U.S. to Appoint New Envoy for Gitmo Closure

The Obama administration is expected to announce today the appointment
of a new envoy to head the effort to close Guantánamo Bay. Clifford
Sloan, a Washington lawyer, has been tapped to head the State
Department's Office of Guantánamo Closure. The office has been idle
since January after the administration effectively abandoned the closure
effort. More than 100 Guantánamo Bay prisoners remain on a hunger
strike to protest their indefinite imprisonment.
