October 13, 2011 Interior Dept. Formally Cites BP, Contractors for Spill -------------------------------------------------------- The U.S. Department of Interior has formally cited the oil giant BP, as well as the contractors Transocean and Halliburton, for the April 2010 explosion that caused the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history. The move marks the first time the government has moved to take action against Transocean and Halliburton for the spill. The violations could lead to millions of dollars in fines. .
