President Obama Visits New Jersey Shore by VOA News President Barack Obama said there is still a lot of work to be done at the New Jersey shore, but much of the area is "back in business" seven months after Hurricane Sandy devastated the region. President Obama joined New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to tour some of the reopened shops, restaurants and arcades Tuesday along a "Jersey shore" boardwalk. He said that the people of New Jersey have proved they are "stronger than the storm" and ready to welcome visitors back to their popular tourist sites. '' Hurricane Sandy left at least 125 people dead and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses in the country's northeast.
