December 17, 2012 U.S. Rejects New U.N. Treaty on Internet Governance ---------------------------------------------------- The United States has refused to sign onto a new United Nations treaty calling for all countries to have equal say in governance of the Internet. A U.N. conference on a new global international communications treaty ended Friday with an agreement to bring the Internet under U.N. auspices. But the United States, along with key allies including Britain and Canada, refused to join, saying U.N. jurisdiction would hand too much control to unfavorable governments. The treaty is slated to take effect in 2015. .
