Security Tight in Nigerian Town After Deadly Raid A town in northeastern Nigeria is under tight security after some 55 people were killed in a series of attacks by heavily armed Islamist militants. Army officials say some 200 suspected Boko Haram militants stormed the remote town of Bama Tuesday, armed with machine guns and grenades. An army spokesman says the militants raided a federal prison, killing 14 guards and setting 105 inmates free. The militants also attacked an army barracks, and burned down several government buildings, including a police station and a health center. Officials say at least two soldiers, 22 policemen and several civilians were killed in the violence, along with 10 insurgents. The governor of Borno State was due to visit Bama on Wednesday. Islamist sect Boko Haram has also been linked to violence last month in the nearby town of Baga, in which some 200 people were killed. Residents there accused soldiers of causing many of those deaths by setting fires -- an allegation the military denies. President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered an investigation into the Baga killings. Authorities blame Boko Haram for dozens of deadly bombings and shootings in northern Nigeria since the militant group first launched its uprising in 2009. The shadowy group is believed to want imposition of Islamic law across the region. Human Rights Watch says Boko Haram-related violence has killed more than 3,000 people, a toll that includes killings by security forces. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/security-tight-in-nigerian-town-after -deadly-raid/1656906.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/security-tight-in-nigerian-town-after-deadly-raid/1656906.html
