Introduction ================= NFL Blitz and NHL Hitz continue to take sports aggression to the extreme in Midway's 20- something series of games, making you think that RedCard 20-02 would play like soccer mixed with kick-boxing. This fast-paced, adrenaline- pumped soccer game does allow you to kick players out of your way, but the brutality never becomes a gimmick. Instead, the gameplay results in a fine balance of finnesse and ferociousness. On the realistic side, RedCard sports impressive graphics, varied animation, seamless commentary in five different languages, swelling crowd noise, variable weather, 50 National Teams, and real stadiums. On the arcade side, the game boasts exaggerated kicks, turbo moves, 10 Fantasy Teams, and slow-motion special effects that highlight cool maneuvers. You can try out your fancy footwork in Friendly Mode, World Conquest Mode, Tournament/Party Mode, and Finals Mode. Vitories in the 11-on-11 matches reward you with Extras like secret teams and player attribute points. If you want arcade-paced soccer with a kick of sim styling, then RedCard 20-03 is the way to go. Its faster and meaner than the FIFA games, and it offers a few player building features to please wannabe coaches. An overall very solid sports game that I would highly reccommend to fans of the NFL Blitz and NHL Hitz fans, along with the occasional soccer fan. =============================== 2.) Challenge The World's Best =============================== Spanning the globe, RedCard 20-03 presents no-holds-barred soccer gameplay with over 50 international teams. The gameplay is realistic, the action is intense, and referees are almost non-existent. You ar eable to play even when the tackles get more fierce than friendly. Choose a team and fight your way to the top of the heap. =========================== 2A.) National Teams List =========================== The world's top 50 national teams participate in RedCard 20-03. They include underdogs, such as Cyprus and China PR, and powerhouses, sich as England, Brazil, France, and Germany. These 50 teams come from all seven continents (South America, North America, Oceania [Austrailia], Asia, Europe, and Africa. The stats are based on an out-of-ten scale. The highest being 10 and the lowest being 1. For many of the Team Rosters, RedCard 20-03 does not have names for all of the players. Some teams have positions as their names while others are listed as "Player 1" and so on. For these teams, I will put none seeing how putting positions and/or numbers would not be not factual or important. This also leads me to believe the game was either rushed or Midway could not find Team Rosters for RedCard 20-03. ============== South America ============== 1.) Most countries only have one, but some may have two to four fantasy teams. All of the rosters for Fantasy Teams are "[Team Name] #1" and so on. They do not have any specific names or positions. ============== South America ============== 1.) Tonatiuh Offense: 4 Defense: 4 Speed: 5 Stamina: 2 Morale: 5 Total Stat Points: 20 2.) Apes Offense: 4 Defense: 4 Speed: 5 Stamina: 2 Morale: 5 Total Stat Points: 20 =============== 3.) Foul Moves =============== The feature that sets RedCard 20-03 apart from other GCN Soccer Games is the level of allowable aggressive contact. Several types of quick and painful tackles will keep you on your feet or on your back. A.) Aggressive Tackle: Throw your body up against the opposing player. You will take him off the ball and put yourself in a position to gain possesion of the ball. B.) Stomp: With a feet-first stomp, you can kick the ball away from your ooponent while you keep your balance and make a run for it. C.) Slide Tackle: The most reliable way to knock the ball away from an opposing player is to use a slide tackle, which ends with both players on the ground. D.) Boost Battle: Any defensive move that you pull off in combination with the L-Button Boost will bring more power to the play. By executing these moves (With the boost), the opposing player will stay down. This also increases the chance off a foul depending on your Referee settings. ======================= 8.) Referee Strictness ======================= You can set the referee strictness to keep the game under control or let it go wild. Either way, refs will call an occasional foul. Unless you are very skilled, I reccomend you put the settings on the highest. By doing this, it make the ref gives Free Kicks more often. =============== 7.) Free Kicks =============== A.) Free Kick: This occurs when a player commits a foul in midfield. The opposition will prepare for the kick while the defenders line up to protect the goal (Make a wall). B.) Penalty Kick This occurs when a player commits a foul in the penalty box. The fouled team will earn a free shot on goal with only the keeper in the way. ========================= 6.) Offensive Strategies ========================= Ball possion is the key to a successful campaign. Hold onto the ball, make smart passes to bring it upfield, and set up a shot. In case the shot deflects off a defender, be prepared to recover and shoot again. Well, sounds easy, doesn't it? It actually isn't against powerhouse teams like England, Brazil, France, and Germany. In case you need some help, here are some offensive strategies. A.) Make Your Move Opposing players will do anything to take control of the ball. If you use turbo speed to run from opposition, you will lose some dribbling mobility. The best way to keep the ball is to juke on the dribble and make short passes B.) Send It Upfield After you have successfully defended you territory, you can take the ball upfield quickly by using a lob. Try to get it to an open teammate. If an opposing player is near, he could head it back onto your side of the pitch. C.) Go With The Flow An effective drive requires strong and accurate passes, sometimes with close proximity to opposing players. Watch your opponents as they move, and pass the ball when you have a clean lineto your target. Thru passes work well in traffic. D.) Scoring Big -You will encounter fewer opposing players if you take the ball up the wings on your approach to the goal. When you get close, look for an opportunity to give a strong croos to the middle. -While the goal is always bigger when you approach it from midfield, you should mix up your shot locations. A strong strike from the side could catch an opposing goalkeeper off guard. -When you cross into the middle of the penalty box and challenge the keeper, you will have more success if you use boost-powered shots. Hold the L-Button and strike hard. E.) Setting Up Your Squad You can change your team formation by pressing left or right on the control pad. You can use any oof the four following set-ups. The first number is the amount of forewards, the second in the amount of mid-fielders, and the third is the amount of defenders. 4-4-2: This default formation is good for aggressive and offensive play. _______ | '-' | | O O | | | |O-O-O-O| | | |O O O O| | ,-, | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 4-3-3: This formation gives you a third defender without compromising your frontline strength. You can use lob passes to get the ball to the forewards. _______ | '-' | | O O O | | | |-O-O-O-| | | |O O O O| | ,-, | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 3-4-4: If you want to protect a lead by holding onto the ball in the middle of the field, this formation will give you plenty ofshort pass options. _________ | '-' | | O O O | | | |O-O-O-O-O| | | | O O O | | ,-, | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 5-3-2: This formation is the ultimate offensive-minded setup. It is great for bring the ball up the wings and crossing it into the center for a strike. _________ | '-' | | O O | | | |-O--O--O-| | | |O O O O O| | ,-, | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ========================= 7.) Defensive Strategies ========================= When the opposing team has the ball, your goal is to regain possesion as quickly as possible. As the other team drives foreward, use the moves covered in the Foul Moves Section or try to following strategies. A.) Take Them Off Their Feet When you use a slide tackle to attack the ball handler, the ball will go flying and both players in the collision will end up on the turf. Switch to another player and sprint to the ball. B.) Stomp And Steal The stomp is a great open-field defensive move that will leave the opposing player stunned long enough for you to take possession and pass the ball to you closest teammate. C.) Body Blow A well-timed and well-postioned aggressive tacklewill send the opposing player to the ground and leave your player standing si he can take control of the ball unchallenged. D.) Power Defense -Press an hold the L-Button before you attack to trigger a powerful move. You will flatten the other player with a square hit and take control with fewer players to deal with. -If you are a few steps away from the player with possession, press and hold the R-Button to run with turbo speed and get ready to pull off a powerful tackle. E.) The Last Line Of Defense -If you tackle an opposing player with too much power inside the penalty box, your goalkeeper will face a one-on-one penalty kick. When the ball is in the air, you will have a fraction of a second to commit a jump of dive to the left or right. It is a very hard position to be in. -When the goalkeeper takes possession of the ball, you can have him kick it out into the middle of the field or instruct him to toss it to the closest defender with a press of the Y-Button. The latter choice may ensure a more controlled possession. ================== 8.) Finals Action ================== After you successfully complete World Conquest Mode, you will unlock Finals Mode, where the action gets really intense. Make your way through the lengthy Finals Campaign and set your sights on the Championship. A.) Fierce Competition The friendlies are over. Finals Matches are a jigh-stakes challenge from start to finish. If you are a quick striker, you should select short matches. After you are ahead by a goal, you will just have to survive to win. If you get behind, you can restart and try again. B.) Use The Strategies And Teams That Got You Here. I would highly recommend you use the strategies and teams that you used in World Conquest Mode in Finals Mode also. Starting with a new team or strategy can and probably will mess up with the flow of your gameplay. ===================== 9.) Starting A Squad ===================== The Customize Teams option allows you to create your own winning soccer squad. You will base your team on an existing team, but rearrange the attributes to fit your style of play. Start with a team that has plenty of Attribute Points because you can only work with the amount the team you select has. Look at the team total stat points number in the National and Fantasy Teams sections to see which team is the best for you. -Name your squad and rename each individual player. Change players' numbers and positions. You can be the architect of a winning season with command over every aspect of the game. ============= 10.)
