Afghan Peace Council Member Killed in South by VOA News Officials in southern Afghanistan say an insurgent attack has killed a member of the government peace council. A Helmand province spokesman said Malim Shawali was killed Wednesday when the militants attacked Shawali's car and then opened fire. The peace council was established to find way to initiate talks with the Taliban to end the nearly 12-year-old war. The attack came a day after three British soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Helmand. There are concerns that Afghanistan could be engulfed in turmoil after the pullout of most NATO combat troops by the end of 2014. NATO and its partners are training Afghanistan's security forces, though questions remain over how well the Afghans will be able to tackle the insurgency. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/afghan-peace-council-member-killed-in -south/1652227.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/afghan-peace-council-member-killed-in-south/1652227.html
