About so-called new technologies

I have always been interested in the question. And who declares the technology
to be old? I often read about the fact that BBS are outdated, as if there are
some new technologies. Let's discuss this question. What is considered modern
technology? What is the criterion of modernity? Is a smartphone a modern and
never existed type of device? No. Perhaps electric cars never existed? No. 
Perhaps a digital camera or digital radio connection will be new? No. 
Scripting languages, frameworks and libraries modern? No. They appeared a 
long time ago. Thus, I come to a conclusion. Progress has stoped. New brands
are not new technologies. It's just marketing. Over the past 20 years, 
nothing new has appeared, except for new words. All the so-called new 
technologies are the development of already existing developments. For me, 
there is only one criterion for modernity. Whether technology allows me to 
solve my problems or not. If I can communicate with the whole world through 
BBS and Gopher, then surely these technologies are modern. And try to prove 
otherwise.
