UN Envoy Pledges to Lobby for More Aid for Darfur UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos pledged Wednesday to lobby for more funding for humanitarian operations in Darfur after visiting the largest internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in North Darfur. The camp has seen an influx of 300,000 IDPs since the start of the year, and is short of food and water. The visit by Amos comes in the 10th year of the conflict in Darfur, where some 1.4 million people have been displaced. The UN envoy's four-day visit to Sudan is due to wrap up on Thursday.
