November 27, 2019 Chilean President Seeks to Deploy Military to Streets Amid Protests ------------------------------------------------------------------- In Chile, President Sebastián Piñera sent a bill to lawmakers that would allow military troops to be deployed to the streets of Chile amid ongoing anti-austerity demonstrations. This comes as Human Rights Watch has condemned police and military brutality against anti-government protesters. At least 26 people have died in the 40 days of protests.
