January 7, 2020 Mexico: 60,000 People Disappeared Since U.S.-Backed Drug War Began ------------------------------------------------------------------ In Mexico, authorities say more than 60,000 people have been disappeared since the beginning of the U.S.-backed drug war in 2006. Human rights activists say both cartels and Mexican security forces are responsible for the disappearances. The number of those disappeared in Mexico has now surpassed the numbers of forced disappearances countries experienced during the U.S.-backed dirty wars and dictatorships in Latin America in the 1970s and 1980s. .
