XAM stands for "eXchange, Access, Messaging." To open it and access its many functions, press the X Button. Phone ----- Call other Urbz to plan your social life, get some yummy take-out from Take China, or call the fire department to douse your unintentional infernos. Messages -------- Review text messages from other Urbz to stay in the loop of what's happening around the City. Your XAM stores the latest 20 messages. When it rings, push the X Button to go straight to the latest received message. Inventory --------- View the goods and gadgets your Urb has acquired and place them in your apartment or in the smaller rooms you have in each district. You can sell these items at shops when they're soooo last week. Relationships ------------- See a summary of your network friends and enemies. Positive numbers indicate good relationships and negative numbers indicate bad relations. Goals ----- This critical hub of info in the XAM shows a map of the City, your goals per districts, statistics, and what's left to unlock. Customize --------- You can change your XAM's style too. Collect different skins and ringtones. --------------- 3.3--Reputation --------------- Reputation is the key to everything - it gets you into the VIP Rooms and midnight parties, unlocks other districts and new apartments and determines your influence over other Urbz. Your reputation is based on all of your relationships, which you can see at the XAM's relationship panel. As your rep increases, you can visit more of the City on the subway. Relationships decay over time so make sure you respond to your friends when they're paging you on your XAM! Increased rep also leads to higher rankings; the highest you can reach is Superstar. As your rep increases, this is reflected in your environment, too. Not only will you be invited to exclusive parties, but you'll see your face on posters around town and other Urbz changing their attire to be more like you. You also gain rep by completing goals. When your Urb's rep increases, a reputation moment occurs highlighting anything you've just unlocked, such as another district. You also may get XAM messages from friends telling you what is now unlocked. The Goals screen in your XAM tells you what goals you still need to complete and what had already been accomplished. A list of reputation points and what they earn you is listed in The Districts & Reputation Points, Section 4.2. ------------------------------ 3.4--Overview of the Districts ------------------------------ There are nine Districts in the City, each with its own distinct style. Your first district choice aligns your Urb's personality with the locals so you can make friends quickly. Each District has a set of goals which you must complete, people with whom you must socialize in order to increase your rep, and its own VIP room. VIP rooms are guarded by bounces who will not let you in until you have a high enough rep and proper attire (which changes with each District). VIP rooms are worth the effort, though, because it is here that Darius gives you Power Social items, which can boost your relationships if used correctly. There are also several need-satisfying items in each VIP room. ------------------ 3.5--Jobs & Skills ------------------ Each district has a different job your Urb can take on. Jobs provide a change to earn Simoleons and learn social moves. Each job has three levels. To start a job, look for a floating Simoleon sign. Each job has three objectives you must complete in order to be paid (e.g., staying cheerful/awake, keeping the area clean, and producing the product). Producing the product includes tasks such as mixing drinks, posing for modeling pictures, or rolling sushi. Each is done through a mini-game where you must push certain patterns of buttons (there is a tutorial available before you start each game). Your boss will provide you with hints as to what you needs attention as you work. Once you have successfully been paid for one level, you may attempt the next level. The second level adds the objective to socialize with the customers. The third level adds in the task of keeping the janitor happy. You must switch to him and keep his motives up, while doing the other tasks you did for the previous levels as well. Each time you complete a level of a job, a new social move becomes available to you. Before you may attempt a higher level, however, you must have certain skills. The three skills that are required are "Artistic," "Mental," and "Physical." The max that you may have of each is 30 skill points. There are skill building items that you may purchase once your rep is high enough. The skill building items increase your skill to 10, but then you must purchase an upgrade item from the store, which is also unlocked by increasing your rep. Each item can be upgraded twice, and the items are used by repeatedly pressing the A Button. ---------- 3.6--Needs ---------- Urbz have basic needs that you must maintain to keep them in top form. The overall level of your Urb's needs affects their mood and everything they do. Keep their needs met and their mood will follow. Watch the need meters on the panel in the lower left of the screen. Green needs are currently satisfied while red needs attention. Flashing needs are more critical and require immediate attention or your Urb suffers the consequences. There are five needs: Bladder: If you don't find a toilet for your Urb to relive themselves, they may have an accident. An accident will lead to lower hygiene, and you'll also receive a fine from the police if you have an accident in public. Hygiene: If your Urb is a bit stinky, you should find a shower. If you're in a pinch, though, try repeatedly washing their hands in a bathroom sink or even a fire hydrant. Your hygiene decreases quickest when your Urb is using the toilet so make sure to wash your hands afterward. Hunger: To fill this need, find some grub for your Urb. Actual meals are most satisfying (from a buffet table or take-out Chinese), but a vending machine snack will also do the trick. Fun: Urbz can have fun by themselves or by joining other Urbz in an activity. Find a stereo and boogey down to get your Urb smiling again. There is always some type of fun to be had in each District, but sometimes it's only found in the VIP room. Energy: Urbz are supposed to get 8 hours of beauty sleep a night, but your Urb can be reenergized by a quick nap or a cup of espresso as well. Try taking a nap in the morning or afternoon so they can party all night-each District has a bed for your Urb's use. ------------- 3.7--Shopping ------------- There are two types of shopping available in the game: shopping to outfit your Urb's style and shopping for furnishings for improve the districts and apartments. Clothes set your style and affect how other Urbz relate to your Urb. Spend your hard-earned cash wisely to fist blend in and then eventually start driving the trends for other Urbz to follow. Each district has a speciality clothing store with unique merchandise. To locate the store, look for a yellow jacket above a building. Clothing shops offer everything you Urb needs to refine their appearance according to the district the shop is in. Your Urb can purchase shirts, pants, skirts, shorts, shoes, hats, glasses, tattoos, jewelry, piercings, and decals for certain shirts. You can also makeover your Urb's hairstyle, make-up, or facial hair. I would suggest purchasing and/or changing into clothes that reflect the District's style immediately upon entering the District, as it helps your interactions to go better with other Urbz. When you have a selection of clothes, you can change among what you own by using a wardrobe (available in the Districts or available to be purchased and placed in your apartment) or by going back to the store. Select an item you like and press the Y Button. The item appears on your Urb and you can choose to purchase it (by selecting the X Button) or cancel it (B Button) and try something else. Besides clothes, you can buy furniture and cool objects for your apartment or to furnish the smaller rooms you have in each district. In fact, you can customize each district by placing items almost anywhere. From showers and toilets to modern art and aquariums, everything helps satisfy your Urb's needs in some way. The cash register in each district sells items unique to that part of the City. Spot the registers by the yellow icon floating above them. -------------------------------- 3.8--Relationships & Socializing -------------------------------- You form a relationship with each person you meet. The average of all your relationship factors into your reputation. When you have enough rep, you can ask other Urbz to become part of your crew. Once in, you can control any Urb on your crew. Build relationships by using the right social moves on other Urbz. You can also make enemies to earn a bad rep. Each district has unique moves to unlock and use for maximum benefit (listed in the Districts section). Socializing and building relationships is made fairly simple. The game color-codes each move based on how well it will go over by the receiving Urb. If a move is likely to be well received, it will be green. If it is likely to be badly received, it will be red. If the move is just as likely to be well received as badly received, it will be yellow. These colors help you to understand the Urb's personality. For example, a mohawked Urb from Central Station will not be very likely to enjoy a Euro Kiss while an Urb from Diamond Heights isn't likely to enjoy a headbutt. :) However, just because a move worked once with an Urb does not mean it will always work. The colors change based on your relationship with the other Urb. Also, just because the move is successful does not mean it will increase your relationship with the other Urb (especially not the 'Act Mean' moves.) Moves are categorized for easier selection: Network: This group of moves includes different types of talking ------- Talk Gossip Ice Breakers: This group is handy when you have just met an Urb ------------ Joke Tickle Brag Greet: This group is used for greeting other Urbs ----- Back Slap Buzz Euro Kiss Fake Punch Game On Head Butt High Five Hug Knuckle Up Panhandle Party Shout Rap Snippy Snap Act Friendly: These moves can be used in most situations ------------ Air Guitar Artsy Dance Blow Flame Body Bonk Bust A Move Compare Phones Gamble Give Back Rub HoloXam Pub Song Skate Trick Snap Shot Spit Trick Vogue Join Crew Act Mean: These moves will help you to quickly make enemies -------- Deafen Firecracker Dance Hyper Shock Mock Paparazzi Pop Sign Language Slam Slap Tag Face Throw Signs Act Romantic: These moves can result in love between your Urb and another ------------ Bite Grab Booty Kiss Lounge Lure Smoke Trick Striptease Suck Face Tango Techno Tuck N' Hug 360 To see how your Urb stands with other Urbz, open your XAM and open the 'Relationships' panel. Depending on how your moves are received and how much time you spend with other Urbz, you can have five different types of relationships: Enemy - A negative score Neutral - A score around 0 Friend - A score above 30 Best Friend - A score above 50 In Love - A very high score, after using a romantic move Power socials also make an impact on other Urbz, some good, some bad. Power socials are most useful when your Urb has a high relationship with another Urb, is in a good mood, and is dressed to match the District. Darius gives you a Power Social item each time you make it into one of the midnight parties in the VIP rooms, and more items can be earned as your Urb progresses through each job level. Successfully using these items can dramatically improve your relationship with an Urb. Each district has a different Power Social item. Additionally, some Power Socials are necessary for defeating villains and completing secret missions. Power Socials ------------- BlastiKiss Chug A Lug Mug Party Bomb Power Chord Sk8R TriiQx Stink Bomb Strobe XAMShot ---------------- 4.0--Walkthrough ---------------- This section includes goals for each district and how to complete them as well as where to find each character, secret missions, and the best social moves to use in each District. ------------------- 4.1--The Apartments ------------------- There are three apartments available for your use. You start in a little apartment, and you can move after you unlock the newer, nicer, and larger apartments, ultimately ending up in a *very* cool place. Each apartment has the opportunity to unlock a pet, as well, after you add new items to your home. Pets increase your fun and leave you little "presents." Don't forget to pay your rent, or Harry Snivel shows up and takes some of your possessions as payment. ------------------------- 4.11--98th Ave, 3rd Floor ------------------------- You start the game here in a three room walk-up. will.i.am greets you here, introduces you to Darius, and explains about Power Socials. You receive $300 to spend, a shower, a refrigerator, and a couch. A stereo is already placed in the apartment. Goal: Add $750 worth of furniture in order to unlock a pet bulldog. This is pretty simple--just add the free items you received at the beginning of the game and purchase a few more items in a District. ---------------------- 4.12--Blankwood Towers ---------------------- In order to unlock Blankwood Towers, you must gain 80 respect points. Once you upgrade, collect all of your belongings from 98th Ave. before moving. This apartment is much larger, and it includes a wardrobe. Goal: Add $3000 worth of furniture to the apartment, which unlocks a pet cat. Once again, just buy some more stuff in a District after adding everything you moved from 98th Ave. ----------------------- 4.13--Darius' Penthouse ----------------------- The final apartment is Darius' Penthouse, which you unlock by defeating all the villains and building Darius' Secret Machine. This apartment is *much* nicer than your previous homes--it comes with a Jacuzzi and a golf machine that lets you hit balls off the roof. Once you've build Darius' Secret Machine, you also get permission to use it. In order to use it, press the A Button repeatedly. Goal: Here your goal is to add $5000 worth of furniture, and this unlocks a pet monkey. Do this by unloading the possessions you moved from Blankwood Towers, and purchase more items in a District. -------------------------------------- 4.2--The Districts & Reputation Points -------------------------------------- The Districts can be completed in any order you choose, and it depends on where you chose to start when you created your Urb. I started on Cozmo Street, so that is where this Walkthrough will begin as well. Since you may choose not to play the game in the same order as I did, I chose not to place the amount of reputation points you need beside each goal. Cheats make the game much easier, but they also remove a certain element of challenge and fun from the game. Use them if you wish, but make sure you are really ready to give up that challenge before you do. In order to use the Cheats listed below, you must first perform the "Get Shorty" cheat, then perform any other cheats you'd like to use. Search the district until you find the gnome and then choose the cheats you'd like to use in the game. (All directions are using the direction pad not the thumbpads. Also, 'L' denotes use of the Left Trigger and 'R' the Right Trigger.) I had a bunch of information written down, but I had no idea how to organize it. I followed their outlines (which are very similar), which helped me take a tremendous amount of information and put it into a logical order. -------------------- 7.0--Version History -------------------- 0.1 - 12/26/04 - Began taking notes on the game and started guide 0.5 - 01/02/05 - Reformatted guide 1.0 - 01/03/05 - Made final edits and completed guide
