March 2, 2009 Maine Town Bans Poland Springs from Extracting Municipal Water -------------------------------------------------------------- Residents of the town of Shapleigh, Maine have banned Poland Springs and other private companies from extracting and bottling water from the town’s aquifers. Poland Springs is owned by Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage company. The company currently draws water from nine sites in Maine and wanted to expand into Shapleigh. .
