Former Egyptian President Appears in Court Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has appeared in a Cairo courtroom to once again face trial for complicity in the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011. Saturday`s proceeding is a retrial. Mubarak was given a life sentence for the charges last year, but was granted re-trial after appeals by both the prosecution and defense over procedural failings. Mubarak appeared in court Saturday in a wheelchair. He was accompanied by his two sons, who are accused separately on corruption charges. Security is heavy outside the courtroom, where the relatives of some of the victims have gathered. Mubarak`s retrial was scheduled to begin in April, but the judge at the time recused himself within minutes of the start of the proceedings. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/former-egyptian-president-appears-in- court/1659072.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/former-egyptian-president-appears-in-court/1659072.html
