You will not find a walkthrough here, or a list of cheats, or special things you can unlock, it is purely for details about your mech, and how to control and pilot it better. If you have a flying trick/maneuver you'd like to contribute e mail me at ringthief@comcast.net and it will appear in a later version, giving you full credit for the tip. Also e-mail me to correct information here if I've made any mistakes. Thanks for reading. And thanks for supporting the game by buying it. With a little luck maybe a sequel. v1.1 Changes -Added Gamecube Buttons -Added Hunter/Kevin Whitman to Credits -Added broodwars to Credits -Fixed Missile Damage -Formatting Oh yeah, and give me credit for the info in this faq if you use parts of it, and if you wanna use the whole thing feel free, just don't alter it please. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 2 - Button terminology -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- I will not refer to specific buttons so that this manual works for all platforms. For example, instead of saying to hit "X" (Playstation 2) or hit "A" (X Box), I will say to hit "Boost". _______________________________________________________________________ | XBox | Gamecube | Playstation 2 | Universal Name | |----------------|----------------|----------------|--------------------| | Right Analog, | | R1/L1, | | | White Button | B, C-Stick | Right Analog | "Target" | | | | | | | L/R Trigger | L and R | R2 or L2 | "Strafe" | | | | | | | Y | Z | Triangle | "Special Action" | | | | | | | X | Y | Square | "Primary Weapon" | | | | | | | B | X | Circle | "Secondary Weapon" | | | | | | | A | A | X | "Boost" | | | | | | | Left Analog | Left Analog | Left Analog | "Stick" | | | | | | | Left on D-Pad | Left on D-Pad | Left on D-Pad | "Battloid" | | | | | | | Right on D-Pad | Right on D-Pad | Right on D-Pad | "Fighter" | | | | | | | Up on D-pad | Up on D-pad | Up on D-pad | "Guardian" | | | | | | | Down on D-Pad | Down on D-Pad | Down on D-Pad | "Hover" | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 3 - What the instructions don't tell you -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- ---------------------------------- | A - Reconfigure to Guardian Mode | ---------------------------------- By pressing Hover instead of Guardian to reconfigure you go to guardian with NO THROTTLE. this is great as the coasting throttle usually just messes you up if you don't want it or need it at the time. This is shown in-game if you go to "Options > Controller Diagram" but it is never mentioned in the instruction manual or in training (as there is no training mission for reconfiguring your Veritech). ------------------------------- | B - Armored Veritech Jettison | ------------------------------- By pressing any of the transformation buttons and then quickly hitting the Special Action button, you can jettison you armor off. --------------------------------- | C - Female Power Armor Controls | --------------------------------- Shown in section 5 in full detail, but basically the Special Action button switches between primary and secondary guns to be equipped on your Primary Weapon, your Secondary Weapon is missiles, and you have only 2 modes to "transform" to, a walking mode and a flight mode. -------------------------------- | D - Pressure Sensitive Buttons | -------------------------------- So far I only have found 1 action that is pressure sensitive, using Boost straight up to gain altitude in Battloid mode. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 4 - Maneuvers -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- ----------- | A - Yo-Yo | ----------- Climb in guardian while launching missiles, reconfigure to Battloid mode and shoot with your primary gun while falling back to earth (go to secondary to shoot down missiles). Then when you hit the ground reconfigure to Guardian Mode again and repeat. This up-and-down action dodges a great deal of enemy fire while you unload on them. ---------------- | B - Quick Turn | ---------------- When in Fighter Mode and flying right at a locked on enemy, who is also flying right at you, you'll notice that when you pass each other you won't be able to hit him for a while as you make the lazy arc to turn and follow him. Instead, just as you pass him change to Battloid mode (Boost to keep yourself in the air) and keep firing at him. This turns faster, plus you can hit him before you even finish the turn thanks to Battloid Mode's great auto-aiming. This reduces the time that your not dumping fire on him, and when you finish the quick turn you can change back to Fighter Mode and continue the chase. -------------- | C - Flanking | -------------- While in Battloid Mode, use Boost and Strafe together a lot in close quarters with your enemy. This is good for dodging enemy fire. If you get in very close strafe in one direction while rotating and firing to do circles around your enemies. Good Flanking skills makes all the difference in how much damage you take in very close quarters. Also be aware and move to counter if your enemies try to flank you. Usually only Power Armor (male of female) will do this, but obviously human opponents in Vs mode will too. ---------------- | D - Peek-a-boo | ---------------- This is a basic skill everyone should have a grasp on of using cover effectively. In Battloid or Guardian Mode, strafe out from behind concealment, fire on your enemy, and then strafe back behind cover before their return fire can hit you. Also you can do this vertically by boosting up in Battloid mode or pulling back on the stick to pop up and fire, then stop boosting or push forward to drop. Try not to develop a rhythm to this or your opponent can use Patterning on you to time his shots to reach you just as you come out. ---------------- | E - Smart Bomb | ---------------- When locked onto an enemy but you are behind cover, like in Peek-a-boo above, you can turn yourself 90 degrees from the direction of your enemy. Then in Guardian Mode you can shoot your missiles at him and they will travel around the corner. You are attacking him from 100% concealment! If your missiles are hitting the wall try moving back a little bit from your cover, or turning at different angles. ------------------------ | F - Knifes Edge Flight | ------------------------ Not useful very often but in Fighter Mode you can fly on your side by banking. Sometimes this is the only way to avoid obstacles you would otherwise collide with. ---------------- | G - Patterning | ---------------- This isn't a move so much as it is a tactic or mindset used by snipers in SWAT or the military. It is watching your opponent and analyzing his patterns to make your shot connect. One example of this is an opponent using Peek-a-boo and coming out every 5 seconds or so. You can launch your missiles AHEAD OF TIME, timed precisely to already be there when he pops out the next time. Or if a enemy is patrolling an area by pacing and turning you can time your shot to hit as he turns, so his lateral movement does not cause you to lead or miss. ---------- | H - Loop | ---------- In Fighter Mode you can loop by Boosting and pulling back on the stick. Good for when you have an enemy on your tail, or you have just made an attack pass and want to turn around for another pass. --------------- | I - Half Loop | --------------- Same as Loop but stop when you are halfway done, inverted, and your craft will right itself. Good for when you have an enemy on your tail, or you have just made an attack pass and want to turn around for another pass. ------------- | J - Split-S | ------------- In Fighter Mode, hold both Strafe buttons and pull back on the stick. This will invert you and perform an inverted Half Loop. Good for when you have an enemy on your tail, or you have just made an attack pass and want to turn around for another pass. ------------- | K - Leading | ------------- This is firing ahead of a far off moving target, so that by the time your fire reaches that spot THEN your enemy will be in it. Otherwise his movement dodges your fire. Auto targeting does this for you in Battloid or Guardian Mode, but I find it's more effective to still turn your craft and face where it's shooting no matter HOW good you think auto-aim is. You have to do this manually in Fighter Mode but a indicator will appear showing how far to lead. In sniper mode you have to do this manually with no help. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 5 - Detail of all controls -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- --------------- | A - All Modes | --------------- (Target) Using the Target stick you can point at an enemy to lock on to it, or you can tap the buttons to scroll through possible enemy targets till you find one you like. When you are locked on to an enemy an icon for them will appear in the upper left part of your screen to show you what enemy it is, and will also display their remaining health. Useful to tell if you have the right target, and if you are in fact even damaging it. Sadly, the 2 Target buttons do not reverse the order that you are scrolling through your enemies, but using left or right on the target analog will go in either order. (Battloid) Unless you are already in Battloid Mode, this will reconfigure your Veritech to Battloid Mode. (Fighter) Unless you are already in Fighter Mode, this will reconfigure your Veritech to Fighter Mode (Disabled in a Armored Veritech until the armor is destroyed). (Guardian) Unless you are already in Guardian Mode, this Reconfigures your Veritech to Guardian Mode at full throttle. If you are in Guardian Mode already this just increases the throttle (Disabled in a Armored Veritech until the armor is destroyed). Regardless of throttle setting Boost functions normally. (Hover) Unless you are already in Guardian Mode, this Reconfigures your Veritech to Guardian Mode at no throttle, just hovering. If you are in Guardian Mode already this just decreases the throttle (Disabled in a Armored Veritech until the armor is destroyed). Regardless of throttle setting Boost functions normally. ------------------ | B - Fighter Mode | ------------------ (Strafe) Strafing banks your Fighter making it turn sharper. Doing this while Boosting executes a barrel roll which turns even sharper and "avoids enemy fire" (Special) At the cost of one missile volley, this drops a decoy that enemy missiles will follow. I find it is best to time it by dropping it near the last second when they are about to hit you. Drop it to early and you wont be near enough to it to fool missiles or it will have quit functioning by the time they get to you. (Primary Weapon) Your gun pod. In this mode it is locked under your Veritech and so you must aim manually by moving your whole mech to move your crosshairs. A indicator will show you where to aim to lead a moving target. (Secondary Weapon) Your Heavy Missiles. Longer range but less maneuverable. (Boost) Gives you a boost of forward speed. Also causes strafe to roll your plane instead of bank. (Stick) Standard flight controls. Pull back to climb, push forward to dive. left and right to turn. Up and down can be reversed in the games Options if you are not proficient with flight controls. -------------- | C - Guardian | -------------- (Strafe) Moves you to the left or right. Boost in this mode still moves you forward and not in a strafe direction. (Special) Picks up Items or drops them. Not really useful in combat but only for missions. (Primary Weapon) Your gun pod. In this mode it has auto aiming toward whatever you are locked on to. In my experience the auto aiming is not as good as the Battloids. (Secondary Weapon) Your light missiles. They are short range but highly maneuverable. (Boost) A burst of speed. (Stick) Back to climb and forward to dive like standard flight controls(reversible in the options). Left and right to rotate. (Guardian) When your already in guardian this functions as throttle up for your coasting speed (much slower than boost). Many times you will find the coasting just annoying and will want to not use any throttle. (Hover) When your already in Guardian this functions as throttle down. ------------------- | D - Battloid Mode | ------------------- (Strafe) Like Guardian mode, this moves you directly left and right. In Battloid however using boost while strafing boosts you in the direction your strafing, not forward. (Special) Toggles sniper mode on or off. In sniper mode use the strafe buttons to zoom in and out, either weapon button to fire, and you can hold the button down to charge a shot for more damage. While charging, watch your gun overheat meter to see how charged you are as a deeper shade of green climbs. (Primary Weapon) Your gun pod. In this mode your auto-aiming is EXCELLENT to whatever you are locked on to, you can really see the whole upper body turn to aim. (Secondary Weapon) Also your gun pod, but the secondary weapon makes you fire instead at incoming missiles. auto aiming for this is great also. (Boost) A burst of speed in any direction. This included while strafing and straight up by keeping the stick in neutral position. You can only boost in one direction at a time so if you want to climb AND boost forward you have to alternate between one Boost + Forward on the stick, and Boost + Neutral on the stick. Also Boosting straight up for altitude is pressure sensitive. (Stick) Forward or backwards on the stick makes you run in those directions, left or right rotates you. ------------------------------- | E - Female Power Armor Ground | ------------------------------- (Strafe) This moves you directly left and right. Using boost while strafing boosts you in the direction your strafing, not forward. (Special) Toggles between the default High Speed, Triple Barreled Pulse Lasers (built into the forearms) and the Dual Auto Cannons (mounted on the chest) as your Primary Weapon. (Primary Weapon) Has 2 modes depending on use of the Special Action Button to toggle. 1 - High Speed, Triple Barreled Pulse Lasers Mounted on the forearms, these will target incoming enemy missiles and overheat very quickly. 2 - Dual Auto Cannons (Secondary Weapon) Your Heavy Missiles. Longer range but less maneuverable. (Stick) Forward or backwards on the stick mask you run in those directions, left or right rotates you. ------------------------------- | F - Female Power Armor Flight | ------------------------------- (Strafe) Moves you directly right or left. Boost does not boost you in the strafe direction. (Boost) A burst of speed (Stick) Back to climb and forward to dive like standard flight controls(reversible in the options). Left and right to rotate. ------------------------------------- | G - Armored Veritech (Ground Level) | ------------------------------------- (Strafe) This moves you directly left and right. Using boost while strafing boosts you in the direction your strafing, not forward. Also pressing a transformation button and then quickly pressing Special Action you can jettison your armor. (Primary Weapon) Your gun pod. In this mode your auto-aiming is EXCELLENT to whatever you are locked on to, you can really see the whole upper body turn to aim. (Secondary Weapon) Your light missiles. (Stick) Forward or backwards on the stick mask you run in those directions, left or right rotates you. ------------------------------------ | H - Armored Veritech (Space Level) | ------------------------------------ (Strafe) This moves you directly left and right. Using boost while strafing boosts you in the direction your strafing, not forward. (Special) Toggles sniper mode on or off. In sniper mode use the strafe buttons to zoom in and out, either weapon button to fire, and you can hold the button down to charge a shot for more damage. You can only boost in one direction at a time so if you want to climb AND boost forward you have to alternate between one Boost + Forward on the stick, and Boost + Neutral on the stick. Also Boosting straight up for altitude is pressure sensitive. (Stick) OK this is strange. While boosting, you stick operates like you are controlling a Battloid. Forward and backward move you forward and backward, left and right rotate you. While NOT Boosting however, you operate like a Guardian. Pulling back makes you climb, and pushing forward makes you dive. Left and right still rotate. -------------------- | I - Super Veritech | -------------------- All Functions are the same for "Super" as they are in a Regular Veritech, just with different levels of performance and more missile volleys. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 6 - Detail of all mecha statistics -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- ---------------- | A - Mecha Info | ---------------- Below are very detailed statistics on all the mecha in this game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mecha | Armor** | Speed | Agility | Missiles | Targeting -----------|---------|---------|----------|-----------------------|------------ VF-1D | 70 | 40 | 50 | 4/6 | 3 VF-1A | 60 | 50 | 60 | 6/6 | 4 VF-1J | 50 | 50 | 70 | 8/6 | 4 VF-1S | 40 | 60 | 80 | 8/6 | 5 YF-1R | 30 | 70 | 90 | 8/6 | 5 F.P.A. | 50 | 100 | 90 | 4/16 | 4 Armored VT*| +40 | -10 | -30 | 14/8 | -1 Super VT*| +20 | +30 | -10 | +8/6 | -0 -----------|---------|---------|----------|-----------------------|------------ | | | | volleys/Ms.per volley | # lock-ons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * = Note that above numbers with a "+" or "-" modify another number, while numbers without a "+" of "-" are unchanging.
