China Plans to Shrink Military as Naval Ships Seen off Alaska Coast

In China, President Xi Jinping has announced plans to shrink the
military by cutting 300,000 personnel. The move Thursday came amid a
massive military parade marking 70 years since the end of World War II.
The Chinese military currently has more than 2 million members.
Meanwhile, Pentagon officials say that five Chinese naval ships are
currently operating in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska. Officials
are calling it the first time the U.S. military has seen Chinese
military ships in the area.
