June 16, 2020 Protester Shot in Albuquerque While Toppling Racist Statue; Right-Wing Militia Members Arrested ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As antiracism and police brutality protests continue around the country, police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, have detained several members of an armed right-wing militia after a protester was shot on Monday. The protester has been hospitalized in critical condition. The shooting occurred as protesters tried to topple a statue of Juan de Oņate, a Spanish colonizer who massacred Native Americans 400 years ago. Earlier in the day, another statue of Juan de Oņate was removed in the town of Alcalde in New Mexico. .
