VERSION HISTORY 7/6/05 - Version 1.00 - First version, includes complete walkthrough INTRODUCTION Hi everyone, thanks for reading my FAQ. Hopefully, this walkthrough will aid you in completing the game and help you whenever you get stuck. For the most part, this guide is spoiler-free; I don't go into detail on any of the cut- scenes, and I left out the names of bosses that are major spoilers. However, if you consider level names and locations to be spoilers, I suggest not reading too far ahead. One note - I am not going to do a storyline/plot analysis for a couple reasons. One is that the storyline is so complex that I hardly understand it well enough to explain to other people. Also, there is a very good Plot Guide on GameFAQs written by LOKFanatic. I suggest you read it if you have storyline questions. -------- CONTENTS -------- Note: If you want to jump straight to a specific section, press Ctrl + F and type in the code you see in brackets before the section you want. Use the left analog stick to climb - Press Square to open doors and pick up items - Press O to fire a TK bolt; hold R2 to aim a TK bolt and release to fire. Use this to break cracked walls and glowing green objects - When Kain comes across a red circle on the ground, hold X to tense up and release to execute a long jump - When Kain comes across a green bat symbol on the ground, hold X to tense up and release to use bat flight - As Raziel, hold Up on the D-pad and press X to enter the Spectral Realm. When you find a portal in the Spectral Realm, hold Up and press X to enter the Material Realm. - Pass through gates by walking into them. Raziel must be in the Spectral Realm to do this. - As Raziel, repeatedly press X or Square under water to swim. ____________________ CHECKPOINTS & SAVING ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When you come across a red icon with Kain's symbol or a blue icon with Raziel's symbol, you've activated a checkpoint. You can save your game at any time by pressing Start and selecting Save Game. However, you will always resume a saved game from the last checkpoint you've activated. If you die, you are automatically taken back to the last checkpoint you've activated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIGHTING {HP2.2} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The fighting system in Defiance is much different from previous Legacy of Kain games. You only have one weapon; Kain is armed with the physical Soul Reaver and Raziel has the wraith blade. Using combinations of slash attacks (Square) and lift attacks (Triangle), you can create huge strings of attacks against your enemies. At first, you start out with basic combo attacks: Square-Square-Square, for example, will execute three consecutive slashes. Holding Triangle will lift an enemy in the air, where you can slash him three times with Square, or slam him back to the ground by pressing Triangle again. ______________ SPECIAL SKILLS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ As you fight and gain experience (you can check your experience meter on the status screen), you will acquire special skills. You can also check what these skills are and how to use them in the status screen. To activate a special skill once you acquire it, press forward (in the same direction your character is facing) and simultaneously press Square, Triangle, or Circle, depending on the skill. Kain and Raziel each get five special skills. Cadaverous Laceration (Kain) and Perforate Carcass (Raziel) Press forward and Square to begin the attack, then repeatedly press Square to unleash a quick series of slashing attacks. Sanguine Censure (Kain) and Phantasmal Tempest (Raziel) In the air, press forward and Square to begin the attack, then repeatedly press Square to unleash a quick series of slashing attacks. Infernal Sundering (Kain) and Shatter Spirit (Raziel) Press forward and Triangle to slam the enemy into the ground, knocking him into the air and allowing you to follow up with another attack. Nightmare's Hammer (Kain) and Empyreal Rending (Raziel) In the air, press forward and Triangle to slam the enemy to the ground, causing him to bounce back up and allowing you to follow up with another attack. Kinetic Shackles (Kain) and Stasis Field (Raziel) Press forward and Circle to execute a TK attack, holding the enemy in the air and temporarily disabling him. _______________ REAVER ELEMENTS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ As you progress through the game, you'll obtain elemental enhancements for the Reaver. When fully powered up (look at the Reaver gauge next to your health gauge to tell), the Reaver adds extra effects to your attacks based on the elemental enhancement you have selected. For example, Kain's Time Reaver will slow your enemies down when it's fully powered. Raziel's Light Reaver will blind and stun your enemies, and his Fire Reaver will cause your enemies to catch on fire. Experiment with the different elements; all of the power-ups involve extra damage or immobilizing the enemy, or both. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MENUS {HP2.3} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _____________ THE MAIN MENU ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The main menu is at the start of the game. From here, you can choose the Start Game option to start a new game or load a saved game. Choose Options to adjust game settings such as vibration and subtitles. The Dark Chronicle option allows you to load a saved game and watch any of the major cut-scenes you've seen thus far. Finally, the Bonus Materials option allows you to view extras, such as the opening movies of Soul Reaver 1 and 2. You can also view any Arcane Tomes you've collected. Upon beating the game, you can unlock extras such as voice sessions and outtakes, which are quite interesting to watch. _______________ THE STATUS MENU ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Press Select during gameplay to open the status menu. There are three screens here. The first screen shows you any items in your possession, any Reaver enhancements you've acquired, and your current combat experience (you gain a new special skill with each level of experience). If you press L1 from the first screen, you'll reach a screen which shows you how many Health Talismans, TK Runes, and Arcane Tomes you've acquired. See the next section, Upgrades and Tomes, for more information on those. If you press R1 from the first screen, you'll reach a screen that gives information on the special skills you've acquired. ______________ THE START MENU ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Pressing Start during gameplay will bring up the start menu. From here, you can select Resume Game to continue the game. Select Save Game to save your progress (you will continue from the last checkpoint you've activated when you load a saved game). Select options to change game settings, and select Quit Game to quite your current game and exit to the main menu. Also, if you press Start during a cut-scene, you'll have the option to skip it in this menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPGRADES AND TOMES {HP2.4} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three types of collectibles hidden throughout the game. You can view how many of each item you've collected in the status menu at any time during gameplay. ________________ HEALTH TALISMANS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are 12 Health Talismans for each character. For every three Health Talismans you've collected, your character's health gauge will increase. By collecting all 12 talismans, your health will increase 4 times. ________ TK RUNES ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are 8 Telekinesis (TK) Runes for each character. Each TK Rune adds a small amount onto your character's TK gauge. The more runes are in your TK gauge, the more telekinesis you can use before having to recharge. ____________ ARCANE TOMES ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are 10 Arcane Tomes for each character. These tomes contain bonus material, mostly concept art from previous games. You can view the contents of tomes you've collected by choosing Bonus Materials from the main menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN VS RAZIEL {HP2.5} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are some of the main differences between Kain and Raziel: - Kain moves a bit slower, especially when climbing - Kain dies if he touches water; Raziel can swim in it - Raziel is able to glide by pressing X twice. Kain can only descend more slowly by pressing X twice. - Raziel is able to enter the Spectral Realm; Kain cannot - Kain can Mist through gates; Raziel must be in the Spectral Realm to pass through gates - Kain feeds on the blood of his enemies; Raziel devours their souls - Kain's life gauge is vertical; Raziel's gauge is in the shape of a spiral - Kain can use long jump and bat flight icons; Raziel cannot - Kain's slashing combo (Cadaverous Laceration) uses horizontal slashes, which can affect more than one enemy. Raziel's (Perforate Carcass) uses lunges, which only affects one enemy. =============================================================================== FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS {FQ3} =============================================================================== Here are some commonly asked questions about Legacy of Kain: Defiance. I will add to the list as I see more questions pop up. Q1: Is this the same as Soul Reaver 3? A1: Yes, this is a direct sequel to Soul Reaver 2. The game picks up right where Soul Reaver 2 left off. You can also see the connections between events in this game and in Blood Omen 2 if you've played it. Q2: How long does it take to beat the game? A2: This game really isn't all that long. If you use this walkthrough, it will maybe take you from 6 to 10 hours to beat the game; longer if you explore everything on your own. Q3: Are all the voice actors the same as in previous games? A3: Okay, I've never really been asked this, but I just had to point out that the outstanding voice actors from the previous games are all back in Defiance. That includes Michael Bell as Raziel and Simon Templeman as Kain, the two greatest voice actors ever. Q4: I'm missing a tome/talisman/rune; where can I find it? A4: Check the Talisman, Rune, and Tome Locations section. =============================================================================== WALKTHROUGH {WK4} =============================================================================== This is the main section of the FAQ - a full walkthrough of the game from beginning to end. I've divided the walkthrough into levels as in the game, and I've subdivided most levels into smaller sections for easier navigation. If you want to find a specific level quickly, press Ctrl + F and type in the name of the level or the level's code (see Table of Contents) to jump right to that level. TALISMANS, RUNES, AND TOMES If you're looking for a specific Health Talisman, TK Rune, or Arcane Tome, here's how to find it - I've listed a code and a number for each one within the walkthrough in this format: (XXY#). XX identifies what type of item it is; replace the XX with HT for Health Talisman, TK for TK Rune, and AT for Arcane Tome. Y identifies which character it is for; replace the Y with K for Kain or R for Raziel. # identifies the number of the item - the first one is 1, the fifth one is 5, the tenth one is 10, and so in. So for example, if you want to find Kain's sixth Health Talisman, press Ctrl + F and type in (HTK6). If you want to find Raziel's eighth Arcane Tome, press Ctrl + F and type in (ATR8). With that out of the way, here is the walkthrough. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE SARAFAN STRONGHOLD {KL1} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ____________ FIND MOEBIUS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After the opening scenes, you'll take control of Kain. Move forward under the archway, and continue ahead until you see two enemies. This will be your first battle. These enemies are quite simple. Take them on one at a time. You can beat them easily just by using a Square-Square-Square combo. Or you can hold Triangle to hit them into the air, then press Square a few times to perform an aerial combo. You'll no when you've finished off an enemy because there will be an explosion of blood around him. At this point, walk up to him and hold R1 to drink his blood. You can also press O to blast an enemy with telekinesis, which may knock him onto the spikes on the wall. Once the first enemy is dead, finish off the other enemy. Against the wall on the right side, you'll see a short box. Press X to jump on it, then stand at the edge of it an jump to the left. You'll catch hold of the roof to the left. Once on top of the roof, jump across to the next ledge. Then jump to grab hold of the next roof and climb over it. Follow the walkway around, climbing over another rooftop, and you'll come to a bridge. Head right into the next area. In this room, you'll see a climbable wall. Jump onto it to grab hold, then hold Up to climb. At the top, walk into one of the gates to mist through. There will be a short cut-scene, showing a prisoner that you can feed off of. If you need the health, hold R1 to drink the prisoner's blood. Move forward into the prison. There are two more prisoners near the cells here. Continue up the stairs, passing more cells and prisoners on the way. At the second landing, you'll see a strange container floating in the nearby cell. Slash it with your sword to open it, revealing your first Health Talisman (HTK1). After you get it, enter the third cell on the landing, where you'll see a crumbling wall. Attack it a few times or hit it with your telekinesis to break it, and head through the opening. You'll see a quick scene in which Kain kills a guard with his telekinesis. Head to the end of the walkway and jump onto the pipes, then climb onto the metal structure. From here, you can jump across the water to the other side. Go to the opposite end of this walkway and climb the wall. When you reach the top, press X to jump away from the wall onto the next walkway. Climb one more wall, and cross the bridge at the top to find another container, this one with a Telekinesis Rune (TKK1). Then go back over the bridge and enter the next room. Feed on the prisoners if you need to, then mist through the gate at the end of the hallway. You'll come to a sealed door. Continue on, under an archway, and you'll be confronted by some archers. The best way to kill them is to press O to blast them off the walkway they're standing on. Once they're out of the way, mist through the gate at the other end of this area and enter a courtyard. Follow the covered walkway to the corner to find the first Arcane Tome (ATK1). Then go back around, past where you entered, and press Square to open the door here. In the hallway beyond, there will be archers shooting out of the wall. You can actually pull them out with telekinesis by holding O and pressing the analog stick, but the best thing to do is simply jump continuously until you reach the door at the opposite end of the hallway, avoiding them. Go through the door, and activate the first checkpoint. You can now save your game and leave off at this checkpoint. __________________ THE BALANCE EMBLEM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Make your way toward the inner chamber, and grab the second Arcane Tome (ATK2) to the right of the gateway. Then enter the gateway and approach the Balance Emblem at the back of the room. Before you can reach it, you'll be attacked by a couple of archers on the ledges above. To get them down, face one of them and hold down O to grab them with TK. Then move the left analog stick towards Kain and release O to pull them down towards you. Finish them off with a couple of combo attacks. When they're out of the way, you can grab the Balance Emblem. After you get it, you'll be attacked by four Sarafan warriors. They're not too tough; a couple of combo attacks each will bring them down. You can also use TK to throw them onto the spikes, but this seems to be more trouble than it's worth. At this point, you'll notice a charge gauge for the Reaver. As you attack enemies, the Reaver becomes more powerful. If the gauge fills, the Reaver's power will be greatly enhanced, and you can hold and release Square to cast a spell. To fill the gauge more quickly, you can feed the Reaver by pressing Triangle on a stunned enemy, instead of pressing R1 to drink their blood yourself. After you kill the enemies, approach the door with the glowing symbol on it. Hit it a few times with the Reaver to open it. Enter another hallway with archers shooting out of the walls, jumping to avoid them. Then go through the door on the opposite end. In this room, take care of three Sarafan guards. After they're dead, Kain will notice a locked door. Afterwards, follow the room around to the right of the locked door, and enter a short hallway with a door at the end. There are three archers on the walkway out here, so dispose of them with your telekinesis. Then go over to the far corner and jump up onto the ledge where the archers were. Follow the walkway around and you'll find a container with the second Telekinesis Rune (TKK2). Now you will notice a broken pillar with some green energy around it. This indicates that it can be broken with telekinesis. Hold R2 and aim your TK with the analog stick. When the cursor turns red over the pillar, release R2 to knock the pillar down. Climb onto the block, then jump up onto the balcony. At the top, mist through the gate. You'll activate a checkpoint on the other side. In this room, jump down to the lower level and approach the practice dummy that has the red icon underneath it. Follow the instructions on the screen - press L1 to enter and exit combat mode, Square for a slashing attack, and Square- Square-Square for a slashing combo. Then move on to the next dummy. Press Triangle for a lift attack, hold Triangle for a lift-jump attack, hold Triangle and press Triangle in mid-air for a slam attack. Move on to the next dummy. Hold Triangle, then press Square-Square-Square for a mid-air combo, hold Triangle and press O for a mid-air TK blast. Next dummy - enter combat mode and press X and a direction to dodge, press X twice for a jump. Then move on to the center dummy, which will review everything you just did. Now one of the banners at the top of the room will disappear, revealing a crumbling wall behind it. Climb up and break the wall, revealing a container with your second Health Talisman (HTK2). Drop back down and enter the door at the bottom of this room. Feed on the prisoners if you need to, then climb the ladder and slash at the beam blocking the gear. This will release the drawbridge, which you can then cross. Continue through the hallway and go through to door at the end to find yourself back in the central courtyard. There will be a few Sarafan guards here - I'd recommend taking out the archers first so they don't shoot you while you're attacking the others. When the first ones are dead, a couple more will replace them. Also, around this point you'll get your first special attack, Cadaverous Laceration. To use this attack, press the left analog stick and Square at the same time, then keep pressing Square to slash quickly. You can see more info about your special attacks in the game menu by pressing Select. After the enemies are dead, go through the doorway you originally came in from (if you're facing the statue of Malek in the center, the doorway is behind you and to the right). Head back towards that sealed door you came across earlier, dealing with a few Sarafan guards on the way. Strike the door with the Reaver to dispel the barrier. Go through the door to reach a checkpoint. _________________ MOEBIUS' CHAMBERS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Head down the stairs, either avoiding or using TK on the hidden archer on the first landing. Continue down the ruined stairway. It's quite a ways down, but keep going until you come to a room with some barrels in it, then continue on to reach another checkpoint. Now, you'll need to be very careful in this room. If you touch the water at all, you'll die and have to start over at the last checkpoint. Approach the red circle on the ground and stand on it. Hold down X and Kain will tense for his long jump; release it when he's ready and he'll jump across the water. Then hold R2 to aim your telekinesis at the rock in front of you. After it breaks, jump onto it. Be careful here; it may help to press X in mid-air to slow your decent for a more precise jump. Also, you can press R1 in mid-air to dramatically slow your jump for maximum precision. Then break the next rock, jump across to it, and jump forward, onto the next ledge. Jump forward again, and follow this walkway around to the left to get your third Health Talisman (HTK3). This will increase your health gauge. Then go back to where you jumped onto this ledge and jump forward to the next walkway. Follow it around, then take a big jump into the doorway. There is a strange switch here; use R2 to target it with TK and open the door. Inside, you'll see a cut-scene, and activate a checkpoint. Ugh, Shades. You might remember these guys from previous games, and they're still quite annoying because they come in swarms and don't give you any blood or souls. However, they're quite weak - two slashes will kill one of them. So just fend them off with regular attacks until they're all dead. After the Shades are out of the way, we'll switch over to Raziel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - THE UNDERWORLD {RL2} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _____________ THE ELDER GOD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When you gain control of Raziel, drop down to the lower level and head north to get Raziel's first Arcane Tome (ATR1). Then climb back up and go up the stairs along the wall. Climb up onto the block and jump over to the next one, then the next one. To make the next jump onto the platform in the middle of the room, you'll need to glide by pressing X in mid-air. Then glide into the doorway and follow it to the next area. You'll activate a checkpoint here. Jump onto the platform in front of you, then onto the next ledge. Follow this walkway around and jump onto the next platform. Now you'll need to devour six souls to advance. The first one is right next to you, so hold R1 to devour it. Then jump onto the previous ledge and devour the second one. Keep going back around until you find the third one. After you get the third, turn around and go forward again, jumping onto the ledge where the Elder God is blocking your way. Then glide to the next ledge and go up the stairs to find the fourth soul. The fifth is at the edge of the landing on top of the stairs. Then glide across the gap to find the last one. Now you can glide back down to the doorway and proceed. In the next room, jump down and cross to the doorway. Now you'll need to fight some Sluagh. Hit them with a couple of ground combos, then they'll turn transparent. When they do, hold down R1 to devour them. If you leave them too long, other Sluagh will devour them and respawn. After you devour six of them, you can pass. In the next room, jump across the gap. Now the mist at the bottom of the room will start to rise, so you'll have to do this next part quickly. Jump across the next gap, and the Elder God will tear down a piece of the rock. Jump across this gap and continue to the end of the ledge. Now you need to jump and glide across to catch hold of the rock wall ahead of you. Jump off at the top and keep going around the walkway, being careful as the Elder God takes out another chunk of rock. Jump over the gap onto a stairway, and continue up to another scalable wall. Climb it and jump off at the top, then jump to the next ledge, then the next. The Elder God will pull down some more rock; just jump over the gaps and continue on to the top. At the top, you'll need to make a jump onto the rock jutting down from the ceiling. There will be a scene as you jump, and another checkpoint afterwards. __________________________ ESCAPE FROM THE UNDERWORLD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Head right to trigger a short scene, and grab an Arcane Tome (ATR2). Then go back to the checkpoint and climb the nearby block. Climb up and around, then glide across the gap. On the other side, climb the stairs and jump onto the scalable wall. At the top, after a quick scene, glide to the next platform to your right. Jump to the next platform and go through the doorway. In this hallway, you'll be attacked by a few tentacles. Just keep moving around and attack them when they surface. Keep going through the hallway and proceed until you see a cut-scene. After the scene, jump up onto one of the windowsills and move into the gate to pass through. On the other side, you'll activate a checkpoint and have to fight a couple of flying enemies. If these enemies attack you, they will start to drain your health. If this happens, you need to hit them to stop them from draining your health. To defeat them, jump into the air and hit them with aerial combos. After you defeat them, the level will end. Back to the Sarafan Stronghold. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE SARAFAN STRONGHOLD (PART 2) {KL3} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ______________ PURSUE MOEBIUS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Run forward to the door and grab the Falcon Insignia from it. Enter the hallway on the other side and continue to find an almost climbable wall. To make it climbable, you need to break the crumbling rock around it with your sword or TK. Climb up and break the wall on top, too. Go through the door, and you'll find yourself on the bridge leading to the prison. Go through the door into the prison. Inside, you'll be attacked by some Shades. Dispose of them. Then climb the stairs to the top landing, killing any remaining Shades. You need to kill them all before you can open the door at the top. Go through the door to find another hallway with some prison cells. The second prison cell on the right contains a telekinesis rune, so get it (TKK3). Then proceed until you come to a wall obstructed by some rock. Clear the rock, then climb up and break the wall at the top. Go through the door, and you'll find yourself in the Balance Emblem room. The nearby door is barred shut, so go back down the main hall to the far door. When you get there, you'll activate a checkpoint, and you'll be attacked by some Sarafan guards. These guards are clad in green and attack using two weapons. They're stronger than the guards in the first level, but they'll pose no problem to you if you use your combos and special attack. After the fight, go through the door into the hallway with the hidden archers. Jump down the hallway to avoid the arrows, and enter the main courtyard through the door on the other end. ______________ MALEK'S SHIELD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After the scene, approach the door on the left side of the courtyard (if you're facing Malek's statue). As you approach, it will be barred shut and you'll have to fight a couple waves of enemies. After they've been dealt with, enter that door. Go through the hallway, across the bridge, and enter the room where the training dummies were before. In here, you'll encounter some more enemies, one of which is a spellcaster. Spellcasters can enhance the abilities of the other enemies, such as giving them shields or higher attack power. It's best to take them out first. After the spellcaster is down, the rest will be easy. When the enemies are out of the way, climb the wall and approach the gate at the top for a quick cut-scene. After the scene, drop down and take out another group of enemies. By this time, you should be close to getting your second special attack, Sanguine Censure. This is a very useful aerial combo attack. Anyway, enter the door on the right side of this area, and you'll find yourself back in the room with the Falcon Insignia lock. Approach the door, and you'll be attacked by some more enemies. After they're finished, approach the door and press Square to insert the Falcon Insignia in the lock. Follow the hallway on the other side, and you'll emerge on the second floor of this room. Follow the walkway around to the left and enter the next doorway. Go through the door and follow the walkway until you come to another door. Go through. Use the long jump here to leap across the main hall. On the other side, break the container on the left to get another Health Talisman (HTK4). Then use the TK switch to enter the next door. Inside, there will be a checkpoint and an Arcane Tome (ATK3). After you get it, approach the block on the right side of the room. Press Square to grab it, and drag it into the nearby indentation in the floor using the analog stick. This will turn the statue around, allowing you to get Malek's Shield. After you get the shield, you'll need to fight some Shades before you can exit to the main hall. When you get there, drop down to the first floor and take care of the enemies down there. Then go back through the archer-filled hallway to reach the courtyard with Malek's statue. _____________ MALEK'S SWORD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There will be archers at the top level, but ignore them for now. Return Malek's Shield to his statue to dispel the barrier on one of the doors. Go through it and follow the hallway to the top level, where you can take care of all the archers. Also, follow the walkway all the way around to find a telekinesis rune at the end (TKK4). Then enter the door near the TK rune. On the other side, you'll find a couple of archers. Just blast them off the edge with some TK. Follow the walkway around to a fork, and go up to find Malek's Sword. After you get the sword, head back to the fork. You'll be attacked by some guards, so dispose of them. Now head left, around bend, and you'll come to a Health Talisman (HTK5), which is also guarded by some enemies. After you get it, return to the courtyard with Malek's statue. Go around the walkway to the other side so you can take out a couple of archers and a spellcaster. Then drop down to the ground level and take out the guards there. When the enemies are dead, replace Malek's Sword in his statue. Go through the newly unlocked door. There is a long hallway/staircase on the other side, with hidden archers in the walls. Just jump to avoid them and go to the top, where there is a checkpoint. ________________ DECORATIVE SWORD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Approach the door in the middle of this room and you'll be attacked by a few guards, including a spellcaster. Take care of them. Then climb the wall on the right side of the door and slash at the beam that's blocking the gear. Now climb the stairs on the left side of the door and do the same. This lowers the drawbridge, so go through the door now onto the bridge. There will be quite a few enemies waiting for you on the bridge. I'd recommend killing the archers first so they aren't shooting and interrupting your aerial combos. Once the enemies are cleared out, stand on the red long jump circle and leap across the gap. Climb the wall on the other side and you'll find yourself in a small room with a gear. Break the beam that's blocking the gear, then break the wall and go through it, breaking another wall and another beam to release the drawbridge below. Now the wall in the middle of this short hallway will be broken, so drop down to the level below. Go inside this room to activate a checkpoint, then grab the Decorative Sword from the pedestal next to the door. As soon as you grab it, you'll be attacked by a few guards. After they've been disposed of, return to the outer doorway. You can see some enemies waiting for you on the bridge. To kill them easily, you can use your TK to grab them and throw them off the bridge from here. When they're dead, long jump back to the bridge and cross over to the first room. Place the Decorative Sword in the door to the left of the doorway you came in. ___________ FIRE EMBLEM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ As you enter the next hallway, you'll activate a checkpoint. Follow the hallway and you'll come to a room with some torches and a pedestal in the center. Use Square to turn it three times, which will light the two torches on the right. This opens the right door, which contains an Arcane Tome (ATK4). Now turn the pedestal three more times to open the top door, which contains the Fire section of the Balance Emblem. This emblem will give you the ability to light and douse torches with your TK abilities. Also, you can now switch between the Balance and Fire blades for the Reaver using the directional buttons. Now, light the two bottom torches by aiming at them with R2. This will open the door, allowing you to exit. You'll be attacked by a few enemies on your way back to the bridge. Go back to the bridge and long jump across to the second room. This time, enter the door on the other side of the room. In this room, use your TK to light the two torches in the middle of the room. This will reveal a staircase of sorts, allowing you to climb to the first landing. Here, hit the switch with your TK and climb the next set of stairs, jumping over the broken segment. Then hit the second TK switch to reveal two small platforms. Carefully jump across them into the doorway at the top. Follow this hallway and approach the door at the end for a cut-scene. After the cut-scene, look to the left of the doorway you're standing in. You'll see a container; break it to get another Health Talisman, which will give you a health upgrade (HTK6). Then go out onto the balcony for a quick scene. After that, stand on the bat icon on the floor and hold and release X to use your bat flight to the pillars. Now we'll switch back to Raziel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - THE CEMETERY {RL4} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________ THE MATERIAL REALM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The first order of business is to find a conduit to the Material Realm. Raziel starts off right where he left off, so go forward through the doorway into the cemetery (you may notice a power-up container near the doorway; you have to be in the Material Realm to get it). There are a couple of Sluagh waiting for you, so take care of them first. Facing the doorway, take the right path, and follow the trail all the way down to a checkpoint, disposing of the Sluagh along the way. Past the checkpoint is a doorway; go through it and follow the path to a clearing. Here, you'll be attacked by a mob of Shades. After taking care of them, climb up onto one of the windowsills and pass through the grate into the next room, where there will be a cut-scene and a checkpoint. Stand on the portal in the middle of this room and hold Up and press Square to shift into the Material Realm. If you approach the door to the left of the crypt, it will automatically close. To get past it, we need to find the Dark Reaver. So go through the other door into the cemetery you came from. Outside, you'll be attacked by some tentacles, so get rid of them as you did before. Then follow the path back to the main cemetery. After a cut-scene, you'll have to fight four vampire hunters. Focus on killing them one at a time, and remember to devour their souls once they are stunned. After you kill them all, there will be another scene. After that, return to the doorway where you started this level, passing by the Light Temple door on the way. When you reach the doorway, climb onto the ledge on the left side to get a Health Talisman (HTR1). If you continue to the left of this doorway, you'll pass the Dark Temple door, and you'll end up at a door with two glowing orbs. This is the exit to this level, but we don't have the means to unlock it yet. For now, head back to the first doorway, and go past it to enter the building beyond, where the first level took place. Inside, you'll meet some Revenants. These enemies are fairly easy to kill; just watch out for their projectile attacks, which will interrupt your aerial attacks if they hit you. When they're dead, follow the hallway down until you are interrupted by some more Revenants. Take care of them. Keep on going down the hallway until you reach the water-filled room. Jump into the water and press Square to dive down. Keep pressing Square to swim, using the analog stick to control your direction. Swim to the bottom of the room and enter the alcove on the side, which Raziel pointed out during the first level. Swim up here and surface, then press X to jump out of the water. In this room, you'll see a moveable pillar. Press Square to grab it and use the analog stick to drag it out one square. Then you can climb up and grab the Ornamental Shield. After you get it, return to the surface of the large water- filled room. Press X to jump and grab the high ledge, and climb up onto it. Then place the Ornamental Shield in the statue to the right of the door to open it. Follow the hallway and enter the next door to find a room with a large pillar in the middle. Here, you'll meet some more Revenants. After they're gone, go through the next doorway and climb the stairs up and you'll come to a gate. Now switch back to the Spectral Realm by pressing Up and Square. Pass through the gate a jump/glide to the pillar in the middle of the room. From there, jump and glide to catch hold of the higher platform in front of you. Go through the door and follow the long passage, taking care of a few tentacles on the way. You'll emerge outside again, where there is another portal to the Material Realm. Use it. You'll be greeted by an angry mob of vampire hunters. Use your combos, or a special attack if you have it, to take them all out. Then go past the fire and enter a door. Follow the hallway to a checkpoint, and keep going until you're attacked by some Revenants. Take care of them and continue to another door. Go through to find yourself on the upper level of the cemetery. Glide over to the center platform, where there will be some vampire hunters. Just blast them off the edge with TK to get them out of the way. Also, grab the TK Rune here (TKR1). Then go around to the back of this island and glide across to find a door, along with another checkpoint. Inside, follow the hallway, taking care of the Revenants halfway through. You'll emerge outside, near the Dark Temple entrance. The door is too high to reach now, so switch to the Spectral Realm. Then you can climb onto the stone structure and glide across to the door platform. Use the portal back to the Material Realm and open the door to the Dark Temple. ___________ DARK TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Follow the short path into a large chamber and drop down to the floor. You'll have to deal with some Shades here. After they are dealt with, approach the portal and press Square to enter it. You'll be teleported to the actual Dark Temple. After a scene, head down the hallway. You'll have to deal with some more Shades on the way. You'll see another scene in the next room, where there is a checkpoint. Now you'll have to switch to the Spectral Realm to pass through the gate here. After that, drop down to the lower level of the temple. There are quite a few Sluagh down here, so kill them. There are two open doorways on this level; enter the one on the right and use the portal to get back to the Material Realm. There will be quite a few Revenants in this room, so take care of them all and reenter the main room, taking care of the tentacles here. Then approach the glowing forge to imbue the Reaver with the elemental power of Darkness. You can now switch between the regular and Dark Reaver with the left and right directional buttons. Now the portal will deactivate, so you need to find a way to reactivate it. First, though, break the wall that just cracked and take the Health Talisman in the room beyond (HTR2). Now return to the main room and approach the two glowing Light orbs. Touch them both with the Dark Reaver by pressing Square, and they will activate the portal back in the top room. To get back there, enter the left doorway, where there is a climbable wall. Climb up and go straight through the hallway to reach the portal. Take care of the Revenants, then enter the portal to return to the previous area. There will be a couple of Gargoyles that won't let you exit. To get past them, strike the nearby stone with the Dark Reaver until it's fully charged. Then hold and release Square to cast the Dark spell, which makes Raziel invisible. Now you can exit the Dark Temple back to the cemetery (use the Material Reaver to unlock the door). ________________ KAIN'S MAUSOLEUM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Follow the path back to the main area of the cemetery, where you'll emerge at the top level. Drop down to the bottom level, where you'll encounter a horde of vampire hunters. Try to take out the spellcasters first, but don't bother with them if they are shielded (green runes circling around them). Clean up all the vampire hunters in this area. After they've been cleared out, go to the right side of this area, where the Dark Reaver door is. Open it and go through. Follow the path to the end and go through the door. Inside, you'll fight some Revenants. Afterwards, strike the charge stone to power up your Dark Reaver, then cast the spell to make yourself invisible. You can now pass the Gargoyles into the next area. Go through the door and follow the hallway to a grate, which you need to pass through in the Spectral Realm. Take out the Sluagh in here if you want, then use the portal to get to the Material Realm. Climb up the stairs here, then glide over to the platform in the middle of the room. Now switch to the Spectral Realm again and glide to the next platform, then glide into the doorway. At the end of the short hallway, there will be a scene, a checkpoint, and a portal back to the Material Realm. Switch back, and grab Kain's Family Crest from the crypt. Kill the Revenants that attack, then go through the broken gate. Follow the hallway, killing a couple more Revenants, until you come to a statue of Kain. Turn it twice to unlock the door, then go through it to find yourself back in the main room. Kill the Shades that attack, then climb the stairs and use Kain's Family Crest to unlock the door. Follow the hallway behind it and you'll come to a pillar. Push it off the edge, then jump down after it. Now pull it about five squares back. You can then climb onto the stone structure and glide onto the pillar, then jump over to the Dark Reaver door. Open it to gain entry to the Light Temple. ____________ LIGHT TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Drop down into the large room, which is very similar to the Dark Temple entrance. Stand in the center of the room and move the right analog stick up and to the left so you can see the obstructed hole in the ceiling. Aim your TK at it to shatter it. Then climb the wall to the right of the portal and grab the Faceted Orb at the top. Jump down and place it in the pedestal in the center of the room to activate the warp portal. Use it to get to the Light Temple. There will be another mural scene. Afterward, follow the hallway to a checkpoint, then pass through the gate in the Spectral Realm. Drop down to the bottom level and kill all the Sluagh. Then use the portal in the center of the room to return to the Material Realm. Now use the forge to enhance the Reaver with the Light element. After the cut-scene, you'll have to fight a large statue. He moves very slowly, so approach him in combat mode, then dodge as he swings his sword. After he swings, give him a combo. Be careful if you use special combos (Perforate Carcass), because if you take too long he'll recover and hit you. Repeat this until he explodes. Now you need to find two Dark orbs and use the Light Reaver on them to activate the portal. First, enter the room directly across from the forge to get an Arcane Tome (ATR3). Then go back to the main room and break the crumbling door to reveal a climbable wall. Climb it, then exit this small room to reach the upper level of the temple. Go around to the right; the second door contains the first Dark orb for you to light up. Two more doors to the right is the second orb; do the same. Now go through the next gate in the Spectral Realm. There are a few Sluagh to take care of on the other side. Now follow the hallway back to the warp portal, switching back to the Material Realm using the nearby conduit. Then warp back to the entrance of the temple. Climb the stairs and try to exit, and you'll be stopped by a group of Shades. Take care of them, then exit the Light Temple, using the Dark Reaver to open the door. ____________________ LEAVING THE CEMETERY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You can now leave the cemetery, but first there are a couple of power-ups to get. Drop down to the ground level and enter the door past the fire. Follow the hallway to the next door, killing the Revenants that try to stop you. Now drop down to the ground level of the main cemetery. Once again, there will be a small army of vampire hunters here. Take care of all of them, heading in the general direction of the Dark Reaver door that leads to Kain's Mausoleum. Also, you should have Phantasmal Tempest by now, which works well against the spellcasters. Once you're through the Dark Reaver door, follow the path and enter the next building, then use your Dark spell to get past the Gargoyles. Pass through the gate in the Spectral Realm, then use the portal to get back to the Material Realm. Then go through the door in the corner of the room and follow the hall to Kain's crypt. To the right of the portrait is a place where you can climb to the higher level. Use the Light Reaver to open the door here, revealing a TK Rune (TKR2). Now go back to the main room, go through the upper door, and drop down near the Light Temple entrance as you did before. Return to the doorway where you started this level the same way you did earlier. Now enter the building where the first level took place. Go down the stairs, and you'll come to the hallway with two raised platforms. One of them has a climbable wall; climb it and jump over to the other one. Unlock the door here with the Light Reaver to get your third Health Talisman, which will increase your health gauge (HTR3). Now return outside. We can finally leave now. Take the left path (if you're facing the building you just came out of). Follow this path all the way to the end, where you'll arrive at the exit door. Use the Light and Dark Reavers to change the color of the orbs on either side, opening the exit. At last, you can leave the cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE PILLARS (In the age of the Sarafan) {KL5} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ______________________ THE PILLARS OF NOSGOTH ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Head down the stairs to find your welcoming committee - about 5 Sarafan guards, including a spellcaster. After they're out of the way, head right. There will be a couple or archers to take care of along the way, then you'll reach the Pillars. After the scene, head past the pillars, on the right side of this area. You'll see a waterfall in the distance, with some platforms in the water before it. Use your TK to pull the archers off the waterfall into the water. Then jump onto the platform and open the container for a Health Talisman (HTK7). Now return to the pillars and take the west (left) path. Mist through the gate into the next area. Follow the path until you come to a ruined stone building. You'll be attacked by a few enemies here, including a new one - the swordsman, dressed in red. These swordsmen are quite proficient at blocking your attacks, so the best way to deal with them is to use aerial combos. When all the enemies on the ground are dead, knock down the pillar to the right of the entrance with your TK. Just on top of it and then use your TK to pull down the archer that's on the higher platform. When he's dead, jump up to the platform and grab the Arcane Tome (ATK5). Across the way, there are several archers and a spellcaster. Either push them back into the spikes with TK, or pull them off the edge. When they're dead, jump over to the walkway they were standing on. There will be a couple of swordsmen on the other side; either kill them with combos and aerial attacks, or use your TK to shove them into the spikes or off the edge. When they're dead, proceed to the next checkpoint. Keep going and approach the Balance Emblem symbol for a scene. We need to find the next piece of the Emblem to continue. ________________ DIMENSION EMBLEM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After the scene, grab the Stone Disc from the pillar to the right of your position. Then head back towards the place where you started the level. There will be some archers as you leave this area. Continue to the stone building and drop down, killing the enemies there. Head back to the Pillars, where you'll be attacked by some Shades. When they're killed, continue back to the starting point. There are also some enemies here. After you take care of them, press Square in front of the stone device on the ground to insert the Stone Disc and raise a pedestal. Turn it twice, then light the torches on either side of the door with your TK. This will open the door, so go through. On the other side, continue a ways and you'll be attacked by more Shades. After that, continue past the checkpoint to get to a partially frozen lake. Walk onto the frozen part and climb the blocks on the far side to find a TK Rune (TKK5). Then target the stone face with your TK to break it, and use your TK on the switch underneath it to extend a few platforms. Climb up onto the block to the left of the switch and jump up onto the first platform. Then jump up and grab the Dimension Emblem. Now we need to go all the way back to the western vista. Go back to the torch door, killing the Shades that attack, and turn the pedestal twice and light the torches to pass. Take care of the enemies on the other side. Then head back to the Pillars and go west, taking out the three swordsmen before misting through the gate. Then head to the stone building and kill the swordsmen there. Jump onto the pillar and climb to the first platform. Use your TK lift to throw the archers onto the spikes on the other side. Jump over there, the keep going until you reach the Balance Emblem vista. Kill the enemies here (using TK to shove them off the cliff works well). Then press Square in front of the Emblem symbol, revealing a bat icon. Use it to end the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - THE PILLARS (500 years later) {RL6} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're back to Raziel now. Jump down the waterfall and swim left to reach land. There is a Health Talisman in plain view here (HTR4). As you approach it, some vampire hunters will attack, including a new enemy - the large vampire hunter. He will be harder to kill because your attacks won't knock him back and stun him as easily as with smaller enemies. Make good use of your dodging abilities to avoid his attacks. After the enemies are dead, continue on. You'll see a quick scene in which a vampire hunter is possessed by another spirit. Take care of these enemies the same as all the others. After that, climb the wall to the right of the locked door and glide onto the ledge above. Follow it around to reach a Light Reaver door. Take care of the Revenants that attack you, then use the Reaver to unlock the door to the Fire Temple. ___________ FIRE TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Drop down into the main entrance room. Go across and climb the wall to the right of the warp portal and turn the pedestal here twice. Then go down and drag the block with the torch on it to the center of the room. Then climb up and turn the pedestal three more times. Now drop down and push the block all the way forward, then hit the TK switch to light the torch. Drag the block back to the center of the room to activate the portal. Use it to get to the Fire Temple. There will be another mural scene here. After it's done, follow the hallway and drop down onto the ground level of the main room. There are some tentacles here that need to be taken care of. You'll notice that the forge is not active yet. You'll need to fight a couple of bosses to activate it. Head right from the forge and pass through the gate here in the Spectral Realm (make sure you're at full or nearly full health before entering). Approach the crypt here to trigger a boss battle with the Conflict Guardian. This boss will summon Shades to attack, so kill them. Also avoid his projectile attacks by dodging to the side. He is only vulnerable when the energy shield around him is gone. So when his shield goes down, rush toward him and execute a couple of ground combos (Perforate Carcass). Just be careful, because he'll release a shockwave when his shield goes back up. Jump to avoid being hit by it. Just keep using your combos when his shield goes down, and he'll eventually die, partially filling up the Fire forge. Exit this room and devour a couple of souls to fill your health. Then enter the next gate, which is below the first one. This boss, the Nature Guardian, is quite a bit easier than the last one, I think. It will use its shield less, giving you more chance to attack. There will be tentacles attacking you during this battle, but just concentrate on the boss. Jump whenever it releases a shockwave, and just keep hacking away with the Reaver until it dies, filling up the forge. Then take care of any remaining tentacles and return to the main room. Directly across from the room you just came from is a portal to the Material Realm (with some souls to refill your health). Use the portal, then go outside and activate the forge to acquire the Fire Reaver. Now you'll need to find four braziers and light them to reactivate the warp portal. The first two are in the room you just came from, where the Material portal was. Light them by pressing Square. Then exit to the main room and go one door to the left. Climb the platforms and enter the room here to find an Arcane Tome in the corner (ATR4). Exit using the door nearby and follow the walkway left to the next room. Some Shades will attack here, so take care of them. Now, you'll notice a TK switch. When you hit it, it will raise braziers on either side of it, which are timed. You need to light both of them quickly. To do this, stand on the rock to the left of the switch and hit it. Then jump over to the nearby brazier and light it. Then jump down and climb the wall on the right of the switch (jump to grab it higher up, so you don't have to climb the whole way). Light the brazier up here to activate the portal. To get there, go outside and follow the path to the left, entering the door here. Follow the path left to reach the portal and use it to return to the entrance. Then exit back to the Pillars area. ___________ THE PILLARS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Outside, you'll be welcomed by some Revenants. Kill them, then follow the ledge around and jump down to the locked door. Turn the pedestal twice and light the braziers on either side of the door to open it. Go through to meet a few vampire hunters, including one of the big guys. You should recognize this area from the last level; head over to the Pillars for a cut-scene. After the scene, head past the Pillars to meet some vampire hunters. Kill them, then look to the right of the path to find a TK Rune (TKR3). Then follow the path to a checkpoint. Climb up onto the rocks and get the Arcane Tome (ATR5). Approach the Bronze Disc towards the back, and you'll have to deal with some more vampire hunters. After they're dead, you can take the Bronze Disc. Now return to the pillars and take the left path. You'll be attacked by a couple groups of vampire hunters on the way. When you get to the gate, use the Bronze Disc to unlock it. On the other side, you'll have to deal with some more hunters, and even more when you reach the stone building at the end of the path. After taking care of the enemies, climb onto the lower pillar, then jump onto the higher one. Now shift to the Spectral Realm and jump over to the walkway above. Kill the Sluagh if you want, then shift back to the Material Realm. There will be some more enemies up here; just use your TK to shove them off the edge. Follow the path to another checkpoint. Take care of the large vampire hunter in this area, then climb back up the stairs to the checkpoint. Then climb onto the rocks on the right and glide over to the Fire Reaver door. Kill some more of those annoying Shades, then unlock the door to enter the Air Temple. __________ AIR TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Inside, grab the large block on the left side of the portal and drag it right. Then hit the TK switch that was behind it. Now go to the other block on the right of the portal and drag it left. Then stand on the air jet in front of the portal and press Square to activate it. The current will carry you up; at the top, press X to glide onto the platform and take the Howling Heartstone. Just down and place it in the pedestal. On the left, hit the TK switch, then drag that block back too. Now drag the block on the right back where it was to start with. This will activate the portal. Use it to enter the Air Temple. After another mural scene, jump down the hole in the floor and head towards the main room. You'll have to take care of some Revenants before you can get there. When you do get there, there will be a few Tentacles to kill. There is only one gate to go through; pass into the Spectral Realm and go through the gate to fight another boss. This boss will launch projectiles, which don't do much damage, but dodge them if you can. The boss will flash, then split into two separate bodies. Only one is the real one. Run up and attack one of the bosses. If it's a fake one, it will disappear. If it's the real boss, it will take damage. After a while, the boss will split into three or four separate bodies, but the strategy is the same. After the boss is defeated, exit to the main room and kill some Sluagh to fill up your health. Then return to the boss room and go through the opening to the left of the crypt. Climb the wall inside. At the top, follow the path and pass through the gate (don't go down the hole yet). There will be a checkpoint and a portal back to the Material Realm. Use it, then follow the hallway to the end to find a Health Talisman (HTR5). Then return to the Spectral Realm, pass through the gate, and drop down the hole you passed earlier. Approach the crypt to fight another boss. This boss is fairly easy; his only attack is the standard projectile. He will shoot a few times, then lower his shield. Take this opportunity to deliver a Cadaverous Laceration. Then he'll teleport to another location and repeat the process. You shouldn't have any trouble defeating him. When he's dead, return to the main room the same way you came here. Kill any remaining Sluagh, then enter the only open door to find a portal to the Material Realm. Use it. Go outside and use the forge to imbue the Reaver with the Air element. Now you've got reactivate the portal. Use the Air Reaver on the circle in front of the forge to activate an updraft. At the top, glide to the platform in front of you. There are two statues here, with elemental symbols on them. Turn the left one three times so that the Dark symbol is in front. Then hit the TK switch to reveal a Dark orb. Use the Light Reaver to light it up. One down. Go back outside and turn the right statue once, then turn the left statue three times so the Light symbol is facing out. Hit the switch again, then use the Dark Reaver on the orb that is revealed. Now go back down to the ground level. To the left of the open doorway is a climbable wall; climb to the top and glide over to the brazier. Light it. Then go back down to the right side of the doorway and activate the air draft. This will let you reach the last brazier, which you need to light to activate the warp portal. Return to the portal by going through the open doorway, the climbing the wall up. Use the portal to return to the entrance. Then exit back outside. ___________________ LEAVING THE PILLARS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Jump down to the ground and kill the vampire hunters. The easiest way is to just TK them into the water. Then climb to the upper level and kill them rest of them. Then go back to the stone building area and kill the hunters there. Return to the Pillars. You'll have to kill even more vampire hunters here. Head over to where you got the Bronze Disc, killing all the hunters that get in your way. At the end of the path, use the Air Reaver to activate the updraft that will carry you to the end of the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE VAMPIRE CITADEL {KL7} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___________ THE CITADEL ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When you gain control of Kain, walk to the center of the room to trigger a fight with some Shades. Then go through the doorway and follow the stairway to the bottom. When you get to the hallway at the bottom, you'll be attacked by a couple of tentacles, then even more Shades. Mist through the gate at the end to find yourself outside. There will be a checkpoint here. You'll meet a new enemy, a hunter. The strategy for beating these guys is the same for all the other enemies - just use ground or aerial combos, and be careful of their projectile attacks. Take the path to the right and continue on a ways. Before you can reach the next area, a gate will close and you'll have to fight several hunters before you can enter the next room, where there will be a cut-scene. After the scene, go back and look in the left corner of this area to find an Arcane Tome (ATK6). Then continue on to the next hallway, taking care of the hunters here, too. In the next area, there's a door locked by an Emblem which we don't have yet. So for now, go down the path to the right of the door to find a checkpoint and the Wheel of Life. After you take it, the hunters in this area will awaken, so kill them. Now you need to return to the first outdoor area, using the same path you took to get here. There will be plenty of hunters along the way that need to be taken out. When you reach the first gate, insert the Wheel of Life into the lock to open it. On the other side is a checkpoint and some Shades. Below you, there are some more hunters that you need to kill. After they're dead, take the left path to find an alcove containing a Health Talisman (HTK8). Then take the other path to find some more Shades. When they've been taken care of, climb onto the ledge and use the long jump to leap across the gap. Then enter the warp portal here. ____________ LIGHT TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You'll find yourself on the lower level of the Light Temple, along with some hunters. When they're dead, go outside to the main room, where you'll have to fight another stone statue. Use the same tactics as you did with Raziel - get close, let him swing his sword, jump back to avoid it, give him a combo, and repeat. When he's dead, enter the room to the left of where you came in; there is an Arcane Tome here (ATK7). Then enter the room to the right of where you came in, kill the hunter, and climb the wall. Drop down on the other side and exit the hallway onto the upper walkway, where you'll be attacked by more hunters. Follow the walkway all the way to the right, and mist through the gate. Then you can enter the portal here without having to kill the hunters. ___________ FIRE TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After the quick scene, go outside and follow the walkway to the left, entering the first room you come to. You'll be attacked by some Shades along the way. In this room, open the container to get a TK Rune (TKK6). After you get it, go outside and drop down to the main level and kill the hunters there. Then enter the open doorway on the left and climb the ledges. Kill the hunters in the next room if you want, then enter the portal to reach the Water Temple. ____________ WATER TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Mist through the gate here, then follow the walkway around to the left, past the next gate, and enter the first open doorway you come to. Inside, enter the hallway to the left and get the Health Talisman at the end, which will increase your health gauge again (HTK9). Go back outside, kill the Shades, and drop down to the ground level. Hit the TK switch to reveal a ladder, which you can climb to the upper level to exit. Don't use it yet, though. Instead, go to the right and break the wall here, then enter and kill the hunters. Then take the Rusted Scales from the pedestal. Then go back outside, go to the right, and break the next wall. On the other side, kill the hunters and take the Carved Stone Skull. Go outside and continue to the right to a locked door. Place the artifacts in the door to open it. Inside, light the two torches on the far wall with your TK to drain the water. Drop down into the pit and hit the TK switch to extend a platform. Climb onto it and take the Lightning Emblem. After you get it, some Shades will attack, including two giant Shades. These are the same as regular Shades except they're much larger and can take more damage. Use your special attacks to kill them. Go back outside and kill all the tentacles and hunters waiting for you. Then enter the doorway under the TK switch and climb the ladder. In the next room, you'll have to fight another statue. Just use the same strategy as before to defeat him, then exit this room. Go around the walkway to the right, killing the hunters as you go, and unlock the Lightning Emblem door. Inside, you'll have to fight a fire statue. These statues shoot fireballs at you, so enter combat mode and dodge them. Don't attack it when its shield is up, or you will take damage. Wait for its shield to go down, then deliver a couple of quick combos. Then back off and repeat the process until it dies. When it's dead, enter the warp portal to return to the Fire Temple. ___________ FIRE TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When you arrive, you'll have to fight two statues at once. Luckily, they move slowly and are fairly dumb. Concentrate on attacking one of them until the other one reaches you. Then back off, and they'll be very close together. Then move in so they will swing their swords. If you back off, their swords will hit one another, stunning them. Then you can give them a combo or two. Just stay clear of their sword attacks and you'll do fine. When they're dead, head out the door and jump down, then go outside to the main room. Kill the hunters, then enter the open doorway on the right and climb the wall. Drop down on the other side and follow the hallway to the room with the portal. Now you'll have to fight two fire statues. The important thing is to concentrate on one at a time. Dodge the fireballs as best as you can, but don't worry too much if you get hit a few times. Just concentrate on attacking one of them when its shield is down. Once you kill the first one, you can kill the second one much more easily. When they're finished, enter the portal to return to the Light Temple. ____________ LIGHT TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Mist through the gate, drop down to the main level, and enter the center doorway. Use the portal to return to the Citadel. Fortunately, you don't have to bother with any statues this time. ___________ THE CITADEL ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Long jump back across the gap, then jump down from the ledge and follow the path back towards that locked gate. There won't be any hunters on the way. When you unlock the gate, the level ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - VORADOR'S MANSION {RL8} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___________ THE MANSION ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Start out by walking across the courtyard, up the stairs, and try to open the door into the mansion. You'll be attacked by two statues. Use the same tactics with them as before - dodge their slow sword strikes, then move in and deliver a few quick blows, then repeat the process. And remember that they will accidentally hit each other if they're close enough together. When both of the statues are dead, the window on the second level of the mansion will crack, and some rubble will fall, allowing you to climb up to that level. Climb up the rubble and break the window open with the Reaver. Then shift into the Spectral Realm and go through it. Drop down and follow the hallway on either side of the room until you reach a large room with pillars, the main hall of the mansion. At the far end of the main hall is a portal back to the Material Realm. Use it. As you start to explore this room, you'll be attacked by about six Revenants. Dispose of them, then climb the stairs on the side of the room and go through either of the doors there. Follow the hallway, killing the Revenants that get in your way, until you reach a circular room with some inanimate statues. Hit the TK switch above the door here to expose torches on either side of the door. Quickly light them with the Fire Reaver before they turn back around to open the door into the fountain room. You'll be attacked by a few tentacles in here. After they've been dealt with, go to the back of the room and use the Air Reaver to activate an air draft, taking you up to the second level of the room. Go forward to activate a checkpoint and a short scene. Now we're going to have to find three artifacts in order to activate the portal below. _____________ BLOOD DRINKER ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Use the Fire Reaver to open the door on the left side of the room. Inside, kill the Revenants and follow the hallway. You'll see a short scene in which Raziel will recognize the mural at the end of the hall. There's nothing we can do about that yet, so enter the Spectral Realm and pass through the gate. Follow the passage, down the stairs, and out into a courtyard. Here, you'll be attacked by a few flying monsters; use aerial combos to take them down. Then go down the stairs to the right of the door you entered from. Follow this path to reach a Material Realm portal that you can use. Well, this door is where you'll find Vorador, but in order to open it we have to find the Water Reaver first. So for now, go back up the hill into the courtyard, killing a few Revenants on the way and even more when you reach the top. At the top, climb onto the broken pillar in the center of the area, then jump onto the top of the broken structure. Then jump once more to the other side of the structure. From here, aim a TK bolt at the window in front of you, then glide into the opening. Inside is a checkpoint, and yes, more Revenants. When you reach the intersection, take a left to find a TK Rune (TKR4). Then take the other path, kill the Revenants in this room, and use the Fire Reaver to light the braziers on either side of the fireplace to extinguish the flame. Break the wall on the other side and enter the Spectral Realm and pass through the gate. Now, I'd recommend saving your game before you try these jumps, because missing a jump will kill you. First, jump to the ledge in front of the one Raziel is standing on. From there, jump (don't glide) and pull up onto the small, circular pillar in front of you. From this pillar, you can either try to aim a jump at the next pillar, then jump from there to the next ledge, or you can take a big jump and glide directly to the ledge. From this ledge, go left and jump to the next ledge, where there is a portal to the Material Realm. Use it, then hop back to the ledge to your right and go through the door. On the other side is a checkpoint. Follow the hallway through several rooms, killing a couple groups of those obnoxious Revenants on the way. After the Revenants are dead, go through the door at the end. Okay, now we need to find 6 Dark Orbs and use the Light Reaver on them in order to get the artifact. Here are their locations: - Drop down to the lower level. There's a painting hanging on the wall below where you entered; break it with the Reaver and light the orb behind it. - On the lower level, in plain sight near the vampire statue is another orb. - Go up the stairs near this orb. When you reach the basin of soul energy, glide out away from the balcony and over to the balcony on the left. Light the orb there. - Break the table in the middle of the room with the Reaver to reveal a square pressure pad. Near the table is a statue of a vampire; drag it onto the pressure pad to extinguish the fire in the fireplace. Light the orb there. - Go up the other set of stairs, to the left side of the room. Towards the end, you'll see a bookcase with handles on it. Drag that bookcase out and to the side to reveal an orb. - Now the hard one. To the right of the door you entered from is a climbable wall. Climb it and jump onto the pillar near the top, then jump onto the platform with spikes on the bottom. Now you need to hit the TK switch at the end to flip over the spiked platforms. Quickly jump (don't glide) from platform to platform and glide onto the chandelier at the end to reach the last orb. This can be tricky, and it may take a few tries to get the jumps right. Once all the orbs are lit, claim the Blood Drinker spear from the vampire statue. Now you need to get back to the fountain room. Leave this room and go through the next hall, then drop down to the ground level of the main hall. Approach one of the doors leading to the fountain room and you'll awaken three statues. You should know how to deal with them by now. When they're finished, return through the hallway to the fountain room, taking care of the Revenants on the way. When you get to the fountain room, use the Air Reaver to get to the upper level, then press Square in front of the left statue to use the Blood Drinker spear. You'll notice that the mural behind the statue cracks; the same has happened with the other similar murals. If you break open this wall, you'll find a basin of soul energy. You now need to find the second spear. ____________ HEART SEEKER ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Go around to the other side of the walkway and open the Air Reaver door. Inside are some Shades, and more Shades will attack as you go down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, you'll reach a room with a pool and some Revenants. Kill the Revenants (an easy way is to TK them into the water), then jump into the water. At the bottom of the pool is a gate, so switch to the Spectral Realm and pass through it. On the other side is one of those annoying flying monsters, so take care of it. Then climb the scalable wall to the upper level. Head to the left, kill the flying monster here, and shift back to the Spectral Realm. Approach the door for a short cut-scene, followed by a Revenant attack. When they've been killed, go through the door on the right side of the room. Follow this hallway into the next room, where there are some stairs on the far side. Climb them, the glide the scalable wall in front of you. Go through the doorway here and into the next room, where you can jump onto the lowest ledge. From there, jump to the next highest ledge and then glide to the next ledge. Jump to grab onto the scalable wall and climb to the top, where you can jump off onto the ledge behind. Follow that ledge around and you'll see a window. Break the window with TK, which will also knock down a statue in the courtyard below. Jump to the window and pass through in the Spectral Realm. At the far end of this balcony is a portal to the Material Realm. Use it, then jump onto the pillar directly in front of you. From this pillar, jump and glide directly to your right to reach the next pillar. Now shift to the Spectral Realm. The next jump is a bit tricky; you're aiming for the pillar on the far side of the courtyard, below and to the left of your position. Glide to that pillar, then jump/glide to the next pillar nearby, and from there to the opposite balcony. If you miss a jump at any point here, you'll need to go to the upper-right corner of the courtyard, where the statue fell earlier. Use it to climb back up to the first balcony and try again. Once you're on the opposite balcony, go to the right side and enter the doorway there. Deal with the Sluagh, then go down the staircase and kill some more Sluagh. There is a Material Realm portal in the next room for you to use. From there, keep following the hallway and go through the door at the end, where there is a checkpoint. This time, there are 6 Light Orbs that need to be turned dark. And this time, it's a bit more difficult to get to them. There are several gargoyles in this room which prevent access to the orbs. So you'll need to charge the Dark Reaver using the stones on either side of the entrance door and cast the spell to make yourself invisible. Here are where the orbs are: - The first window pane on the right side of the screen is breakable. Break it, then charge the Dark Reaver and cast the invisibility spell. Now you can jump through the broken window and darken the orb on the other side. - Behind the vampire statue is a freebie in plain sight; just use the Dark Reaver on it. - Charge the Dark Reaver again and make yourself invisible. Now you can climb the wall to the left of the vampire statue and darken the orb at the top. - Charge the Dark Reaver and make yourself invisible. Then you can access the orb inside the fireplace, which is behind you and to the right if you're facing the vampire statue. - Hit the TK switch behind the vampire statue, which lowers the chandelier. Get on it and wait for it to rise to the top of the room. From there, jump to your left, where there is an orb on the side of the wall. Just as you reach the orb, swing the Reaver to darken it. - Charge the Dark Reaver and ride the chandelier up again. This time, cast the invisibility spell. Then jump onto the platform in front of you, and hop from one platform to the next until you reach the end. Remember to jump, not glide, from platform to platform. If you just jump, pressing forward the whole time, you'll make it to the next platform. Darken the orb at the end. Now you can take the Heart Seeker from the vampire statue. Time to head back to the fountain room. Exit this room and follow the path back out to the courtyard (you'll have to kill some Revenants on the way). Drop down to the lower area of the courtyard, then climb up and pass through the broken window in the Spectral Realm as you did before. Head to the main hall, where you can materialize. Once again, take one of the side doors and head down the Revenant-filled hallway towards the fountain room. This time, the three statues will animate and you'll have to destroy them before you can enter the fountain room. This time, climb up and press Square in front of the right statue to use the Heart Seeker. Two down, one to go. If you want, break the wall behind the statue to reveal a soul basin. Time to get the last spear, which requires you to first acquire Vorador's Crest. ____________ SOUL STEALER ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Enter the Fire Reaver door again (the way you went to get the Blood Drinker). After killing the Revenants, you'll notice that the mural here is cracked, allowing you to break it and proceed easily to the outdoor area. Once there, you'll be attacked by a horde of Revenants, so kill them. There will also be a short scene showing the cracked mural on the right side of this area. Break it open and drop down into the pit. Climb up through the pipe into what looks like a sewer. Follow this path to the next room. Here, there is a TK switch that raises platforms from the water, which are tightly timed. So hit the switch and quickly jump forward onto the first platform. From there, jump and glide to the next platform, then the next. If you have to take the time to pull up onto the platform, you'll need to be quick in order to make it in time. Try to glide at the top of your jump to go as far as possible. If you fall, simple swim back to the entrance, jump up into the doorway and try again. Once you get to the other side, take the Half of Vorador's Crest. Head back out the way you came, dealing with the obligatory Revenant attack on the way. Climb up out of the pit and into the outdoor area. Yay, more Revenants! Take care of them and proceed back towards the fountain room. Back in the fountain room, go around the walkway and enter the Air Reaver door. Go down the stairs, killing the Shades that pop up on each landing and the Revenants at the bottom. Then break open the mural to the right of where you entered. Cross the next room and go through the door, then follow the hallway to the room with the stairs. Instead of going up the stairs, break open the mural to the left of them. Go through the opening and follow the hall to a room with four large pillars. If you look at the illustration on the wall, you can see which symbols need to be facing inward on each pillar. Turn the leftmost pillar twice so that the Air symbol is facing inward. Turn the second pillar three times to the Fire symbol is facing inward. Turn the third pillar once to reveal the Earth symbol, and the rightmost pillar twice to reveal the Water symbol. This will raise the circular platform in the middle of the room. Stand on it and it will rise to the top of the room, allowing you to glide forward and take the other Half of Vorador's Crest. Now leave this room and return to the locked door in the second room with the pool. Press Square twice to insert both pieces of Vorador's Crest and unlock the door. Follow the passage into room with a checkpoint in the middle. Outside this room is a charge stone, so charge up your Fire Reaver if necessary. Then stand on the checkpoint, in the middle of all the torches, and cast a fire spell (hold and release Square) to light them all. This will cause the Soul Stealer to materialize in the vampire statue's hands. But of course, the two fire statues animate before you can take it. Use the same strategy with these statues as you did with Kain - dodge their fireballs until they lower their shields, then give them a quick combo. Once they're both destroyed, you can claim the Soul Stealer. Before heading back to the fountain room, take a detour to get a Health Talisman and an Arcane Tome. Head back through the door into the room where you got half of Vorador's Crest. Climb the stairs here and climb the wall, then jump onto the low platform in the next room. Here you'll find a wall which is now cracked. Break it open to reveal a Health Talisman (HTR6). Keep following this path exactly as you did before you reach the room where you got the Heart Seeker. After you enter through the door, go up the stairs and you can now break the painting to the right of the Earth Reaver door to find an Arcane Tome (ATR6). Now return to the fountain room - exit back to the main courtyard and go into the main hall. At the main hall, you can break open the painting on the left side of the entrance to find another Health Talisman (HTR7). Continue back to the fountain room. Now you can use the Soul Stealer on the third fountain to activate the portal down below. At last! Before you drop down to the lower level, break the wall behind the third statue to find a TK Rune (TKR5). When you're ready, jump into the pool in the fountain room to be transported to the Water Temple. ____________ WATER TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After the mural cut-scene, proceed down the hall to a checkpoint. Then pass through the gate in the Spectral Realm and drop down to the lower level of the temple. Now you'll have to fight two bosses at once. The strategy for defeating them is pretty much the same as the last bosses you fought - dodge their projectiles and hit them when their shields are down. If you get low on health, there are some Sluagh around that you can kill and devour to replenish your health. It's best if you focus on one boss at a time; that way you can deal with the second one alone. Once the bosses have been defeated, clean up any remaining Sluagh and then enter the room behind and to the left of the forge (when facing the forge). Use the portal in there to return to the Material Realm. There is a Health Talisman in this room in the corner opposite the portal (HTR8). Go outside and use the forge to acquire the Water Reaver. Now we need to get out of here. Enter the room to the left of the door obstructed by rubble. There are two braziers in here that need to be extinguished with the Water Reaver. Then go back outside to the main room. Approach either of the two waterfalls and use the Water Reaver to freeze it so that you can climb it. When you reach the landing, freeze and climb the second waterfall to reach another brazier. Put out the fire. Drop down from the waterfall and enter the door to the left of it. There is a torch here to be extinguished. After extinguishing it, stay on the platform and shift to the Spectral Realm. Now you can reach the doorway above; go through and drop down into the next room. Use the portal to get back to the Material Realm, then extinguish the last brazier. Go back to the Spectral Realm and pass through the gate to exit, then pass through the next gate to the right, where you entered from. In the next hallway is a portal for you to use. You'll be met by some Shades; take care of them, then follow the hallway to the portal, which will take you back to Vorador's Mansion. _______ VORADOR ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Now you can finally get to Vorador. Go through the Fire Reaver door on the upper level of the fountain room. Follow the passageway down to the outdoor area, killing the Revenants that you meet along the way. Head down the hill toward that door that couldn't be opened before. Now you can open it. To do so, charge the Fire Reaver on the nearby stone and stand in the middle of all the braziers. Cast a fire spell to light them all. Then use the Water Reaver to extinguish the three braziers with blue symbols in front of them. This will open the door. Go inside to see a cut-scene. After the scene, you'll receive the Library Seal. Time to leave the mansion; your destination is the library where you found the Blood Drinker. Climb up the circular staircase to the top and go back outside. At the top of the hill, climb the broken stone structure, then jump into the window. Follow the hallway and pass through the gate in the fireplace in the Spectral Realm. Jump across the ledges and pillars as you did before, and use the portal on the ledge to the left of the door. Go through the door and follow the hallways to the library. You'll meet Vorador once more here. After the cut-scene, climb the stairs to the left of the vampire statue. You'll notice a broken window here; break it and take the Arcane Tome on the other side (ATR7). Then place the Library Key in the door behind the statue, and go out onto the balcony to depart for Avernus Cathedral. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE VAMPIRE CITADEL (PART 2) {KL9} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to Kain now. From your starting point, go forward and drop off the ledge. Kill the Shades and hunters, then use the long jump circle to leap across the gap. Follow the ledge around and enter the portal. ____________ EARTH TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There will be a cut-scene when you first arrive. After it's finished, go outside to the main room and kill all the hunters. You can't get into the rooms that are guarded by gargoyles from here, so open the door that's locked with the Balance Emblem and go through. Inside is a pillar for you to break with TK. Climb up into the room above. It seems we need to find an orb to power the warp gate here. But first, take care of the fire statue that animates. After it's been destroyed, proceed through the door that opens and into the hallway beyond, killing the Shades that attack. The door at the end of the hall is locked; instead, drop down the opening on the left side of the hallway, about halfway down the hall. Kill the Shades at the bottom and take the Earth Globe from the pedestal. Beyond the pedestal is a cracked wall; break it down and enter the room beyond to find a Health Talisman (HTK10). Exit this room to the lower level of the temple and climb back up to the hallway with the locked door the way you came. Use the Earth Globe to unlock it. On the other side is a checkpoint and a warp gate to the Dark Temple. Use it. ___________ DARK TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Pass through the gate and drop down to the lower level. You'll now have to deal with hunters and two animated statues. I'd recommend killing the hunters first, since the statues are much slower and shouldn't be able to hit you if you stay away from them. Once they've been killed, the doors on this level will reopen. Enter the leftmost open door and climb the ladder, then drop into the hallway below. Kill the Shades that attack, then head down the hall (towards the screen) to find a broken teleporter. Take the Sphere of Energy out of its stand near the teleporter. Two statues will then attack, so deal with them. Mist through the gate and enter the door on the left of where you came from. There is a TK Rune here (TKK7). Get it, then use the long jump circle to leap across the room. Pass through the gate here. Kill the hunters if you want, then reenter the portal to get back to the Earth Temple. ____________ EARTH TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Two statues will animate as soon as you arrive. Kill them, then pass through the gate into the main room of the temple. Drop down to the ground level and enter the door that leads to the broken teleporter (it's to the left of the gargoyle doors). Place the Sphere of Energy in the pedestal and use the portal to be taken to the Air Temple. __________ AIR TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ A single statue will animate upon your arrival, so dispose of it. Afterwards, there will be a short cut-scene. Then exit this room and drop down to the bottom floor, killing the hunters that attack. Then pass through the only gated door, killing a couple more hunters inside. To the left of the coffin is a cracked wall; knock it down and go through, then climb the wall into the upper hallway. Some Shades will attack, so take care of them, then follow the hallway to the end, where there is a teleporter. Two statues will attack, so kill them. Before entering the teleporter, go down the short hallway beyond it to get an Arcane Tome (ATK8). You'll be attacked by a mob of Shades, so kill them. Then enter the teleporter to be transported to the Light Temple. ____________ LIGHT TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The emblem is right in front of you, but some gargoyles prevent you from taking it. Hit the TK switch next to the gargoyle on the left, then run up and use the Balance Emblem beneath it. Then do the same with the gargoyle on the right. This will block the middle gargoyle's sight, allowing you to take the Time Emblem. Use the emblem on the door underneath the middle gargoyle to open the door. Drop down to the lower level and enter the middle of the three open doorways to be taken back to the Vampire Citadel. ___________ THE CITADEL ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Long jump across the gap, then follow the path back towards the main area of the citadel. Some Shades will attack when you reach the checkpoint. Continue forward to the main courtyard of the citadel, where the sealed door is. Now that the Balance Emblem is complete, you can enter the door. After the cut- scene, take the Health Talisman near you (HTK11). Then jump into the portal. Three large Shades will attack when you arrive. Kill them, taking care not to fall into the pool of water in the center of the room. Then exit this chamber back to the citadel. Head down and to the left to see a short cut-scene, then use the bat flight circle here to travel to Avernus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - AVERNUS CATHEDRAL {RL10} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The scene switches back to Raziel. Head forward to the end of the cathedral and take either of the two doorways on the side of the cathedral. Follow the hall to a Water Reaver door. Open it to enter the Earth Temple. ____________ EARTH TEMPLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Drop down and approach the pedestal in the center of the room to awaken two of the statues. After they are destroyed, some platforms will materialize and the other two statues will animate. Kill them to activate a couple more platforms. Then climb the stairs and use the platforms to reach the upper level, where you can take the Obsidian Sphere. Place it in the pedestal at the bottom to activate the teleporter. Take it to the Earth Temple. There will be another mural cut-scene when you arrive. After it's done, follow the hallway to a checkpoint. There is a TK Rune next to the gate here (TKR6). Get it, then shift to the Spectral Realm and pass through the gate. Drop down to the lower level. Now you'll have to fight two bosses at a time, just like in the Water Temple. This time is a bit easier, though, because there are souls for you to devour instead of Sluagh. Focus on one boss at a time, dodging projectiles and attacking when his shield is down. Once the first boss is dead, repeat the procedure for the second one. Then enter the left of the two open doorways to return to the Material Realm. As you try to exit the room, some Revenants will attack, so deal with them and then exit. Well, the portal is active, but the forge is shielded, so you'll need to deactivate that. After the scene, some tentacles will attack, so kill them. The two other open doors are guarded by gargoyles. There is a charge stone in the room you just came from, so charge the Dark Reaver up. Make yourself invisible, then enter the right gargoyle door. Inside is a Light Orb for you to darken. This will dispel part of the barrier around the forge. Charge the Reaver and cast the invisibility spell again if the first one has worn off, then enter the left gargoyle door. In the far left corner of this room is an opening leading to a waterfall. Freeze the waterfall and climb up into the hallway above. Head back down the hall (towards the screen) to another room with a hole in the corner. Drop down the hole into a room with a Dark Orb. Kill the Revenants that attack, then light the orb to dispel the barrier. Return to the main room the way you came and use the forge to acquire the Earth Reaver. Use the Earth Reaver on the symbol on the floor to summon three platforms. These are timed, so quickly use them to jump onto the platform with the long jump circle. Light the two braziers here. From the edge of this platform, jump to grab the ledge above you and pull up onto it. Use the Air Reaver to get to the room above. Turn the left statue three times so the Air symbol is facing out. Then turn the right statue once so the Air symbol is out. Hit the TK switch between the statues to open the left door. Go through and extinguish the torch. Then go back to the statues and turn them both twice so the Fire symbol is facing out. Hit the TK switch to open the right door and extinguish the torch in there. Now go back outside to the platform with the air jet on it. Jump from that platform to the left (towards the screen), where there is another ledge with two unlit braziers. Light them to activate the exit portal. Jump back to the upper ledge, then down to other lower ledge where you lit the braziers first. Enter the Spectral Realm and pass through the gate and follow the hall to a Material Realm portal. Use it, then teleport out of the Earth Temple. Go up the stairs and through the Water Reaver door to get back to Avernus Cathedral. _____________ THE CATHEDRAL ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Head back to the main cathedral, where you'll be attacked by some guards. One of the guards is a spellcaster; be sure to take him out first before he summons a Fire Demon. Then kill the other guards. If the spellcaster manages to summon a demon, you're going to have a tough fight on your hands. Dodge the fire he spits and his punches, and combo him in between his attacks. Once the enemies are out of the way, use the Earth Reaver on the symbol on the floor to create some platforms. Climb these platforms to the upper level and follow the walkway to a Health Talisman (HTR9). Kill the guards that attack, then take the Dark Scripture from the stand at the end of the hallway. Then jump down to the lower level of the cathedral. Go to the far end of the cathedral and place the Dark Scripture on the stand in the center. Then approach the portal that appears and press Square to enter it. _________________ AVERNUS CATACOMBS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Follow the passageway to a larger room, where there is a cut-scene. After it's done, take the Arcane Tome to the right of your position (ATR8). As you try to leave this room using the doorway to the right, a couple of spellcasters will attack. One of them will probably be able to summon a Fire Demon before you can kill them both, so refer to the strategy two paragraphs above to kill the demon if it's your first time facing one. When the enemies are gone, proceed down the hallway to the right until you reach another large room, where there are two more spellcasters. Defeat them as you did before. Keep going through the catacombs until you trigger another revealing cut-scene. Afterwards, go through the door at the end of the hall for another scene. After the scene, your first real boss fight will begin. BOSS: TUREL Turel will fire projectiles at you like the other Guardian bosses you've fought before; just run around and jump to avoid them. He'll also charge at you and launch waves of energy along the ground, both of which are easy to avoid by jumping out of the way. Once in a while, a circle of energy will begin converging on Raziel. You'll also notice one of the four gongs on the wall resonating at that time. Aim a TK bolt at the resonating gong to stun Turel, allowing you to damage him. Run up and combo him until he recovers, and repeat the process. Make sure you try to keep all four gongs in view, so you can easily aim and hit the one that resonates. As his health decreases, he will start launching projectiles 2 or 3 at a time, but they're not difficult to avoid. When his health is very low, all four gongs will start resonating; hit them all and then finish Turel off. Also, if you run low on health, there are a couple basins of Soul Energy you can use. After you defeat the boss, Raziel will receive Turel's telekinetic abilities, giving him the same TK power as Kain. This will allow you to break the pillar on the right side of the pit and climb the wall up to the top. At the top, you will meet Mortanius. After the scene, you will switch over to Kain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - AVERNUS CATHEDRAL (PART 2) {KL11} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the cut-scene, you will control Kain fighting an opponent whose identity I won't spoil. Your opponent has basically the same abilities as you - basic combos, ground and aerial combos, and telekinesis. Use your TK holds to bring your opponent in closer, then use combos and special skills to damage him (Cadaverous Laceration works quite well). Repeat this process until he falls. After another scene, you will switch back over to Raziel. First of all, take the time to enjoy the awesome background music. Otherwise, treat this fight just as you did the last; use a TK hold to pull your opponent toward you, then use Perforate Carcass when he's still in the air to damage him easily. This battle seems a bit tougher than the last to me, but you shouldn't have too much difficulty. After the battle is a cut-scene, and you'll have the Heart of Darkness in your inventory. When it's finished, head out of the cathedral and choose to return to Vorador's Mansion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - VORADOR'S MANSION (PART 2) {RL12} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the cut-scene, you'll have to deal with some vampire hunters. The strategy for defeating them is the same as before. After they're dead, break the cracked wall on the right side of the room on the lower level and go down the stairs beyond. At the landing is another cracked wall. Break it open and kill the vampire hunters that attack. When they're dead, take the upper (left) stairs to emerge in the fountain room. Drop down and take the Health Talisman near the left Air icon, when facing the exit (HTR10). Exit this room and kill the Revenants that attack. Follow the hallway out to the main hall of the mansion. You'll be greeted by a bunch of vampire hunters. You can kill them easily by using TK to throw them onto the spikes on the pillars. When they're dead, climb the stairs to the top, where there is an Arcane Tome (ATR9). Then use your TK to break the glowing pillar on the ground level, opening a path to the second level. Climb the wall near where the pillar fell and jump to the walkway above. Break open the boarded-up door and enter it. Kill the vampire hunters that attack on the other side, then open the Earth Reaver door and go through. There are more vampire hunters here. Also, you may see some of the dead enemies become possessed by Hylden, in which case you'll need to kill them again. When the enemies are dead, jump through the broken window (there was an orb here before) and take the TK Rune (TKR7). Then exit through the lower door. Follow the hallway, killing the Revenants on the way. In the next room, climb the stairs and exit through the window to find yourself in the main courtyard. Drop down to the ground. Kill the vampire hunters here, then go up the stairs and inside the mansion. You'll notice the statue is glowing; knock it down with TK and claim the Health Talisman behind it (HTR11). Then go back out to the courtyard. The back-left pillar can be knocked over with TK, revealing an Air icon below it. Use this to jet up onto the balcony, then jump/glide from the balcony onto the pillar, which is now leaning to one side. This allows you to glide onto the opposite pillar, and from there to the opposite end of the balcony. Head toward the mansion to activate a checkpoint. Notice the glowing statue to the right; knock it down with TK, allowing you to climb up to the window. Pass through the window in the Spectral Realm. Drop down to the bottom level, where there are three monsters waiting. These are new enemies, which can drain your health if they attack you, similar to the flying monsters. Just use ground combos to kill them, and remember to attack any monster that starts to suck your health. Go through to the next room, where there is a portal beneath the stairs at the bottom of the room. Use it to return to the Material Realm. Then exit this room and follow the hallway to one of the rooms with a pool in it. Some Hylden enemies will pop out of the wall next to the prisoners; use TK to throw them into the water to defeat them easily. Then jump into the water yourself and equip the Earth Reaver to make Raziel sink. You can now walk on the bottom of the room. Shift to the Spectral Realm and kill the monsters, then pass through the gate in the corner of the room to get Raziel's last Arcane Tome (ATR10). Then climb the wall back to the top and use the portal on the left side of the room to return to the Material Realm. Equip the Earth Reaver and jump in the water again. This time, break the cracked wall on the right side of the room and go through. You're now in the room where you got a half of Vorador's Crest earlier. On the right side of the room are two pillars; drag them both onto the pressure pads in the corners to open the gate between them, allowing you to take the last TK Rune for Raziel (TKR8). Then unequip the Earth Reaver and surface. Swim to the end of the room and jump out into the doorway. Follow the sewer to the other end and climb out of the pit to emerge in the outdoor area near Janos's crypt. Almost there. Some Hylden will attack, so kill them. Then climb onto the broken stone structure and glide into the window. Here, you'll find your last Health Talisman (HTR12). Then head down the hill toward Janos's crypt, taking care of the enemies on the way. Inside the building, open the door behind the throne, then go down the stairs and use the Heart of Darkness on Janos Audron. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAZIEL - THE VAMPIRE CITADEL {RL13} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Janos gives you the Golden Ouroboros when the level begins. Your destination is the chamber where Kain was transported in time. Head down the stairs and kill the Revenants at the bottom. When you reach the gate at the end of the hall, pass through it in the Spectral Realm. At the bottom of the stairs is a Fire Demon that you need to defeat. Follow the path past the checkpoint and use the Material Realm portal. You'll have to deal with quite a few Revenants before you can proceed. Head down into the chamber and unlock the door there, killing or avoiding the large Shades that attack. Go through the next door to reach the Spirit Forge. ____________ SPIRIT FORGE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Equip the Earth Reaver and drop down into the water. Hit the rock at the bottom a couple times to open a path. On the other side, climb the wall out of the water and follow the long hallway to the end, and go through the door. After the scene, jump down and attack the tentacles to get them to release their grip. Climb the wall out of the pit and approach the two glowing altars. Use the Dark Reaver on the right one and the Light Reaver on the left one. The platform will lower, so jump down and attack the tentacles again. The altars will not remain charged forever, so try to hurry back up. To get back up, jump onto the ledge with the climbable wall on the side. You'll find an Earth icon there; use the Earth Reaver to extend a couple of platforms. They are timed, so quickly use them to jump across the gap. Then climb the wall up to the altars. Use the Water Reaver on the right one and the Fire Reaver on the right one. One more time, drop down and hit the tentacles using the Earth Reaver to get to the bottom of the water. Now you need to hurry to the top. Unequip the Earth Reaver and swim up to the platform above. Freeze the waterfall here and climb it. From there, glide across to the ledge with the Earth Reaver icon. Use the platforms that appear to get across the gap, then climb the wall. Use the Earth Reaver on the right altar and the Air Reaver on the left one (you'll have to jump across a small gap to reach it). Drop down and strike the tentacles one last time and you'll acquire the Spirit Reaver. Use the rock that rises from the floor to glide up to the waterfall. From there, climb up to the top the way you did before. Go through the door at the top and head back down the hall. Swim through the opening at the bottom of the pool and continue to the inner chamber of the citadel. When you get there, three large Shades will attack. Take this opportunity to test out the Spirit Reaver. It will kill the giant Shades in two hits! With the Spirit Reaver in hand, head outside and easily lay waste to the horde of Lighting Demons and Hylden that attack you. Head back to where Janos was. On the way, you'll encounter a lot of big Shades, as well as a couple of Fire Demons. They pose no problem to you now. When you reach the gate, pass through it in the Spectral Realm. Follow the hallway and kill the Lightning Demons that attack. When you reach the pile of rubble, climb the wall to the left of it to continue. Use the portal in the top room to return to the Material Realm. There will be a cut-scene, and then you fight a boss. BOSS: UNSPOKEN There's that awesome music again. This boss can be tough, but he's not hard if you know what to do. The boss will shield himself with his wings if you attack him. He has three main attacks. One, he starts glowing with green energy, then releases waves of energy through the whole room. This attack is pretty much unavoidable, but it's not very damaging. Two, he glows green briefly and then swoops down after you. Three, he glows blue and shoots out a tornado at you. These two attacks are easy to avoid as long as you have your weapon put away. Furthermore, the boss is vulnerable after these two attacks. So here's the strategy: press L1 if necessary to put your weapon away, then run/glide around the room to avoid his attacks. If he does the swooping attack or the tornado attack, glide out of the way to dodge it, then give him a couple of combos until he recovers. Then put away your sword with L1 and repeat the process. Once his health gets low, he may create a couple of Revenants, which you can easily kill and devour their souls. Otherwise, use the same strategy throughout the battle. After the battle is a couple of cut-scenes, then you'll return to Avernus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - AVERNUS CATACOMBS {KL14} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll be attacked by four Lightning Demons, which you will find are not nearly as easy without the Spirit Reaver. Dodge their projectiles and combo them whenever you see an opening. Focus on one at a time if you can, but that may be difficult because they can teleport. After some of the Lightning Demons are dead, a Fire Demon will appear. If you run low on health, there are basins of blood in the corners of the room. When the Demons are dead, enter the portal that appears to get back to Avernus. Climb the wall on the right side of the pit to the top. Enter the room where Raziel met Mortanius to find Kain's last Health Talisman (HTK12). Then follow the walkway around to the right and go through the door to the catacombs. In the first large room, a Lightning Demon will attack. Kill it, then take the Arcane Tome to the left of the room (ATK9). Continue on to the left. In the second large room, you'll have to fight three Lightning Demons (the third one appears after the first one is killed). Continue to the end of the catacombs and use the portal to return to the cathedral. Kill the enemies that greet you (or try to avoid them if you want), then use the bat icon to travel back to the Vampire Citadel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAIN - THE VAMPIRE CITADEL (PART 3) {KL15} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the scene, take the last TK Rune near your starting position (TKK8). Your destination is the Spirit Forge. Head down the stairs and Mist through the gate, and continue to the inner chamber. Kill the Shades there, then go through the door. Drop into the pit and climb out on the other side. Follow the hallway to the door at the end, picking up the last Arcane Tome on the way (ATK10). Go through the door and watch the cut-scene that follows, then it's time to fight the final boss. FINAL BOSS The eye is your target, the only thing that you can damage. However, it is very well-guarded. In order to destroy the barrier around the eye, you need to destroy the tentacle. The tentacle has two attacks - it will either raise up and attack you like a whip (keep moving in one direction, away from the tentacle to avoid this), or it will move horizontally along the ground (simply jump over it a few times to avoid this). When the tentacle comes to rest, slash it. This will lower the barrier around the eye. Quickly run forward to the eye, jump straight up, and give it an aerial combo (Square-Square-Square); you should be able to get two combos in. When the eye glows orange, back off, because it will start shooting projectiles. To avoid these, either constantly jump around and hope they miss; or better, hold L1 to draw your sword, then keep moving in one direction and use Mist form to dodge them at the last second. Repeat this process several times. After the first time, you will need to destroy the tentacle twice in order for the shield to lower each time. Also, as the boss's health gets lower, it will have two tentacles and shoot projectiles more quickly. At this point, I actually think it's easier to dodge the tentacles; just make sure you slash the one at rest. When its health gets really low, it will grow three tentacles at a time and sometimes shoot projectiles as it attacks with its tentacles. Just keep moving and slash the tentacle at rest, then combo the eye. You may die once or twice on this boss, but just practice dodging the tentacles and projectiles and you'll do fine. After the boss is defeated, watch the final cut-scene of the game. You can also save your game to unlock the bonus materials, accessible from the main menu. =============================================================================== TALISMAN, RUNE, AND TOME LOCATIONS {TL5} =============================================================================== Here are the locations of all the collectible items in the game. If you can't figure out exactly where one of them is, refer to the walkthrough for some context. If you're looking for a specific Health Talisman, TK Rune, or Arcane Tome in the walkthrough, here's how to find it - I've listed a code and a number for each one within the walkthrough in this format: (XXY#). ---- KAIN ---- ________________ HEALTH TALISMANS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The Sarafan Stronghold 1.
