Russian Opposition Leader Released from Prison After Protests

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been released from prison
pending an appeal a day after he was sentenced to five years in prison
for embezzlement. Navalny's supporters had flocked to the streets to
condemn his conviction, saying it was motivated by his criticism of
Russian President Vladimir Putin. Navalny helped launch mass protests
around Putin's re-election last year.
