October 4, 2011 Obama: Nation Is Not Better Off Than It Was Four Years Ago ----------------------------------------------------------- In an interview with ABC News, President Obama said Monday he was, “absolutely” the underdog in next year’s presidential election due to the state of the economy. During the interview Obama was asked how he would convince Americans that they are better off than they were four years ago. President Barack Obama: "I don't think that they're better off than they were four years ago. They're not better off than they were before Lehman's collapse, before the financial crisis, before this extraordinary recession that we're going through. I think that what we've seen is that we've been able to make steady progress to stabilize the economy but the unemployment rate is still way too high." .
