January 31, 2012 East Haven’s Top Cop Announces Retirement After Racial Bias Arrests ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A police chief in East Haven, Connecticut, has announced he plans to retire following the arrest last week of four officers in his department on charges of racial profiling and harassing Latinos. While Police Chief Len Gallo has not been charged in the federal investigation into civil rights violations, he was reportedly cited in the indictment as a “co-conspirator.” His resignation takes effect on Friday. A Latino group has also called upon East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. to resign after the he said last week that he would eat tacos in order to ease relations between Latinos and police. .
