US Drone Strike Kills at least Six in Pakistan Officials in northwest Pakistan say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least six people including a top commander of the Pakistani Taliban. Security officials say the unmanned aircraft launched two missiles Wednesday into a house in Chashma village, near Miranshah, the main town of the lawless North Waziristan district. The area along the Afghan border is a stronghold of Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants. A statement issued by Pakistan`s foreign ministry expressed serious concerns over today`s strike saying such strikes are counter-productive, kill innocent civilians and violate national sovereignty. The drone strike was the the first such attack since Pakistan`s May 11th general election, in which the use of the unmanned aircraft was a major issue. Incoming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called the drone strikes a "challenge" to his country`s sovereignty. U.S. President Barack Obama recently indicated he is scaling back the drone strike program. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/us-drone-strike-kills-at-least-six-in -pakistan/1670389.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/us-drone-strike-kills-at-least-six-in-pakistan/1670389.html
