July 31, 2013 U.S. to Declassify Verizon Order on Phone Records -------------------------------------------------- On the eve of today's Senate hearing on government spying, U.S. intelligence agencies said they would declassify more information about National Security Agency surveillance operations, including the order disclosed by whistleblower Edward Snowden that orders Verizon to hand over all phone records. The announcement follows polls showing increased public skepticism of government surveillance and last week's narrow House defeat of a measure to block the bulk collection of data on all phone calls placed in the United States. .
