===================================================================== QUADRA 840AV PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ===================================================================== Apple Fax Retrieval document #258 To have this document faxed to you, dial 800/462-4396 Copyright 1993, Apple Computer, Inc. To put it simply, the Apple Macintosh Quadra 840AV computer is the most powerful, feature-rich system Apple has ever built. With an innovative architecture that delivers exciting new capabilities in telecommunications, video, and speech, the Macintosh Quadra 840AV helps you communicate more effectively than ever before. The Macintosh Quadra 840AV combines the raw horsepower of a 40-megahertz 68040 microprocessor with a 66-megahertz digital signal processor (DSP) to achieve outstanding performance. The DSP handles telecommunications, speech, and audio functions, allowing the 68040 processor to perform other tasks, thereby increasing the total system performance. The exceptional power and built-in features of the Macintosh Quadra 840AV let you take full advantage of exciting new audio-visual technologies. For example, with its built-in GeoPort telecommunications architecture, the Macintosh Quadra 840AV can be connected with telephone systems, so you can use your computer as a telephone, an answering machine, a fax machine, and an electronic mail station. Its video capabilities let you view or capture video from a VCR, laser disc, or camcorder in a window. You can also connect directly to a TV to show your presentations or to a VCR to make videotapes. Using PlainTalk speech technology from Apple, the Macintosh Quadra 840AV can respond to your voice commands. And it generates CD-quality stereo sound, so all your audio applications sound great. In short, the Macintosh Quadra 840AV can serve as your personal communications center. Whether you're in the office or on the go, you can use it to work more efficiently and effectively than ever. ===================================================================== Macintosh Quadra 840av Technical Specifications: Microprocessor -------------- > Motorola 68040, 32-bit architecture, 40 Mhz clock speed > Integrated floating-point unit > Paged Memory Management Unit (PMMU) > 8 KB Cache Digital signal processor (DSP) ------------------------------ > AT&T 3210 running at 66.67 Mhz > Used for sound, speech recognition, telecommunications, and other real-time processing tasks Memory ------ > 8 MB of RAM standard (varies depending on model ordered). > Four memory expansion slots for 60ns 72-pin SIMMs. Supported SIMM sizes are 4,8,16,and 32 MB. > Expandable to 128 MB of RAM by using 32 MB SIMMs in each of the four SIMM slots.
