Afghan Intel Chief Survives Assassination Attempt

In news from Afghanistan, the country's head of intelligence, Asadullah
Khalid, has survived an assassination attempt in the capital of Kabul.
Khalid was reportedly wounded when a suicide bomber struck a heavily
guarded compound on Thursday. His appointment as intelligence director
drew criticism earlier this year over his alleged links to the torture
of detainees.
