Chad Foils Coup Attempt Security forces in Chad say they have arrested a group of people for allegedly plotting a coup in the central African country. The government says the "small group" had been conspiring for more than four months to "destabilize the institutions of the republic." In a statement issued Wednesday, a government spokesman says the army "neutralized" the suspected plotters, arresting them and handing them over to the state prosecutor. The statement did not identify the suspects but security sources say they include several civilians and soldiers, as well as opposition figure Saleh Maki. Chad has had a series of coups and rebellions including one led by the current President, Idriss Deby, who seized power in 1990. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/chad-foils-coup-attempt/1653200.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/chad-foils-coup-attempt/1653200.html
