The former state attorney general on Monday took over for actor-turned-politician, outgoing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Brown, who held the governorship from 1975 to 1983, takes over a state facing deep financial crisis and political partisanship. California faces a $28-billion budget shortfall, the largest of all U.S. states. Brown said Californians should prepare to make hard choices. Elsewhere, the U.S. states of Wisconsin, New Mexico, New York, and Michigan have already inaugurated governors elected in November, while the U.S. capital, Washington, has welcomed a new mayor. The southern state of South Carolina is set to get a new governor this week. .
