House Passes Farm Bill Without Food Stamps for 1st Time in 40 Years

House lawmakers have passed a version of the farm bill that expands
government subsidies to agribusiness but, for the first time in 40
years, does not include funding for the food-stamp program. Republicans
say they will seek a separate bill on food stamps, continuing a battle
between Democrats and right-wing lawmakers who are seeking deep cuts to
the program.
