Iran Expresses Readiness for Further Nuclear Talks by VOA News Iran's top nuclear negotiator says Tehran is ready to continue talks about its nuclear program with world powers at any time. Saeed Jalili said Thursday that a meeting with negotiators from the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany can happen either before or after Iran holds its June presidential election. He also reiterated Iran's position that it has the right to enrich uranium. The world powers, known as the P5+1, are pushing for Iran to stop some of its enrichment activity. Jalili's comments come a day after he met with European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in Istanbul to discuss the possibility of holding another round of talks. Also Wednesday, the U.N.'s top nuclear inspector, Herman Nackaerts, said separate talks with Iran ended with no agreement and no date for further negotiations. U.N. inspectors want access to Iranian nuclear facilities and documents. The International Atomic Energy Agency is concerned Iran may be building a nuclear weapon and wants to visit such places as the Parchin military site. Iran says Parchin is a standard military facility and insists its nuclear program is peaceful. The U.N. Security Council has passed multiple rounds of sanctions against Iran related to its nuclear program. The United States and other Western nations have enacted their own sanctions, including those targeting Iran's key oil exports. The U.S. Treasury Department Wednesday imposed sanctions on a trading company and an exchange house in the United Arab Emirates for dealing with a blacklisted Iranian bank. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/iran-expresses-readiness-for-further- nuclear-talks/1662076.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/iran-expresses-readiness-for-further-nuclear-talks/1662076.html
