for pople trying to leave the match If you are ahead by 7 or 8 kills early on in the game you may consider waiting it out. My favourite place to do this is in one of the bases. Drop down onto the bottom level and make your way to one of the slopes. Instead of going up the slope to the second level go to the front wall, crouch and hide in the alcoves. -Grenades are great to surprise enemies. Nade em so their shields are down and shoot them once to kill them. That's all I can think of now. Most of my info is map specific, I dont know if you want that or not. --- Smoke. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: cooldude12w | Posted: 3/11/2006 4:23:12 PM | Message Detail On smaller maps, if your br is your secondary weopon, a shot from the sniper then switching to the br to get the headshot is a good way to win a firefight if your uncomfortable in small surrondings with the sniper. When in an sniper match, strafing from side to side is a good way to avoid getting "headshotted" and to stay on your toes as well. The sniper can change the tide of a game, dont waste the ammo, and dont go charging up to the enemy with it , unless your teamates are tehre to back you up. If you have the sniper, go for power-ups, and invisibil(sp) sniper in a big map is pure evil. The snipers melle appears to be a bit faster than most weapons melles, so dont be scared to get up close and personel with it! Dont no scope unless its ABSOULUTLY(sp) NECCESARRY! I've never been too good of a sniper, so I'll take all the tips I can get. However, I noticed you were missing a location of a sniper on Waterworks.
