The name Ding Chavez is the name of the character you play as, and no, you cannot change it in the demo, nor can you change it in the final version of the game. The little horizontal slot with the four notches represents how much health you have left. The part underneath this says the name of your gun and the caliber of bullets it is using. Under that is the part that has how many bullets you have left and how many magazines you have left (the part with the "x" and number). The bar shows how much of your percentage of bullets is left. + + + Bottom-Middle + + + This part shows how much health your teammates have left, and they're life bars are just like your's. It also says their names. You cannot change who your teammates are in the demo, but you will be able to in the final version of the game. + + + Bottom-Right Corner + + + This is your on-screen map. Here is what everyone on the map represents: The lines represent the walls and paths and stuff. The "x" represents where you are, which is always in the middle. The circle that is filled-in white shows your teammates' positions. The circle with the "x" in the middle represents an enemy. Arrows represent staircases. ----------------------------- In-Depth Look at the Controls ----------------------------- + + + A - Action; Hold the button for the orders menu + + + The action button is used to do things like secure hostages, disarm bombs, and stuff like that. The orders menu is used to make your teammates do orders like disarm bombs (none in the demo), secure hostages, open doors and either clear them or throw a type of grenade in it, hold in a certain position, and more. To make them do any of these, just point your crosshairs onto the position and hold down A. The option to make them do something will pop up. Example: If you want them to secure a hostage, point the crosshairs over the hostage, hold down A, and press Up on either the left control stick or the D-Pad. + + + B - Thermal vision + + + Thermal vision is used to see things in dark areas, and it shows different colors according to how hot something is. If you see a human, they will have yellowish-reddish-orangish colors to them and you will see their outline. Only use this in dark areas when you want to see things that are kind of far away. I suggest using night vision for close-quarters combat in the dark. + + + X - Reload; Hold the button for the weapons menu + + + If you just tap X, you will reload your gun and get another clip. You shouldn't reload every time you shoot because eventually you will have low ammo in all of your clips. In this game, you don't physically put bullets into existing clips, but you have a certain number of clips in your gear and you just exchange them between each other. It's a lot more realistic than games like Halo and stuff where there isn't a certain number of clips, but just a certain number of bullets. You have to hold X to access the weapons menu. The weapons menu is the only way to access such weapons as grenade types and the grenade launchers. You'll have to remember this button by heart when you need your weapons that you put into slots 3 and 4. + + + Y - Night vision + + + Night vision is used to see things in the dark like the thermal vision, but everything is now sort of a shade of green. It's much better in darker areas than not using it, but thermal vision lets you see farther in most instances. However, I do recommend using this because it's easier to see if an enemy is hiding behind something or something like that and where entrances to areas are and stuff like that. You'll be using this a good bit probably. + + + L - Quick weapon switch + + + This is used to switch between your primary weapon in slot 1 and your secondary in slot 2. + + + R - Fire + + + This is used to fire, or throw for grenades, your currently selected weapon. + + + Start - Pause + + + Start, like just about every other game in existence, is used to pause the game and enter a menu where you can either restart the demo (Restart), quit the demo and go to the Rainbow Six 3 demo screen (Restart Demo), go to the controls and mess with them (Controls), or quit to the main demo screen where you can select if you want to play another demo or download some of the new levels (Quit to Demo Screen). + + + Back - Map + + + Even though you already had a map you could use on-screen, if you press Back, you will get a bigger map to look at, but be cautious when you use this because it doesn't pause the game. + + + White - Zulu command + + + The Zulu commands are a command that you can have your team automatically do. An example is how you can make your Zulu command make your team re-group and stuff. To change your Zulu command, point your crosshairs on whatever you need to to make it do that command and hold down A. After that, press L. Then, you can change it. A great way to use this is at the last part of the level when you have to save the second hostage. Point your crosshairs over the door, hold down A, press R, and select open and flash. Then, your team will hold there and you can go in the other door and get set-up, and when you're ready, press the White button and they will do the command. It's a kick ass feature. + + + Black - Team hold + + + This just makes your team hold in their current position so they won't follow you. This can be helpful when you want to sneak up on a lone enemy and you don't want your team firing away and causing too much commotion. + + + Left Control Stick - Move + + + The left control stick is just used to move your character around. That's about it. + + + Click Left Control Stick - Toggle stance + + + When you click down on the left control stick, you will change stances. The stances in the game are either crouching or standing. You might want to crouch in some instances like if you want to hide behind a lot of crates or something like that. + + + Left on the D-Pad - Peek left + + + When you press left on the D-Pad, you'll just lean over. This is helpful when you are by a wall and don't know what's around the next corner or if you are hiding behind something and are trying to shoot enemies without them hitting you much. + + + Right on the D-Pad - Peek right + + + When you press right on the D-Pad, you'll just lean over. This is helpful when you are by a wall and don't know what's around the next corner or if you are hiding behind something and are trying to shoot enemies without them hitting you much. + + + Up on the D-Pad - Open doors + + + When you need to open a door, you just have to press up on the D-Pad. The amount of time you hold it depends on how much you will open it. For example, if you just tap up, it will barely open. This can be helpful when you're peeking around in a room to make sure there are no enemies in there or something. + + + Down on the D-Pad - Close doors + + + When you need to close a door, you can either press down on the D-Pad to do it or tell your team to if you're lazy. The longer you press down on the D-Pad, the more you'll shut the door. So if you enter a room with lots of enemies, you might want to close it a little and then open it up a crack so you can squeeze off a few rounds at any visible enemies while not getting shot by others. + + + Right Control Stick - Look around + + + This is pretty much used to aim, look around, turn, and stuff like that. If you've played Halo, it serves the same purpose as the right control stick in it. + + + Click Right Control Stick - Zoom in + + + This is just used to zoom-in using your weapon. You'll be using this often in most levels. ======================================================================= Tactics ======================================================================= In this section, I will list some tactics that you can use to better survive in the demo, and they will help you out not only on your first times through the demo, but also in the harder difficulties. If you have any good tactics that I can use for my FAQ and I haven't listed, e-mail them to me and I will give you credit for them. ------- Leading ------- When you are low on life (one notch of health or something), you should always make your team go in front of you everywhere and in doors before you. This will not only let your team take care of some terrorists before they can squeeze off a few rounds into you, but you will also be able to cover your team. When your teammates are low on health, but you have a good bit of health, you should always go in first. It's not a good idea to get all of your teammates killed early in the game no matter how good you are. ---------- Using Zulu ---------- The Zulu commands are very, very useful. One instance that you can use Zulu in is when you are entering either of the rooms that house a hostage since they have 2 different doors leading in them. You can change the Zulu command to Open, Frag/Flash/Breach, and Clear on Zulu, and while your guys stand at one door, you can stand at the other. After the explosive you chose goes off, you can go in there and start blasting away at the baddies. Unfortunately, this certain tactic could only be used twice in the demo, however, there are other commands you can assign to Zulu that will make the game a little less tedious when having to choose commands. ------------------ Hiding and Peeking ------------------ When you get in semi-large fire fights like the one where the enemies are after you kill the first three enemies in the very start of the demo, you can crouch behind things like those barrels on the right side of the room and peek around or stand up at different instances, squeeze off a few rounds, and then go back into hiding. It's a good tactic to use when low on life and can be used in almost all other parts of the demo. ------------------------------------------ Using the Right Firearm at the Right Times ------------------------------------------ You should never, ever use a pistol in large fire fights unless you are extremely low on ammo or are using a weapon with slow recovery like the sniper rifles. You should always try to use a weapon with a faster firing rate in large fire fights. However, when you are using a rifle that doesn't have too good of accuracy and you want to take out an enemy that is kind of far away, your best bet is to use a pistol. Most of them (with the exception of the Desert Eagle .50) have pretty good accuracy as well as firing rates. --------------------------------------- Killing Enemies That You Can't See Well --------------------------------------- When there is an enemy that is firing at either you or your teammates and you can't see them well because of your position (they might be standing/crouching behind something or perched on a balcony above you or something), your best bet is to use any type of grenade or any type of grenade in the M203 40 MM grenade launcher. For example, the lethal grenades will obviously kill them and the non-lethal ones will confuse them or distract them long enough for you to go up to them and take them out while not suffering from any hits. ----------------- See Through Doors ----------------- To see through doors, all you have to do is turn on your Thermal vision. After you do that, you can look and see if there's any enemies in the room. If so, you can align your sight with their body part that you want to shoot at, open the door, and start shooting just as you open the door. It's a great way to give you and your team an advantage over the enemies. Thanks to Rufio for this tactic. ======================================================================= Weapons Evaluations ======================================================================= This is a list of weapons in the game and their evaluations. Overall, I think the best weapons to use are the M4 assault rifle, SR-2 pistol, M203 40 MM RP grenade launcher, and the gas mask. When the game finally gets released, you can use the headset that comes with it, also. At the beginning of the demo, walk straight and go left at the opening. Continue going straight until you see some wooden planks leaning against the right side of the wall around a quarter of the way down the hallway. Right here, stand right by the planks and zoom in with the M4 or another assault rifle if you picked a different one. Anyway, zoom in and switch on your thermal vision. You'll see a figure at the end that will be outlined in a yellowish-orangish-reddish color or something. Aim pretty high and squeeze off 3 or 4 shots. This should take the guy out. If it doesn't, just keep shooting at him after he quits running around. There will be two more enemies to the right of where he was standing in a hallway, and chances are, they didn't come out yet if you downed the first guy in the first couple of shots. If they didn't, walk forward very slowly with your night vision equipped. Look around on the left side of the room for a red barrel. This will be able to explode after shooting it. Anyway, wait for the next enemies. They will probably come running out of the little hallway upon hearing you rustle through the water. When they do, shoot the barrel. This will either kill them or distract them. You should be able to easily take them out, and your teammates will help, too. After that, take a right through the hallway and then another right. In this room, there will be some barrels on the right side of the room further ahead against a wall. Upon getting close to these barrels, 3 enemies will come out of little corridors on the right. Two will be sitting behind a barricade of wooden planks and stuff, and one will be running from a corridor on the right to a hallway that has stairs on the left, which is also where another enemy is hiding. What you do is order your men to the crates while you stay a few steps away from them, but don't let them get in front of the corridor with the stairs on the left so they won't get shot. Make them stay towards the left side of the wall. Anyway, when they do, the guys will run out. Shoot the two that are further down and don't worry about the closer guy. He'll easily get taken care of by your team. After those 3 guys are dead, creep around the left hallway with the stairs and kill the guy standing there. After that, go up the stairs take a right. Now, equip your thermal vision. You'll clearly see an outline of an enemy. He's standing behind some boxes. What you do is you slowly creep toward him, and he should hear you and start leaning over the side of the crates shooting at you, and his head will probably be visible. Aim for it and shoot him in the face. If he doesn't start peaking out, just creep up on him and blast him away. After this, there will be the extension of the hallway on the right of you when you have those crates on your left when by where the guy was you just killed. There is going to be another enemy down the hallway. Try to aim for the red barrel and hit it. If done quick enough, it'll kill him in the explosion. Continue down the hallway and turn right, but don't go out in the open. Turn on the thermal vision and peek around the corner. There will be one enemy if you killed the previous guy and two if you didn't. After taking them out, turn around and head through the door. Go in the next room and take a right and then another right and go up the stairs. When you come to a door, open it up. This is where the gas masks are really going to come in handy. This part of the demo has a lot of enemies in the hallways on the second stories of the room, and they will be everywhere except for the opposite side of the room to the left. When you're ready, open the door and stand in the middle of the doorway. Look around to the left and point your crosshairs on the ground exactly by the wall on the other side of the room. Make your team go there. After they get there, stay in the doorway and look at the big hallway on the second level in front of you. Look all the way to the left of this hallway and there will be an opening. An enemy is going to run over there and from there, try to throw a fragmentation grenade at your team. Hurry and kill him before he can. After this, quickly switch to your M203 40 MM RP grenades by holding down X and selecting the M203 40 MM RP with your crosshairs. After you do, quickly turn to your right and shoot one on the right side of the hallway on the second story right above you. This will prevent another guy from throwing a grenade at your team. After that, run where your team is, but stay on the left side of the wall. Turn to the right after getting there and watch the hallway where you killed the first guy with the grenade. Two more enemies will come from that direction. After that, turn around and look up. There will be an opening where what looks like an explosion happened and part of the wall is missing. A hard-to-hit enemy is in there so shoot at the wall with an M203 40 MM RP grenade. It should hit near him and light him on fire and kill him. A little to the left of that guy should be another guy. Take him out and that should be everyone in the room. If not, kill any remaining enemies. After you kill everyone in the hallways, the two doors on the other side of the room from you will open up and 3 guys will come running out. Shoot them before they can get close to you and make sure you kill all 3. Tell your team to re-group after that. After you do, go through one of the doors and turn to the right. A remaining enemy will be in the little room in front of you so kill him. After you do, turn around and go straight and then look left for a door. Open it up and go through it and make your way up the stairs. Do a U-Turn and go straight. When coming to the entrance on the right, go on the left side entrance and not the right. Go slowly and make sure not to go in the middle of the room. Look to your left and you will see some plastic things. Behind those are either one or two enemies. Turn on your thermal vision and take them out because it's kind of hard to see them behind the plastic. After taking them out, continue straight, turn right, and then go straight. Turn left and go straight. Take another left and go down the stairs. On your right is another hallway. There will be two or three enemies in the hallway. I suggest sending your team out ahead of you and letting them try to take them out because they are kind of hard to hit and will decrease your life a good bit probably. After they are dead, go through the first door on your right. There will be an enemy in there, and right after you open the door, he should kick over a table. Hurry and kill him before he can duck behind it. After that, turn around and go out of the room and take a right. Go through the third door on your left and there will be an enemy. Shoot him. Right beside him will be another door. Tell your teammates to open and flash the room. After you do, run out of the room and back in the hallway. Stand in the hallway right in front of the fourth door on the left so you can shoot the guys in case they run out. If they do, take care of them. If not, let your team kill them. Go in the room where they were. There is going to be a hostage in there. Put your crosshairs over him and press A. This is going to make one of your team secure him. They will now stay with him for now, but they'll soon be coming back. Turn around and go out of the room. Take a left and then another left. Go through the door on your right in that hallway and down the stairs. Then go through another door on the right when you finally come to it. When you do, go forward a little, but not much. Just stand there. You will get a call from headquarters saying there are a lot of enemies advancing on your position and your teammates should come back. When they do, make them go out in the opening and hold. There is going to be a crap load of guys in this next part. Get by the wooden planks right by the opening and shoot guys when aiming in between those. After you kill five or six and no more are coming near you, you will still have people shooting at you, but you won't be able to see them. Go in the opening and go straight a little. Turn to your left and go through the door. Go up the stairs and then when you come to the next door, make your team open and clear. They will take a left and go down a little and shoot guys. What you need to do is take out the M203 40 MM RP grenade launcher and shoot rounds into the top-right part of the level on your left after you see a guy run over there. This guy is hard to kill and will help your team a lot. Continue straight, but make your guys go in front of you by continuously telling them to go to another position. This is the key to surviving this part of the level. When you come to the end, take a left and then go down the hallway after telling your team to re-group. Go through the door on your left, and down the stairwell. Open the next door and go through the double doors you hadn't been through that are in front of you. When you do, you will come to a hallway with two sets of doors. Go up to the one that is in front of you, put your crosshairs over it, and hold down A. Then press the button to change your Zulu command and make it open and flash the room. When you do, make your team stay there by the door. After that, go in the other doorway and go down the hall until you see a long, window-like opening on your right side. When you do, hit the Zulu command button and your guys should come in the room shooting. Make them go in the middle of the room and hold from up there and start shooting bad guys. On the other end of the room is a hostage so don't shoot him. After you kill everyone, make your guys secure the hostage while you cover them by watching the second level above the hostage. After they secure the hostage, mission complete. Congratulations, you have just beaten the Rainbow Six 3 demo. Now you just need to beat it on all of the other difficulties [Recruit (Easy), Veteran (Normal), and Elite (Hard)], and you'll be good-to-go when the final game is released. ======================================================================= Frequently Asked Questions ======================================================================= Q = Question A = Answer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How and where do I get the demo disc? A: Go to a local Electronics Boutique, GameStop, or Best Buy and reserve the game. When you do, they should give you a demo disc that has demos of Rainbow Six 3, Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, and Splinter Cell. It also includes downloadable levels for Ghost Recon: Island Thunder and Splinter Cell. You can also get the demo disc at the following websites: http://ubisoft.com http://ebgames.com http://gamestop.com You'll have to preorder the game on all of these as well though so don't think you'll be getting it for free. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How do I change my weapons and stuff? A: Go to Gear after choosing your difficulty and you can pick all of your weapons and stuff from there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How do I make terrorists surrender? A: It's pretty random, actually. It's happened to me twice. On the first time it happened, I had thrown a flash bang into the room with the guy that kicks over the table, and he just surrendered. The second time, I was trying to hit the guy by the big crates near the sewer system and I had shot a lot. Well, when I had my thermal vision on and saw him kneel and stuff, I just walked around and saw him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Why did a terrorist that was giving up shoot at me? A: You should always, and I mean always, secure terrorists that give up or just shoot them. They will get their gun back and shoot you if you just leave them alone. Do not underestimate them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I pick my teammates? A: Not in the demo, but in the final version, you will be able to. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Why can't I pick my teammates' gear for them? A: I'm not sure, but you should be able to in the final version although I'm not positive if you will be able to or not. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How do I change my Zulu command? A: Point your crosshairs over something like a hostage, the ground, a door, or something else; hold down A; press R; and select the command that you want; and you're done. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can you use the Xbox Live headset with the demo, and if so, what are the orders you can do? A: Yes, you can use it, and the orders are the following: 1. Hold - Team holds. 2. Cover- Team covers you. 3. Flash - Team throws a flash bomb into room. 4. Frag- Team throws a frag grenade into room. 5. Move- Team moves to where you are looking. 6. Open- Team opens door. 7. Close- Team closes door. 8. Open & Clear- Team opens and clears room. 9. Open, Flash, & Clear- Team opens door and throws a flash grenade, then clears room. 10. Open, Frag, & Clear- Team opens door and throws a frag grenade, then clears room. 11. Breach & Clear- Team opens door with explosive, then clears room. 12. Regroup- Team regroups at your position. 13. Go, go, go- Team does natural reaction, moves into covering position, opens door, etc. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Is it true that there is a special edition of the game that comes boxed in with a headset? A: Yes, there is, but the version costs $70 instead of the $50 if you get the edition with the headset. ======================================================================= Version History ======================================================================= 10-03-03: Version 1.0: I finished the walkthrough and controls. If you have AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), feel free to instant message me at LMSrebel2002. Ok, if you are going to email me, do not email attachments because I will NOT download them and I will just delete your email. I get way too many emails a day so if you are emailing me, make sure you write something like "Rainbow Six 3" or anything like that in the subject line. Also, if you are going to email something negative to me, you might as well not even email me because I will not respond to your email, which means nothing to me. PLEASE contact me if you find ANY FAQ's that seem to have ripped off my FAQ because I have found a few and believe me, I will contact the webmaster of the site. Please check the Frequently Asked Questions section of the FAQ before emailing me. I'm getting tired of answering the same questions over and over when they are answered in the FAQ. If you email me something that I have clearly answered in the FAQ, I will not respond. Sorry but I just can't answer the same questions over and over. If you want to give feedback on the FAQ and you are viewing the FAQ at GameFAQs.com, please use the Rate system instead of emailing me. Thanks for reading the FAQ. Enjoy. UPDATE: THERE WILL BE NO MORE UPDATES TO THIS GUIDE. DO NOT E-MAIL ME ANYTHING YOU WANT ADDED IN. ======================================================================= Shameless Self Promotion ======================================================================= If you want to read more of my FAQs, Reviews, or anything, I have a contributor page at GameFAQs that you can check out. Here is the URL: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/24326.html I also have a web page if you would like to view it. It has a bunch of reviews for PlayStation2 games and it has links to cool sites and a bunch of crap like that. Anyways, here is the URL for my site: http://www.freewebs.com/thaguyingta3/ Be sure to sign the Guest Book there and let me know what you thought of the FAQ. Also, if you want to give feedback to me, you can always use the rating system at GameFAQs and rate my guide with a Yes or No. I hope you enjoyed the guide. ======================================================================= Legal Information ======================================================================= No one has my permission to use my guide in any way, shape, or form without my permission.
