                         Cyclone Hits Bangladesh, Burma

   Cyclone Mahasen began crossing Bangladesh`s low-lying coast Thursday,
   bearing down on the ports of Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar.
   Officials say tens of thousands of people have sought refuge in
   evacuation shelters. Two people have been reported killed.
   Fears of widespread damage have receded as Mahasen appears to have lost
   some of its power after languishing over the Bay of Bengal for several
   days.
   Weather officials say heavy rains and strong winds have also hit
   neighboring Burma`s northwest coast, home to thousands of displaced
   Muslim Rohingya.
   Some Rohingya have been reluctant to seek protection in shelters
   because of a distrust of security forces and local Buddhists after
   communal violence last year.
