Gunmen Kill Polio Worker in Pakistan by VOA News Officials in northwest Pakistan say gunmen have opened fire on a female polio vaccination team, killing one woman and wounding the other. The women came under attack Tuesday in Kaga Wala village. The French news agency reports the attack came on the first day of a three-day campaign meant for areas on the outskirts of Peshawar. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban has previously condemned polio campaigns as a cover for spying. Last year, World Health Organization officials suspended a polio vaccination campaign in Pakistan after a series of attacks on polio workers left at least eight people dead. Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only three counties where polio remains endemic. Elsewhere in Pakistan, officials say gunmen have shot dead a lawyer and his two children. Authorities say the attackers opened fire on high court lawyer Kosar Saqlain Tuesday in Karachi as he was taking his children to school. Lawyers boycotted proceedings of the provincial high court on Tuesday to mourn and condemn the the death of Saqlain and his children. Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/gunmen-kill-polio-worker-in-pakistan/ 1669559.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/gunmen-kill-polio-worker-in-pakistan/1669559.html
