Introduction -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jet Set Radio Future, or JSRF, is a great game, so great that I even named my FAQ response email account after it. It's all about how you go around in Tokyo, controlling a group of teenagers who spray graffiti to show rebelliousness, against the police and rival gangs. It's not as bad as it sounds, though, really. This was my first FAQ/walkthrough. I don't have the game anymore, so can't finish the Test Runs chapter or make a list of Graffiti Soul locations, unfortunately. But I still remember a good deal of the game, or have it noted down. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2. The map -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= During gameplay, you can press Start to get to the map screen, and, if you are at a save point, you can save the game and switch characters as well. The map is displayed to the left of the menu options. On it, various landforms and structures are displayed. You can rotate the map with the right trigger to see it from different angles and see the altitudes of things. In some areas, however, all is flatland and you can only view the map aerially. On the map, you are the yellow arrow. The arrow faces the direction you face. Small orange dots represent Graffiti Spots. Large red dots show Graffiti Souls. Large blue dots show a gang or person you should talk to, such as a fellow team member or a member of a rival team. Purple dots represent enemies, like the Rokkaku police. Spiky purple-and-white dots show an object, like a switch, you need to get to and spray. You can press the left or right trigger to view the list of areas and how to get to them, and press the left or right trigger again to get back to the normal screen. While viewing the list of areas, you can see what areas to go through to reach an area. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3. Moves -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There are a number of useful moves you can use while in the game to get past obstacles and do certain things. ~= Ram =~ Get back from your target and move the left thumbstick to the edge of the pad toward the target without pressing the thumbstick down. Then, without letting go of the thumbstick run into your target. This is the usual way to knock down enemies. ~= Grind =~ Just jump on a rail, staircase rail, telephone pole, telephone wire, or other grindable object, like pole, edge of pillar, etcetera. How fast you are moving depends on how fast you were moving before. ~= Shuffle =~ To do the shuffle, move the left thumbstick to walk around, and, while moving, press the left thumbstick down like you would push a button. Red sparks will come out from behind you and you will start moving slowly. You can do the shuffle while grinding, too, to slow down. To do a shuffle while grinding, press down the left thumbstick while grinding, and move the thumbstick back so that, if you weren’t grinding, you would reverse direction from going forward to going backward, to do a shuffle while grinding. ~= Boost Dash =~ Some enemies can be defeated only by boost dashing. If you have ten or more spray cans, just press B. You will need to time a boost dash and a jump correctly to get to some areas. ~= Spraying =~ When you have spray cans, press the right trigger to use them. You can defeat fallen enemies and spray over graffiti by doing this. ~= Continuous Spraying =~ This is a very valuable skill, especially in Tagger’s Tag battles. Stock up on spray cans, then go to your target and press and hold down the right trigger. You can spray large Graffiti Tags easily by doing this, moving along the line of Graffiti Tags as you spray continuously. ~= Locking On =~ Especially when doing a boost dash, if you are aiming at an enemy, it is helpful to be able to hit it with accuracy. Look in the direction of your enemy and a yellow marker should show up around it. If this does not happen, try moving closer to the enemy. Now press and hold the left trigger. The marker should turn from yellow to red. Now you can only face the enemy, making it easier for you to move in and attack. ~= Speeding Up While Grinding =~ While you are grinding a rail or another object, you may want to speed up. Do so by pressing X several times. ~= Getting Air =~ While going up the side of a halfpipe, while you are not grinding, that is, but going up from the center, if you time it right, you can jump and use the left thumbstick to aim, and you will go up very high in a jump. ~= Handplant =~ While going up the side of a pipe, press and hold X. When you reach the edge of the pipe and are about to start a grind, you will go up and stand on your hand. Now, you can zoom down and to the other side of the pipe, and, while going up the side, get some air by jumping and pressing the left thumbstick to move, you can go up extremely high, higher than in an ordinary halfpipe jump. ~= Wallride =~ You can ram into certain billboards, and you will slide to the side in a wallride. As you go faster than ordinary walking and running while wallriding, you can use this to your advantage in races. You can jump from a wallride, too. Jumping while wallriding is an important move in Rokkaku-dai Heights. ~= Skating Backwards =~ It’s not really an important move, but looks neat. While moving or grinding, press Y to turn around 180 degrees. You can press it again to return to normal. ~= Backflips =~ While grinding a telephone pole or a ladder, you can press A to jump back and do a backflip. This is an important move in the Fortified Residential Zone. ~= Grind Combo =~ A grind combo is one of the most important moves in the game. Not that it is necessary for moving around or defeating enemies -- it has no use like that. But, in order to complete each Street Challenge (see the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter), you need to do a specific amount of Grind Combos in each area. That amount will become clear once you get the Mystery Tape in that level (see the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter). It works like this. When you get a Mystery Tape, the contents of the Street Challenge in that level in the GG Notebook become clear. You will see that you need to do a certain number of Grind and Air Combos, and that you have to do other things as well. So you cannot complete a Street Challenge without doing both Grind and Air Combos. Also, you cannot run a level in a Test Run if its Street Challenge isn’t complete. When you complete a Street Challenge, a new Graffiti Soul appears. You need all the Graffiti Souls in the game to complete the game. Thus, you need to master and do both Grind and Air Combos to complete the game. They are fairly hard to do. While grinding, press X at a certain interval of time for as long as you can. 1 ... 2 ... 3. It’s all about the timing. If done correctly, you will do a Triple Grind Combo. And, of course, you can do better than that (a Quintuple Grind Combo, for example) depending on how many properly timed combos you can get before doing one incorrectly or ending the grind. ~= Air Combo =~ Air Combos, like Grind Combos, have no use during gameplay but are important. As with Grind Combos, you need to do specific number of them in each area to finish the Street Challenge (see the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter). Now, an Air Combo is pretty hard at first. You need to be moving fast, so you’ll probably have to grind a rail fast or something, then jump off, jamming the left thumbstick all the way forward. Your player should do a trick in midair automatically. Now, a moment after the trick has been done (remember that the first, automatic, trick counts towards the combo) press the X button to do another trick. You can time the pressing of X after a trick is done as you did in Grind Combos, too, so you can do Air Combos, like a Quadruple Air Combo. You must time it carefully between tricks, though, or the combo will be broken. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4. Graffiti -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= One of the main objects of the game is to spray all the Graffiti Tags in every area. You must also get all the Graffiti Souls to complete the game. During the game, you will be able to save at Graffiti Stops, also called save points. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Graffiti Spots and Graffiti Tags ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- When you enter an area, Graffiti Spots are marked by small orange dots on the map. There are several kinds of Graffiti Tags, each of which has a specific amount of Graffiti Spots to it. To spray over the tag, you must spray all the spots in it. The names of tags and the numbers of spots they have are listed below. SS = 1 spot S = 1 spot M = 3 spots L = 6 spots XL = 10 spots An area is cleared when you have sprayed over all the tags in it. There are times when you shouldn’t spray tags, however (see the Walkthrough). ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Graffiti Stops ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Aside from saving by talking to Roboy at the Garage, there has to be some otherway to save, right? Of course. In Dogenzaga Hill, near the exit of the sewer pipe, and fairly near the exit to the Garage, you will spot a three-spot Graffiti Tag. Go over to it and spray it, and DJ Professor K will explain about Graffiti Stops. Just press Start when a speech bubble pops up by a Graffiti Stop, and you can save, view the GG Notebook, or pick any character you currently have. There is at least one Graffiti Stop in every level, but you have to spray its three spots first. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Graffiti Souls ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- To complete the game, you have to get all the Graffiti Souls. Graffiti Souls are silvery trophy-like things. They show up as large red dots on the map. Certain events in the game won’t happen unless you have enough Graffiti Souls. You must have at least 25 Graffiti Souls for Rapid 99 to show up on 99th Street, for example, and you have to have at least 40 Graffiti Souls to get Clutch to tell you where Yoyo is. There are two kinds of Graffiti Souls. Some are there from the start of the game, and all you have to do is collect them. Others appear whenever you complete a Street Challenge. See the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter for more information on Street Challenges. To reach some Graffiti Souls, you must get to a certain point, boost dash, and do a jump just as you get to the edge of a cliff or a building or some other thing. For example, in Chuo Street, at the top of the large tower where you found Hayashi, you need to boost dash in the direction of the Graffiti Soul nearby to get it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5. Enemies -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= During the game, you will encounter various enemies you have to defeat. You have to use various strategies to defeat them. If an enemy jumps at you and grabs you (as the Rokkaku Police do), you can grind a rail or another grindable object or boost dash to escape. ~= Rokkaku Police: People =~ You will only encounter these guys when in battles. Just ram them (that is, run into them while going fairly fast) or boost dash them to knock them down, and spray them continuously (by pressing and holding down the right trigger) until their health bars show nothing when you’re near them and they’re down. They will also sometimes lunge at you and, if they miss, will fall over. You can also spray them then. ~= Rokkaku Police: Hayashi =~ Hayashi is a crazy Rokkaku Police inspector with a gun. He runs around stupidly and tries to destroy you. Destroy him the same way you destroy the ordinary Rokkaku Police. In some cases, however, such as when he is at the top of the tower in Chuo Street, you can boost dash or ram him off the edge of the platform to kill him. ~= Rokkaku Police: Tanks =~ You will only encounter these armored tanks when in battle, and only once in the game, on Chuo Street. Lock onto them and run up, and spray the graffiti on either side of the tank first, then finish the guy in the middle off by spraying him until his health bar falls to nothing. I thought tanks were supposed to be strong? ~= Rokkaku Police: Spotlights =~ These attackers only appear twice, on 99th Street. Run to the base, and grind up the pole to the top. Spray the spotlight there to defeat it. It might take a couple tries. Dodge the spotlights they train on you, or they will blast you. ~= Rokkaku Police: Armored People =~ You will only encounter these guys when in battles. Boost dash them to knock them down, and spray them continuously until their health bar shows nothing when you’re near them and they’re down. They will also sometimes lunge at you and, if they miss, will fall over. You can also spray them then. ~= Noise Tanks =~ To defeat the Noise Tank robots, just ram into them when running at a reasonably fast rate. If you jump or walk into them they will explode, hurting you too. ~= Golden Rhinos =~ You will encounter these guys both in and out of battle. That is, you will encounter them in areas where you have to battle them and escape routes are blocked off, and you can battle them in ordinary rooms where you can escape, like in the Fortified Residential Zone. They come in two forms, and both pack guns. One kind is a tall, shady looking guy, and another wears a brown bear suit for some reason. Both are destroyed the same way; just ram into them fast or boost dash them, and spray them continuously until their health bars register nothing while they’re down. ~= Rokkaku Police: Terror Drones =~ You will encounter these machines twice, in Hikage Street and in the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium, both times operated by Hayashi. To defeat them, grind up their legs and spray their Graffiti Spots, spraying continuously by pressing and holding down the right trigger when you have a spot in your sights. When all of the spots are gone, the drone will be destroyed. ~= Rokkaku Police and Golden Rhinos: Helicopters =~ Rokkaku Police in helicopters attack you in Kibogaoka Hill, and Golden Rhinos attack you in helicopters when you find Yoyo in the Fortified Residential Zone. To defeat them, just get up close and press and hold down the right trigger to fire paint at them continuously. Their health bars should drop down rapidly. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 6. Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In every area except the Garage, the Site of Tokyo Line, and the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium, press Start, and go on Read GG Notebook. You will, if you have not gotten a Mystery Tape, see the general mission here, which may be something like “Cover Dogenzaga Hill in Graffiti.” But, if you have collected a Mystery Tape, you can also see the Street Challenges that you have to perform here. There are 5 Street Challenges here for you to do; a Grind Combo, an Air Combo, a specific number of Tricks, a specific number of Points, and a special Street Challenge. No one knows who records the Mystery Tapes, but you need them to complete the game, or, to be more exact, you need the things they show you to complete the game. For each Street Challenge that is completed, a new Graffiti Soul will appear. You need all the Graffiti Souls in the game to complete the game. To complete a Street Challenge, you will have to do one of the things listed in the Street Challenge section for the current area in the GG Notebook. You might, for example, have to do a Decuple Grind Combo to complete one Street Challenge in an area. That means that you have to do ten tricks in a row and timed correctly while grinding without breaking the pattern or timing incorrectly. For each task done in the GG Notebook, a Street Challenge has been completed. When all Street Challenges in an area have been completed and all Graffiti Souls in that area have been collected, then the level can be run in Test Run mode. For more information on Grind and Air Combos, see the Moves chapter. Note that any Street Challenges you complete in an area when you don’t yet have the Mystery Tape in that area don’t count. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Mystery Tape Locations ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Dogenzaga Hill =~ It’s in the pit in the street near where you found Beat. ~= Shibuya Terminal =~ Grind the left rail on the left stairway near the Chuo Street exit that’s near the Graffiti Stop (there should be a parallel stairway to the first stairway’s right). When you see a pair of broken-off stairways ahead, jump to reach them. Grind down the left one, and go to the platform here (which is one of the places Poison Jam will run to after you talk to them) to find the tape. ~= Chuo Street =~ It’s right in between the giant lizard statue’s legs. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights =~ It’s in the warehouse with the two rail tracks. ~= 99th Street =~ It’s in the area beneath the double dragons of Benton Tower. ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ It’s in the middle of the bridge near the Graffiti Stop in the lowermost floor (the one you come to when you come from Rokkaku-dai Heights) with the spray cans. ~= Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility =~ It’s in the first room. ~= The Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ When you’re in Pharaoh Park, go down past the pyramid from the Graffiti Stop, heading towards Pharaoh Park and the Immortals’ coffins. You will be crossing a walkway with lots of Pharaohs on either side, with lights coming out of their eyes. Jump from either side of the walkway to land on a large mesh net. Go to the middle of the net and fall down the huge pit. At the bottom is the tape. You can get back up again using the ladder that is there. ~= Hikage Street =~ To get the tape, go to the gigantic room with the stairway in the western area of town, then turn to face the path out. Move forward to the exit, and you can choose to go left or right. Go right. A little ahead, you will see a room to the left. Jump into that room (you have to jump, because there is a small board at the bottom of the entrance that prevents you from walking in). The tape is there. ~= Kibogaoka Hill =~ Go to the area where Boogie appeared, a small valley of buildings. Go to the nearby Graffiti Stop, then look down into the area where Boogie appeared. Go down the stairway to the flatland below, which has a lot of oil drums on it. Go up the stairway ahead and to the left. Run forward, up the ramp, and jump onto the bottom wire of the set of telephone wires on the left side of the giant telephone pole ahead. It is vital that you land on the bottom wire, not any other wire. It will lead to a building’s roof. Go forward off the building, onto the platform. The tape is ahead and to the left on this platform, around some buildings. ~= Highway Zero =~ The tape is amongst all the food stands and telephone wires in the mall-like area. Ram into food stands until you find it. ~= Sky Dinosaurian Square =~ From the Graffiti Stop near the start of the level, go forward through the tunnel you see in front of you. Grind the rail ahead, which will lead to a red rail, the main rail in the level. Grind the red rail until, on your left, you see a large tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur with its mouth open and a Graffiti Soul on its head. After a minute, you will see a broken-off green rail that is momentarily parallel to your own rail to your left. Jump onto and grind it. You will grind it for a while, and it will lead to the back of a long diplodocus dinosaur, which you grind automatically. After you slide off the tail of the diplodocus, you will automatically land on the next green rail, so you don’t have to do anything at all for almost all of your grinding. A few minutes later, after grinding down a long slope in the rail, you will see a platform straight ahead with lots of blue spray cans and health cans. Jump onto it. The tape is on that platform. ~= The Fortified Residential Zone =~ Go to where you found Yoyo. You can use the methods in the Fortified Residential section of Chapter 7 of the Walkthrough to do this, or you can use the “Giant of Metal” to skip much of the journey. To find the “Giant of Metal” use the map to see the Fortified Residential Zone horizontally. On the second level up, there is a large pillar that has a rail on one side of it. This is the “Giant of Metal.” Once you are on the platform where Yoyo was, look around for a hole in the ground and fall down the chute beneath. You will land on a platform. Go down the hole here. You will land on another platform. Go down the hole here, and you will find yourself on the platform where the tape is. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Grind Combos ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- In each area, you have to do a specific number of tricks in a Grind Combo. If the assignment says “Grind Combo x 5”, for example, then you have to do a Quintuple Grind Combo. That means that you have to time it so that you do grinding tricks 5 times in a row without breaking the pattern or timing it incorrectly. You will probably want to use the X button rather than the Y button, since it’s faster. Look at Grind Combos in the Moves chapter for further information. Since Grind Combos are easy to do in every single area, I won’t be providing any information on what rails or pipes or telephone wires you might want to use. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Air Combos ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- There is a Street Challenge in which you have to do a specific number of Air Combos. If the assignment says “Air Combo x 4”, for example, then you have to do a Quadruple Air Combo. Namely, you have to time it so that you do Air tricks 5 times in a row without breaking the pattern or timing it incorrectly. You will want to use the X button rather than the Y button, since it’s faster. See Air Combos in the Moves chapter. There are a few levels where it’s actually a little difficult to find a good place to jump off and do Air Combos. So, for the levels that I find kind of hard to find a place for, here is my advice: ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ You can do this from one of the upper floors in the level, but you can actually do it a lot sooner. Coming from the Rokkaku-dai Heights exit, you will see the abyss where you fell in and Garam rescued you. Grind down the metal pillar here, and grind up the other one. Turn back around, run up to the horizontal pillar you just came from, jump onto it, and, at just the right time, jump off and do your Air Combo. It will take a few tries, but remember that your first, automatic, trick counts towards the combo. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ It’s actually pretty hard to find a place to jump off from here, since you have to land in order for the combo to count. Go up to the Graffiti Stop near the start, go down the pyramid, turn around, go back up, jump onto the platform, stand between the two blue poles, jump onto the left one, and grind it up the pillar. At the end, jump off to the ramps ahead. Run up the first ramp and jump off. While in the air, move to the left a bit and do your Air Combo. Land on the mesh net below. ~= Highway Zero =~ There are a number of places this can be done, including the drop after you wallride the high billboard to your right after going through the area with a lot of blue pipes and the six billboards, but you can just do this near the start of the level. Go along the road from the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park exit, jump off to the right at the gap in the wall, and find the telephone pole back up. Grind it to near the top, and jump off, going right and doing an Air Combo. ~= Sky Dinosaurian Square =~ This is actually very hard, as the whole level is full of places to jump off and do the combo, but there aren’t many landing places. Here is what I recommend. From the Graffiti Stop near the start, go ahead through the short tunnel. Grind the rail ahead, which leads to the main red rail. Grind it until you see the giant tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur statue to your left and are going up a slope. You will soon see a broken-off green rail that is for a while parallel to your red rail on your left. Jump onto and grind it. It will lead to the long diplodocus’s back. After grinding that, it will automatically transfer you to a green rail. On this rail, wait until it turns left and goes into a long downward slope, then jump off, do your Air Combo, and land on it at the bottom. This is pretty tricky, and there are probably easier ways to do the challenge. Note that you can also, for a slightly easier version, jump off the green rail a few moments before it slopes down, just past the swinging platforms on your left, and, while jumping, head left to rejoin the rail at the bottom. ~= Fortified Residential Zone =~ The easiest way to get this is, of course, from where Yoyo was. But it takes a long time to get up there. Here is an easier way than the normal path. Look at your map horizontally. You will see that there appear to be several different levels. Go to the bottom floor of the second level. Look around for a large, very tall pillar. On one side of it is a rail. Grind up this, which is called the “Giant of Metal.” It leads to the place where Yoyo was. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Tricks ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- In each area you have to do a certain number of tricks in a row to do some kind of a specified combo. They can either be Grind Combos or Air Combos. When doing either Grind or Air Combos, it is likely that you will want to use the X button, as it’s faster. Grind Combos are easier and faster, and there are usually a lot more places where large ones can be done. For example, say that there is “Tricks x 30”. That means you have to do thirty tricks in a row in a combo without breaking the pattern or timing a trick incorrectly. That is hardly feasible with an Air Combo, so you will have to do a Grind Combo. When doing a Grind Combo, speed doesn’t matter. Hold the left thumbstick back while doing a Grind Combo to go more slowly, allowing you more time to do the combo before the rail ends. Note that, every time you do a wallride, you automatically do a trick. There are a few areas, however, where you have to link Grind and Air Combos. For example, you grind a rail along the edge of a platform, doing a Grind Combo, jump off the rail and go over the platform, do an Air Combo, land on a telephone wire, do a Grind Combo, etcetera. Remember that your number of tricks done successively is not reset when you land; it’s only reset when you don’t time a combo right or wait too long between combos. Two examples of places where you have to combine Grind and Air Combos are Highway Zero and the Fortified Residential Zone. Here is my advice on doing some of the more difficult challenges: ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ This can actually be done in quite a lot of places, but the easiest way is to use the rail near the top of the stage. I don’t mean the rail that goes down into the capsule. I mean the rail that surrounds the capsule at the top. Go to the third Graffiti Stop, Go down the walkway and enter the halfpipe ahead, near the top of the stairs. Grind the spiral inside. When you get out, turn right and enter the next halfpipe, which is to the right at the end of the walkway. At the end of this, there is a rail on either side of you, actually both parts of the same rail. This is the rail I mean. ~= Kibogaoka Hill =~ From the Graffiti Stop near where Boogie appeared, go down the metal stairway to the flat area with oil drums. Go up the stairway ahead and to the left. At the top, run up the ramp, jump to the telephone wires ahead, grind one, and do the Grind Combo. There are other places where this can be done fairly easily, too, including the two long telephone wires near the start of the level. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ You can do this in the net under the Pharaoh Park area. From the Pharaoh, go down the walkway with the giant Pharaoh statues that leads to the pyramid leading to the Graffiti Stop. While walking down this walkway, simply jump off either side to land on the net. You can also do this at the “Sphere Tower” (see the Special Objects and Places chapter), too, but this place is much more accessible. ~= Highway Zero =~ This is quite difficult. You will actually have to go through most of the level to get this combo. From the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park exit, go forward, and drop right down the hole in the wall. Head down the highway, going right, until you see rails on your left. Jump onto the first one, and start a Grind Combo. Whenever you get to a gap in your rail, jump to the rail ahead, doing a short Air Combo while jumping so the trick counter doesn’t reset itself. When you see the billboards ahead, jump onto the first one, wallride it, jump onto the next one, wallride it, jump to the next one, etcetera. Each wall ride counts as a trick. After jumping off the last one, while in the air, do and Air Combo and head left and land on the rail here. This takes practice. Grind up the telephone pole the rail leads to, doing a Grind Combo. At the end of the wire, jump to another wire, doing an Air Combo, do a Grind Combo when you’re on the wire, and so on. At the end of the area, jump forward from your current wire onto the blue horizontal pipes ahead. Do an Air Combo. When you land on one of the pipes (note that, if you’re fast, you can do an Air Combo while jumping to the pipes, land next to a pipe, jump onto it, and continue with a Grind Combo without resetting your trick counter), do a Grind Combo. At the end of a pipe, jump to the next, doing an Air Combo, grind the next pipe doing a Grind Combo, etcetera. This cycle goes on for quite a while and will, in all probability, last until you see the six-billboard area ahead. Wallride the billboards, which count as tricks. Keep going until all the tricks are done. This is almost certainly the most difficult Tricks challenge. ~= Fortified Residential Zone =~ As with Highway Zero, you have to do Grind and Air Combos to complete this. The “Giant of Metal” (see the Special Objects and Places chapter) is only long enough for roughly 50 tricks, half the amount needed. Like most others, I do this challenge on the floor of the bottom level, which is where you come out when you have just come from the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. Grind the proper rail of a stairway (depending on which way the stairway’s walkway points, right or left, one of the rails of the stairway will continue along the walkway, whereas the other will cut off), and start a Grind Combo. At the end, jump to the ladder ahead, doing an Air trick. Continue up the ladder, doing Grind tricks. When near the top, press A to do a backflip off, land on the rail of the walkway behind you, do a Grind Combo, jump to the ladder ahead, do an Air trick, land on the ladder, grind up, doing a Grind Combo. You can do a backflip while on the last ladder up to land back on to rail you were last on and continue the cycle, only this time going down. This is quite hard. Here's an alternate strategy for the Fortified Residential Zone Tricks challenge by The Dude. Thanks, The Dude! "Hey, I noticed you had a short part that was supposed to be extremely hard in the fortified residential zone. The part of it where you are supposed to do an impossible amount of tricks, you said it was doable by the 'metal giant' for 50 tricks or so, about half of what was needed. I have found that if you jump on at a slow or full speed and keep doing x button tricks until DJ professor k says some remark about your skill, stop doing tricks and pull back on the left stick. You'll slow down and start going backwards slowly after you pause on the rail. When you go down a little bit, still on the rail, hit x a few times to scoot up the 'giant of metal'. Keep sliding down and doing x tricks to get scooted back into place until the number of tricks is satisfied and the soul appears. If you get to the top of the giant of metal, you can't get back down and have this work, might as well start over at the bottom. Don't ever jump off either, there will be no air tricks at that slow of a speed." ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Points ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- When you do a combo and keep on doing tricks and building onto the combo, the amount of points for that combo rises. You have to be going fast enough for the points to rise. When an amount of points you get for any combo (Grind or Air) rises to the specified amount, then that has been achieved. If you break the combo, then the point value goes back to nothing. You will probably want to use the Y button to do the tricks. There are specific rails in each level which, when you grind them and do tricks, give a lot (a LOT) more points than normal rails. They aren’t marked or anything, they just give a lot more points. Here are the rails and jump-off locations (to do Air Combos) I use to complete the Points Street Challenges in each level. I will refer to these special rails as “point rails,” or “bonus rails.” If they are telephone wires, I will instead call them “point wires” or “bonus wires.” If they are pipes, then they will be called “point pipes” or “bonus pipes.” It’s better to use the Y button to do tricks, as it gives more points. Whenever you wall ride a billboard or slimy wall (such as in the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility), you do a trick automatically. With some billboards or slimy walls, they’re “point billboards” or “point walls.” When grinding a point rail, wire, or pipe, you will see a number pop up on the screen, followed by an “x”. If this number is 500, then you’re on a point rail, wire, pipe, billboard (or slimy wall), or are ready to do an Air trick. That number, in fact, shows the points you would get if you did a trick now. ~= Dogenzaga Hill =~ Come from the Garage exit, and go on the right side of the road until you find a rail here. This is a point rail. There is another point rail parallel to this one on the left side of the road. ~= Shibuya Terminal =~ Near the Dogenzaga Hill exit, look for the circular rail. This is quite long, and is a point rail. ~= Chuo Street =~ From the Graffiti Stop, continue along the path through the level. You will see a split of the road, one half going downhill, the other uphill. In between them is a high rail. This is a point rail. Since the Y button gives more points, you might want to use that to do the Grind Combo. The telephone wire above is a point wire, too. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights =~ Most or all of the telephone wires within quite a ways from the start of the level (near the Garage exit) are point wires. ~= 99th Street =~ In the Benton Tower area, with the two dragons, one of the dragons has its face down to the ground, with some fake-looking fire coming out. Jump onto this dragon’s head to grind up. Its body is a point rail. ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ Most or all of the point rails in this level are near the top of the level. Some of the large blue pipes near the third Graffiti Stop are point pipes. Some of the rails near them are point rails. However, the best or maybe even only way to do this is as follows. From the third Graffiti Stop, go down the walkway and enter the first halfpipe you come to, which will be near the top of the stairs. Grind the spiral inside. When you get out of the halfpipe, turn right onto the small walkway here, then, at the end, turn right into the halfpipe here. Grind the spiral that is inside. When you come out you will see rails on either side of you. These two rails are actually part of one large rail, which is a point rail. Using the Y button to do a Grind Combo, you can complete both the Points and Special Street Challenges on this rail. ~= Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility =~ The red and blue pipes that appear in several places in the level are all point pipes. Use the red ones, though, as the blue ones all have gaps in them. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ The only place where I’ve found I can do this is at the “Sphere Tower” (see Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park under the Special Objects and Places chapter). You’ll have to use the Y button to do the combos. The blue rails that lead to the top are all or mostly point rails, but they aren’t long enough, so you’ll have to jump off at the end and finish it with an Air Combo and have to try to land someplace. Also, apparently the brown rails that are around the Pharaoh are also point rails. ~= Hikage Street =~ All of the rails composing the giant stairway and the cranes nearby in the huge eastern room are point rails. You’ll have to do the Grind Combo quickly, using the Y button, as there are gaps in the stairway. Here is the way to do this. Start out near the bottom of the stairway, run up to it, and grind the stairway. Immediately start the Grind Combo using the Y button, and continue the combo until you are just about to reach the gap in the stairway a while later. By the time you reach the gap, the points for the combo should have reached almost the needed amount. When you are close to the gap, jump high and do an Air Combo using the Y button. Turn right and go up the stairway here. Go forward and turn right at the end. Run up the ramp and jump onto one of the wires ahead that are all on top of each other. This should be a point wire. If it isn’t, jump up onto the one above it until you reach a point wire. ~= Highway Zero =~ In the mall-like area, the first telephone pole on the left, which has a rail leading to it, has a wire that is both long and a point wire. Some of the other wires in this area are point wires, too. Here’s a strategy that I use. I run up to the first telephone pole on the left, the one with the rail leading to it. I jump onto the rail, and instantly start doing a Grind Combo with the Y button. I keep at it until the end of the wire, where I jump off and finish it with an Air Combo, again using the Y button. ~= Sky Dinosaurian Square =~ All the green rails here are point rails. ~= Fortified Residential Zone =~ The metal rail-like metal parts on the bottoms of the first and second levels shown on the map (the levels are shown, not the metal parts) when viewed horizontally are mostly point rails. Several of them are long enough to complete the challenge. The one I always use is the long metal part rail to the left of the dark red “symbol/2” sign on the bottom level. Here's a strategy from The Dude about the Fortified Residential Zone Points challenge: "There is a second gg notebook challenge that you have to satisfy a 50000 point score. At the entrance to the fortified residential zone, across the way on the same level there is a stairway. It has a point rail on one of the two sides to the stair/platform. Jump on to it at full speed, use y button tricks until the end of that very rail, and jump off, not to the ladder, but to the floor. While in the air, do as many x tricks as possible (or y, I can't remember) until you hit the ground. It should work up enough points to satisfy the gg notebook challenge." ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Special Street Challenges ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- You have to do special Street Challenges in the GG Notebook in addition to the Grind Combos, Air Combos, Tricks, and Points. Here are the tasks that must be done in each level: ~= Dogenzaga Hill: Avenue, Long Grind =~ From the Garage exit, go forward until you get to some rails on the left side of the street. Grind the first one, then at the end of the grind, jump to the next one. Keep doing this until you have grinded all three rails here. Skate off at the end of the last rail, don’t jump. ~= Shibuya Terminal: Platform of '(east symbol)' x 13, not to fall down =~ You need to get onto the 13 green elevated platforms and the one gray one slanted like a rooftop one by one without touching the ground. You can grind the rails and so on, though. Note that you cannot go on ramps or it will not qualify. ~= Chuo Street: G->W->G->W->... reach for the sewer =~ While racing Poison Jam, note that, in the area a bit after the jumping across rivers and before you enter the sewer halfpipe, they grind a rail, jump to the next billboard, wallride it, and land on and grind the rail ahead continuously. Start with the first handrail you come to after the blue-building mall area, and grind and wall ride all the way to the end. Skate off at the end, don’t jump. If fact, whenever I so much as move when the last grind ends, it won’t work, so don’t do anything at all when you skate off the last rail. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights: Chimney #1, grind =~ Go from the Graffiti Stop near the Garage exit up the stairs, then go on through the path and up the next flight of stairs. Go along the path until you reach a fork. Turn left at the fork. Ahead you will see a spiral staircase. Grind its right rail. Just sit and watch, as you go across a telephone line, and up a long chimney. You will by default do a backflip at the top of the chimney. ~= 99th Street: (east symbol), (south symbol), (west symbol), (north symbol), (east symbol) gates, grind =~ One of the gates in the Benton Tower section of town has an East symbol on it. Go to that gate. Grind the rail to the right of it, then go all across the rails here, jumping from one to the next and jumping over the gaps, until you arrive back at the East Gate. Skate off (don’t jump) to complete the challenge. To see what the east symbol looks like, go on Read GG Notebook in your Pause menu, and look at the symbol you see to the left of the other symbols under the Special Challenge section of the Street Challenges. ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility: 150000 =~ Just get this amount of Points in some combo. Here is an easy way to do this. Using the Y button to do a Grind Combo, you can complete both the Points and Special Street Challenges fairly easily. ~= Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility: 70000 =~ This is another Point task. Use the red and blue pipes (I would use the red ones, though, as the blue ones all have gaps) that appear in several places in the level. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park: Go circle around Pharaoh =~ You need to grind the blue rails circling the central Pharaoh in Pharaoh Park. The tricky part is that there is a gap in between the rails that seems too big to jump across. You can grind the bench ahead, then jump to the next rail to do it. This challenge almost never works for me, but it seems to work anyway if I just go around for long enough. ~= Hikage Street: Overpass w/a crane, G, Ground, Top, Ground =~ Go to the eastern giant room, with the green crane. Grind up it, land on the stairway rails, and go all the way up the stairs and let yourself do anything you do automatically. Skate off the bottom of the stairway, don’t jump. An easier way to do this is to grind up the left rail of the stairway, get to the top, loop back, let yourself fall down the first gap you come to, and let yourself land on the stairway, going down. Grind all the way down the stairway, and skate off the end, don’t jump. For some reason this never works for me, as, whenever I fall down the gap, I end up looping back up. But, if I jump off and land, it sometimes works anyway (???). ~= Kibogaoka Hill: Gate of ’ (several symbols)’ =~ Go to the Graffiti Stop near where Boogie appeared. Go down the stairs into the area below, with a lot of oil drums. Grind to the stairway ahead and to the left. Turn right and go up the stairway here. At the top, go forward and turn right at the end. Run up the ramp ahead, jump, and land on the telephone wires ahead. Jump up from wire to wire until you reach the top wire. Grind the wire and let yourself slide off at the end. Walk forward through the gate in front of you. ~= Highway Zero: W->W->W->W->W->W =~ When you reach the area where you see six billboards ahead (there is also an area like this with fewer billboards, just before the mall-like area, but that isn’t it), grind the rail before them then jump on the first billboard and wallride it. Jump off the billboard when it’s almost done onto the next one, wallride that, and jump to the next one until you have done all of them. When you get off the last billboard, don’t jump -- just slide off. ~= Sky Dinosaurian Square: Rail -> Swinging Ride -> Rail =~ From the Graffiti Stop near the start of the level, go forward through the tunnel you see in front of you. After you slide off the tail of the diplodocus, you will automatically land on the next green rail. There’s a ride you will pass on your left in a moment of two platforms whichswing back and forth. Grind your rail to the swinging platforms, jump onto and ride one of them, then, when the platform you’re on swings back to the green rail you were on, slide back onto that rail (it won’t work if you jump back onto the rail). ~= The Fortified Residential Zone: Giant of metal, grind up =~ Use the map to see the Fortified Residential Zone horizontally. You will see that there are different levels. On the second level up, there is a large pillar that has a rail on one side of it (you can’t see the pillar on the map). This is the “Giant of Metal” and all you have to do is grind up it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 7. Battles and Contests -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There are several contests that you will have with rivals during the game, whether you are playing the ordinary game or are playing in VS mode. At the end of each contest, if you win, your rival will either join you, or something else will happen. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- City Rush ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- This is a plain one-lap race to the finish line. You may race one or more rivals. You have to beat all of them to the target. You have to race all around an area, taking the route the map shows at the start of the race. You will play this a number of times in the game, the first being a race against Beat in Dogenzaga Hill. Strategy: Before competing in a City Rush, go around the area you must race across in a non-race, going as fast as you can. Practice a lot so you get used to the area, and look for shortcuts. In the Chuo Street race, for example, a major shortcut is, after passing all the rails and billboards and coming to the halfpipe, instead of going through the halfpipe, taking the alleyway right before its entrance. Strategy: Use grindable objects, ways down hills that are faster than just going down the hill path (like in Dogenzaga Hill), billboards, and tall buildings to your advantage. When you wallride a billboard, for example, you go faster than normal running, so you can use this to your advantage. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Follow-the-Leader ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- This isn’t an official kind of challenge, and it only happens once, when you meet Combo in Shibuya Terminal. You have to do exactly as he does without falling down. Talk to him and he will repeat what he did as many times as you like. Strategy: You will often be forced to jump just as you get around a corner. The very second you round the corner, jam the left thumbstick forward and jump as high as you can. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Capture the Flag ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- In this race, flags appear one after another. When someone gets the first flag, the second appears. This goes on until all the flags are gone. At the end, the person with the most flags wins. Ties do not count as victories. Strategy: When playing with computer opponents, follow them the first time round to see where they go to get the flags, as they always appear in the same places and you can choose to retry the battle again and again. If you find that you can’t get to the flag, even when you know its location, you can just skip it and go on to the place where you know where the future site of the next flag is. Strategy: If you are ahead of your rivals in the race to a flag, reach the flag and wait until they are quite nearby. Then grab the flag and hurriedly race on to the next one. This allows you to sometimes get ahead of them. Strategy: As a new flag appears, press Start to view the map. Find your route to the flag exactly, and follow it. If you need to consult it again while going to the flag, do so. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Tagger’s Tag ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- You will play Tagger’s Tag a lot in this game, so you have to become skilled at it. Your first game of it will be with Poison Jam. The object is to defeat your opponents one-by-one until only you remain. You can momentarily slow down your enemies by ramming into them from behind or boost dashing them from behind. Tag out your enemies by spraying them from behind when their health bars pop up. Strategy: When you can, don’t waste time boost dashing. You can, however, knock an opponent off-course for a moment by boost dashing them from behind. Strategy: When you do boost dash enemies, lock onto them first. Strategy: Stock up on spray cans and get behind an enemy. When its health bar pops up, press and hold down the right trigger to spray continuously, and keep right behind them. Their health bars will drop down very rapidly, giving you a chance for an easy win. Strategy: Sometimes, enemies for no reason duck into a small hiding place and won’t ever get out. If one of your enemies that you haven’t beaten stays in the same place for a long time on the map, then he or she might have done this. Try to find him or her, and defeat the enemy easily. Strategy: Enemies often just follow the same path over and over. Get to a place in that path, and wait for them to pass by. Jump out to right behind them and defeat them easily by spraying continuously when their health bars pop up on the screen. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Ball Hog/Death Ball ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- In this game, the object, as DJ Professor K says, is to get the ball, and do one full race around the area without dropping the ball or letting a rival get it. The first time you play this game is in the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium, and you play it three times there. Strategy: As you did in the City Rush, use grindable objects, billboards, halfpipes, and other things that are helpful to your advantage. You can wallride a billboard past an opponent, for example, or get some air on a half pipe to jump up onto a higher platform. And you can get some air on a halfpipe to jump out of the way of enemies. Tip: When you hold the ball, you can’t boost dash, so don’t try. Strategy: If you’re playing with a computer-controlled game character as your teammate, like Jazz in the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium, you will probably want to keep the ball to yourself for most or all of the game. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 8. Special Objects and Places -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In several levels, there are some noticeable objects or places that I may refer to in this FAQ and that can be used as landmarks to find things. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chuo Street ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- The tall tower near the Graffiti Stop near the intersection of the roads leading to different exits to Shibuya Terminal is a landmark. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Rokkaku-dai Heights ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- From the Graffiti Stop near the Garage exit, go up the stairs. Continue along until you get to a fork. Go right. A little ahead and to the left is a warehouse with two mine tracks. This warehouse will be referred to a lot. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 99th Street ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- The double dragon tower in the center of town is Benton Tower, in the middle of the main area of 99th Street. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Use the map to view the level horizontally. You will notice a gigantic structure that looks like a tower. This isn’t a main area, but you have to come here to get a Graffiti Soul. From the second Graffiti Stop, go left at the fork in the walkway. Go down the stairs, then turn right. Go into the first halfpipe on the left you come to. Grind the spiral inside. At the end, you will find yourself beneath the tower. If you guessed it, that’s right -- you’re going to have to wallride the slimy walls. First, jump onto and wall ride the wall on the left from the passage you came from. Going right, near the end of the wallride, jump onto the wall ahead and wallride it. When you get to the next wall, you will hopefully have gotten high enough so that you go over the exit and onto the wall above it. Keep on wallriding until you reach a platform. Turn around, and once again wall ride the wall to the left. Keep going up until you get to the next platform. Rest here, turn around, and wall ride the wall to the left again. When you reach the third platform, you will be at the top of the tower. This gets quite hard as you get further and further up, as there get to be a lot of obstacles. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- From the start, cross the room and grind the right blue pipe that goes on from a long while. At the end, jump onto the mesh platforms ahead and continue along them until you reach the end. After you get out of the halfpipe, go along the walkway ahead and enter the next halfpipe, which slopes down. At the end, go along the walkway and enter the next halfpipe. Above you will now be a narrow mesh platform which extends for much of the level. You can jump onto part of it by grinding the left side of the half pipe now and jumping onto it, and in later halfpipes you can do a handplant halfpipe jump to get onto it. A lot of this level’s Graffiti Souls are on this long mesh platform. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- There is the central Pharaoh in the level, down the walkway from the Graffiti Stop. That is the center of Pharaoh Park. Two important objects in this level are the two parallel horizontal blue poles next to the Graffiti Stop near the start, as they lead to the whole of the Skyscraper District. The most noticeable landmark is the “Sphere Tower,” the giant tower that is apparent on the map when the map is viewed horizontally. To get there, from the Graffiti Stop, go down the pyramid. Go back up, jumping at the top, and land in between two blue poles. Jump onto and grind the one on the right. It will lead up the pillar. At the end jump forward and land on the satellite dish. Follow the trail of spray cans on the dish that leads right, and jump off the dish the same way you would a ramp. This leads to a chain of dishes. Jump from one to the next. When you jump off the last one, land on the right side of the dark brown beam just ahead of you. Jump to the light beam at the end of your beam. Continue jumping from one beam to the next until you see a horizontal beam ahead that has a vertical beam just to the left of it, and is actually part of that beam. When you land on the horizontal beam that joins to the vertical one, let yourself automatically grind up the vertical beam. It leads to a rooftop. On the rooftop, wait until the crane on the left holding up a small platform swings near, then jump onto that platform. When it swings to another rooftop and stops, jump off and head right. You will see a lone light-colored beam ahead of you. Grind it to the top. You have reached the “Sphere Tower.” ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Hikage Street ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Note the three giant rooms marked on the map. In each of these rooms there is a giant staircase. These rooms are generally referred to as the “east room,” “west room,” and “north room.” ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Kibogaoka Hill ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- From the Graffiti Stop near where you found Boogie, go down the stairway to the flatland with a lot of oil drums. If you go up the stairway ahead and to the right you will see a ramp ahead. If you run up and jump off it you can land on the telephone wires of the giant telephone pole ahead. You can get onto the wires of the other giant telephone pole in the area by going up that stairway the same way, but not running up this ramp and jumping off, but rather turning right at the top, going up this stairway, going along the walkway to the end, turning right, running up the ramp ahead, and jumping forward to the telephone wires. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Highway Zero ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Note the mall-like area with the long telephone wires that are mostly or all point wires (see the Mystery Tapes and Street Challenges chapter), and also note the area a bit later on with the six billboards. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Fortified Residential Zone ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Use the map horizontally to see that there are basically different levels to the Fortified Residential Zone. Go to the floor of the second level. You will see a large, tall pillar around here. One side of it has a long rail that leads to the place where Yoyo was before you rescued him. This is the “Giant of Metal.” -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 9. Walkthrough -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 1 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ You will start out as Yoyo, who has come to join the GG's. First, you will talk to Corn, who will tell you to find Gum, who is near the pinball machine. Walk around until you find her, and press the right trigger to talk when a speech bubble pops up. She will teach you some of the basic moves and stuff, and tell you to talk to Roboy. When you talk to Roboy, you can save the game or pick any character or learn basic moves and graffiti and battles, as well as do many other things. Save and chat to your teammates if you want (you can talk with them at almost any time, just come to the Garage; sometimes they will give you helpful advice), then go to the only unlocked area, Dogenzaga Hill. To find it, press Start and see the map. ~= Dogenzaga Hill =~ Here, your mission is what you will be doing for much of the game, covering up graffiti made by rivals. When you reach the area at the end of the halfpipe near the exit to the Garage, DJ Professor K will tell you about save points, see the Graffiti Stop section of the Graffiti chapter. To find the graffiti, look at your map and go to the small orange dots (see the The Map chapter for more information on finding things with the map) and spray the Graffiti Tags when you get up close. They come in a variety of sizes, each with a certain number of tags. See the Graffiti chapter for more on graffiti. When you spray all the graffiti and there are no more orange dots, you will see a scene in which Beat shows up. You can locate him by going to the blue dot that is now on the map. When you find him, talk to him and he will run away. Follow him (you don’t need to take the exact path he takes). He will do this a couple of times, then he will challenge you to a race of City Rush. I advise you to save at a save point before accepting the challenge. Use the tips and strategies in the City Rush section of the Battles and Contests chapter to see how to win. During the race, several times you will have to descend hills. Instead of going down them, dash through the boxes stacked up at the top of the hill at the end of the fence and fall down the hill, or jump on the fence and jump down to get ahead of Beat. After you beat him, Beat will join the GG's. After he does this, the Rokkaku Police will show up and Beat will skate over to the Garage. Use the techniques described under the Rokkaku Police People section of the Enemies chapter to beat them. Basically, just ram them at a fast pace to knock them over, then spray them continuously when you’re near them. If you didn’t spray them enough to finish their health bars while they were down, they will get up a moment later. If one jumps at you and grabs you, you can either grind something or boost dash to escape. After you defeat all the Rokkaku Police, DJ Professor K will come on the radio and tell you to go to Shibuya Terminal. Go to the save point (Graffiti Stop), save, and go to the Garage. ~= Garage =~ Roboy has some new moves for you. Learn them, then go to Shibuya Terminal. Its exit is near the Dogenzaga Hill exit. ~= Shibuya Terminal =~ Once again, you must cover up the graffiti. This graffiti has been made by a rival gang known as Poison Jam. Use the map to help you find the graffiti. Here, you will have to use the staircases a lot. Once you get all the graffiti, three Poison Jam members will show up. Go to them, using the map to locate them, and talk to them. As Beat did, they will run away a few times before actually talking to you. When they run away, just follow them and talk to them again. Finally, just as they are going to talk to you, Combo shows up. Poison Jam will run away. Find Combo, and talk to him. He sees all of Poison Jam’s ugly graffiti, thinks you sprayed it, and will challenge you to do exactly as he does. See Follow-the-Leader in the Battles and Contests chapter for further information. When you do as he does correctly, he will realize that you didn’t spray the graffiti, and decides to join you. Once again, the Rokkaku Police show up. Combo will skate off to the Garage. There are a lot more Rokkaku Police this time, and Hayashi, an inspector with a gun, is with them. Use traditional ram-and-spray techniques to defeat the normal cops, and then do the same thing to Hayashi. But he has a larger health bar, and it’ll take more sprays to knock him out. Ram him to knock him over, and spray continuously when you’re near him by pressing and holding the right trigger until his health is gone. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 2 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ Roboy will call to you, so go over to him. Save the game and go on the basic training sessions option. He has a few new techniques for you to learn. You can talk to the other GG's if you want, then go to Chuo Street. As you can see from the map screen (when at the map screen, press the left or right trigger to view the list of areas and how to get to them), you get to Chuo Street by going through Shibuya Terminal. So head off to Shibuya Terminal, and, from there, go to Chuo Street. ~= Chuo Street =~ When you enter, Hayashi and some other Rokkaku Police officers will have a discussion over the radio. As you can hear, they’re sending in some tanks to deal with you. Skate around until they spot you and you enter a battle. DJ Professor K will tell you how to deal with them, and you can look under Rokkaku Police Tanks in the Enemies chapter to see how again. After you have beaten them, which may take a couple tries (if your health gets low, just grab one of the many health cans, wait a few minutes, and it will reappear), Hayashi will appear on a rooftop and insult you. You can either go through a set of glass doors you will find in a restaurant in town and get thrown to the stairway or just go up to the stairway yourself, but, somewhere near the place where there is a large restaurant with lots of large glass windows in town, a little ways away from the main road fork, there is a building, and next to it is a tall stairway. Go up it, and there is Hayashi. You can either knock him out the same way you did in Shibuya Terminal, or you can take the shortcut, just knocking him off the roof. If you fall off the roof yourself, you won’t be hurt. Once you have dealt with the Rokkaku Police, spray all the Graffiti Tags. When you are done, Poison Jam will show up near the area where the gigantic lizard is. Save before you talk to them (there is a save point near the place where the tall tower where you dealt with Hayashi is). When you do talk to them, they will challenge you to a City Rush around Chuo Street. I recommend you go all around Chuo Street and explore the area before you accept. After you have practiced a little, accept the challenge. Go down the main road, taking the same road the Poison Jam guys are taking. When you get to the point where you have to go up a telephone pole and jump to a rooftop, go on until you are near the edge of the platform, jump while running, and jump over the rivers a little ways ahead as well, and you should be able to clear them. At the next turning, where there is a sort of car ramp to your left, go up it, then through the maze of buildings. After you have passed the area where there are lots of railways and billboards a bit later, you will see the sewer halfpipe ahead. Don’t go in there, though. Take a major shortcut by instead turning left into the alley to the side. After you go through there, with the logs and fences, you will come to a long wooden rail which you grind. Come out, and you will be near the place where you started the race. If you came out ahead of all three Poison Jam guys, you win! If you lost, you can retry the race. If you won, the Poison Jam members refuse to give up, and go off to Rokkaku-dai Heights. Save, go back to the Garage, and head over to Rokkaku-dai Heights. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights =~ This is the hardest level in the earlier parts of the game. Spray the Graffiti Stop and gather some spray cans, then go up the first rail you find, which is on the steps near the Graffiti Stop. Here, you should find a Poison Jam member. Note that you have to have defeated Poison Jam in Chuo Street for him to appear here. Talk to him. He will run away. Follow him. This happens a couple times, until all three Poison Jam members crash through a warehouse with double rail tracks which was blocked up before. Follow them to the warehouse. When you get there, jump on a slanted telephone pole that is there, grind for a moment, then jump as far as you can to the right to land on the top of the warehouse. Talk to Rhyth. She will run away a few times, and, as always, you have to follow her. Finally, she’ll join the GG's. Go through the warehouse, and battle the Rokkaku Police that are here. After you defeat them, find the Poison Jam guys again, talk to them, and they will run away again, grinding and wallriding. To follow them, jump up the slanted telephone pole they jumped on, jump as you come to an end of the line to wallride the billboard, fall down to the next line, wallride again, and drop down to the pipe. Then jump onto the platform ahead. Talk to them just one more time, and, this time, they will leave the area. Now, you have to spray all the graffiti. The area where you now are, after grinding and wallriding to follow Poison Jam, is actually a place where much of the graffiti in this level is. We will come back here later. Most of the graffiti in the level are easily sprayed. When you have sprayed almost all of them, go around until you find the area where that person is feeding hundreds of crows, near the statue of Gouji Rokkaku’s ancestor. Jump up the slanted telephone pole, jump as you come to an end of the line to wallride the billboard, fall down to the next line, wallride again, and drop down to the pipe. Then jump onto the platform ahead of you. This is the place where you found Poison Jam the last time. There are some Graffiti Tags around here, so spray them. Go on until you find some metal stairs, and move to the other side of them. You will find some Rokkaku Police here, and also some armored cops. See the Rokkaku Police Armored People section of the Enemies chapter for information on beating them. After you defeat them, you should see two telephone poles ahead. Go up the first one you find, and, as you get to the end, jump and wallride the billboard. Do this a couple times until you get to a pipe (this is similar to what you did to get here), and jump to the next platform. You should find yourself on a red mesh-like platform. Walk around and spray all the tags here. There are a lot of stairways and things here, so go around everywhere and spray tags. There is even another Graffiti Stop up here, and you can save your game. When you’re done, find two telephone poles near the Graffiti Stop. Grind up the pole closer to the Graffiti Stop, and, halfway through the line, jump up onto the billboard here and do a wallride. Drop down onto a pipe. Do this several times, then finally jump onto a much higher platform right ahead. Or, which is easier, you can jump on the slightly lower roof edge to its left. Go around and spray all the tags here. You will also have to battle more Rokkaku Police, including some armored ones, and battle Hayashi again. Spray all the remaining tags here, then find two telephone poles. As before, grind the slanted one, jump halfway through, do a wallride, and go to the next pipe. It’s a little different here, though, because, instead of sliding off the billboard, you actually have to jump when you come to the end of the wallride to get to the next pipe. When you reach the next platform, you will see a walkway. Walk down it, taking a left when you reach the fork, until you find a giant pillar-like structure here. Grind up it, and spray the graffiti at the top. If you have missed any graffiti in the level, go back and spray it. Then, once the area is clear of Poison Jam graffiti, go to the Garage, save, and go to 99th street. ~= 99th Street =~ After a little while, tank-like machines with spotlights will be sent in by the Rokkaku Police. This happens twice in this level. See the Rokkaku Police Spotlights section of the Enemies chapter for information on beating them. After you have beaten the spotlights, go around and spray over all the graffiti. You have to use the telephone wires to get to a lot of them. A good way to get on the telephone wires at the start is to jump onto the black wire near the double dragons of Benton Tower. This will, after a little while, lead to the telephone wires. When you’re done spraying graffiti, Rapid 99 will arrive. Save at the Graffiti Stop in this level, and go to the main area, under the two dragons. Jump up the fake-looking fire coming out of one of the dragons’ mouths, and you will find them. Note that you must have at least 25 Graffiti Souls and have sprayed all the graffiti in Chuo Street, Rokkaku-dai Heights, and 99th Street, or they won’t show up. Talk to them, and they will challenge you to a game of Capture the Flag. Normally, you would use the techniques and strategies in the Capture the Flag section of the Battles and Contests chapter to see how to win. In this case, however, don’t follow most of the strategies in there, as it is much easier just to do this: At the start of the race, just jump down to where the double dragons are, and let Rapid 99 have the first two flags. While they’re doing that, jump on the tail of one of the dragons here, and ride up to the road there. Wait for the third flag to appear, and grab it (it will appear right here on the road). Then jump down, and grab the fourth flag, which appears right beneath the double dragons. Then jump on one of the dragons’ heads, and grind up until you reach the place where you found Rapid 99, which is where the fifth and final flag is. That’s a certain win, even if one single member of Rapid 99 got both the first flags. Once you have beaten them, DJ Professor K will come on the radio and reveal that Poison Jam’s hideout is in the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, which branches off from Rokkaku-dai Heights. When you try to exit 99th Street after you have cleared the level, by jumping up one of the dragons’ tails and going along the road, you will have to face Hayashi. To defeat him, use traditional ram-and-spray tactics. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 3 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ Save, and talk to Roboy. He has some important new techniques and things to show you. Then, head over to Rokkaku-dai Heights. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights =~ Once here, go up the stairs with the railway in them, go up the next flight of stairs you come to in a moment, and, at the fork, go right. After a little while, you should find the warehouse to the left with the double rail tracks. Go through it, go up the telephone pole you see ahead, and, when you are nearly at the end, you will either see the warehouse ahead, or just some buildings (depending on which direction you were going when you went up the telephone pole). If you aren’t facing the warehouse, go down the telephone pole, then go back and jump up the telephone pole you just descended. When you come near the end of the line and the warehouse is ahead, jump and you should go flying onto the top of the warehouse. Look to the right, and you will see a path with a long drop ahead behind some buildings. Go down it. You will land in a halfpipe, which, when you go in the direction you were facing, will eventually lead to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ Moments after entering, you will find yourself stuck in a trap. After a few minutes, a guy named Garam comes up and laughs at you. But he turns out to be a nice guy and offers to rescue you if you can do a few simple tricks. I hope you practiced those techniques Roboy taught you, if not, you can review them in the Moves chapter. After you complete them successfully, Garam throws down some steel bars for you to climb up. Talk to him, and he’ll join you. Go through the small, spray can-filled bridge and spray the Graffiti Stop and save. Now examine the room. DJ Professor K tells you to go turn the switches to unlock the gate barring the Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility. So go into the passage with the Graffiti Soul hanging above, right in front of the Graffiti Stop. It isn’t really necessary to use your handplant and dash to the other side of the pipe and get some serious air to get past all the gates you find, you can just do a properly-placed normal halfpipe jump. Once you have passed, DJ Professor K tells you to do a handplant halfpipe jump to get up to a pipe up there. Skate to one side of the halfpipe and go up to the edge, holding down X. When you do a handplant, race down the halfpipe and go up the other side in a jump. When done correctly, you will get a great deal of air, and go flying up to the pipe and land on it automatically. At the end of the pipe is the first switch. Spray it. Go up the stairs. There is another halfpipe here. Go through it, getting air off the halfpipe sides to jump over the fences. Walk down the walkway to the next pipe. Grind one of the edges of the pipe, and jump on to the mesh platform above when you get near the end. Spray the second switch here. Go through the rest of the pipe using the same grind-and-jump method until you come to the end, to the pipe with water rushing through it. As you did before, do a handflip, dash down the opposite side of the halfpipe, and jump up to the pipe above. Go through the next pipe, using the grind-and-jump technique again to pass the platforms. You will then come to the second Graffiti Stop. Save your game here, and spray the third switch. You will then come to a fork, and you can choose to go straight or go left. Go left, down the walkway and down the stairs. At the foot of the stairs, you will see another pipe. Grind the right side of it. When you come near the end, jump onto the platform ahead. As you can see, the entire area ahead has water beneath it, so you will have to cross the mesh platforms carefully. Now, the first time I went through here, I actually dismissed this place as a room full of water and nothing else and didn't even notice the mesh platforms, so don't make that mistake ;). It will probably take a number of tries and much frustration. The way I do it is, after I jump from the halfpipe to the mesh, I go straight ahead, running, make a jump, and, without stopping, make another jump at the end of this platform to go to the next. Then, I do a boost dash and a properly-timed jump, and, steering left, I land on the walkway leading to the switch. When you finally do reach the switch at the end of the room and spray it, making four switches sprayed, make your way back or just jump in the water. Go back through the pipe, and come out at the foot of the stairs. Don’t climb the stairs though, just walk straight, going around the stairs. When you come to the next halfpipe, go into it. After a moment, you will see a gigantic spiral ahead of you. Get into the bottom of the halfpipe, right in the middle. When you are just to the spiral, jump onto a little lever-like thing that is protruding at the bottom of the halfpipe. You will grind the spiral. Go further through the halfpipe, and spray the fifth switch at the end. Then, go back through the halfpipe and come out in the main room with the stairs. Go up the stairs, and take a left at the switch you sprayed here before. In other words, this time, take the path that goes straight from the second Graffiti Stop here, rather than taking the path that goes left and down the stairs. Go into the halfpipe ahead. When you come to a choice of going straight or right into another room, go straight. Come out of the halfpipe, spray the sixth switch, and enter the halfpipe ahead. Ride the blue/brown pipes through the halfpipe until you come to the halfpipe perpendicular to the one you’re riding in that has water running through it. As always, do the handplant halfpipe Air jump to get to the pipe above, and grind the pipe to the next platform, where you spray the seventh switch. Go through the halfpipe ahead, once again grinding blue/brown piping. When you reach the end and the third Graffiti Stop, save. Continue along the walway and down the stairs. Go beneath and behind the stairs and down this walkway until you reach a blue pipe. Grind it. You will automatically do a backflip and land on a platform. Spray the eighth switch here. Go back down the pipe or jump through the hole in the wall and go back to the foot of the stairs by the third Graffiti Stop. This time, however, do not go behind the stairs, but continue along the walkway they lead to, in the opposite direction you went last time. You will, after a while, find a blue pipe similar to the one you grinded last time. Grind it, automatically backflip, and land on another platform. Spray the ninth switch, then go back down the pipe or jump from the hole. If you jump from the hole, land on the narrow platform here. If you go back down the pipe, then go back to the stairs, and enter the spiral tunnel at the top. Go through it, grinding the spiral, until you reach the end, which is the narrow platform where you would have landed if you had gone through the hole. Now go to the end of the walkway and enter the spiral tunnel to the right. At the end, go along the walkway and up the stairs until you find a huge hole ahead of you. Grind down the pipe in it until you get to the bottom, or just jump into the hole. When you reach the bottom, spray the tenth and final switch. Now go into the small hole here, and drop down right to where you started this. Save at the Graffiti Stop here, and go through the proper halfpipe (which hasjust opened up) here to enter the Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility. ~= Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility =~ When you enter the first room, spray the Graffiti Stop and save, and also grab the Mystery Tape that’s here. See the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter for further information on Mystery Tapes. The level is quite linear, and you will be using skills similar to those you used in the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility to get through the many halfpipes and pipes and fences here. When you finally find Cube, the leader of Poison Jam, she will pit the Poison Jam members against you in a game of Tagger’s Tag. To win, you will have to defeat all three Poison Jam members. This is ridiculously easy. Apart from the fact that there are health cans everywhere, you can also drive each enemy into a dungeon to attack them. Target each of the enemies in turn and, after you ram into them a few times while on the pipes and so on, you can knock each one of them into a separate dungeon. In fact, they will eventually go there themselves, or at least most of them will. Once they are in separate dungeons, they will never get out, and keep running around in circles. All you have to do is get up behind them and press and hold down the right trigger when their health bars pop up. Their health will drop rapidly until it registers nothing. Once you do this to each of them in turn, Cube will escape, and DJ Professor K will come on the radio with news about the Noise Tanks and the Immortals. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 4 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ Three new levels have been unlocked, the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park, Hikage Street, and Kibogaoka Hill. We will start with the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. Save, and go to 99th Street. Once there, just continue along the road you are on until you reach the exit to the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ This level appears extremely hard, but it is not as difficult as it seems. It seems hard because most of the level is inaccessible from the main area. First, battle the Rokkaku Police you find almost instantaneously. Go to the Graffiti Stop, and save. Go along the path past the pyramid (at the top of the pyramid, spray the tag), and down to the main area of Pharaoh Park, with the coffins of the Immortals. Go around on the walkways here, spraying all the Graffiti Tags. You can also, by the way, go to the walkway in between the Immortals’ coffins and the pyramid you descended, and jump off either side to find a large mesh net. You can do various things here, such as get this level’s Mystery Tape. To get back up, grind one of the pillars. When you’re done with the walkways and the net, go back to Pharaoh Park and to the Graffiti Stop. To do this, go back from Pharaoh Park until you reach the pyramid, jump on one side of it, and jump off onto the platform above when you get to the top. Facing the road, with the Graffiti Stop ahead of you and to your left, you will have a blue horizontal pole on either side of you. Jump on the right pole while running, go up the pillar, and reverse onto the wire. Jump onto a satellite dish here. You can jump on either satellite ahead, as they each in turn lead to different sets of graffiti. Choose to go to the right dish. Proceed along the line of dishes, jumping as you come to the end of each, until you see a brown beam ahead. Jump onto the beam, then onto the platform ahead. Spray the M and L tags here. Go back to the two blue beams by the Graffiti Stop, take the right pole and jump on the satellite dish again, but this time take the left dish. Go up the series of dishes here, and then land on the next rooftop. Spray the M tag. Then turn to face the brown crane, and jump onto the small platform it’s holding up with chains. From there, jump onto the rooftop below. Spray the L tag you find. Once again, go back to the double blue poles. This time, however, take the left pole. Grind up the pillar and across the wire, and jump onto the ramp ahead. Jump from ramp to ramp, then, when you see a billboard ahead, wallride it, going right, and jump off when the wallride is about to end. Land on the rooftop ahead of you. Grind up the blue pipe here to another roof. Spray the M tag. As you can see, there are some rail tracks ahead. We will explore them later. In fact, you have to come to the place you’re now in twice more in the game. Turn to face the area just to the right of the top of the pipe you just came up, and jump to the next rooftop, which has a lot of spray cans. Keep going to the next rooftop, where you can see a ramp. Jump up the ramp, and land on a small platform ahead. Jump down to a large platform below, and go past the ramps ahead and spray the Graffiti Stop here. Save the game. Now go to the roof to your right, which has two health cans on it. Jump up the ramp on that rooftop and land on a roof which has an L tag. Spray the tag. Then return to the Graffiti Stop roof. This time, go left (which is currently, as you have just arrived from the roof to the right, straight ahead), up the ramp. Go across ramps and satellite dishes and rooftops until you land on a rooftop with a cross of spray cans. Jump onto the roof to the right, spray the XL tag, and go back to the previous rooftop. This time, go left (which, as you have just come from the right, is straight ahead), past ramps and jumping down from rooftop to rooftop until you find an L tag. Spray it. Using the ramps, go back to the roof with the cross of spray cans. Go straight this time (which, as you have just come from the left, will be to the left), from ramp to ramp until you see a billboard ahead. Wallride it to the left, and, just as the wallride is about to end, jump as far as you can left to the next rooftop. Spray the L tag here to complete the level. Make your way back to the first Graffiti Stop in the level, near the double blue poles, which will take a little while, then take the road to 99th Street. Go back to the Garage, save the game, then go to Shibuya Terminal. From here, take the exit to Hikage Street. ~= Hikage Street =~ This is one of those levels which does not need a walkthrough to get all the Graffiti Tags. Many of them are on the ground, and almost all the rest can be gotten by grinding the three major stairways in the level (in the extreme north, extreme east, and extreme west parts of the level). You will meet some Rokkaku Police in this level, including some armored ones. You will find them near the gigantic stairway systems in both the large rooms marked out on the map in both the extreme east and west parts of the level. When you get to the stairway in the extreme north part of town, Hayashi will appear in the Rokkaku Police’s latest machine -- the terror drone. See Rokkaku Police Terror Drones under Enemies. Go up the stairway, grinding as fast as possible. Watch out, the drone will sometimes throw bombs -- that’s why you need to move as fast aspossible. When you get the opportunity, jump onto one of the drone’s legs. Don’t jump off, but grind up the leg and spray continuously. You shouldn’t even have to get off once to knock out half of the drone. A scene will show up, in which Hayashi refuses to give up, even though he knows that the machine is not fully safe for him. You will pop off the drone, but just continue grinding the rail, once again jump on a leg of the drone and grind up it, and once again spray continuously to spray the remaining Graffiti Spots on the drone to defeat it. When you defeat the drone, spray the remaining graffiti. Once all the graffiti have been sprayed, go back to Shibuya Terminal, go back to the Garage, save the game, head over to Rokkaku-dai Heights, and go to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. As you can see, there is a new and simpler way to get there now. I’m not sure when this pops up in the game, but it opens at some time or other. In Rokkaku-dai Heights, come from the pipe leading to the Garage, and end up to its left. Turn right to face it, and you will see a small pathway ahead. Go straight into it, between two small pillars. It leads to the halfpipe leading to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. From the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, save and go to the newly-opened exit to Kibogaoka Hill. ~= Kibogaoka Hill =~ As soon as you enter, you will hear a conversation between Hayashi and other Rokkaku Police. They will soon attack you with helicopters. Don’t worry, these helicopters are pathetically weak. To defeat the first two, just get up to them and, when their health bars pop up, spray continuously until they explode, which should only take a second or two. Go across town, using the map as a guide, until you reach the other two helicopters. If they’re in a spot you can’t get to, move to a spot where you can get them, like a low bridge. Then, use the same tactics as before. Also see Rokkaku Police and Golden Rhino Helicopters in the Enemies chapter. Once you defeat the helicopters, go up a ladder you find around here and go up the staircase, then, a minute later, jump across the gap between platforms, and go up the stairs here. Ahead is one of the main places in the level. There is a Graffiti Stop around here. When you get to the bottom of the area here, you will see a girl (Boogie) appear and you have a fixed time limit to find her -- don’t worry, if you can’t find her in time, she will appear again and again. Spray the Graffiti Stop and save. Now, from the Graffiti Stop, go down the stairway into the area below. Boogie will appear. Grind the right rail of the stairway ahead and to your left. When you get near the end, jump off and land directly on a rail of the stairway to the right -- this saves precious seconds. Grind this stairway, then, at the end of the grind, slip off and continue along for a moment, then turn around and grind the rail to your right. When you come near the end of this, jump onto the right rail of the broken-off stairway ahead, and you will continue grinding along. When you come near the end, don’t allow yourself to slip off automatically, or you will end up on the rail ahead. Instead, jump off to the left onto a mesh-like platform, and talk to Boogie. If you can’t do it in time, just go back to the center of the area below -- Boogie will reappear again and again. When you talk to Boogie, she will join the GG’s. Now to spray the graffiti. Go back to the Graffiti Stop, turn around to face the area you just came up, and go back down. Now grind the stairway ahead and to your left as you did when you were finding Boogie. There is a ramp ahead. Jump on it while running fast, and land on the really high telephone wires ahead. When you are near to reaching the end of them, after a while, jump onto the spiral staircase ahead and go up. Go up the walkway when the spiral staircase ends, until you reach a red platform. If you look right, graffiti tags should be on the platform below. Jump onto that platform and spray the tags there. Then go back to the Graffiti Stop. Descend the staircase right in front of it. Go around here and spray all the obvious tags on the ground, then use the telephone poles to reach and spray the rest here. At the end of one telephone pole wire here, you will see that the Immortals have left a large Pharaoh statue. Grind one of the things coming down from either side of the headdress and spray the tag in the middle. A little ways later, you will see a suspiciously-similar looking scene. Spray all the tags in the area, then make your way back to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility exit. Spray the Graffiti Stop there, then turn, go up two metal staircases, and you will see two telephone wires ahead. Behind the left wire, you will also notice a second telephone pole, which leads to more sets of graffiti. These telephone wires and other telephone wires nearby lead to much of the graffiti in the level. Go along them, spraying the graffiti. Then explore the entire area, spraying all the other graffiti. When you’re done, DJ Professor K will tell you that the Immortals have showed up in the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. Go back through the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, through Rokkaku-dai Heights, and back to the Garage. Save the game, then head off to 99th Street. From there, head to the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ Once here, go along the road and turn left to the Graffiti Stop. Go down the pyramid, and head over to the central area of Pharaoh Park. The Immortals will come out of their tombs, and challenge you to a game of Tagger’s Tag. This is incredibly easy. I was able to win within 22 seconds. Just get behind the Immortals and spray continuously, keeping behind them. They will also jump down to the huge mesh net in the area, which you can get to by jumping off either side of the walkway between the Immortals’ tombs and the pyramid near the Graffiti Stop. Use the strategies and tips in the Tagger’s Tag section of the Battles and Contests chapter to see how to win. After you defeat them, they will go over to Highway Zero. Save at the save point, then go back onto the road. This time, though, don’t head for 99th Street, but go in the opposite direction, to Highway Zero. ~= Highway Zero =~ As soon as you enter, you will see the Immortals. Yoyo is next to them, trapped in a cage. The Immortals once again challenge you to a Tagger’s Tag game. They are harder to beat this time. Use the strategies and tips in the Tagger’s Tag section of the Battles and Contests chapter to see how to win. If your enemies are ahead of you, grind to catch up with them. There are some places in the level where you see billboards, one after another, alternating on sides of two walls in an alley. Running fast or grinding, jump onto the first billboard and do a wallride. When the wallride is almost over, do a jump and move to the next billboard, wallride that, jump off, and wallride the next one. This saves a lot of time. When you win, you will see that you have fallen into a trap! DJ Professor K comes on and tells you that the Immortals cleverly planned all this. Yoyo apparently is a double-crosser and has turned against you. All the GG’s have been taken to the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 5 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium =~ Talk to the Noise Tank here, and he will tell you to wait. Then talk to Jazz. She will tell you that the Noise Tanks confused her for one of the GG’s and trapped her, too. Talk to the Noise Tank again. He will tell you that you and Jazz will be facing off against opponents in a game of Death Ball. He will give you two time to practice. You now have to opportunity to save the game. Talk to Jazz again, and do practice passing and stuff. When you’re ready to begin the game, talk to the Noise Tank. First, you will face the Doom Riders, who used to be called the Hell Bikers. Next you will face the Immortals. Finally, you will face off against the Love Shockers. Save after each race, or at least make sure you save after beating the Immortals, because that will be your last opportunity to do so. All the races are the same, so just use the same tactics for all three races. At the start, grind the rail in the middle aisle. Keep on grinding rails there until you grab the ball. Now just continue along the path. If your enemies are close and ready to grab the ball from you, just wallride or use another escaping tactic. You can’t boost dash while you’re holding the ball. Don’t pass the ball to Jazz during the race. You can also use the tactics under Ball Hog/Death Ball in the Battles and Contests Chapter. Just as you’re about to beat the Love Shockers, the Rokkaku Police break in. You have to battle Hayashi’s terror drone again, and this time it’s a lot tougher. Use the same tactics as last time, grinding up one leg and spraying everything you can continuously. Beware, though, the drone sends out powerful shock waves that you have to either get out of the way of or jump over. The last graffiti spot is right underneath the drone, and is fairly hard to get to. Once you win, DJ Professor K will come on with the news that Yoyo’s plans were messed up by the Rokkaku Police break in, and the angry Noise Tanks are now roaming everywhere. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 6 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ Before you crush the Noise Tanks, you have the opportunity to get two new team members. You can get them anytime afterward, though. You can go to Highway Zero (accessible from Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park), and talk to Soda. If you can beat him in a City Rush race, he will join the GG’s. You can also go to the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium (accessible off 99th Street) and City Rush with Jazz. If you win, she’ll join you. See the City Rush section of the Battles and Contests chapter for strategies on winning in City Rush races. In any case, it’s time to beat those Noise Tanks once and for all. Go to Shibuya Terminal, and defeat all the Noise Tanks there. Just run through them and they explode. If you jump or walk at them, they will still explode, but hurt you too. Now head over to Dogenzaga Hill. Defeat all the Noise Tanks there too. Destroy the Noise Tanks in Rokkaku-dai Heights too. A lot of people tell me that they have trouble finding one of the robots here. I don't have the game anymore, so for a long time I wasn't able to help anyone with that, unfortunately, and all I could say was "but let me just say this: often, don't completely trust the map. Look at it from all angles. It may turn out that the Noise Tank you see in front of you is, when the map is viewed vertically, actually on a platform way over your head." That's still good advice, but now thanks to Cyrus and KingofNerds101, both of whose advice I accidentally forgot to upload into this FAQ until now, I have better advice: see the FAQ section for details. Finally, move over to 99th Street, and smash through the Noise Tanks there as well. DJ Professor K will tell you that someone’s battling Yoyo in the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. From 99th Street, go over to the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ Go down the road to the Graffiti Stop. Grind down the pyramid, then turn around and go back up the pyramid. Jump up onto the platform ahead. You will see two blue poles on either side of you. Grind the left one, go up the pillar, and grind the wire. When you get near the end, jump to the ramp ahead. Jump from ramp to ramp until you see a billboard just ahead. Wallride it, going right, and jump off when the wallride is about to end. Land on the rooftop ahead of you. Grind up the blue pipe here to another roof. Talk to Poison Jam, who has just been defeated by Yoyo. He will tell you that he saw Yoyo heading over to Sky Dinosaurian Square. Jump to the rail tracks ahead. One way leads to the Site of Tokyo Line, which we will explore later. The other way leads to Sky Dinosaurian Square. Take the exit to Sky Dinosaurian Square. ~= Sky Dinosaurian Square =~ Save at the Graffiti Stop, then go ahead. Yoyo and two Noise Tanks will drop down. Suddenly, Cube, the leader of Poison Jam, runs out and smashes into Yoyo, saying that he’s a fake (I still have no idea why she does this). The fake Yoyo (NT-3000) is knocked out of his Yoyo costume and turns out to be a Noise Tank. You now have to defeat all three Noise Tanks in Tagger’s Tag. They will always grind the red rails, not the green ones. Go after them, and boost dash to get up close, but don’t hit them or you will either knock them off the track or get them behind you, which isn’t good. Then spray continuously when their health bars pop up. They sometimes fall off the ledges, and appear back at the starting point. If you fall off, you will also go back to the starting point. This suggests a strategy. Fall off on purpose, wait at the starting point for one of them to fall off and reappear, and get up behind them on the rails where they can’t escape. There is a blue platform that you will come across on your right after a twisting wire (not a spiral, just a twisting wire) where the Noise Tanks also stop. When you win, DJ Professor K will come on the radio and tell you that the Noise Tanks were built by the Rokkaku Police, and they have now been defeated. Hayashi was kicked out of the Rokkaku Police force. The Rokkaku Police have sent in an army of highly trained assassins called the Golden Rhinos. Quite a bit of news, eh? ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 7 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ The Golden Rhinos have sprayed graffiti everywhere. From now on, all graffiti-spraying over areas is optional, but you can do them anyway if you want. There are a few new things you can do. You can play Tagger’s Tag with the Immortals on 99th Street, City Rush with Soda in Highway Zero (although you could have done that anytime after you defeated Hayashi’s terror drones at Rokkaku Expo Stadium), Flag Battle with the Love Shockers in Hikage Street, City Rush with the Doom Riders in Dogenzaga Hill, City Rush with Jazz in the Future Site of Rokkaku Expo Stadium (although you could have done that anytime after you defeated Hayashi’s terror drones at Rokkaku Expo Stadium) and City Rush with Cube in the Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility. You will only get new team members when you beat Soda, Jazz, and Cube in City Rushes, though, so you can only do those if you want. A guy named Clutch has appeared in your Garage, and offers to help you find Yoyo if you have at least 40 Graffiti Souls. If you don’t, go out and collect them until you have 40 or more. Then go back and talk to Clutch. He will steal the Graffiti Souls and take off. He will go from one place to the next, staying for a specific amount of time in each. He will continue in a loop of the three places until you catch him, so you can just go to the most accessible place for you and wait for him to appear. He will go from Kibogaoka Hill to the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park to Chuo Street, and keep going between the three. I recommend just going to Chuo Street, since he's easiest to find there. ~= Chuo Street =~ Clutch appears near the giant lizard statue. Talk to him, and he will give back the Graffiti Souls and join the GG’s. He also tells you that the real Yoyo has been imprisoned in the Fortified Residential Zone, which branches off from the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, and then he joins the GG's. Go back to the Garage through Shibuya Terminal. Once there, save the game and go to Rokkaku-dai Heights. ~= Rokkaku-dai Heights =~ Take the small path outlined earlier (from the Garage pipe, turn right to face the Graffiti Stop. Ahead, between two small pillars, is a path that leads to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility). Go to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. ~= Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility =~ While you’re here, if you haven't already, you might want to go to the Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility and City Rush with Cube. If you win, she’ll join the GG’s. After Cube joins you, go back to the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, save the game, and take the newly-opened exit to the Fortified Residential Zone. ~= Fortified Residential Zone =~ As soon as you enter, a recording the Golden Rhinos set up says that Yoyo is imprisoned here, and a time bomb has been set to blow the place sky-high! DJ Professor K’s instructions are a little misleading. He tells you to spray “the blue device.” Do nothing of the kind, because there isn’t one. You have to spray all the red switches to disable the time bomb. [EDIT]As a couple people have pointed out, the starting switches are actually blue, but they have red tags. So, to a certain extent DJ Professor K was right.[/EDIT] Go around and spray all four devices on the floor. Go to the stairways with a large dark red sign saying “symbol/4”. Grind the walkway of the stairway, then jump onto the ladder at the end. When you near the top of the ladder, press the A button to do a backflip and land on another platform. Grind this platform, and jump onto the ladder at the end. Continue this grind walkway-jump-grind ladder-backflip cycle until you reach a switch and spray it. Do the same thing to the other staircases that have large dark red symbol slash number signs and spray all the switches at their tops. When you have sprayed all the switches (outlined as purple-white sparks on the map), a Golden Rhino recording will play and try a second round of bombs. Now go up the stairway to the left of the electric fence, with the health can beneath it. It will lead to more staircases. Continue up until you reach a spiral staircase. Grind up it. Spray the switch on the platform you reach, then go left onto another walkway. Grind it, then jump onto the spiral staircase ahead when you’re about halfway down your staircase. Go up the spiral, and spray the switch at the top. Ahead is one of the main rooms, with three Golden Rhinos. Defeat them, either by ramming or boost dashing them and then spraying them, then grind up the stairway that has a dark red “symbol/2” sign. Spray the switch here, then go back down the stairway back into the room the Golden Rhinos were in. Now go up the other stairway that is flat, not spiraling. Spray the switch ahead, then turn left onto the walkway. When you see the spiral staircase ahead, and are halfway down your slope, jump forward and left, over a row of buildings. There is one especially low building here that is easy to get over. Spray the switch here, then make your way back to the Golden Rhino room. Take the stairway you went up last time (the non-spiraling staircase that doesn’t have a large red sign next to it), and go left at the switch you sprayed. Grind down this stairway again. Halfway down the slope in your stairway, jump onto the spiral staircase ahead. At the top of the spiral, spray the switch at the end of the walkway. Go up the stairway, get off at the top, and grind the stairway here. Halfway down, jump to the spiral staircase you see ahead of you. When you come to the flat area of the staircase, quickly jump to the platform ahead. Go along the walkway and spray the final switch here. That’s it for the timer. Three Graffiti Stops where you can save have appeared, but you can’t leave the Fortified Residential Zone, as the electric fence still bars the exit. You have to find Yoyo first. Go back to the Golden Rhino room, spray the Graffiti Stop, and save. Now grind the spiral staircase here. After that, go down the walkway and grind the stairway you find. Go down this walkway and grind the spiral staircase at the end. At the top, you will see an orange fence to your left. Go around it, to the other side of it. Grind the staircase ahead. When that’s done, you will see what appears to be a walkway ahead. Run to the edge of your platform, facing the apparent walkway, and jump as far as you can into the walkway. You will fall a bit, probably onto a platform which has a bunch of spray cans. If not, reverse direction and go forward slowly until you fall onto that platform. If you are, however, on the bottom platform, then jump ahead to the next platform ahead of you, go along the walkway, jump to the platform ahead, and skip the rest of this paragraph. Face the symbol/1 sign you will see to one side of you, and step cautiously over the edge to fall to another platform. Turn around, and jump over the gap to the next platform. Go along this walkway, then jump to the platform ahead. You will see another stairway ahead. Grind up it. You will see a familiar site -- a fake walkway. Do the run-jump-fall-turn-jump over gap-go along walkway-jump onto platform trick ahead, then spray the Graffiti Stop here and save the game. Grind up the staircase here and do the run-jump trick again, but this time you should land in a hole. Let yourself fall down the hole, then go around on the platform you land on and talk to Yoyo’s cage. The Golden Rhinos will attack in helicopters. To defeat the first one, get onto it by jumping off one of the ramps and spray continuously. To defeat the second, just get up close and spray. When you defeat them, Yoyo’s back at last! DJ Professor K will come on the radio with the latest news about the Golden Rhinos and a new gang who look like Beat (they’re called Zero Beat). ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 8 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Garage =~ Save and talk to your fellow GG’s if you like, then head over to Shibuya Terminal. From there, take the exit to Chuo Street. New graffiti made by a gang called Zero Beat will be everywhere, but don’t bother spraying it, as it will be replaced later in the game. ~= Chuo Street =~ Stock up on spray cans and go up to the giant lizard statue. When you get there, you will be faced with a Golden Rhino that has long arms which he throws at you. I won’t say this is easy, but it’s actually hard to lose, with all the spray and health cans around. You don’t need to boost dash him to knock him down, and I don’t recommend doing so, since you will be flinging yourself past him and he only stays down for a second or two. Just ram him while running fast to knock him down. When he lands on the ground, ram him and spray continuously. When he’s on a building and throws his arm at you, jump out of the way and grind up the arm while running fast. You will ram into him and knock him off the roof, giving you an opportunity to spray him. He goes from one building to another. When you defeat him, Zero Beat will appear and then leave. Go back to Shibuya Terminal, and from there head over to the Garage. Take the exit to 99th Street, and go through the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park to Highway Zero. ~= Highway Zero =~ While you’re here, you might want to race Soda if you want to. If you beat him in a City Rush, he will join you. Go along the highway in various directions until you are attacked by another odd Golden Rhino. She holds a flamethrower and is much easier to beat than the bigwig you met on Chuo Street. Just ram her, and spray continuously. She stays down for longer than the Chuo Street guy did, and her health bar goes down fast. If she turns you into a human fire ball, you can grind a rail to put the flames out faster. When you have defeated her, DJ Professor K will come on the radio. He is being kidnapped! Head back to the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park. ~= Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park =~ If you have defeated the Golden Rhino arm guy in Chuo Street and the flame lady in Highway Zero, you will see a scene in which Zero Beat appears. You will be doing the same thing you have done twice before. Go down the road to the Graffiti Stop. Save the game, grind down the pyramid ahead, then turn around and go back up the pyramid. This is the place where you met Poison Jam much earlier. This time, you will meet Zero Beat. Talk to him and he will run away to the Site of Tokyo Line. Jump onto the rail tracks ahead. One way leads to the Site of Tokyo Line, and the other way leads to Sky Dinosaurian Square. Take the exit to the Site of Tokyo Line. ~= Site of Tokyo Line =~ You will see a train-like machine ahead. You have to spray all four of the Graffiti Tags at its end to defeat it. If you go a little ways away, it will stop moving until you catch back up. Boost dash to get up close, then spray continuously when a Graffiti Spot’s health bar pops up. When a yellow light appears behind one of the trains on a track you’re on, jump to a different track, as a sort of line of energy will appear and hurt you if you touch it. If a train appears to “open its mouth”, get out of the way, as it will fire a spider out. When you have sprayed all of the Graffiti Tags, the train will stop. DJ Big Gouji will come on on his show, Rokkaku Bonzai Radio, and brag that a giant tower has been finished in Shibuya Terminal and Rokkaku Expo is almost finished. Note that, after this, you can never access the Site of Tokyo Line again. ~= Garage =~ All the areas are locked except Shibuya Terminal. Save the game. Talk to your teammates if you want, then head over to Shibuya Terminal. ~= Shibuya Terminal =~ After a speech from DJ Big Gouji, you will have to win at Tagger’s Tag against the Zero Beats. You only have to beat two of them to win. See the tips and strategies in the Tagger’s Tag section of the Battles and Contests chapter. After you win, DJ Professor K will come on and change Jet Set Radio’s name to Jet Set Radio Future. Walk toward the huge tower and you'll be transported to inside Gouji's Tower. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Chapter 9 ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- ~= Gouji’s Tower =~ The enemies here won’t die, so don’t waste your time attacking them. There are three ways up to Gouji. It takes a long time to get up, and a lot of grinding and wallriding is necessary. The paths all start with the telephone wires. I always use the same path. Go from the broken-off spiral staircase end that you can’t reach on the ground in the direction the broken-off part goes. Make your way past two telephone poles a little ways ahead, then grind up the slanted pole ahead of them. Wallride and grind along until you find a broken-off spiral staircase. Jump onto and grind up it. Gouji is at the top, dressed in robot armor. His robot form, A.KU.MU, may take a little while to beat. Boost dash him twice when he starts shooting fireballs to weaken him so you can beat him. You will probably want to go back down to stock up on spray cans before going further. You can now either spray him while he stands, or boost dash him to knock him down, then spray him. Here's an alternate strategy from The Dude: "Make your way to the platform where gouji is standing and follow the strategy where you knock him down twice. This should take 20 cans or so, because of the two boost dashes, and because you can only have 30 cans, grind the broken stairs down to the floor and get filled up on cans. Get back up to gouji, momentarily skate on the platform until he runs after you, then go back to the main steps of the broken stairs (the one's closest to the platform). Wait for him to run over to you. He will keep running against the fence right in front of you. Sneak quietly up the stairs until the tag indicator locks on him, then spray him while you are standing still. He will keep running against the rail because you are on the opposite side, and you can attack him by standing in one place. Eventually he will die." When you win, you will have at last completed the game! Well, not quite. For the game to be truly complete, you have to collect all the Graffiti Souls and Mystery Tapes, complete all the Street Challenges, and get all the characters, which requires you to beat every level in Test Run mode (see the Test Runs chapter). The storyline, however, is complete. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 10. Test Runs -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= After you have beaten the storyline part of the game, a new option opens up. Anyone can beat the storyline, but Test Runs are where you really test skill. You need all the Graffiti Souls in a level to access that level in Test Run Mode, and, in order to do that, you need to do all the Street Challenges in that level to collect many of them, and you need the Mystery Tape in that area to do those Street Challenges. Note that you don’t have to cover up all the graffiti. You can access the Test Runs from Roboy’s Garage Menu. The choice will be grayed out until you have all the Graffiti Souls in at least one area. In Test Runs, if you manage to get Jet rankings in Jet Graffiti, Jet Tech, and Jet Dash or Jet Flag, then you unlock the characters in that level. These characters can be used in the game just like any other characters. In each level, there is Jet Graffiti and Jet Tech, but there is also either Jet Dash or Jet Flag; half of the levels have Jet Dash, the other half have Jet Flag. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Graffiti ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Graffiti is where you enter a level and try to spray all the graffiti as fast as possible. When spraying large tags (or any tags at all), you can save precious seconds by spraying continuously to spray the individual spots, rather than releasing the A button between sprays (see Spraying Continuously under the Moves chapter). ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Tech ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Tech is where you enter a level and try to get the highest overall points by doing lots of tricks in Grind and/or Air Combos, especially on point rails and bonus rails (see the Point Places section of the Street Challenges and Mystery Tapes chapter for lists of some of these that will help you). Note that, when doing combos, the Y button gives more points than the X button. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Dash ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Dash is where you try to race all the way around a level as fast as you can. Make sure you are experienced with the level you race in. See the City Rush section of the Battles and Contests chapter for some strategies that may help. Try to collect as many spray cans as you can and boost dash a lot, grind as much as you can, and use objects to your advantage. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Flag ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Jet Flag is where you try to collect 5 flags in a level as fast as possible. Use some of the techniques and tips in the Capture the Flag section of the Battles and Contests chapter for further information. I’m sorry this chapter is not more complete, but I lost access to the game before I could finish it. Strategies, walkthroughs, and so on for the Test Runs from others is always welcome, and you will be credited for it. Email me (my email address is at the end of this FAQ) if you want to submit something like that. I never even got to finish the test runs myself, though I did do most of them. If you do want walkthroughs for doing the test runs, there might be some at the Jet Set Radio Future FAQ page on the site where you found this FAQ. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 11. Getting all the Characters -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Some characters you can get by just meeting them, or beating them in a race, etcetera. Those are listed under Normal Characters. Others, like the Love Shockers, can only be gotten by getting Jet rankings in everything in a specific level, but can also be used in the real game once you get them. These are listed under Test Run Characters. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Normal Characters ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Here are the normal characters you can get during the game, sorted in the order in which you can get them. ~= Yoyo =~ He’s in the Garage from the Start. ~= Corn =~ He’s in the Garage from the Start. ~= Gum =~ She’s in the Garage from the Start. ~= Beat =~ You can get him by beating him in a City Rush race around Dogenzaga Hill after you have cleared the area. ~= Combo =~ Do as he does in Shibuya Terminal after you have sprayed all the graffiti there and talked to Poison Jam a few times. ~= Rhyth =~ Find, talk to, and follow her in Rokkaku-dai Heights. She’s on one side of the top of the warehouse with the two rail tracks. To get to her, jump on a slanted telephone pole nearby and jump onto the warehouse roof, then talk to her and follow her when she runs away. ~= Garam =~ In the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility, do what he tells you to when you fall into the halfpipe and can’t get out. ~= Boogie =~ Find her within the time limit in Kibogaoka Hill. FAQ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Q: Is this game only out on the Xbox? Is there a sequel? Prequel? A: Yeah, 'fraid so. Though there is a prequel, Jet Grind Radio, for the old system the Dreamcast, which unfortunately no longer has games being made for it. But if you or a friend have a Dreamcast lying around somewhere, consider buying JGR. There's also a GBA version of the original Jet Grind Radio out now, also called Jet Grind Radio, but I haven't played it so I can't offer opinions on it. Q: Can you really get Potts? A: I was never actually able to get him myself, but I've heard you can, and a couple people have confirmed that you can. So, yes. Q: I can't get one of the Graffiti Souls in such-and-such. Can you give me some hints? A: Certainly, I'll try to help. I don't have the game anymore, though, so it'll just be from my memory. Remember, look at the map from both above AND the side by rotating the thumbsticks. That way you'll be able to pinpoint it. Q: I can't find one of the switches in the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility. Where is it? A: See the walkthrough. It's probably the one in the water-filled room, the fourth one. Q: There's this one Noise Tank in Rokkaku-dai Heights I can't get. Help! A: Fear not! For a long time I kept on getting emails about this, and it proved frustrating, because I no longer had the game and there was nothing I could do. But, Cyrus says "I think I have solved the mystery of the missing Noise Tank in Rokkaku-dai Heights. It is at the very top of Rokkaku-Heights. On the very top of the chimmney but you cannot get him. You can grind the chimmney but once you reach the top, you will automatically do a backflip off the edge and land on the railing below. The kick is this: after getting incredibly frustrated I found out that you really don't need to get this noise tank. Just leave him there. The game will continue as normal. I guess its some kind of glitch in the game or a sadistic joke." KingofNerds101 offers a solution: "A simpler way is to just defeat the noise tanks in Dogenzaga Hill and Shibuya Terminal. That did it for me, I think you have to blow up only a certain number of noise tanks, I don't think it depends on the map your on." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 13.
